Chapter 28:
The Event Has Arrive

Friday has arrived and, in Luigi's opinion, it has come by way too quickly. It still felt like four weeks ago when he and Wendy had their 'talk' about him meeting her family, and just yesterday when they went shopping for it.

Bowser had attack twice that week; both of which were foiled by Mario alone. Luigi had to stay home during those two attacks so he could prepare himself for the upcoming dinner date with his girlfriend's family. And let's just say, he was feeling nervous about the entire thing.

Darkness pervaded across the land. The sky was filled by dark thunderous clouds and the strong winds. No light penetrates from the dark clouds, except for the flashes of lightning that appears every so often. The sun was setting but it was hard to tell when you're in the middle of the Darklands.

Surrounded by a large mulch just filled with molten hot lava sat a large, dark, stone castle that was the home of the Koopa King. It had many turrets and towers, some of which had pointed green tops. The central tower had a green dome with pointed spikes around it, designed just like King Koopa's shell. The entrance to the castle was the shaped of the King's head with his mouth wide open where two large double doors stand inside.

Luigi swallowed. He was stand in front of the passageway that leads up to the castle. His fear and uneasiness was preventing him from moving his body onward. He had transformed into a koopa again and was now dressed in the new clothes Wendy picked out for him at the mall. The pink koopa was standing next to him, wearing one of the new dresses he had bought for her. Sensing his fear, she took his hand and held it encouragingly.

"Don't be so scared, Luigi." She said. "You had been to the castle plenty of times. You should be use to it by now."

"It's not the castle I'm afraid of..." Luigi mumbled.

It was true. He wasn't scared of the castle...at least, not entirely. This wasn't the usual fear and uneasiness he would get whenever he and Mario storm the castle in an attempt to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser's clutches. No, this was a new one.

Wendy sighed. She and Luigi had spent that last week preparing for this special event. However, Luigi was still as nervous as he was in the beginning. Of course, she couldn't blame him. Bowser can be very stubborn and intimidating when he wants to be. He doesn't trust others easily, but she was sure Luigi could win him over with his charms.

"Don't worry so much," She said. "I'll by your side every step of the way; just be yourself and you'll be fine."

Luigi nodded and focus back to the castle. Taking a deep breath, he held Wendy's hand firmly in his own and started walking towards the castle. Once Luigi and Wendy made it to the front of the castle door, two guards station there – both of them Koopatrols – nodded in greeting and open the door for them. Luigi thanks them as they walked past the door and enter inside the castle.

The inside of the castle was just as ominous as the outside, with dark stone hallways only lit by the torches that hang from the wall. As they walked, they pass by several minions, most of which were the common Koopas and Goombas. It felt odd for Luigi, to walk among them like he was one of them instead of their enemy. But then again, he was one of them as of now (at least in disguise) and with Wendy, which gives him an immediate pass.

It didn't take them long before they had reached the door to the throne room. They pause in front of the large wooden doors. Wendy took a moment to check Luigi over one last time before they could confront Bowser together.

"I pick the perfect shirt for you to wear. It matches with your eyes."

Luigi blushes slightly. He was wearing a light blue dress shirt with pearl grey pants to match. He still wore his brown shoes but his green cap was left at home, revealing a neatly comb set of dark brown hair.

"Thank you," he says. "That dress is perfect too. It matches with your beauty."

Wendy blushes as well. She was wearing a yellow, strapless dress with a small red jacket to match her necklace. To complete her outfit, she wore a small red belt around her waist, a pair of red shoes and a red bow with white polka dots on top of her head.

"You sure know how to compliment people," she said, dusting away any dirt or dust. "You keep that up and Daddy will like you for sure."

"I hope so."

"Relax, you'll be fine." She places a kiss on her cheek. "Hopefully, Daddy has already calmed down from yesterday's attack."

Luigi swallowed. It was only yesterday since the Koopa King's latest attempt to capture the princess. Luigi can only hope that the large koopa's foul mood hasn't lingered still.

He let out a shaky breath before taking Wendy's hand again and entering the throne room. They walked down the long red carpet on the floor, passing numerous statues and paintings of Bowser that decorated the room until they reach the back wall where the throne was stationed.

Sitting on that throne was the King of Koopas himself with his royal advisors, Kamek and Kammy standing next to him on each side. The Koopa King was sprawled across throne seat; one leg was crossed over the other while his head was resting on the fist of his right hand.

The good news, he wasn't in a bad mood. The bad news, someone was there talking to him – someone Wendy knew very well.

Since this is the first week of school, the next chapter will be up by Thursday/Friday. However, chapter updates will vary as the semester starts to pick up...so, you have been warned.
