Chapter 43:
Beach Party

...

After walking through Blubble Lake and moving south through Dimble Woods, the group of four finally made it to Plack Beach were the party was being held. The sound of music reached their ears long before they made it to the shore. And when they did, they saw Koopas, Goombas, and even Shy Guys crowding the beach and having fun. Station in the middle of beach was a large stand where a DJ was playing music.

Well you can tell

The group walked further along the beach. As they did, Wendy heard someone called her name. The pink koopa turn her head to the direction it come from and saw two familiar Koopas and a Goomba running towards them.

"Hey girls," She greeted her friends.

"Wendy, you got here just in time. The party's just getting started." said Kohana.

Wendy nodded and introduced everyone. "You guys you know my brother Roy,"

"S'up," Roy greeted and they greeted him back.

"And my boyfriend, Kasanova,"

"Hello again, ladies," Luigi address them politely.

The girls flush. "Hey there, Kasanova; it's been a while." said Koren.

"And this is our friend, Kassie," Wendy finished.

"Hello," Kassie waves shyly.

The girls smiled and wave to her too. "Hello, Kassie, glad you can come." said Kohana.

"Thanks; this is some party going on here,"

"I know, isn't it; they got all sort of stuff here. Food, drinks, games…"

"Cute boys for the single ladies out there," Koren grins.

"Plus the music genre of choice is entirely on Disco." said Goombaline.

"Disco," Wendy beamed. "I love Disco."

"And that's just the beginning," Kohana "Rumor has it, that a famous music artist is set to appear later tonight."

"A music artist?" Kassie asked curiously. "Which one?"

"We don't know, it's supposed to be a secret."

"Well, I guess we'll find out by tonight." Luigi said. "First, we find a spot to camp on the beach,"

"Oh, we'll let you do that," Koren "There's a bonfire being made around sunset; how about we all meet up before then."

"Alright, we'll be there,"

After Wendy's friends left, the group pace around the beach, trying to find a space for them to camp. After searching around for 15 minutes, they found a spot could call their own. Once the umbrellas were up and the towels were spread on the sand, they sat down to relax for a bit. They apply sunscreen as they discuss on what beach activity they should start with.

"So, what are we going to do first?" Kassie asked.

"Well, we could play some games," Luigi said.

"Like what?"

"Like go swimming," Wendy suggested.

"Well, whatever you guys want ta do, count me out," Roy grunts as lay back on his towel. "I'm gonna stay here."

"Roy, you're not planning on lying there all day, are you?"

"No, eventually I might head over ta dat bar I saw earlier." He cross his arms under his head and gives them a glance. "But hey, don't let me get in the way o' your fun. Go on ahead, I'll be fine."

"Alright," Wendy stood up with Luigi in tow. "Luigi and I are going to take a dip in the water. You want to come, Kassie?"

Kassie blinked at her offer. She took a glance at Roy who might have closed his eyes. It was hard to tell under his sunglasses. She shook her head.

"No, I think I'll stay here for a little bit longer. You guys, go on ahead."

"Okay, we'll see you in a bit."

Kassie nodded and watch them go as they made their way to the sea water. Once they were gone, she turned back to Roy who glances back at her.

"Why didn't you go wit' them?" he asked her.

She shrugged. "Did really feel like swimming."

Roy rolled his eyes but didn't say anything. He closed his eyes and relaxed on the soft beach sand. Kassie watched him for several minutes before turning her attention on out at sea. She spotted Luigi and Wendy not too away from the shoreline. They look like they were having fun, laughing as they splash each other in the water. She smiled, wishing she had someone she could splash around with.

"Heads up,"

She broke out of her little day dream when a volley ball landed right next to her. It bounces once and landed in her lap where she caught it. She blinked and looks over to her side where a red Koopa Troopa came running towards her.

"Sorry about that," He said. "That's our ball,"

"Oh, that's okay," She said as she tosses the ball to him.

"Thanks," He caught it and jogged it between his hands. "Say, we could use another player for the girls' team, you wanna join us?"

"Uhm," She glances over to Roy who appears to have fallen asleep. She frowns slightly and turned back to the koopa before her.

"Sure, why not,"

"Alright," the koopa smiled and offers to his hand to help her up. "My name is Kyle by the way,"

She took the offer and smile back. "Kassie,"

"Nice to meet you Kassie," They shook hands. "Come on, I'll introduce you to the rest of the team."

"Okay,"

Kassie follows the red koopa to where he and his friends where playing volley ball not too far off. From there, Kassie saw three koopas, two shy guys, and two goombas waiting on the sand court. As Kyle returns with the ball, they notice Kassie approaching with him.

"Hey guys, this is Kassie and she has agreed to be our last player," Kyle introduced.

"Great, now both teams are even out." A green Koopa with short blond hair come up to them and smile in greeting. "Hi, Kassie; my name is Kadie and these are our friends – Kaj, Shyloh, Goombarry, Shyvonna, and Goombaka."

She points to each individual as they wave to her. "You're timing couldn't be better; we were down one player so we had to take turns. But now that you're here, everyone could play at the same time."

"Great; so, what are the teams?"

"Its girls vs. boys." said Shyvonna. "So far, the boys are winning,"

"Oh yeah," Kassie grins. "Well, not for long,"

As a new round of volleyball starts, a certain purple koopa glances over in their general direction. Roy watched the group, or rather Kassie, play for several minutes before sighing and deciding to take a nap for real.

After about an hour of swimming, Luigi and Wendy return to shore hoping to dry off and find some food to eat. When they got to back to their spot, they saw Roy was still there, sitting with his arms across in front of him with Kassie nowhere to be seen.

"Hey Roy," Luigi greeted "Where's Kassie?"

The purple koopa scoffs and turned his head away. "Over there; playin' wit' her new friends"

Both Luigi and Wendy frowned before turning their heads to the side. They spotted Kassie not too far off, playing volley ball with some other koopas and shy guys.

"Okay," said Wendy. "Since she's over there, what are you doing?"

Roy shrugged. "Just... sittin',"

"Why didn't you join her?" Luigi asked.

"Didn't feel like it,"

They both rolled their eyes. "Well, we're going to the food stand to grab something to eat. You want to come?" His sister asked.

"Beats sittin' around here all day," Roy commented as he stood up. "Can't even get a wink o' sleep"

"Why don't you get Kassie and we'll head over to the stands together," Luigi suggested.

Roy frowned and looked back at volley court. The game had stop and now the players were all taking a water break. He sighed and walked over to retrieve her.

Thanks to Kassie, the girls won the game over the boys. She managed to turn things around and get the girls ahead by three points, scoring the winning point in the process. She was sitting in the sand with Kadie when Roy approached behind them. The two were chatting among themselves until Roy cleared his throat to get their attention.

"Hey Kassie," He said. "Da others and I are gonna grab somethin' ta eat, you wanna come?"

"Oh, of course," Kassie smiled.

She stood up and thanks her new friends for letting her play. They all wave good-bye to her as she walked off with Roy to join Luigi and Wendy.

"Did you enjoy your nap, Roy?" Kassie asked the koopa next to her.

Roy mumbled under his breath. No, he didn't enjoy his nap. He lay on the sand for twenty minutes, not a wink of sleep come to him. After a while, he gave up. He stood up from his towel and just watched her play volley ball.

"Somethin' like dat," he answered.

Once they regroup, they head over to the food stand where they were giving out hot dogs, burgers, corn, and other BBQ foods. Everyone got a plateful of food and drinks in their hands before they head back to their spot on the beach. They all sat down on their towels and began eating.

After eating, Roy and Luigi played with a flying dish Luigi bought with him while Wendy and Kassie build a sand castle. As they did so, the two male koopas stroll by checking out the girls as they did so. They notice and lightly flirted with them as they pass by.

After while, Kyle come by again, asking if they would like to join him and his friends in a game of beach soccer. They agreed and walked over to where his group was.

The game was boys against girls again, this time with teams of five. Luigi and Kassie played as the fifth players on each team while Roy and Wendy stood on sideline. Out of everyone, Luigi was the most experience player. However, Kassie was the most competitive player. Her fierce motivation to win was just enough to counteract with Luigi's skills.

After the first two matches, both teams were tied. The third match becomes very aggressive. After losing the volley ball game to the girls, the boys were determined to redeem themselves. But the girls were also determined to not let go of their winning streak so easily. In the end, they manage to keep their victory trace when Kassie kick the winning score.
