Chapter 32:
Breakfast Surprise
...
It was a few minutes passed six and the sun has started to rise over the land. It was hard to tell in the Dark Lands, since barely any sunlight ever shine through. But even so, Luigi still manages to wake up early.
He opened his eyes and blinked a few times, trying to clear the sleepy fog in his head. His blue eyes scan around the room slowly. It was darker than he remember it, bigger too.
'Wait...this isn't my room...
A slight movement draws his attention. His eyes settled on the pink-shell koopa lying next to him. His eyes widen slightly; the fog in his head was lifting as he recalls the events from last night.
He shifted slightly. His small movement caused Wendy to snuggle into him and sighed with content, never once waking up. He smiled; she sure was beautiful in her sleep.
After lying there for about ten minutes, Luigi decide it was time for him to get up. He placed a light kiss on her forehead and carefully crawled out of bed. He didn't want to wake Wendy. He wanted to surprise her with something special.
Once out of bed, he stretches his tired limps and heads towards the bathroom to freshen up. Within ten minutes, he was all washed up and ready to start his day. At first he thought about putting his clothes back on, but then he decided against it. It still felt weird walking around without any clothing on, but as long as everything important remains out of sight, he should just fine.
'Although,' He thought 'it would be nice to at least have my cap on. Too bad I couldn't bring it.'
Even though Bowser would rarely remember his name, he was pretty sure the Koopa King would remember his bright green cap, making it a dead giveaway.
After fixing up his hair, he turned to the mirror to have a look at himself. He had to admit he was a decent looking koopa and a well-built one too. He wasn't as well-developed as Bowser or Roy or Morton, but just enough to notice. With a final nod, Luigi quietly exit the room and started down the halls.
The kitchen was bare when he got there, which was just perfect for him. He washed his hands and grabbed a huge bowl from the cabinet. He opens the refrigerator. It was huge and packed to the top with food. He grabs the milk, butter, and eggs, and placed them all on a nearby table. The pantry was huge as well and just as pack as the refrigerator. Once he found the flour, salt, and baking powder, he placed them on the same table and began working.
...
...
Kamek Koopa was always an early riser. As the king's right hand man, it was his job to get everything started before the king wakes up - and that includes breakfast.
Bowser usually likes to sleep in, unless he has plans to kidnap the princess in the morning. Kamek had made it a custom for him to wake up around eight, that way by the time Bowser and the Koopalings wake up, breakfast will be fresh and ready for them on the table.
As he walked down the halls, he caught a small scent in the air. It grew as he continue getting closer to his destination. It took a moment for him to realize the smell as sausage. And when he got to the dining room, he was surprise to see a whole plate of them set on the table. Not only that, there were eggs, pancakes, and bacon; all fresh and ready to be eaten.
Kamek was astonished. Normally, he'll have yelled at all the minions just to make sure breakfast was on the table before Bowser arrived. Now it was different. Breakfast was on the table and he didn't have to make a peep. Mornings always start off a bit stressful. But today there weren't any of that and he wanted to commitment the minions for their efforts.
He headed over to the kitchen. The lack of noise confused him for a bit. There was usually a lot of noise coming from the kitchen but he heard none of it.
'Perhaps, they had already left.' He thought.
He paused in front of the door. He heard the small sound of dishes, which told him someone was still in there.
'Probably cleaning up,'
He entered though the double door and just as he thought, the kitchen was bare except for one. What surprises him was the fact that it wasn't a minion cooking.
"Kasanova?" he questioned.
Luigi turned away from his cooking at the sound of the door opening. He smiled and greeted his host.
"Oh, good morning, Kamek; how was your night?"
"Uh great, thanks for asking; what are you doing here in the kitchen?"
"I woke up early so I thought I'll make breakfast for everyone."
"I wasn't aware that you could cook?"
Luigi shrugged. "It's just something I like to do. If not for me, then for my family and friends" He grabs the spatula and flipped the omelet he's working on. "Are you hungry? There's plenty on the table."
"I'll get some later, thank you."
Luigi nodded. "Alright, there's some coffee done if you want any."
The old koopa nodded and left to pour a cup himself. "I'll have someone clean up after you once you're done."
Luigi shook his head. "No need, I can do it. Besides, it was my mess so I should clean it up."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure."
Kamek shrugged. "Very well then, I'll see you in a bit."
With a cup of coffee in hand, Kamek left the kitchen to find some minions to serve around the table. Luigi emerged from the kitchen thirty minutes later, with tray hold a cheese omelet and an empty glass. He had already finish cleaning the kitchen and left the dish washer to finish the rest of the dishes. When he got to the dining room area, he saw Ludwig, Iggy, Kammy, and Kalvin were already up and enjoying the breakfast he made.
"Hey there, Kasanova, I heard you were our chief this morning," said Iggy.
Luigi nodded and place the tray on the table. "Yup, I hope you're all enjoying it."
"Well, the food isn't really five stars worthy but it's acceptable for now." said Kalvin.
Luigi rolled his eyes and started placing some food in the tray. "Thank you, Kalvin."
"The food is very admirable, Kasanova." said Kammy. "It's not every day a handsome young man like you can make a delightful breakfast such as this."
Luigi smiled. "Thank you, Kammy."
Just as they were talking, Roy walked in still looking a bit tired from his sleep. He greeted everyone with, "I smell bacon."
He reached for the bacon in the tray only to get it smack away by Luigi. He withdraws his hand and rubbed it.
"Hey," he scowled. "What gives?"
Luigi place his hand on his side. "This tray isn't for you, Roy. It's for Wendy. I made plenty of food for you and everyone else on the table."
Roy pouted annoyingly and left to take a seat on the table. Luigi turn his attention back on his tray and finish placing some more food on it.
"Okay, now all I need is some flowers." He said.
"Allow me, dear," said Kammy.
She took out her wand from her sleeves and waved it around slightly. She pointed at the tray and a small white vase with some roses appeared.
"Thank you, Kammy, they're perfect."
"Anytime, dear; now if you would excuse me, I have some work to do around the castle."
Kammy turn and left the dining room. Luigi grabs his tray and started heading back to Wendy's room.
...
...
It was around nine when Wendy started to wake up. She still felt tired and wanted to sleep in some more. She yarned and stretched. Her left hand was subconsciously searching for her bedmate. When she felt nothing but the bed sheets, she turned her head to see no one next to her.
"Luigi?"
She sat up from bed and look around. The green koopa wasn't in her room. She frowned. She was about to get out of bed when her door opened, revealing the koopa she's been looking for.
"Good morning, Wendy." Luigi greeted. "I made you breakfast."
Wendy blinked. "You did?"
Luigi nodded and place the tray of food on her lap. Wendy smiled. "Oh, Luigi, that's so sweet of you."
"It's nothing; I just wanted you to wake up to a little surprise."
"And what a surprise, thanks."
She lean in and kiss him on the cheek. A small growl caught her ear. Luigi blushed from embarrassment.
"Sorry," he said. "I guess I was so busy feeding everybody else that forgot to feed myself."
Wendy chuckled. "Don't worry, we'll just share it."
Luigi stomach growled in agreement. Wendy laughs. Luigi sat next to her as they enjoy their breakfast together. Luigi was eating a slice of bacon when a thought came to him.
"Hey Wendy, can I ask you something?"
Wendy turned to him and nodded. "Of course,"
"Do you know what Kalvin's issue is with me? All throughout dinner he was constantly shunning me, like he was trying to prove something."
Wendy sighed and places her fork down. "I'm sorry for that Luigi. Kalvin is just being Kalvin. He's a nice guy and all, but... he has some high standards."
"Well, I get the high standards part, but when it comes to you it seems like he really cares."
Wendy shook her head. "No, it's not me he really cares about; just my title... princess. I'm not going to lie... Kalvin's a great koopa with looks to match. But the thing with him is that he's also very self absorbed. He doesn't think anyone else is worthy of his attention except for a princess. Humph, I guess it must have been a big blow for him when Daddy allowed you to date me and not him."
"Is he really that self centered that he'll only date princesses?"
Wendy nodded. "He said it himself...the only koopa that is worth his time will be a princess, nothing less."
Luigi frowned. "That's not right; you should love someone for who they are...not for their status."
"See, you get it and that's why I choose you, Luigi. You look pass the princess disguise and only see the koopa that I really am." Wendy kissed him lightly on the lips. She smiled, "Hmm, you taste like bacon."
Luigi smiled back. "And you taste like sausages."
