Authors note: Sorry it's short, but I'm having a major case of writers block. I just need to figure out where this story is going exactly. Anyway, I've decided to move this forwards a little, so I hope you enjoy! ;)
...
Emma was grinning as small stones crunched under the soles of her brown knee-high boots. The yellow file containing the sheriff's budget reports was clutched tightly in her left hand.
The mayor had been condemned to bed rest for the following two weeks and she'd called Graham, asking if he would 'be a dear' and stop by to bring her those budget reports he still owed her.
But alas - or actually not if you'd asked Emma - he needed to pick Leroy up from yet another public display of drunkenness. And so Emma had suggested she could be the one to stop by the pregnant mayor and drop them off. She'd even thrown in a comment about raging hormones when Graham seemed hesitant.
Yeah, that had him agreeing quick enough.
And so here she was. About to knock on the white front door of 108 Mifflin Street.
Her knuckles connected with the wood a total of three times, and not even a minute later the door was opened by- not Regina. No it was opened by a small four year old boy with tousled brown hair.
"Who are you?" He asked with a childlike grin, exposing his small white teeth.
Emma smiled and got on her knees so she could face the boy. "I'm Emma-"
"Henry!" Regina's sultry voice carried from inside the house and into Emma's eardrums. Oh how she loved that voice.
"Henry, I told you; you can't just open the door to strangers, you should let mommy do it, sweethea-"
Regina's brown eyes snapped up and darkened the moment she saw the blonde deputy standing on her porch. "Miss Swan." Regina didn't have the energy to hide the obvious disdane in her low voice.
"Again, Madame Mayor, it's deputy." Emma smiled as she got to her feet again. It was only now that she finally noticed the casual clothing the mayor was wearing. The brunette was wearing a black, skintight legging and an oversized sweatshirt that - even though it was at least two sizes too big - still showed the obvious roundness of her pregnant belly.l "And I was under the impression you were condemned to bed rest."
Regina's eyes blazed fire as she trained her gaze on the blonde deputy. "Not that it's any of your business, deputy, but the doctor said rest, not bed rest."
"Me and mommy were gowin to watch Cars togethe!" Henry squeeld with pure joy as he wrapped his small arms around his mother's leg. "But mommy can't reach it!" He pouted.
"Oh well, I can help with that." Emma grinned. "Work is quiet today anyways."
"Miss Swan, that's totally unnecessary." Regina objected with a warning tone.
"But mommy, I wanna watch Cars real bad!" Henry whimpered as he tightened his grip around Regina's tanned calf.
"Yeah, he wants to watch Cars real bad, Madam Mayor." Emma smiled, a mischievous look in her eyes.
"Fine, but you will immediatly leave after that, Miss Swan. I will not have you in my house any longer then I need to." The brunette whispered dangerously as she opened the door further and stepped out off the way to let the smug looking blonde in.
"Which way, Madame Mayor?" Regina didn't answer, she just stormed passed the blonde, expecting the deputy to follow. Which Emma did, but not after rolling her eyes and letting out a loud huff.
"It's on that shelf, miss Swan." Regina said as she pointed at the colorful DVD. She had first tried to grab it herself, but all the stretching had caused the painful stings to return to her lower abdomen. Her hand moved slow circles on her stomach as she put her other hand on her lower back, trying to relieve some of the ache she had been feeling ever since she hit the six months.
But when she saw Emma's green eyes follow the hand on her stomach with a knowing look, Regina stopped immediately and dropped her hand down to hang next to her body. She didn't need that woman to see any of her weaknesses. And the irony was that Regina had many, even though she didn't show them. Ever.
"Alright." Emma said as she put on a smile again for the little boy that was standing next to his mother, excitement evident on his face. She stood on her toes to grab the DVD and then asked herself how in the hell Regina would've gotten this thing up there in the first place. The brunette was shorter than her and Emma had to stand on her toes already. But she quickly stopped when she realized then Regina used to have a husband to do these kind of things. Grabbing things from heights the brunette couldn't reach, fix things around the house.
And now Regina had to do it all alone.
Emma could just see that it pained the brunette that she wasn't able to do something as simple as grabbing a DVD for her son.
So Emma was not going to rub it in.
Because that would be cruel.
She handed it over to the little brunet boy that was almost jumping with joy that he was able to watch his favorite movie now.
"Thank you, Miss Swan!" He squealed, and Emma almost cringed by how much it sounded like his mother.
"You can call me Emma, kid." The blonde grinned as she petted the boy's hair but then quickly looked up at Regina to see if she had stepped over some sort off boundry the brunette might have set up without Emma's knowledge.
Fortunately, it didn't look like she did.
"Mommy can you put it in?" Henry asked softly as he held the colorful DVD up.
"Of course, sweetheart." Regina smiled as she reached for the DVD. She slowly got to her knees in front of the tv and pushed the disk in. But going down was way easier then getting up.
Dammit, Regina cursed in her mind as she tried to push her weight up by using the coffee table. But to no avail, her arms could not support her pregnant weight.
Emma saw the brunette struggle to get up and she knew Regina would be too stubborn to ask for help. If it were up to the mayor, she would be sitting on the ground the rest off the day. That woman was too proud for her own good.
"Need some help, Madame Mayor?" Emma asked, trying to keep her face neutral, because if Regina caught only even the hint of a grin, she would refuse. And the blonde was more then aware of that fact.
Regina said nothing she only put out her hand for Emma to grab. Emma slowly pulled the brunette up from the ground with very little effort, which surprised Regina.
"Thank you." She said softly.
"It's fine, don't mention it."
Regina couldn't help but feel warmth fill her chest. The way Henry was sitting on the couch, watching his favorite movie, the way Emma had just helped her up just like Peter had always done when she had been pregnant with Henry... it all felt very- it felt like they were a family. Regina couldn't shake the feeling if the blonde's hands on her and it was very disturbing to say the least. Because that blonde had been the woman who had slept with her husband for gods sake and it was wrong to feel something like that for her, right?
"Mommy, can Emma stay so she can watch too? I'm sure she'll like it!" Henry grinned up from on the couch, snapping both adults out of their thoughts.
"I don't know Henry." Regina began.
"Well, like I said, work is quiet and I've never seen Cars before." Emma grinned. "But it's up to you."
Her first instinct was to say - well, actually scream no. But the grin on Henry's face was enough to convince her that one movie wouldn't do that much harm, would it?
"I guess it's fine, but as soon as the movie is finished, you're going to bed little man." Regina said with a small grin towards her son.
The squeal of joy that left her son's mouth when both she and Emma sat down on one side of him, was enough to convince Regina that it was absolutely a good idea.
