SO1E06- Darkness on the Edge of Town
It's been a week since we dealt with Nano. Things have been pretty quiet topside, so we we're always down in the lair. Don had made us all these cool new toys, so we were trying them out around the lair. Mikey and I got new skateboards, Leo got a scooter, Raph got rollerblades, and Don made himself a bike.
Me, Raph, and Mikey were skating in the tunnels around the lair, trying to outdo each other.
"He is the alpha dog, the thrash meister, the undisputed god of the half pipe!" Mikey said gloating. He then skate around me and flipped over top of me.
"Well, the king is about to be dethroned!" I said. I got low on my skateboard, and then jumped in the air, taking my skateboard with me and flipped backwards, over Raphael, who was behind me, and landed standing up.
"Who needs half pipe guys? We got full pipe!" Raph said. He skated up and did a loop de loop on the walls. "Woohoo! Ya!"
We skated out of the pipe and headed back to the lair. Don and Leo just came out of another pipe and started to follow us back. We rode into the lair, Don went straight for the ramp.
"Going for amplitude!" Don said. He flew into the air on his bike, and landed sideways, almost skidding into his lab table. Leo followed Don, and took the ramp to, But he actual grinned on Don's lab table.
"Going for grinditude!" Leo said. Soon we were all skating around the lair dodging each other and doing different tricks. I took a different ramp and jumped over the water which was in the middle of the lair.
"Cannon ball!" I screamed, then landed into the water. I landed into the water with a splash, but I held onto my skateboard to make sure it didn't sink. I swam back up to the top and got out, I looked and saw Master Splinter standing beside the pool, with his tea tray, and half his robe wet.
"Oops," I said turning red, "Sorry Sensi"
All he did was sigh and go sit in the living room, by the TVs. I grabbed a towel from the lab table almost running into Mikey. I was drying off when all of a sudden, all the lights went out.
"Guys?" I called out. Suddenly one of the guys ran into me, knocking me down.
"OW!-Wha!" I said, suddenly the body that knocked into me landed on me.
"Hey!" Leo's voice said. Then I felt someone else fall onto our pile, and then two more bodies hit our pile. We all groaned. I couldn't move, since I was at the bottom, with four very heavy turtles on me.
"Nice wiring job, Don!" I heard Mikey's voice say sarcastically.
"I guarantee it's not my wiring." Don shot back, "Maybe it's a blackout?"
"Maybe, now you want to get your foot off my shell?" Mikey asks.
"How about we get off the crushed girl first? So that girl can breath!" I said, as I felt the guys moving trying to get up. Suddenly a match lite the room as Master Splinter lite a candle.
"Keep that flame away from Mikey!" Leo warned, "He scarfed down a whole chili pizza for dinner!"
"Clearly there is a power failure. I suggest you investigate, and see if it can be fixed."
"We're all over it!" Mikey said, popping up his skateboard. The guys folded there things to bring, as well. I grabbed my skateboard and followed Mikey.
"And hurry up!" Master Splinter called, "I do not wish to miss my favorite program."
I laughed.
"Splinter and his programs." I mumbled to myself.
We went topside, and ran the roof tops, seeing if anything was off. But the only thing we could see was that the whole city was dark, and had no power. We stopped on top of a water tower and looked over the city.
"You know, I don't think Splinter meant we should investigate this far." Leo said.
"You can never be too thorough, specially when it comes to topside time." Raph pointed out.
"This whole side of town in dark." I said, looking at the dark city below.
"A substation must of gone out." Don said, thoughtfully.
"This isn't right." Leo said, "Shouldn't there be some emergency lights or something?"
"Ya, it's totally dark down there." Raph said.
"Which means there's only one thing for us to do!" Mikey said. Suddenly, Mikey grabbed his skateboard and road down the side of the water tower. All the other guys followed suit. I sighed. I wanted to skateboard, but something about the situation didn't seem right. I ignored the feeling though and followed the guys.
They were all skating around the front of the museum. I tossed my skateboard on the ground and skated towards them. We grinned on some rails, and jumped the stairs, but after fifteen minutes of skating around, Leo stopped.
"Guys, do you really think we should be doing this?" Leo asks. "What if someone sees us?"
"That's the beauty of it Leo! It's pitch black, no one can see us!" Raph said, indicating to the dark city.
"Get with the program, bro. It's a one in a lifetime opportunity to session some surface terrain."
Don suddenly rode over to us and skidded to a stop.
"Hey! Check this out." He said pointing behind him. I looked behind him, and scaling up the wall were those same ninjas we fought with when we first came up to the surface.
"Guys! It's those ninjas we fought with before!" I said. We ran over to some bushes to hide behind, so the ninjas wouldn't see us.
"Ya, and we nearly got waxed." Don said.
"Who's up for some pay back?" Raph says, taking out his sais and spinning them a few times. We went up the other side of the wall, using our shuko spikes. When we got to the roof, there was a glass ceiling, so we made our way over to it to look into the museum. Inside we saw the ninjas, carefully making there way to a display case with an ancient sword in it. One of the ninjas put there hand on the case, and a tiny machine makes a circle in the glass, the ninja pulled back his hand, leaving a huge hole in the case.
"You would have thought that a priceless ancient artifact would have more security." I said, sarcastically.
"I know, but we're not going to let them take it. Come on guys" Leo said, then he opened the window, with his sword, and jumped in. I took out my bow and we all followed behind him, weapons ready. We landed on the floor with a soft thud, but the ninjas did notice us yet. One of them were just about to grab the ancient sword, but I quickly drew an arrow from my quiver, and fired an arrow just to the left of the ninjas head, as a warning shot.
"The Gift shop is on the first floor boys, but they don't take kindly to shoplifters." Leo said.
"And neither do we." I said, loading my bow again. One of the ninjas drew a sword, while the ninja from before tried to grab the ancient sword again. I was going to shot another arrow, but Raph beat me to it when he threw a ninja star towards the ninjas hand.
"Now before you try to make off with the goods, you might want to consider a few things. One you're outnumbered and two, don't let the pretty faces fool ya. We're tougher than we look." Raph said. Then, suddenly tons ninjas jumped through the glass ceiling, and surrounded us.
"And three," Mikey said, as we backed away from the ninjas. "We're about to get our butts seriously hammered!"
Then a ninja charged at Leo, and then the fighting broke out. Two ninjas went after me. I swung my bow at the head of one ninja, knocking him unconscious, and then I tripped the other ninja with a sweep kick.
"Woah! Saved by the shell." I heard Leo say behind me.
"Hey check it out!" Raph said, spinning on his rollerskates. "Blades and blades!"
Raph charged towards a ninja, the ninja tried to hit him with his sword, but just at the last moment, Raph jumps over the blade. The blade hits an ancient pot and smashes it into pieces.
"You break it, you bought it." Raph says. Suddenly a ninja runs at me with a sword. I jump back just in time to miss the blade. Then I was surrounded by a whole group of ninjas. I loaded by bow with one of my smoke bomb arrows and shot it at the feet of the advancing ninjas.
"Now you see me!" I said. Then the bomb went off and everything was dark. "Now you don't!"
The ninjas around me started coughing as the smoke got into the mouth. I went around and started to pick them off one by one. As soon as the smoke cleared, the group of ninjas around me were groaning in pain on the floor. I wiped my hands together.
"That was easy." I said with a grin.
"A little help here!" I heard Leo's voice say. He was surrounded by a group of ninjas and he was barely fending them off with his swords.
"Where on it!" We all say, running to Leo's aid. I started to help Leo, fend off the ninjas. When suddenly Don, Mikey, and Raph all screamed,
"LOOK OUT!"
Don, Mikey, and Raph were riding towards us at top speed and couldn't stop. I quickly hit the deck, but that was a fatal mistake. I suddenly felt all four of the guys, fall on top of me. We all laid in a pile of limbs and arms, groaning in pain.
"Ow, I sense a teamwork training session in our future." Mikey said, trying to be funny.
"Twice. Twice in one day this has happened! This is just not a good day." I said, dragging myself out, from underneath the guys.
"Double time! They're getting away!" Leo said, pointing at the running ninjas. They ran to the ropes which helped them get in before, but one ninja ran to try to get the ancient sword. But before the ninja could try to get away we surrounded him.
"Just put the sword back sparky and we'll call it a draw." Raph said, spinning his sai. The ninja backed away from us. But suddenly when the ninja held up the sword it started to glow, blinding us with it's light. Then the ninja pointed the sword at us and some sort of energy beams came at us and knocked us off our feet. We flew and hit the wall that was behind us, causing yet another wave of pain to go through our bodies.
"Yep, definitely not my day." I said, groaning. Then the ninja with the ancient sword ran towards the hanging rope, and escaped to the roof.
"How about best two out of three?" Mikey said, rubbing his back, in pain.
"What was that sword?" Don asked, rubbing his head. Suddenly, we could hear police sirens coming closer to the museum.
"Hold that thought, we got to book." Leo said, then we quickly scaled the walls to the roof, and we headed back to the lair.
Once we got back to the lair, Splinter had managed to finally watch his soap opera.
"Master Splinter!" We all called out. Master Splinter turned off his TV, and walked over to us.
"What is it my children?" He asked with concern.
"We fought ninjas-!"
"There was this ancient sword-!"
"We got our shells kicked-!"
"Ninjas, besides us-!"
"They were robbing from the museum-!"
We all said, speaking at the same time. Master Splinter, suddenly took his staff and hit it hard on the ground, making us all fall silent.
"Leonardo, what is going on?" He asked, wanting a straight answer.
"Sensi, we were out on patrol when we saw these ninjas trying to steal an ancient sword from a museum, but it had some sort of power, and we couldn't stop it."
"Here, I got their symbol!" Micky said, holding out a piece of cloth he had in his hand. Master Splinter took the cloth from Mikey and inspected it closely. The symbol, was in the shape of a dragons foot, and was red. The more I looked at it, the more I got a strange feeling that I have seen the symbol somewhere before.
"What does this symbol mean Master Splinter?" Leo asks.
"Trouble." Master Splinter said, sternly.
"You know something about these ninjas?" Raph asked surprised. "Where did they come from? Who do they work for?"
"And what do they want with a magic sword?" Mikey added.
"Nope, not magic." Donny said, cutting in. "Probably more like a self-perpetuating oscillation frequency generator."
"Donny, you're doing that thing again, when no one knows what you're talking about." I said, seeing the confused look on all the guys faces.
"Ya, in English this time, Einstein."
"It packs a shockwave that'll knock you flat on your shell." Don said, explaining in more simple terms.
"We gotta go after these creeps!" Raph said, pulling out his sais.
"No." Master Splinter said, stopping Raph. "A wise ninja does not seek out an enemy he does not fully understand."
"But Sensi, Bushido demands that we fight with honor and justice and-"
"Bushido also demands that you honor your Masters wishes!" Splinter said, cutting off Leo. Master Splinter gave us all a look, as if daring us to protest, but we didn't push the subject anymore.
"I will meditate upon this matter further, Goodnight." Master Splinter said, heading into his room, and closed the door.
"Ahh, undergrounded again." MIkey said, in defeat. Then Don seemed to go into deep thought.
"What is it Donny?" I asked.
"I got it!" Don said, then he ran across the lair.
"Where are you going brainiac?" Raph asks, as we follow Don over to his work station, where he had a computer. He started typing on it frantically.
"There's more than one way to seek out your enemy." Don said. "Since the ninja's seem to be the ones causing the blackouts, I can hack into the power companies computer system, and see if any more blackouts occur."
"So all we gotta do is wait for a blackout." I confirmed.
"Yep, but I don't think anything else will be happening tonight." Don said, watching as new screens popped up on the computer. Mikey stretched and yawned.
"Well, I'm gonna hit the sack then, night guys."
Leo and Raph went to do there own things to. I took a seat next to Don to keep him company for a bit. I looked at the computer screens, none of it making sense to me, but to Don it probably seemed like childs play.
"Wanna give hacking another try, Kim?" Don asks, noticing me sitting beside him. I tried hacking before, but I never really got the hang of it. I shrugged.
"Sure, why not."
So we waited the rest of the night, and the rest of the day, seeing if anything would happen. Don helped me with my hacking, but then after I couldn't even hack into Don's email account, we decided to stop for the night. I hit the punching bag with Raph for a while, and then trained with Leo for the rest of the night.
The next day, after breakfast me, Mikey, and Raph got into an intense Call-of-Duty match. Then we had a huge teamwork training session for the rest of the day.
"God my legs hurt!" I said, plopping onto the couch.
"I'll called it." Mikey said, rubbing his arm to try to rub away the stiffness. I got off the couch.
"I need something to eat." I say, heading towards the kitchen.
"Can ya bring back a bag of chips?" Mikey asks.
"Ya sure."
I go into the kitchen and grab a bag of Cheetos and a bag of Lays chips. I go back to the living room and Mikey has a comic book. I toss him the Lays chips, and he catches the bag with one hand.
"Thanks Kim." Mikey says, not even looking up from the book. I plop onto the lazy boy and grab the remote which is on the table, and turn on the TV. I flipped through the channels, trying to find something to watch. Then the TV turns to BBC.
"Ohh! Doctor Who!" I squeal, turning up the volume a bit.
"What's up with the big cheese?" Mikey asks suddenly, looking towards Master Splinter's room. "He's been zoning in there all day."
"It's that ninja symbol." Leo said, while working on his Bushido stances. "It's got Sensi all weirded out."
"Enough of this waiting around!" Raph says, as he kicks at the punching bag, making it almost fall off of it's stand. "I say we head topside, kick ninja butt, take ninja names, and find out the whole ninja story for ourselves!"
Every other punch Raph makes get harder and harder, until he did a back kick, ripping the head off of the punching bag, and making the head fly across the room and land into Mikey's chip bag.
"Come on Raph that was the fifth one I fixed this week!" I said, walking over to the chip bag and grabbed the head.
"Woah, reminded me not to get on your bad side dude." Mikey said.
"To late." Raph said, marching towards the door. Suddenly, Leo jumped in front of Raph.
"Hang on Raph! No ones going anywhere." Leo said, crossing his arms.
"Guys! Check this out!" Don called out. "There seems to be another blackout down by the South Street Seaport."
"I smell a rat. And I don't mean Splinter." Raph said. He turned to head out the door, with Don and Mikey following behind him. I grabbed my bow, from the living room table and headed after them.
"Hang on guys! Splinter told us-"
"Not to go after the ninjas," Raph said, cutting off Leo. "He didn't say anything about not investigating power failures."
"Excellent! I have a few new surveillance toys I wanna test." Don says.
"Sweet! I love new toys." I say following behind Don.
"But,-" Leo said, but we were already heading down the tunnel. "Ugh, wait up!" I heard Leo say behind us.
We made it topside, and headed to the South Street Seaport. We decided to get a better view of the port, from on top of a near by bridge. We scaled up the side of the bridge and got to the top. We stood near the edge, and looked over the city.
"Total blackout. Just like last night." Raph stated. Don started rummaging through his satchel.
"But this time I came prepared." Don said, holding up what looked like night vision goggles. Then Mikey quickly took them from Donny.
"Awesome!" Mikey said, putting on the goggles and waved his hands in front of his face. "Total turtle vision!"
Don, came up behind Mikey, and grabbed them back from him.
"Night vision, actually."
"How do we survey such a large area?" Leo asks.
"I came prepared for that too!" Don said, then he pulled a string on the backpack he was wearing and suddenly, what looked like a hang glider popped out. "I've been dying to try this puppy!"
"Wow! That's so cool!" I said walking up to Don, to look at the hanglider.
"I know! I designed it myself." Don said, proudly.
"You mean you haven't tested it yet?!" Leo asked, worried.
"Dude, how is he suppose to test a flying machine in the swears?" Mikey pointed out.
"We'll stay in touch via shellcell. I've worked out all the theoretical aerodynamics!" Don said. Then he quickly ran, towards the edge of the bridge. "It's practically fool-PROOF!" Don shouted as he jumped off the bridge. He flew down towards the river.
"Ya, but is it Don proof?" Raph said, sarcastically.
"I call flying next!" I said, excited.
"Don? Don!" Leo said, trying to talk to Don through the shellcell. There was static for a moment and then we could hear Don's voice.
"I'm ok, uh...no problem." Don said, not sounding to sure.
"Yet." I said.
"Woah!" Don's voice shouted through the shellcell.
"What did I tell ya?" I said, chuckling a bit.
"I just forgot to compensate the wind drag on my bo-staff. Heh"
Then I saw Don, fly past us.
"Go Don!" I whooped. Then Don's voice came on the shellcell again.
"Guys, I'm picking up something strange down on the river."
"What is it?" Leo asks.
"It looks like...there searching for something under the water."
"Who's searching?" I ask.
"It's our ninja buddies again, and they have that sword they stole rigged up to some kind of migrational cannon. I'm over pior 16."
"Where there. Let's go guys!" Leo says, then we start heading back down the side of the bridge.
"I'm going in for a closer-AHH!" Don's voice startled us. Leo quickly picked up the shellcell, as we still made our way down the bridge.
"Don what is it?" He asks.
"Mayday! Mayday! I'm going down!" Don voice said. Then there was static.
"Don, can you hear me! Say something bud!" Leo said, trying to get ahold of Don. We waited a few moments, and then there was a weird sound that sounded like Don spitting.
"Man! That water stinks!" Dons voice says. "And this is from a turtle that lives in the sewer." I breathed out a sigh of relief.
"Oh, thank god. I almost had a heart attack!" I said.
"I think we all almost had a heart attack." Leo said, agreeing. We ran down the dock towards pior 16. Then we saw the machine Donny must have saw. It looked like a ray gun shooting down into the water, looking for something.
"We have a visually on the cannon." Leo says, talking through the shellcell. "I only see two guys, but that just means the others are hiding."
Suddenly, as if on cue, a group of ninjas jumped in out of nowhere, surrounding us.
I hate it when he's right!" Mikey said. "LET'S TURTLEIZE THEM!" The guys said, taking out there weapons. (Insert facepalm)
"I'm just not going to say anything anymore." I said, pulling out my bow. The guys quickly jumped into fighting the ninjas. A group of ninjas came charging at me. I loaded my bow with a cable arrow, and shot it at the mask of a near by boat. I pressed a button on my bow, and the cable started to pull me up towards the mask.
"Come and get me ya ninja wannabes!" I said, as I flew in the air. When I got to the top, I quickly got onto the mask, and pulled out my arrow. The ninjas followed me, climbing up the mask. I grabbed a nearby rope, and swung like Tarzan towards the ninjas climbing up the mask.
"Coming through!" I called, before I kicked a ninja off the mask. The ninja fell off, hitting another ninja on his way down. I let go of the rope, and hit the deck with a soft thunk. A ninja came up behind me, trying to hit me with his sword. I blocked the blow with my bow, then I jumped over him and kicked him behind the head, making him fall to the floor.
"Avast, ye scurvy sea dogs!" Mikey said, behind me, doing his best pirate voice. "Shiver me timbers and blow me down!"
Mikey backed up into me, then I noticed we were cornered, by three oncoming ninjas.
"Ok, about that blow me down part...I didn't mean it!" Mikey said. I loaded my bow, ready to shoot, but then suddenly a sail, came down on the ninjas, trapping them underneath. Me and Mikey looked up and saw Leo standing on the mask above us.
"Thanks, Bro!" Mikey said. Suddenly there was a sound from above us. I looked up and saw a helicopter come in. It seemed to belong to the ninjas, because the helicopter lowered a claw into the river to retrieve whatever the ninjas were looking for.
Suddenly, a ninja I didn't charged at me with his sword.
"Whoa!" I said, ducking his sword. I fell backwards on the ground and the ninja tried to hit me with his sword again, but I rolled to the side and he missed me. I then kipped up from the ground and back kick the ninja in the back.
Once the fighting was over we all gathered together quick.
"I think this team work effort gets the most improved!" Leo said.
"School's not out yet." Don says pointing over to the helicopter. "That's one cool as shell chopper!"
Then suddenly the helicopter lifted something out of the river. It looked like a person, but I could tell it was a statue or maybe armor. It was covered with seaweed and algae.
"What's up with barnacle bill?" Mikey asks.
"Whatever it is, it can't be good." Raph said, as we ran down the dock toward the cannon. It was still on and it was glitching like crazy. We got to the pior just as they turned it off and tried to run for it. I quickly loaded my bow with four arrows and shot them around the guards.
"Where do you think your going?" I asked, loading my bow again, and pointed my bow at them. They took one look at my bow, and instantly ran for the river, screaming all the way. But then Don stopped them, by jumping in front of them.
"Dudes, you really shouldn't be playing with such dangerous toys."
Soon we had them surrounded. But then one of the ninjas pulled out a gadget, and started shooting lasers at us. We had to duck from the lasers, as the ninja pointed it at us. Leo quickly ran up behind him though and kicked him in the chest as he turned around. But when the guy fell, the laser was still going and it sliced a hole into the computer on the cannon. The whole canon started to glitch even more and shake the whole platform we were standing on, making me fall over. The tech ninjas were at the computer typing frantically.
"It's over loading! I can't control it!" One said.
"Who cares! We're leaving!" The ninja said, pointing up to the helicopter. The helicopter came and the tech guys grabbed onto the land skids, and got into the helicopter.
"They're getting away!" Raph said, as the helicopter took off. Suddenly the cannon started moving on it's own and it moved over the dock, shooting it's laser beams.
"I think we got bigger problems!" Don said, pointing over to dock. The whole pior started to collapse. The buildings fell into the water, and the concrete began to crack.
"Talk about bad vibes!" Mikey said.
"Not funny Mike!" Raph said.
"Don! Can you shut it down?" Leo asked.
"Well...I might be able to disconnect the sword from the accelerator. But crossing the power terminator could result in a feedback loop that might…" Don said, going into his technical speech.
"Donny, whatever! Meantime let's point this thing away from civilization!" Leo ordered. Me, Raph, Leo and Mikey all made our way over to the barrel of the cannon, so we started pushing it, trying to get it to move. We pushed with all our might, but then suddenly a different helicopter came.
"This is the police! You on the pior! Stop where you are!" A voice said, on the helicopters speakers.
"Great, it's the boys in blue!" I said.
"Hurry up Don! Before we end up on America's most Wanted Reptiles!" Raph said.
"Almost there!" Don said, pulling at some wires. He put two wires together, but then it made a weird noise. "Uh, oh."
The canon started to move.
"Whoa!" I said, and quickly jumped out of the way. The canon started to spin in circles, throwing Don off.
"We gotta steady this thing!" Leo said. Then I saw a crowbar, not to far away from me.
"I'm on it!" I said, getting up. I grabbed the crowbar and went over to the machine. I waited for the cannon to be pointing out at the river, before I slammed the crowbar into the rotating part of the cannon. With a loud grinding noise, the cannon came to a stop. Don tried to grab the sword, but when he touched it, he yelped in pain, because it burnt him.
"Here, try this!" Leo said, throwing Don a glove he found on the ground. The glove had the ninja symbol on it and it looked like it was made out of metal. Don slipped on the metal glove and tried again. This time he was able to grab the sword, without burning himself, but when Don removed the sword, the machine started beeping and made a weird noise.
"Let's get out of here!" Don shouted. We all ran for the end of the platform and jumped off. We started running down the pior as far away from the canon as possible. Luckily the canon shook the platform so much, it fell into the water with a load crash and the water muffled the explosion a little.
"Woah, awesome light show!" Mikey said. Then the police helicopter from before, started to scan the dock with a searchlight.
"And speaking of light shows." Leo said, and we took that as our cue to get the shell out of their.
Once back to the lair we gave the sword to Master Splinter to look at. We also learned that you can't hold the sword at all without the glove. Mikey learned that the hard way.
"The design is unmistakably 11th century Japanese." Master Splinter said, holding the sword. "But the metal is unlike any I have ever seen. Clearly there is more to this sword then meets the eye. It would be best if it was to remain out of the wrong hands."
Master Splinter set the sword on a stand on Don's lab table. All the guys left to go to bed, since it was so late at night, but I stayed by Don's lab table and looked at the sword and glove. I picked up the glove and looked at the symbol. I been thinking about the symbol none stop since I first saw it. I ran my fingers down the smooth surface of the glove.
I swore that I've seen this symbol before I thought.
Wow! I finally got done! I hope you guys like it! But to be honest, I hope I never have to write 'LET'S TURTLEIZE THEM!' ever again. I also love all the reviews I've been getting! Your guys are the best! :D
