The silence grew. The two adults in the room sat across each other at Duo's dinner table. Duo sat in silence, not wanting to anger his guest anymore. The other adult sat in shock and anger at the news Duo told her. It was a long time before she broke the silence.
"And you didn't think to tell me that you have a new job? Or that you are moving because of said job?" Wilda Keys asked. Wilda Keys was one of Duo's closest friends, along with Hilde Schbeiker and Howard. They knew the role Duo played in the wars. Wilda had black hair that was as dark as the midnight sky and silver eyes that had a forever haunted look. "I came here to help one of my closest friends to find another job and get back on his feet. And what do I find?" Wilda let the question hang in the air for a moment or two before continuing, "Boxes stack on each other! Why didn't you tell me? Does Hilde or Howard know about this?" Wilda leaned back in the chair, her arms folded under her breasts as she glared at Duo.
Duo looked away, not wanting to turn to stone. Scratching his head he answered with a "no, not yet." Wilda exploded.
"Not yet?! Why the hell did you not tell us!" Wilda demanded.
Duo raised his hands. "I got hired yesterday, last night to be precise. I didn't want to wake you all up."
Wilda took a deep breath, not wanting to shout and turn this into a full-blown fight. Sometimes her anger got the better of her. "So what kind of job is this?"
"Nanny." Wilda busted out laughing; Duo felt blood running to his cheeks. "What's so funny? Don't think I'll make a good nanny?"
Wilda shook her head while waving her hands around. "It's not like that! I promise!" She wiped tears from her eyes that gathered because she was laughing too hard. "I can see you as a nanny, that's way I'm laughing." Duo sighed. "So, who are you working for? A nice, rich, hot guy I hope?"
Duo whispered, "Heero Yuy." I have never seen someone's eyes get so big before, Duo thought as Wilda's eyes widen.
"What?! Heero Yuy? As Gundam Wing pilot Heero Yuy? The one that tried to self-destruct? The Heero Yuy that save Earth? The Perfect Soldier? The-"
Duo interrupted her. "Yes, yes, yes. All of the above."
"Don't interrupt me. I hate that." In response Duo rolled his eyes.
"I know. I know."
Wilda gasped. "Wait; does he know who you are? As in your role in the wars?"
Duo thought for a minute before shaking his head, his chestnut braid flying around. "I doubt it. I was careful to hide my identity during the wars. I don't think any of them knew who I was."
Wilda looked around the apartment. It had been only a month since Duo moved into this one so there were not a lot of things that Duo had it to make this place home. Truth be told Duo only had clothes (which are now in boxes), the futon that came with the apartment and a few personal items that Hilde, Howard and Wilda gave him. Not a lot of stuff but enough that he would need help to move it all. This kid deserves a home, not just a building but a real home. I hope he finds one soon, Wilda thought. "Hey, boy what time are the movers coming?" she asked.
Duo thought for a second. "10:15 or so."
"It's 9:46 now. I can help you pack the boxes, but on one condition." Duo raised his eyebrow at this. "When you get your first paycheck you treat me to breakfast."
"Deal."
A knock on his office's door brought Heero back to the world around him. He was reading details about the mission he was going on. He had two days before he leaves; it was his job to make sure nothing could go wrong with the mission. A head with black hair and pale green eyes peaked out from the door. "Sir?" James asked to get Heero's attention.
"Yes, James?"
"Mister Winner is here and wishes to speak with you."
"Tell him I'll be there in ten minutes," he said then resumed typing. James left.
James brought the guest tea, after he told Mr. Winner of Heero's response of course. It was exactly ten minutes after when Heero showed up. He nodded in greeting to his friend, Quatre Winner, a fellow ex-pilot of a Gundam.
"Hello Heero." Quatre greeted. "It has been a while since we have talk. I don't get video calls from you; only short emails. And they don't tell me much." Heero, being his normal talkative self just grunted. "I mean it Heero. We need to stick together. We're friends after all." Quatre beamed a bright smile. "Oh, by the way, where are the children? They didn't greet me like they normally do."
"The children are most likely sulking in their rooms and planning on how to harass the new nanny."
"What do you 'the new nanny'?" Quatre questioned. "I thought Betty was working here."
"I fired her yesterday." That answer caused Quatre to sigh. He couldn't comprehend why his friend kept on firing nannies left and right. "No one had the right to disrespect my children." Sensing this was going be like a bomb exploding (he had enough of those, thank you very much) Quatre changed to a safer topic.
"What do you know about the new nanny?" he asked innocently, quite confused that someone made Heero hire her on the spot, after only one interview. Was he desperateā¦or was it something else? Out of the three Gundam pilots he knew Heero was the hardest to read. Trowa was a close second, though. Quatre wished he knew more about his fellow Gundam pilots and friends than what they were feeling and what little they told him of their past. He briefly wondered what the fifth Gundam pilot was like. Was he (or she) like Trowa and Heero, the strong silent type that only spoke when needed? Or was he/she like Wufei, strongly passionate about their ideals that almost nothing in the galaxy would make them change point of views? Or like Quatre himself, friendly and wanting to help anyone they could? He wished that the last member of the pilots would show their identity to him and the others that way they all have someone to rely on.
"It's a he." Heero answered.
"Heero, people are not 'it's. A male nanny? How rare. What's he like?"
Heero shrugged. "He is loud, talkative, has thigh-length chestnut braid, and violet eyes." He was silent for a moment then spoke again. "I can't find much on him."
Quatre's eyes widen. "What do you mean you can't find much on him? You hacked OZ's database but not find much on one man? And you hired him?"
"There'sā¦something about him, something that made hired him. Amaya loves him already." A knock sounded on the door, James's head followed it a few seconds afterwards.
"Sir, the movers and the new nanny have arrived." Heero nodded.
"Have them set up in third room to the left on the second floor. I'll be there shortly." James nodded. The door shut quietly.
Quatre stood up, wiping the invisible dust off his tan vest and slacks. He tightened his yellow tie before smiling at Heero. Not a good smile; no, it was his I-don't-care-what-you-say-I-still-doing-it smile. He was going to meet the new nanny and see if he was worthy enough to take care of the little devils, uh angels.
Author's note: Yeah, sorry it's took so long. No real good excuses. I promise to try harder to post. I forget when I'm on the site that I need to post my stories. Plus, my computer has a virus and it is being a real big, nasty jerk to me.
