For the first time since they broke up, Sonny is sleeping in his own bed. Well, at least, he's lying on it, his arms around Will's bust, his head buried in his neck, inhaling his intoxicating smell, his body reverberating Will's quiet breathing. Will is fast asleep while Sonny waits for his emotions to calm down a bit. He feels blown away by his love, incapable to be poised, at the mercy of what Will is going through. It's frightening to be so dependent of someone else. Him who is so independent, that everyone find strong and confident, had his heart stolen by the most fragile and shy of all beings. His life is right once again, just because Will is in the bed with him. They've made love very softly a few hours ago and Will has thanked him. He never does and Sonny felt a lump in his throat. It's still there.
And then, it explodes. Sonny barely manages to stifle the sob. He pulls back not to wake up Will and lies on his back, his whole body quivering. He has hurt so much. He wants to be sure Will will stay forever. He would like to read in him, every second, even his anger, even when he's thinking about someone else. He wants to know. His tears are drenching the pillow under his head.
He feels a kiss on his temple, a very soft one. Then Will's arms encircle him, tightly, almost too tight. But Sonny feels better, he likes that Will is taking care of him, as it's rare, he's the toughest of the two. Will is very good at it. He whispers sweet endearing words, rubs circles in Sonny's back, until Sonny lets out a long sigh, then he asks "Lovely darling, what's going on?"
Sonny waits before answering. Is it right from him to ask Will to open up so much? Isn't it on him to just go past the fears? On the other hand, all what happened stemmed from a lack of communication. He murmurs "I love you. So much."
It's Will's turn to sigh. Then Sonny adds "You asked me once to warn you if I needed space..." Will stiffens against him so Sonny hurries his explanations away "You need me to tell you what's in my head, for me to be honest, always, is that it?" He feels Will's chin move on his shoulder "So, you need...?" "No, Will. I want to be near you, I swear. What I meant was that, it works both ways. I'm aware you have this problem of shutting down, be stuck inside, but that's the thing, I'm here. I can listen without any judgment. I'd rather hear your doubts about us than be facing a wall. When I say I love you, it doesn't mean I expect perfection from you. It means I want you happy, it makes me happy then and if you're not, for whatever reason, then at least I can help, you see?" Will is silent for a while. He lies on Sonny's side and places his head on his arm, like a cat who would rub against him. He whispers "OK, I'll try. For you." He shuffles a little then asks "Will you sleep now? Or is there something I can do to help you with that?" "What?" "A massage?" Sonny feels a great big grin appear on his lips. Will puts his hand on Sonny's face and starts strumming. Then he encases his skull and presses it. Sonny lets out a moan of contentment. "Hum, darling, if you want me to go on, try to be less vocal. I'll have trouble resisting otherwise." Sonny obeys and nod off, peacefully.
The next day is filled with smooches. When they wake up, even with morning breath, at breakfast, with the taste of coffee on the lips, next to their respective cars, a long series, as they have trouble stopping and leaving. And others by cellphones, either through texts or in conversations. Sonny is extremely efficient and spots some accounting mistakes that he puts under Chad's nose "Yeah, yeah, you're better at that stuff than I am. Go on, yell." But Sonny is too cheerful for that. The customers get impossibly big grins and plenty foam hearts on their coffees. Near the end of his shift, the door opens to Will and Sonny feels his knee get weak. He's so gorgeous.
Will doesn't leave him a second to take his apron off, he's already kissing him. Sonny looks around but the office is empty. He takes Will's hand and leads him to the personnel's bathroom. In general, Will is the most enthusiastic and adventurous but Sonny has missed him too much during the day. He kneels down and unbuttons Will's jeans. Will lets out a strangled shriek when he feels Sonny's mouth on him. They manage to be discreet and Will holds Sonny's hand, pressing harder and harder. He moans for a long time, then sags on his heels. Sonny helps him up instantly and takes him back to the office. This time, they're not alone and Chad freezes when he spots Will. They exchange uneasy looks then Chad walks to them, clumsily, and hugs Will. He turns to Sonny and says "So, you'll be the first to know, then, Abby and I are moving in together." "Great! Congrats." Chad blushes and adds "It's your fault, by the way, since you guys have found a place, she was really insistent." Sonny laughs and replies "Sorry, man. But it's worth it, believe me." Chad looks down "I know, but I wanted to wait... I left her for someone else once. I don't want to hurt her any more, and this, this is a new step, I wanted to make sure." Sonny nods. Will whispers "It's a risk you have to take. She would be even more hurt if you decided she deserves better and broke up..." He looks directly into Sonny's eyes and goes on "Don't take the decision for her, if she loves you, she loves you. As you are." Sonny takes Will's hand and squeezes softly. Then he turns to Chad "So, man, when's the wedding?" Chad grumbles, then retorts "And you?"
