Chapter 27:
A Day at the Mall
...
The sun has risen and hung itself in the air over the peaceful Toad Town. Its morning rays gleamed off the red roof of the Mario Brothers. Coming down the stairs, ready to start the day was Luigi as usual. Before he could head towards the kitchen, he heard a knock on the door. With a raised eyebrow, he walked over to the door, wondering who other besides him would be up this early. When he opened it, he was greeted by his guest.
"Hey, sweetie,"
"Wendy? What are you doing here?"
The pink koopa, disguised as Lady Fettuccine, kiss her boyfriend on the cheek as a greeting and entered inside the house.
"I got some news from King Daddy." She said, excitingly. "He says you can come over and have dinner with us on Thursday."
"Really?" Luigi beamed. "That's great."
"I know; that's why I came over so early." She said. "If you're going to meet my family, you're going to need some new clothes. So we just have to get some shopping done."
"I think I can get into that,"
A small growl caught their attention. The koopa-turned-human placed a hand over her stomach and blushed. She was so excited that she had left the castle without eating anything first. Luigi smiled.
"How about we go after breakfast?"
"Good idea,"
The two walked into the kitchen. Wendy sat on the table as she watched Luigi prepare breakfast for the both of them. They engage in some light conversation as they wait for the food to be done. In about 30 minutes, Luigi had two plates of eggs, sausage, and his homemade pancakes freshly made. Wendy smiled and began eating, starting with the pancakes. She hummed, flavoring the pancakes' sweet taste.
"You like it?" Luigi asked her, taking note of her happy face.
She nodded, "What's in them anyways?"
Luigi shrugged causally, "The usual – flour, eggs, milk, butter, and my own personal secret ingredient."
Wendy raised an eyebrow. "Secret ingredient, uh? Care to tell me what it is?"
He thought about it. "Hmm, nope,"
She frowned. "Why not?"
Luigi gave her a smug smile. "I like to keep you guessing,"
Wendy snorted. "Guessing uh?" She smirked. "Either that or you just like it when a girl rums her tongue down your throat."
Luigi match that smirk with his own, "No, just you,"
Wendy hmphed and turn back to her breakfast, hiding the light redness on her cheeks. "Well, one way or another, I'll get that secret out of you."
"Oh? And how are you going to do that?"
Wendy gave him a mischievous gaze. "Oh, I have my ways,"
A slight shiver ran down Luigi's spine, one that wasn't unpleasant. After breakfast, they place their dirty dishes away and exited the house. They walked through Town and headed down to Toad Town Mall.
It was a busy Sunday, so the building was packed with shoppers. Luigi and Wendy entered the mall as causal as ever. Some people paused and whispered among each other; other just gave them a glance and continued with their shopping. Their popularity had started to decrease over the last two weeks… much to Luigi's relief. The two walked around the mall, trying to decide which store they should check out first.
They stopped by a new clothing store called 'Grooves'. They shopped around that store for an hour before coming out with four bags, all of which were paid and carried by Luigi.
Once the shopping was done, they head over to the food court to have lunch. While trying to decide on which food stand they could eat from, an unsuspecting voice called them out.
"Oh…my…Grambi, it's Luigi!"
Both Luigi and Wendy turn around to see a green toadette dress just like the green plumber running towards them. Luigi recall seeing this toad before – it was the same toad that called him an imposter back at Poshley Heights.
'Damn, I was really hoping it was a bad dream.' The green plumber thought.
The green Toadette stopped in front of them and look at him with astonishment. "Oh my grambi, oh my grambi, I can't believe I'm standing next to the Luigi…again!"
She turned away and tried to calm herself down. "Come down, Toadia, don't make yourself look like an idiot like you did last time."
She turned back to him and notices his female companion. She gasped and grew excited again. "Oh my Grambi, it's her…it's actually her. The girlfriend herself… OMG, I just have to tell the others."
Toadia quickly turn and left, desperately looking for her friends. Wendy turn to him with raised eyebrow. "Okay, what was that about?"
Luigi sighs. "That was a fan. I met her before in Poshley Heights. She's supposed to be secretary of the Luigi Fan Club."
"You have a fan club? How came I'm just now hearing about this?"
Luigi shrugged. "Well, you know, being lesser known hero around the kingdom, you don't hear much news about me. Although, it is nice to know that there are some people out there that least know my name."
Toadia return just a few minutes later with her friends following in tow. Her entire group consisted of Toads, Koopas, and plant-like creatures called Bub-ulbs. Upon seeing the green hero, they grew excited and gather around him like most fans do.
"OMG, it's actually him…THE Luigi…
"I can't believe we're actually standing before them right now…"
"And the girlfriend herself…Lady Fettuccine…"
"Wow, she is so much prettier in person…"
"I think I'm dreaming… because this is too good to be true."
Luigi shared a small glance at Wendy before trying to calm the groupie down. Their loud screeching was drawing the attention of other shoppers. Once they did, Luigi asked for their names. The first one to step up was Toadmantha, the leader of the Luigi Fan Club. Next was the secretary, Toadia who apologize for mistaking him for his brother. Next come Toadmas, the website manager, and then the other members – Toadlyn, Toadikka, Toadden, Bub-ulba, Bub-ulbey, Bub-ulbeth, Kyra, Kiswa, and Kimberley.
"So, you all are Luigi fans? I must say, I'm flattered." said Luigi
"Just to let you know, Mr. Luigi, I'm your biggest fan." said Kimberley.
"No, I'm your biggest fan." argued Bub-ulbey.
"Sorry, but you're both wrong," said Toadia. "Because I'm his biggest fan"
"Says the girl who mistaken him for his brother."
"It was an honest mistake, Kyra!"
"Well, it's oblivious that I'm his biggest fan because I was the one who started the fan club."
"Just because you're the leader of the fan club, doesn't mean you're the biggest fan, Toadmantha." argued Bub-ulbeth.
As the fan girls argued, Luigi tried to break them up before security gets called in. Wendy watched by the sidelines in amusement. Luigi turn to her, silently pleading for her help, which she find adorable. Taking petty on him, she decided to help him.
"Alright, everyone settle down. If you don't, Luigi won't agree to have lunch with you all."
That seemed to have gotten their attention. Luigi turn to her with a raise eyebrow. Wendy ignored him and continues on.
"That's right everyone, the Luigi, the hero you all know and love, will have lunch with all of you if you just calm down."
No sooner than when she said that, everyone went silent. Just the thought of having lunch with their favorite green hero was enough for them to keep their excitement contained. Once everyone was settled, Wendy passed the spotlight on to Luigi.
"So," the green plumber started. "How does the Fungal Bongo sounds to everyone?"

After ordering their food and finding a few empty tables to put together, everyone sat in their seats and enjoy their lunch. Luigi and Wendy sat in the middle, surround by the members of the fan club and their many questions.
"Excuse me, Miss Fettuccine?"
Wendy paused from eating turn to the toad who called her. "Yes?"
The toad, Toadmas, fiddled a bit before asking her. "Uhm, I was wondering if I can have an interview with you?"
Wendy blinked. "An interview?"
Toadmas nodded. "You see I have a whole web page dedicated to you and it will really help if I write about you from first-hand."
Wendy smiled. A whole web page dedicated to her; how can she not say yes? "Sure, I can give an interview."
The Toads beamed and took out his notebooks and pen. Wendy stood up straight to address to the toad properly. Once he was ready, Toadmas started asking questions. The first few questions were the usual personal questions such as where she was from. After that, he focused on her relationship with the green plumber.
"So, Lady Fettuccine, you are aware that you just broken the hearts of hundreds of single Luigi fans out there. How does it feel to be the one girl able to win the heart and affections of one of the Mushroom Kingdom's greatest hero?"
"Well, I guess you can say its luck…after all, it's not every day someone like me gets to be with someone like him."
"Were you actually surprise that he had picked you over Princess Daisy?"
Wendy shook her head. "Actually no; she had her chance and she blew it multiple times over. I for one know what I got, and won't be letting him go so easy."
Luigi smiled sheepishly while everyone else giggled. After lunch, the two continue wondering around the mall with the members of the fan clubs as their companions. During that time, Toadmantha asked Wendy if she could like to be an honorary member of the Luigi Fan Club which she happily accepts.
By the end of the day, they parted ways with their new friends and headed back to the meeting tree. They spent about an hour together before deciding to call it a day. They grabbed their four bags (one for Luigi and three for Wendy), shared a kiss good-bye and separated until the next day.
