Authors note: Sorry, sorry guys, I was really busy seeing that it's Dutch TT right now here in Assen, but I'm officially free from the shackle that is school, so more time to write. I don't know how many chapters this story has left, but I don't think it will be much. Anyway, for now please enjoy this chapter, it has some fluff in it.
...
Emma had no idea why and when she had started to become so anxious about the birth of Regina's baby. But since the beautiful brunette had hit her eight months mark the little but still utterly annoying pull that Emma felt in her stomach had somehow grown to the massive size it was right now.
At first she hadn't told Regina. Emma just began reading books about babies and even going as far as watching a documentary about childbirth and god, right now she was so wishing she hadn't done that. How Regina was able to go through that a second time would forever remain a mystery to Emma Swan.
"Emma, stop it, I can grab my own toast, dear." Regina sighed tiredly as she watched the blonde almost jump up from the table as she waddled - yes, much to Regina's dismay, she was now waddling - into the kitchen.
"But..." Emma started to object but was quickly cut off by Regina's raising hand and so the blonde dropped back down on the stylish chair with a grumble as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"I'm not an invalid, Emma." Regina explained and pushed the bread in the toaster. The morning was quiet since Henry had already been dropped off at school by Emma. Regina had been too exhausting to get out off bed this morning.
"But, your due date is in two weeks, Regina." Emma tried again, not being able to keep her mouth shut when she was worried, and she was really, really worried.
"So?" Regina asked casually in a calm tone as she poured herself a cup off decaf coffee.
"Well, that means you could literally go into labor, right now. I honestly don't get why you're not worried right now?!" Emma started to freak out, and she knew it.
"Emma, dear." Regina said with a soft sigh as she moved to stand next to the blonde and place a comforting hand on her shoulder. "You forget, I've been through this already. I know how everything goes and I know what I can and what I can't do. So stop worrying about me, I know my body better than you know it."
Emma placed the palms of her hands in her eyes and rubbed tiredly. "I know, alright." She sighed and looked up at the gorgeous brunette. "I'm just really... worried, you know?"
"Why, darling?" The brunette asked softly and placed the cup on the table. She lowered herself in the chair next to Emma so she could properly look at the distressed blonde sheriff.
"Well, I've never done this before, and I'm just worried about you, and the baby... I- I realized that I can't... I don't think I could survive loosing either one of you. I, I love you." It was the first time those words were said between them, but Emma knew she couldn't keep them in much longer. Because as strange and quick as it was, she really loved Regina. "I love you, and the baby, and Henry."
Regina felt the salty tears burn in her eyes as she looked at the honesty that reflected in Emma's beautiful green eyes. She meant it, she really, really meant it. And the fact that Emma had not simple said 'I love you' but that she'd also said she loved Henry, and the baby. It warmed Regina's heart and she knew that it wasn't strange that she'd fallen for the blonde this quick. And it wasn't strange that she'd fallen for the woman who used to be her husband's mistress.
To her, she was just Emma. And she loved the blonde, and Emma loved her.
"I love you too."
God, finally admitting it was such a relief.
...
"Mommy!" The small boy jumped with joy as he ran towards his mother who was leaning against her car.
Regina laughed softly and bent down as far as she could to ruffle the boy's messy hair.
"I missded you this mornin'."
"I missed you too, Henry. I'm sorry but mommy was very tired this morning." She said softly and looked down and into big brown eyes. "But you had fun with Emma, right?"
"Yes!" The boy smiled and looked up at the blonde who was standing next to his brunette mother. "We haded fun." He giggled when Emma winked at him.
"Good, now climb in the car, I making your favorite dish tonight." Regina smiled and opened the door so her son could climb in.
"Lasagne?!"
"No." Regina shook her head in mock confusion while she quickly winked at Emma. "I thought your favorite dish was brussel sprouts?"
"No, mommy!" Henry was almost in shock as he poked out his bottom lip. "Those are yuckie!"
"Relax, kid, your mom is just kidding." Emma chuckled and got in the drivers seat.
"Mommy?"
"Yes Henry, of course I know your favorite dish in lasagne."
"Lasagne!" Henry cheered and slapped his small hands together while supporting a toothy grin on his face.
...
"Emma? What are you staring at?" Regina asked and turned around with a raised eyebrow. Her hands were still in the sink, rinsing off the dirty plates they'd used for dinner.
"You."
It was a simple answer but it took Regina's breath away nonetheless. It was said with so much adoration that she could feel her knees getting weak and her palms getting sweaty even though they were wrist deep in lukewarm water.
"You look absolutely gorgeous." Emma grinned and moved closer to the brunette to place both her hands softly on the woman's curvy hips.
"Just wait until you actually see me while I'm not pregnant." Regina smirked and placed a quick kiss on pale, thin lips, ignoring the small cramp in her stomach that she had been feeling ever since dinner.
"Oh, I'm sure." Emma chuckled and grabbed the towl that hung over the brunette's shoulder so she could help dry off the plates. "Do you-" Emma hesitated for a moment, thinking about how she was going to phrase her question. "Do you think... Would you be comfortable- I mean, is it possible for me to-"
"Emma, dear, just ask please." Regina sighed softly and placed a comforting hand on the taller woman's forearm. "There's nothing you can't ask of me, alright?"
"Alright." Emma sighed and mustered up the courage to ask. "Would you like me to be there for you when you- you know, give birth?"
The silence that followed had Emma mentally hitting herself on the head. She should've known, she was in no way related to the baby and maybe Regina didn't even want anyone there, maybe she wanted to do it alone with just a doctor and some nurses. Who's to say Peter was there when Henry was born.
"It's okay if you don't want that, I mean-" Emma started to stammer, trying to repair the damage she thought had been done.
"No, Emma." Regina cut off with a smile. "Of course I want you to be there when she's born, I just wasn't sure you wanted to be there."
"Well, I do." Emma shot her a lopsided smile and pulled the brunette into a hug. "I want to be there when you give birth, I want to be there when our- I mean your little girl is born." She crossed her fingers, hoping the slip up wasn't that obvious.
"No, you were right." Regina smiled and placed her hand on her stomach. "She's ours. You've been the one who helped me through this past trimester, you were there for me and for Henry. This baby is not just mine, she's yours too. DNA doesn't matter Emma."
"I'm so glad you said that." Emma smiled with a breathy laughed and leaned down for a deep kiss that had Regina softly moaning into her mouth.
"She's not kicking anymore." The words ghosted over Regina's lips that quickly turned into a smile.
"No, she isn't."
