Anyway enjoy :-)
Charley carefully pushed herself to her feet eyes flicking around the empty field but always settling back on the stone benches, heart hammering in her chest as memories of Jess describing those very ones flashed through her mind. Despite all the nightmares the last while she had never dreamed of this place, at least she had no memory of dreaming about it.
Charley cautiously began to walk in the direction of the benches a strange chill making her shiver in the breeze less clearing. When she was close enough the designs etched into the stone began to take shape, the one she focused on the most was the one that bared the mixed marking belonging to Jess. Charley couldn't help the wave of grief that hit her when she saw those markings, eyes welling but no tears fell and a sudden surge of anger flashed though her. She was pissed, at everything, Jess keeping her secret, the goddesses taking Jess from them she even felt angry at being brought into this world in the first place. But as soon as she thought about Sam she deflated, anger leaving her as quickly as it set in and Charley moved closer to the stones benches. Just as her hand was reaching to touch the mixed markings she felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end and knew there was something watching her.
Even though Charley was not expecting to see nothing when she turned, the form of a huge white wolf no more than 3 feet away still made her gasp and scramble backwards landing her in the centre of the ring of benches. The wolf sat patiently head tilted to one side as if waiting for Charley to do something.
"Badb?" she said slowly and just as the name passed her lips a purple glow began to radiate out from the wolf. Charley covered her face with her hand shying away from the harsh glow until it dimmed. She was reluctant to look where the glow had now stopped Charley was afraid she would not be able to hold herself together as the idea that this might not just be a dream went through her mind.
The silence seemed to stretch on for hours as Charley kept her head turned and eyes screwed shut, refusing to look. A gentle touch to her shoulder made her tense, tears beginning to squeeze out from her closed eyes as Charley fought back the urge to break down sobbing.
Charley heard a low gasp and suddenly she was pulled into a warm embrace with that her walls broke.
Shhh Child, all will be well Badb's voice said soothingly. Charley could not stand to open her eyes she refused to lean into the comforting form, staying rigid as she cried through her pain. Time seemed to crawl past as Charley continues to cry, her sobs subsiding but tears still flowing. She didn't want the arms around her anymore, it only made her angry so she struggled and pushed, scurrying backwards until her back smacked painfully against one of the stone benches, curling her knees up to hide beneath her arms and the arms that had held her fell away with no fight to keep her there.
Oh my... Charley startled hearing a hushed voice come from behind her and sounding distinctively different from the one that had tried to comfort her. She wanted to be stubborn but with the silence weighing heavily on her she bit the bullet, scrubbing her hands over her face as she opened her eyes.
Sat in front of her were two women the one kneeling on the ground had wild red hair framing her beautiful face also presumably the one that had been trying to comfort her and the other a golden blonde haired beautiful woman crouched a little behind, both looking on at her with twin expressions of concern.
You know who we are, don't you? The red head asked gently, leaning forward slightly but stopped when Charley glared at her out stretched hand.
"I know who you are" Charley answered coldly, both women's faces fell slightly hearing that iced tone. The blonde woman shifted to kneel next to the red head, both women sharing a look.
My name is Athena, this is Badb I know you are angry but please... Charley's temper flared
"Angry? You think I'm just angry?..."
We need to explain please, it's not...
"You killed her, you brought us here to fix a mess that wasn't ours...put Jess through unbearable pain, had us leave our families...all for Jess to stick a knife in her chest..." Charley was fighting the effort to control her temper, somewhere in her subconscious she knew it wasn't a good idea to yell at a goddess.
It's not that simple there's more to it. That's why we brought you here, because it's safer to speak
"Why should I listen to anything you have to say? I don't care what..."
Jessica is alive Badb whispered carefully, Charley froze, eyes wide and mind working over time
"No. Don't do that. I saw what she did..."
She did what we asked her too including not telling you about her sacrifice. If she told any of you what the final act was it could have ruined any chance of our powers helping her
"Helping her what?" Charley asked, terrified at the hope pouring through her system
Badb took a deep breath, there was a lot to go through but now it was safe to let Charley know.
After what felt like hours later Badb and Athena had finally finished with their story, a fresh round of tears fell from Charley's eyes, but this time they were not tears of pain but of joy.
"So she had to keep us in the dark or we wouldn't...she'd never..."
Or she would have never been able to be brought back Badb finished
It was a very delicate balance, so much power involved in it and yet we had to be very careful
"But she's alive...She's coming back to us?" Charley asked brokenly
She will be going back to you...but we need one thing from you first
"Anything?" she leaned forwards eagerly all of them still sitting on the ground in the middle of the stone benches.
Her soul Jessica's spirit and life force we have safe and healed from the power that had been flowing through her. All we need from you is a single drop of blood. You and Jessica are for all intensive purpose's sisters and the drop you give us will finish what the magic is trying to. We didn't realise it was need until now or we would not have left it so long.
Charley studied both women in front of her, her trust wavering but the thought that made her decision for her was Jess, she trusted these two enough to sacrifice her life.
"Alright, I'll do it...But once you get this what happens?"
Once we introduce your blood it will finish the spell and my Cauldron will create Jess as she was. Everything about her will be the same, right down to the tattoo's we etched on her Charley was finding it harder and harder to stay focused on what they were saying as the excitement set in
Also...we would like it very much if you let us mark you as we did Jessica? Now that little request made Charley snap back "Why?" she asked and she watched as Badb inched forward on her knees her face heart wrenchingly sincere
You two have sacrificed your lives, Jessica's may seem more prominent but you both embraced the fact that we up rooted you from your world, you gave that life up and focused on the tasks we gave you on no more than faith. For that we are eternally thankful, you are just as important to us as she is.
Our marking will follow your family forever, we will watch over your line for generations to come, including the little life force now growing inside you...
Charley's mouth dropped open as she gasped "What?"
You are with child Charlene Athena and Badb smiled and watched the play of emotions cross the young girls face, shock, disbelief, realisation and finally joy as she place her hand over her stomach
"I'm pregnant?" she asked quietly
Yes and she will be every bit as lovely as her parents, she has a very pretty glow
"She?" Charley whispered
Badb nodded and smiled at the girl in front of her watching as she fell unconditionally in love with the new life growing inside her. Charley's smile was blinding, her heart racing with the news of her and Sam being parents and that Jess was alive, that they were going to get her back. A fleeting flash of relief went through Charley as she thought of Dean, he would be ok now.
"What do I need to do?" Charley asked, smile still lingering on her face and hand still place affectionately on her stomach
We will take a single drop of blood, follow the light from the moons glow outside and Jessica will be there, she will need rest but she will be alright. You will feel a warmth but do not fear Badb placed a hand on Charley's shoulder Athena smiled and reached to do the same then repeated the same words Jess had heard when this all begun, Close your eyes and relax
With that Charley let her eyes fall closed, she could see the light of purple and gold through her closed lids and feel the warmth spreading from the two hands on her shoulders, she let herself slip into that warmth.
Sam stood and stretched the kinks out of his back, his whole body felt stiff and sore because he had been hunched over a desk the last four hours. Bobby and himself had been researching like two crazed men looking for anything to give them answers. Ellen had called Bobby a day ago for advice but Sam knew he had itchy feet so with a few kind but firm words Bobby was on his way to the Roadhouse. Sam huffed out a sigh as he walked towards the kitchen mind set on a fresh cup of coffee and hitting the books again. As he passed the living room he glanced inside and paused, Dean sat in the single chair, fire lit and beer in hand and he looked zoned out. Sam moved quickly to the kitchen grabbed two beers and heading back into his brother.
Dean only noticed Sam when he yanked the empty bottle from his hand and placed the new one in front of him.
"Thanks Sammy" Dean's voice even sounded strained and tired, his eyes sunken in and red, Sam couldn't tell if it was from lack of sleep or if his brother had been crying but he didn't pass comment on it. Instead he sat down across from him and sipped from his own chilled bottle.
"What are you researching?" Dean asked suddenly, his gaze fixed on the fire
Sam sighed and huffed out a frustrated breath "I'm trying to see what happened or rather how it happened"
Dean nodded solemnly "Find anything?"
"No man, nothing. I can't piece any of it together, I found summoning rituals for the goddesses and tried all of them...but I got nothing"
Dean nodded again, he knew Sam had his own way of dealing with stuff and that was research but Dean just couldn't stomach the thoughts of finding none of the answers he wanted. For now he'd wait, maybe after a bit more time he could but even the idea of finding nothing, no reason as to why Jess was gone...he couldn't, not yet. Dean sighed and downed the rest of his beer in a few gulps "I'm gonna hit the head then go to bed Sam..."
Sam just nodded and watched as Dean heaved himself up and walked towards the stairs, he was relieved Dean was at least staying indoors tonight at least he would be lying down, god knows what way he had been passing out in that garage. He listened as his brothers boots stomped up the stairs, gearing himself up to head back into Bobby's back room where he had a disorganised pile of useless information.
"SAM!"
Sam jerked when he heard Dean roar his name, his bear bottle slipping from his fingers to clatter off the floor as he sprung to his feet and raced up the stairs. Once there he saw Dean standing in the doorway of the room Charlie was in, clutching the door frame wide eyed. Panic rushed through his system as he ran towards the door, fearing that something was wrong with Charley. What he saw made his legs feel weak and his breath rush out of his lungs, stealing a glanced in Deans direction he saw the same fear and anticipation plastered on his face.
Charley still lay on the bed where Sam had placed her only a few hours earlier but from her there radiated purple and silver swirls of light, making the whole room light up.
Sam gently pushed past a shell shocked Dean and sat next to Charley on the bed, Sam was almost afraid to touch her but still reached his hand out intent on waking her. Dean's hand flashed out to grip his wrist stilling his movement.
"Don't Sam, just wait" Dean stared at Charley's glowing form flash backs of the very same thing happening to Jess ricocheting through his head.
"I can't wait Dean I need to make sure..." Sam was panicking what if Charley was being taken she said it was a glowing light just like the one emanating from her that had transported them to their world to begin with.
Pulling Sam's wrist away from Charley Dean kept pulling until Sam was standing and more than a few feet away from the bed. "I know alright but this happened to Jess..." he swallowed painfully "...the same thing happened when she was dreaming of them that time, remember?" Sam eyes stayed fixed on Charley but he shot a look at Dean and saw the worry there, so they both stood and waited, tension rolling off the two brothers as they moved to stand either side of the bed.
Charley was lying on her side, face relaxed and hands curled under the pillow under her head and she looked more at peace now that what she had the last few weeks. Sam studied her face, the dark circles under her eyes were gone, her hair seemed fuller and healthier, her skin looked radiant and the natural pink colour was back in her cheeks. He wasn't sure if it was because of the purple and silver glow but one way or another she looked amazing.
Dean studied Charley as well, noticing all the same things that Sam had except with him all he could do was compare her to how Jess had looked all lit up with her magic. It had suited her to the bone, she had looked ethereal and like something out of a dream, gezz if someone was in my head now.
Sam was counting the minutes in his head, after ten minutes and still no change he was edgy when it came to twenty minutes he was borderline panicked. He couldn't keep his thoughts all locked up anymore.
"Do you think she'll be like this much longer?" Sam whispered, his question snapping Dean out of his own thoughts
"I don't know man..." he glanced at Sam flicking his eyes back to Charley when he saw the raw emotion on his little brothers face that same look he used to get when he was a kid and he wanted his big brother to make everything better, "...When it happened to Jess I was asleep at first so I don't know how long it lasted Sammy, but Jessie was fine after it" he tried to reassure Sam, who nodded and looked back to Charley.
After another ten minutes there was a change, the swirls began to shift and change moving around Charley settling over her back as it started to dim. Sam scrambled to his feet and moved up the top of the bed, eyes fixed on Charley's face. Eventually the light's vanished and left a heavy silence, the brothers waiting with bated breath for Charley to wake up. When she seemed to stay asleep Sam looked over his shoulder to Dean.
"Should I wake her up?" he asked unsure
Dean sighed and scrubbed a hand through his hair, "Your call man, I mean she'll wake up on her own and all but..." he trailed of, his thoughts and emotions whirling around inside of him, terrified of the small blossoming feeling of hope in the pit of his stomach that maybe they would get answers, maybe Charley knew something about Jess's death.
Despite his own head melting about what just happened, Sam could see the tension rolling off of Dean, turning back to Charley he set his hand gently on her shoulder and shook her lightly.
"Charley...Charley, come we need you to wake up baby..." Sam gentle coaxed Charley awake letting out a relieved breath when he heard her sigh sleepily and saw her eyes begin to flutter.
Charley could feel a warm hand stroking lightly up and down her arm, she slowing came awake to see Sam sitting on the side of the bed and Dean standing just over his shoulder, both looking wrecked with worry. Charley frowned, something nagging in the back of her mind.
"Charley, are you OK?" Sam asked brushing a stray strand of hair away from her face
"Wh...Why wouldn't I be?" she sat up and again that nagging at the back of her mind was there.
"Charley...you were glowing..." Sam trailed off and all of a sudden Charley gasped, eyes widening and heart racing she scurried out of bed and ran flat out to the bathroom, flicking the light on and totally deaf to the questions Sam and Dean were firing at her.
Sam and Dean jumped with Charley's sudden movement, "Wow...Charley what's wrong? Charley..."
"Hay Charley...wait a sec..." Dean and Sam followed after her and stopped as if they hit a wall
There stood Charley in the bathroom shirt collar pulled down at the back of her neck so it stretched the material to the point where it was pulling stitches. But, on her back there was a design, intricate swirls and delicate angles that looked painfully familiar but totally different at the same time.
Dean stared speechless at the tattoo now on the back of Charley's neck, it didn't look like it went across her shoulders or down her back like Jessie's had, and it was smaller than that.
Sam gaped, mouth gone dry and found he couldn't get what he wanted to say out, "Charley..." he whispered her eyes meet his in the reflection on the mirror, her eyes welling up as realisation hit her that the dream was real. Sam misunderstood and thought she was hurting, he found the ability to move again as he entered the bathroom and went to pull her into his arms. Before he could a blazing smile broke out across her face, stilling Sam and shocking Dean, she hiccuped as the tears fell now but there was no mistaking the pure joy radiating from her face now.
"It was real..." she said, voice strained from emotion "...the dream was real"
Sam frowned and Dean stepped forward "What was..." Dean asked but his voice trailed off as a light began to glow outside the bathroom window. Charley's head whipped around to see what Dean was looking at and she hiccuped a sob again, to over whelmed to tell the brothers anything as she ran out of the bathroom, raced down the stairs and threw the front door open.
"Charley wait...Jesus!" Sam and Dean ran after her taking the stairs two at a time and saw as Charley's figure ran around towards the back of the house. They ran to catch up with her and could see another glow forming in the middle of the fields at the back of Bobby's house.
Charley was yards in front of them her small frame pumped full of adrenaline as she tried to reach the spot where the moons glow hit the ground. She knew she was there once she saw the swirls of light starting to flow up from the long grass, first making a circle then dancing up towards the sky. The blue, purple and silver swirls started to get brighter, twirling up higher and higher until it seemed like they touch the moon itself. Charley was now on her knees next to the circle of magic, she could feel the warmth and energy caressing her face leaving a feeling of comfort and peace in its wake. Charley could vaguely hear Sam's shouts from behind her but she knew the two boys would catch up with her eventually.
Suddenly the lights seemed to swell and became so bright that just as Sam and Dean were in reach of Charley they had to stop and cover their eyes. Sam's heart was in his stomach, God no she can't be gone...please, "Charley!" he shouted
Dean was right there with him, the last thing he wanted was for his little brother to lose Charley, he shouted for her too. When the light eventually started to pull in and flow back down towards the ground, the glare died enough that Sam and Dean could see the form of a person. Sam nearly sobbed when he recognised the colour of Charley's hair shining with the light around her, spots danced in front of his vision as he stumbled towards her.
Dean followed suit, still shielding his eyes from the last of the light as it finally settled back on the ground the circle giving one last pulse of light before going out completely.
And in the centre of that circle there lay Jess, covered with a flowing white dress that had those so familiar designed on it. Charley was still crying tears flowing freely now as she crawled towards Jessie's still form. She stopped when she got to her side and reached a shaking hand out to her face, the warmth that hit her hands made Charley cry harder.
Sam and Dean stood shock washing over them, Sam recovered first as he took the last few steps towards Charley. He slowly lowered himself down next to her, eyes still fixed on Jess" Is she..." he struggled, couldn't get the words out but Charley answered anyway
"She's alive...she's alive Sam..." Charley threw herself at Sam, arms flung around his waist, as tears welled in his own eyes. But he had to make sure himself, so he reached out and touched her hand feeling the same warmth Charley had and now that he looked properly he could see she was breathing.
"I don't understand how this is possible?"
Charley pulled back reaching out to take Jessie's hand and tired to get her breathing under control "I dreamt of them, they told me everything...She couldn't tell us Sam, if she told us what she had to do it would have interfered with everything and she wouldn't have been able to come back to us..." she breathed
"She knew that...that she'd be back?" Dean whispered still standing where he had been, shock only letting his mind understand what had happened now. Charley twisted so she could see him.
"Yeah Dean, she knew she would be back"
With that Dean's legs found there strength again as he stumbled over and dropped to his knees the other side of Jessie. He reached out a hand and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, his eyes drinking in her features and following the line of her neck, his breath hitched as he saw her chest rising and falling. The threeo sat, none of them prepared to move just yet, Sam with Charley practically on his lap, Charley still gripping one of her hands. Dean wanted nothing more than to scoop her up and never let her go again, he didn't even care how sappy that made him sound.
"We should get her inside..." Charley said softy, Dean nodded, sliding one hand under her shoulders and the other under her knees he lifted and cradle Jess into his chest. He couldn't help but lean in and place a soft kiss on the top of her head as they set off back to the house.
