At Storms End, Robert Baratheon sat at his grand table where the maester had said to meet him. He sipped some rich, red wine from Dorne. Maester Jurne wandered in, his brown hair thinning on the top of his head. He was a young maester but he was wise beyond his years. He looked very solemn. Jurne took a seat across from Robert. He took out a rolled up piece of parchement from one of the many hidden pockets in a maester's robe. He pushed it across the table.
"What's this?" Robert asked picking up the message
"It's from Kings Landing" Jurne simply said
"The king is dead by his own son's hand" Robert said looking shocked
"Why would Rhaegar do such a thing?" Jurne asked
"For Lyanna" Robert said chugging down the rest of his goblet of wine
"So who will be King now? Will it be Rhaegar even though he committed regicide, kingslaying and kinslaying?" Jurne asked
"I'm not letting that tratorous bastard be king, he killed his own father and king. The Gods can not forgive that" Robert said putting his goblet down on the table
"Also there was another message from Kings Landing, before Aerys was killed he was going to burn Lyanna, he had her in chains" Jurne explained
"So that is the reason Rhaegar killed him" Robert said loudly "But he is still a kinslayer"
"What are you going to do?" Jurne asked
"Write a letter to Ned in Winterfell say 'the new king is a kinslayer' and that his sister is in danger. Ask his father to call their banners. We are going to war" Robert said leaving the room
Jurne got out a parchment from a pocket in his robe and wrote a letter to the Starks:
As you have probably heard, the king is dead by his son's own hand. The realm will be ruled by a kinslayer and the Gods will not forgive that. The Seven Kingdoms will go to ruin. Lyanna is in danger if she stays with him. We need to get him off the throne and Lyanna to safety. I recommend you to call your banners and fight. If not for the realm, for Lyanna.
Jurne went up to the rookery and chose the fastest raven to deliver this important letter. The bird was released out of the large window as Jurne watched it fly North. To Winterfell. War was upon them all.
Rickard Stark was by the hart tree in the ancient Gods Wood. He slowly wiped down the mighty valiryan steel great sword, Ice, after beheading a deserter. The tree was weeping a crimson red sap from its carved out eyes. The pool in front of it was warmed than its surroundings so steam was rising. Rickard then watched his now eldest son run up to him with a message in hand.
"Maester Luwin just gave me this" Ned said and stood next to his father
"What is it about?" Rickard asked still cleaning Ice
"Robert is declaring war" Ned said coldly
"On who?" Rickard asked shocked
"The King, Rhaegar Targaryen"
"The Kinslayer?"
"Yes" Ned answer "It also says that Lyanna is in danger"
Rickard stopped cleaning Ice and looked up at his son. "Call the banners" He said
Ned went running to Maester Luwin and explained what was going on. The maester wrote the same letter multiple times and strapped each on to a raven and sent them flying in different directions. The banners were being called. They were going to war. Ned also thought that it would be appropriate to tell Robert of what was going on. He wrote the letter to Robert himself and said that the North would stand behind him when it came to war as long as his little sister was not harmed. They just needed to find out where she was at that moment.
Earlier that moon they had found out about her pregnancy and soon after they found out about Aerys' death. In Kings Landing things were happening fast, after the Starks had left one event seemed to follow another. Ned didn't like it. The widowed Catelyn Stark was still at Winterfell and heavily pregnant. After the child was born Ned had been told that he would marry her to keep the alliance with the Tullys of Riverrun. He would look after Brandons child as if it was his own.
Ned needed to go to Storms End to see his friend Robert. Ned had never liked Robert's wife Cersei Lannister, he didn't like the Lannisters in general, he had an odd feeling about them. They needed the West though and Tywin Lannister's army and gold. They are the richest in the Seven Kingdoms with huge gold mines.
All of the bannermen had gotten their armies ready for war. Each able bodied man was recruited to fight for the safety and justice of Westeros. Ned had never thought that he would do this. After meeting Rhaegar he had thought that he would make a good and just king but obviously he was wrong. He killed his own father. That was a crime punishable by death.
Sorry for the late chapter. Exams make it hard to find time to write. I will update soon though. Don't you worry your pretty little heads :) Sorry its a short chapter!
