Chapter 72 - The Spy
Rosa's eyes softly fluttered open, the movements of her husband next to her waking her up. Vaas was sat on the edge of the bed, rubbing his face with his hands. His back faced Rosa so she leaned over and touched him ever so softly. Vaas jumped but turned around to her and smiled.
"Good morning, princesa." he mumbled, kissing her hand.
Rosa pulled on Vaas' arm, encouraging him to lie back down next to her.
"Come back to bed, Vaasy bear." she said, with a look that Vaas couldn't say no to.
He lay back down next to her and was taken by surprise when Rosa rolled over so she was on top of him.
"This is a wake up call that I wasn't expecting, hermana." he mumbled again, a mischievous look on his face.
He ran his hands up and down her sides, making Rosa shiver but she didn't respond to his touch.
"I was thinking last night about what we can do to get rid of the locals. I think I have a plan of what to do."
Vaas' look changed as he looked at his wife in surprise. He raised an eyebrow and rested his hands on Rosa's behind.
"Do tell what this plan may be, my dear sweet wife."
Rosa rolled her eyes at his wandering hands and began to explain her plan ...
"Princesa, I think you've thought of the perfect plan. Should we ring Hoyt and let him know what we're going to do?"
"Yeah, I was thinking we could to it afterwards ..."
Rosa ran her finger down Vaas' sculpted chest, biting her lip. She leant forward to kiss Vaas deeply, earning a moan from the pirate lord.
"Best wake up call ever."
"Right dickheads, listen up!" Rosa called, taking her position on the stage.
Vaas jumped up next to her and kissed her forehead with a smile. The pirates slowly started assembly in front of the stage as the sun was rising higher in the sky, the heat making everyone sweat and thirsty.
"Beer, you two?" Raul asked, holding up two bottles in one hand.
"Thanks, Raul. You're the best." Rosa said, taking a sip of beer.
The taste wasn't the same as normal, causing her to frown but she didn't want to complain so she simply put it down on the floor next to her.
"Where's Jane?" she asked.
"I'm not sure, taking a piss I think." Raul chuckled.
"Raul Navarro, I was not taking a piss!" Jane's voice sounded from behind them.
"Your last name is Navarro?" Vaas said, sniggering.
No one had known Raul's last name since he had been on the island.
"Jane, I told you not to say it out loud; I didn't want anyone knowing! And yes Vaas, my last name is Navarro, there's nothing fucking funny about it."
Rosa punched Vaas in the arm as Jane threw her arms around Raul, pouting.
"I'm sorry. Please, forgive me."
She gave him her puppy dog eyes and he found it hard to resist her. He tipped her backwards, holding her in his arms and kissed her.
"All is forgiven." Rosa smiled.
"So, are we having this little meeting then or what?" Raul said.
"RIGHT, you fuckers! Listen up and listen up good because I am only going to explain this once, okay? As you know, the locals are planning an 'uprising' as my Father so eloquently put it. Frankly, I'm sick of all of these people coming to our island and trying to kill us. But we're not going to let that happen are we?"
"NO!" the pirates yelled, raising their guns up in the air.
"We're going to fuck them over and make sure nobody ever returns, yes?"
"YEAH!" The pirates were getting riled up, just how Rosa liked them.
"So, I have ..."
She glanced at Vaas.
"We have come up with a plan to get rid of the fuckers once and for all. We need one of you fucks to go over to where they are and ask them to allow them into their little 'group'. Really, you'll be spying on them for us. You need to convince them to attack our island and that's where we'll slaughter them. You'll be able to tell us what weapons they are going to us, what tactics they have and when the attack is coming. You'll be our eyes and ears into their 'uprising'."
"Rosa has named one of you fucks to be the one to go over as she thinks you'll be good at convincing the locals that you're one of them. Sorry, Raul, we can't afford to send you hermano. You either Jane."
The pair looked annoyed but it was understandable; they were second in command should anything ever happen to Rosa or Vaas.
"If Erskine could come over here, please." Rosa called.
The pirates parted, focusing on a dark skinned man.
"We have to talk hermano. The rest of you, get back to doing what you're supposed to and we'll keep you updated."
The pirates dispersed, chattering away about what was to happen. Vaas jumped down from the stage and helped Rosa down too. Erskine stood there by himself, straight faced and emotionless.
"You may be wondering why I suggested you, Erskine." Rosa started.
She examined the man; his skin was as dark as Dennis' and his eyes and teeth seemed to be whiter than hers or Vaas'. He wore the standard pirate uniform and stood taller than Vaas, his stature intimidating for the other pirates. He had a scar around his neck from what Rosa had assumed must have been from a murder attempt. His eyes matched his skin and his lips were thick and cracked. He looked scary but this didn't faze Rosa.
"There could be a few reasons." Erskine replied in a thick Jamaican accent.
"I've played poker with you before and you never give anything away. Your poker face is brilliant and we need someone like you to pull this off. You're a great fighter and you scare the other men too."
"How would I convince them that I left here? What would they believe?" he asked, his face still straight.
"That's easy hermano." Vaas chipped in, standing a little taller, "All you have to do is tell them that life as a pirate wasn't satisfactory enough for you. Say that we ... ostracized you."
Vaas turned to Rosa.
"Is that the right word, hermana?"
Rosa smiled and nodded. Even though Vaas spoke near fluent English, there were still some words that she had to teach him.
"Say we left you out. Make up whatever shit else that fits in with the questions that they'll definitely ask you. Tell them you're done with pirate life and want to join the 'good' guys. We'll send you over with a small radio that you can disguise under your clothing. Then you radio us with any information."
The man showed no emotion but nodded, listening intently to his instructions. Rosa ran her hand through her hair.
"What do I get for doing it?"
"Anything you want and more, hombre." Vaas replied, "You have my word."
Rosa smirked at the man as she could see that he was up for the challenge. The prospect of a pirate having everything they wanted to have from Vaas himself was something that they did not take lightly. It was a rare offer.
"We need you to convince them to attack this island. All of them. Say we're going to plan some big shit and they have to get there before we do. If they ask your motives, you say you want revenge for everyone who ever did wrong to you. Make them believe. We're going to need information on weapons, routes, attacks, defenses; everything. If one of them shits, we want to know about it. Do you think you can handle it?" Rosa questioned.
Erskine moved his head from side to side, cracking his neck. He rolled his shoulders and pounded on his chest.
"When do I go?"
Rosa and Vaas looked at each other and wickedly smiled.
"Should he have radioed us by now?" Rosa asked, biting her bottom lip worriedly.
They had sent Erskine over to the island to find the locals when it was still morning and now the sun had set, they had received no news from him.
"It's fine. He needs to convince them that he's left our side and wants to fight with them. Give him some time." Vaas said.
"Yeah Rosa, just try and relax. He'll radio when he's ready." Jane chipped in, sat on Raul's lap.
"Go and call Hoyt and let him know what is going on to take your mind off it." Vaas said, sipping his beer, "Just let him know our plan and what's happening. I'll get Jane to come and get you if Erskine radioes when you're on the phone."
Rosa sighed. There really was nothing she could do but wait.
"Alright, I'll give the big guy a call." she grumbled, getting to her feet.
She sauntered over to the communications shack, her heels kicking up dirt as she walked.
"She's just worried Vaas. It's her plan and I think she'll feel responsible if it doesn't work." Raul said, stroking Jane's leg.
"It'll work. It has to work because it's either this or they come and fuck us up our asses which means they could kill us all. It's going to work." Vaas said firmly, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I think you both need relax a little. Just give Erskine the time he needs." Jane chipped in, kissing Raul on the nose with a smile.
Rosa pressed the phone to her ear, the ringing tone being softly heard. The sound of the phone being picked up was heard but Rosa didn't hear Hoyt's hello. Instead, all she could listen to was his hacking cough.
"Hoyt, are you alright?"
"Just a minute." he coughed.
Rosa tapped her nails on the desk, the clicking sound echoing around her.
"Right, I'm here." he croaked, clearing his throat.
"I bet you haven't cut down on the cigars have you? Damn it, Hoyt, what have I told you?"
"It's a hard habit to break. I have cut down though but it's catching up with me is all." he countered, "How can I be of service anyways?"
"I know you are trying to change the subject but whatever. And I'm calling you to let you know that we've sent a guy over to the locals to act as a spy and pretend that he's on their side. He should be radioing shortly to let us know if he has convinced them to attack our side so we can dispose of them. Vaas thought I should keep you in the loop."
"I take it this wasn't Vaas' plan, my English Rose. It seems to clever for him." Hoyt chuckled.
Rosa frowned.
"Vaas is a great planner, Dad. Don't insult him." she said, annoyed, "But yes, I did plan it. I just need it to work. I don't want to have killed a decent guy for a failed plan."
"It'll work, Rosa. You need to trust yourself more. If you trust this man you have sent over then there should be no problems."
Suddenly, the door burst open. Rosa turned to see Jane stood there, a slight smile on her face.
"Erskine is radioing in! You have to come now Rosa!"
"Dad, I have to go. The guy is letting us know how it went. I'll call you when I can, okay? I love you."
"I love you too, my English Rose. Good luck."
"Right, right. Okay."
Vaas was speaking on the radio when Rosa arrived back to the group of pirates in the compound.
"Is he there?" Rosa asked.
Vaas turned around, nodded and passed the radio to her.
"Erskine, Rosa here. What's going on?"
The pirates all huddled in closer around her so they could hear what the man was about to say as he would have to be quiet.
"It worked. They're going to attack the island, two weeks exactly from today."
All of the pirates started cheering and clapping. Rosa erupted in a smile as she looked at Vaas who patted her on the back.
"You're a fucking genius, princesa." he mumbled. She held her hand in the air to silence the rowdy men.
"Anything else?"
"They believed my story. You wouldn't believe how much shit they talk about you all, especially you and Vaas." Erskine chuckled.
Rosa rolled her eyes and sighed.
"Yeah, yeah. Did you get anymore information?" she pressed.
"Nothing on tactics or anything like that. I'll radio you when I get more info. I best get back otherwise they'll start thinking that I do the world's longest shits. Erksine, out."
The blonde pirate placed the silent radio down on the crate in front of her and looked up at her men.
"We best get preparing for a fight then, boys." she grinned.
They began to cheer again; anything got them excited.
"Well done, hermana." Vaas purred, slipping his hands around her waist.
She turned to face him, before kissing him quickly.
"Thank you Vaas. I learnt from the best."
Hi guys! Hope you enjoyed this chapter! Until next time, love you all my little cherubs :)
