He grunted when someone poked him to his side
"Tal, wake up!" someone whispered him not so quietly. He tried to shield him from the poking but it didn't stop. Finally he cracked his eye open to see Ian staring him.
"What?" he said tiredly. Ian rolled his eyes and sat back straight from his poking position.
"How come you are so tired?"
"Because I feel tired. That's why" he just answered and closed his eyes again. He would need ask notes from Ian later, but he didn't think that would be too much of a problem. So he could sleep now and be prosecuted later.
Later they were in the school's cafeteria/diner where he actually had got himself a coffee even though it didn't make that good coffee. Spencer and Connor had joined them too and now they were all staring at him.
"I heard someone came to pick you up from the yard." Spencer said nonchalantly. So he just nodded and sipped his drink. It was still a bit too hot to be drunk.
"Was it Kai?" Connor asked, frowning a bit. He nodded again.
"Is that why you are so tired? Did he take you to some lousy motel and had his way with you the whole night?" Ian asked angrily.
He gave the nosy guy a hard glare.
"You think I would go along with something like that? Besides, he is not like that, he wouldn't force me onto anything."
Ian lifted a disbelieving eyebrow
"Really now?"
he glared the guy even harder.
"Yeah. What's your problem with Kai anyway. I thought you already realized that he is a good guy."
there was a silence. Spencer ate his food and Connor looked around while the two of them glared each others.
"He just seems fishy and annoying. I really don't see what you see in him" Ian declared. he was ready to start yelling and fighting but Spencer cut in.
"Shut up both of you. Ian, Tala is right it's not really our business to decide who he can see and how often." he was already ready to gloat at Ian when Spencer looked at him and continued. "but Tala, we are just worried. That's all."
Connor smiled and added
"And curious. What did you two do yesterday"
he shrugged
"Nothing much. He has a motorcycle and he rode me around a bit. Then he brought me back here" he took another sip of his coffee. With Ian acting like that he didn't feel comfortable telling them that they had indeed stayed in a motel the whole night. But he had slept. Not much because he had woken up in the middle of the night only to see Kai tossing around in his bed. Kai had calmed down relatively quickly but he couldn't sleep well after that but kept checking on Kai. He wondered what had caused the other to sleep so restlessly.
"And that's all?" Connor asked surprised.
"We-eell" he said "we did stop for a lunch at this little coffee house outside the city."
"Why that far?" Ian was quick to ask.
"Because mommy, it's sucks to stay here where you keep staring at us like he would be a criminal." he snapped at Ian. He noticed that Spencer and Connor exchanged a look and a sigh. It annoyed him even more that Ian's behavior. Why was all his friends acting so badly? He was happy, Kai was nice and those two were acting like he was making a grave mistake. Which he wasn't.
"If the interrogation is over, I will need to go get last lectures notes from somewhere." he said and stood up.
"You can copy mine" Ian said, now sounding like the guy he used to be before Kai. He looked at Ian for a while and then smiled.
"Thanks" he sat back down and Ian pulled his notebook out for him. The atmosphere seemed much nicer now. The reason why his anger had dissipated was a line he recalled hearing from somewhere ^don't forget and loose your friends just because you have started dating someone^
it was a good thing to remember.
Later he was walking down a street after visiting grocery shop when across the street he saw something that made him stop dead in his track. Kai was there, leaning on the wall with a white tank top and baggy gray pants. But that wasn't what made him feel like the earth was ripping open and swallowing him alive. No, it was the guy that stood partially in front of Kai leaning one hand to the wall next to Kai. And they were talking and Kai didn't seem cold nor mysterious, more like just happy.
The guy leaned closer to Kai, who just smiled a little and turned his head to the side eyes downcast. The guy leaned even closer to his neck but he couldn't see if the guy was just whispering something to Kai or eating his neck. He felt a mixture of anger, pain, disbelief and a little hope that this was just another misunderstanding like the one in the bar.
Then the red eyes glanced up when the guy moved a bit, and their eyes met. He could see recognition flash over Kai's face and then the crimson orbs quickly glanced the guy on him, who was oblivious to all this and just kept going on whatever he was doing. Kai's eyes widened when they looked back at him but not in embarrassment. They were shocked and he thought he saw fear in them. He frowned back. Kai looked alarmed when he carefully lifted his hand and made a "call me" movement. He shook his head. He didn't have Kai's phone number. Kai closed his eyes for a moment. He decided to go see what was Kai really doing, facing the situation for once instead of running away. He started to cross the street and now he could clearly see that Kai was worried. His eyes darted to him and seeing his steady progress Kai moved his hand to the guy's shoulder and pushed him away a bit. The guy obeyed but apparently not happily because Kai had to wave a hand at him and smile softly. Then Kai slipped a hand into his pocket and pulled out a phone. Lifting a finger to the guy, telling him thus that it would only take a minute Kai stepped away from between the guy and the wall and brought the phone to his ear. Quickly glancing at him before turning his back in him and facing the guy again. He could now see the guy's face. Looking at Kai expectantly but not with much patience.
Then his phone ringed. He fished it out and looked the caller. Kai. What the hell? Angrily he answered
"What's the hell are you doing and what the fuck is going on?"
Kai gave a airy chuckle.
"Hello to you too. Sorry to cancel this late, but something more important came up."
"What? We don't have any plans for tonight"
"Yeah, tomorrows good for me, so can I meet you then?"
"Are you in trouble?"
"No no, any time is good for me. Except the morning."
he was already on Kai's side of the street and close to the two of them. The guy was still staring at Kai, now frowning a bit.
"Fine." he grunted to his phone. "But you better have a good explanation"
"Okay, that's good, see you then!" Kai said in happy tone, totally not like his normal voice or way of speaking. He walked past of the two and only when he was sure the guy couldn't see it did he turn to look Kai once more. Kai was just putting the phone back in his pocket and was telling something to the guy. But the red orbs momentarily met his and he saw a flash of relief there. And the hand now emerging empty from the pocket showed him for a smallest of a second a thumps up.
He looked forward and continued his way as if he hadn't just seen his...well, possible boyfriend with someone else. But what was going on? Was this his job? Was Kai some sort of slut? That was hard to believe Kai was that strong and willpowered he couldn't do something like that for his living. But had the fear he had seen been for his sake of Kai's? There were so many questions needing answers. But apparently he would get some tomorrow. Maybe. Hopefully. In the meantime he decided to think about it as little as possible, since it didn't made any sense now with what he knew. Which wasn't much at all.
With a sight he continued all the way to his home, hardly noticing how the plastic bag had been eating to his fingers.
Why was relationships always so hard to him?
and yes, the update rate correlates with the amount of reviews. positively.
