Chapter 18:
The Stress of a Koopa Princess
...
Wendy was walked down the castle hall, heading towards her room. A small smile was present as she fiddled lightly with her new necklace with a slight daze look on her face. It was clear to say she had a good time tonight. But this didn't go unnoticed.
"Well, you seem happy tonight."
Wendy paused and turned around. Her older brother, Roy, stood behind her with a smug look on his face.
"Did you have fun on yur date?" he said.
Wendy scowled him. "How do you know I had a date? I could have just gone out by myself."
Roy scoffed. "Not in dat dress you would'a. Plus yur wearin' a necklace… A necklace you didn't have when you left." He cross his arm and smirked. "Admit it, you had a date tonight, and I'm guessin' whoever gave you dat necklace was da same guy you been secretly seein' fo' dat last week."
"And what if it is? Do you have a problem with me dating, Roy? If so, then that's awfully nice of you to show concern for your little sister."
Roy shrugged nonchalantly. "I don't care if you date or not; I jus' wanna know if King Dad's okay wit' it. You know how he gets…he has ta approved o' any suitas dat wishes ta court wit' ya."
Wendy did not forget about that. The only dates she ever had were the ones King Dad had set up for her with the suitors that he picked out. During the dates, she got to know them better and the results weren't as she had hoped. They weren't really interested in her per se as they were in her princess title status. They were only courting her to get a change to add up to their own status or climb up the social ladder.
Wendy crosses her arms. "I don't see why King Dad has to get so involved in my relationships. He barely notice when you or the others started dating."
"Hey, he gets involved; jus' not as much as he does wit' yours." Roy replies. "He's probably fussin' over yurs a lot because yur da only girl in da group."
Wendy was silent for a moment. She may not show it but sometimes she dislikes being the only female of the Koopalings. Sure, she gets plenty of King Dad's attention but she also carries all the stress and responsibilities of being the only Koopa princess.
"And besides," Roy continues "Yur not da only one who's gettin' King Dad's influences. Yur forgettin', Ludwig's had gotten as much heat as you are gettin' now, bein' da oldest and all." He let out a small chuckled. "You should'a seen da list o' suitresses he got when he turned eighteen."
This was true. Ludwig also got the long end of the stick. Being the oldest of Bowser's Koopalings, he was next in line to inherit the throne. Regardless of Bowser Junior being the king's real son and true heir, he was still too young and too irresponsible to uptake any responsibilities of being a king. So, until he can learn to (in a term Wendy use) grow up, Ludwig will be the one to be in charge.
"Still, there are some things I wish he wouldn't get so involve in."
Roy shrugged and looked away. "You know da king; he jus' wants ta be sure dat whoever we end up wit' will be loyal ta dat kingdom."
Wendy silently agreed with him. Another thing about being the only girl in the group; she was the only one capable of producing further generations of Koopas. Now, she was pretty sure she wasn't ready for any kids yet. She was still young, being nineteen, and still had her whole life ahead of her. But when that time does come, King Dad would want her to mate with someone loyal to him and the Koopa Kingdom. Plus, have some koopa grandkids around to continue on the evil legacy.
Wendy blushed slightly at the thought of having kids. She shook her head, casting that thought away. It was way too early in the relationship to be thinking about that. Her main concern now is trying to keep her new boyfriend's identify a secret from her family.
"Roy, leave your sister alone, can't you see she's tired from her night out?"
Both koopas turn to see Kammy approaching them. Roy frowned and explained his innocence.
"Hey, I wasn't tryin' ta upset her or anythin'. I was only remainin' her if she's datin' someone outside o' da castle, she should at least have King Dad meet him before he sets her up wit' someone else."
Kammy cross her arms. "I'm sure Wendy is aware of that. Our sister will bring in her new beau when she's ready." She turned to Wendy. "He is your new beau, correct?"
Wendy blushed and turned away. Kammy smiled. "Oh! I see a blush. It's a yes."
"Okay, I'm gonna bed before I have ta listen ta all dis 'girl talk'." Roy turned and headed for his room. "I'll see you guys in da mornin'."
"So Wendy," started Kammy "I see you got a new necklace. Did your new boyfriend get that for you?"
Wendy smiled. "Yes he did, and you were right about the dress, Kammy, he couldn't keep his eyes off me."
Kammy smirked. "See, what I tell you?"
"Plenty, Kammy, and I thank you for letting me borrow it for tonight."
"Consider it a gift; you have to look your best when impressing the boys."
Wendy smirked. "Oh, trust me, he was impress alright and so was everyone else."
"So tell me, what exactly happened."
Wendy explained what happened on her date, being careful not to mention anything about the place and people they were with. She told her everything, from the dress to the necklace to meeting his friends and his ex-girlfriend. Even after they had reached her room, she continues to tell her story. When she was telling her what happened when they were in the garden, she pause and looked away shyly.
"Oh, don't hold out on me now," said Kammy. "Tell me, what did he say?"
"He asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend and I say yes." Wendy blushed. "He got excited and kissed me on the lips."
"Ooh, you got your first kiss, I'm so proud of you." Kammy congratulated her. "So tell me, what happened next?"
"He apologized, stating he wasn't supposed to kiss me like that."
"Oh, so what did you say?"
"I asked him to demonstrate a proper kiss."
Kammy smirked. "I see, so basically you still hungry for seconds."
Wendy blushed when she said that.
"So how did the rest of your night go?"
"It was great. We dance and spent the whole night together. We're meeting each other again tomorrow."
"Ooh, this koopa sound like a great man; I can't wait to meet him. Any idea on when you're going to introduce him?"
Wendy rubbed her shoulder, not sure if she wants to 'introduce' him. "I don't know Kammy. I mean, our relationship is still new and all, and I don't want to rush into things."
"I understand, your highness, but you must know your father must be aware of him or else he won't allow you to continue seeing him."
"I know." Wendy sighed tiredly. 'Heck, even if he knew he wouldn't let me date him. After all, he's the younger brother of his most hated enemy.'
"Now, don't be discourage," said Kammy. "Think of it this way, the sooner you get the King's approval, the more likely he won't bother you when you two want to alone."
Wendy smiled. "That's one way to look at it, thanks Kammy."
"My pleasure; now, I better leave you to sleep so you're not so tired when you meet him again. Good night, princess."
"Good night, Kammy,"
Wendy entered her room as Kammy started to head for her own. She had a lot of questions, mainly on how she was going to introduce Luigi to her father and brothers. However, she decided to set those questions aside for a later date. Tonight she needed rest.
After changing into her night gown, she turned off the lights and headed straight to bed. She pulled the covers over her body and smiled.
"Good night, Luigi…"
