Sansa I
It was the day of the King's wedding as her brother could not be there, she was representing House Stark. Both her and her betrothed would be seated at the high table, along with King Renly, the future Queen Margery Tyrell, her father Lord Mace Tyrell and his mother Olenna Tyrell. Also seated there would be Prince Oberyn Martell, Lord Edmure Tully and Renly's nephew Lord Edric Baratheon as he was now known as.
She had met her betrothed for the first time yesterday, and he had been very courteous and respectful. A true gentleman, the type of man she had dreamed of marrying but he was a few years older than her but that worry had soon wavered when he had begun talking to her about his love of horses and wild birds. He had even surprised her with a gift of a beautiful white mare, which she had named Lady after her direwolf.
A knock at her door sounded and she got up from where her handmaiden was brushing her hair. The door slid open as she walked over towards it revealing Ser Wilas behind it.
"My lady," she watched him bow courtesy, while supporting himself with his walking stick he held in his left hand, "You're beauty rivals the maiden herself," he told her smiling, taking her hand and kissing it gently. "That hairnet looks stunning on you,"
"Thank you Ser Wilas, it was a gift from my Aunt" she replied back blushing, quickly stroking the hair out of her eyes and back into the hairnet
"It is the truth and I've told you, just Wilas is fine."
As she was closing the door behind her, Wilas linked his arm around hers and was about to lead her down the hallway when 3 girls bolted past in dirty clothing.
"Arya, What are you doing, you're meant to be at wedding," she snapped just recognising her younger sisters although her hair was short now almost like a boys.
"What's the point sister, father and mother are gone, you can't tell me what to do, Go be a lady if you like, but that is not me," Arya stomped her feet angrily before dashing of again followed by 2 of the sand snakes.
She was about to storm after her, when she felt a hand grab her arm.
"Leave her be, she is obviously still in mourning. She's not doing anyone any harm," Wilas assured her, linking her arm again walking slowly towards the entrance hall.
"She could bring shame to our family's house,"
At that Wilas laughed, " A girl who acts like a boy bring more shame to her great house than say me the Heir to a great house but can barely walk or your brother losing the use of both his legs. Or Robin Arryn still suckling on his mother's breasts at the age of 6, or even the Lannister's now led by a dwarf because his siblings committed incest. People still fear the Lannister and consider them a great house. A Girl in dirt and trousers wielding a sword won't make much difference considering she is betrothed to a Dornish boy.
They were all seated in the Queen's Ballroom for a mighty breakfast, the ceremony would take place that day followed by a lavish feast of 77 courses. The only people who were not there were the future Queen and the other Tyrell Ladies who would break their fast separately.
She sat With Wilas on edge of top table, and she was watching each noble guest present their gift to King Renly. Jalabhar Xho, the exiled Prince from the summer Isles first presented Renly with a bow of golden wood, then riding boots from Lady Tanda Stokeworth, a scorpion brooch from Oberyn Martel, a set of Silver spurs from her Uncle Edmure Tully.
Next was a gift from House Lannister presented by Wilem and Martyn Lannister as Tyrion was too busy sorting out the Westerlands, or that was the official reason at least. Their gift was a set of a Book called the Lives of Four Kings, then Lord Mace Tyrell, tried to outshine everyone with his gift for the king, a seven-sided wedding chalice decorated with great houses: ruby lion, emerald rose, onyx stag, silver trout, blue jade falcon, opal sun, and pearl direwolf. Her betrothed hobbled down next to present King Renly with a jousting saddle. The new Lord of the Iron Isles presented Renly with an ornate handcrafted crossbow complete with a carving of a stag head at the front. The young Lord of the Stormlands and Lord Beric Dondarrion brought the King a new royal carriage, Lord Matthis Rowan presented him with a tourney pavilion and Lord Paxter Redwyne had ordered a model made of King Renly's new flagship King Renly's Pride.
Lastly she got up from her seat and as she did so a knight wearing a sigil showing a black kettle on red, within a black orle accidentally bumped into on her way up, knocking her off balance, but luckily steadied her accidentally brushing her hair.
"Forgive my lady," he begged in a gruff voice looking down at his feet
"Of course it was just an accident Ser."
After the little incident she presented the king with a Cloak made of fur from a cave bear, her brother had found killed on his last trip to the North. He had brought it back and asked Sansa to sow it into a gift for the King.
The long wedding ceremony was finally over, she normally enjoyed these sorts of things but with everything that had happened they now just seemed trivial in nature. They were on what seemed like their 54thnd course but to be honest she had lost count after around the 20th. She laughed can clapped after each entertainment but her mind was elsewhere, even Wilas noticed she was distracted.
There was bard singing the Rains of Castermere for what felt like the 5thth time that day, once again at the request of Olenna Tyrell, after he had finished, all sorts of entertainment took the circle, from pyromancers, to sword swallowers, Jugglers, pipers and trained dogs.
"Are you okay," WIlas whispered to her gently, gently caressing her shoulder.
"When do you think we can leave, I thought I was up to this, but I can't face being happy right now. All this celebration just seems wrong."
"I can ask the King, if we could be excused if you would like, so I can escort you back to your room,"
"You sure, I don't want to make a scene," she protested quietly but at the same time hoping Wilas would ask.
Before she could say anything anymore, Wilas stood up.
"My Grace, please forgive me for interrupting these spectacular festivities in honour of your wedding day, but my betrothed is not feeling the best, please may I be excused to escort Lady Sansa back to her room."
She was blushing now, she couldn't stand everyone's eyes on her.
The king stood up quickly, " Of course, Ser Wilas, we all know what Sansa has been through, but first I wish to make a toast, Cup bearer fill my chalice," he demanded in a joyous move, holding out his present from Mace Tyrell for the boy standing behind him to fill. A Knight, the same one who bumped into her earlier, pushed the boy forward.
As the boy fill the King's chalice, he spoke, "I want to thank your House Lady Sansa, you house has suffered more had more wrong done it than any other House in recent years. Without your father's wise and cautious council and leadership, I doubt we would be having this wedding today. It is my one great regret that did didn't get to see the peace we have created," he held up his chalice. "To Eddard Stark and his House," he shouted, followed by everyone else before taking a drink.
That was when all hell broke loose, as Renly stood there in front of the top table looking out over the rest of the thief, he began coughing each one more violently than the last. She saw Barristan and Blackfish rushing to his aid, Edmure and Mace shouting. The other guest began screaming and running to get outof the Great hall, trampling over each toher and causing a stampede, allt eh while the King kept coughing and choking eventually falling to the ground. She stared horridfied as his face began to change colour but just than someone put a hand over her mouth and dragged her off her seat forcefully and she tried to grab Wilas's attention but everyone was too busy concentrating on the king. The last thing she saw before blindfodl was put over her head was Renly lying on the ground.
Author's Note.
Sorry this last chapter took a while, I've been busy I do apologise. I hope this chapter was worth the wait. This will be the last one in this book. If people want me to write a sequel let me know. I have ideas but I will only do it if there is demand for it.
