Chapter VII
I Don't Want to Go
He stared at the white wall. Nico could almost see the sheen where the walls were once washed. His chest felt tight, his hands hurt from gripping the wheels on the chair he was sitting in. Nico couldn't move it an inch, but it was almost comforting.
The nurse told Nico that he could leave today. That he is leaving today. That he has to go back to reality now.
Is it wrong that he doesn't want to?
Is it wrong that he just wants to stay in this white room forever?
Is it wrong that he doesn't want to get better?
Is it wrong that he just wants to curl up and die?
Is it wrong that he just wants to be alone?
It seems everyone else thinks so. They think that Nico should go and go to school, get a job, get a life, do everything a normal person would do. Why does Nico have to be a normal person? Why can't he just be Nico? Why does Nico have to be something he's not?
He didn't have to be anything else then Nico with Percy. Why did that change?
"Nico." Hades said from Nico's door. "It's time to go, son." Hades stepped towards Nico and wheeled him out of the room and down the bleach smelling hallways.
Nico stared straight ahead into the seemingly endless whiteness. Nico's eyebrows drew together. Why was that so? Why did he have to be nothing then himself with Percy?
Why was it like that in the room?
"You will be staying with us in a house in New York for a while, Nico." Hades said but it was dull to Nico. "Social Services want to check on you regularly. You'll be going to therapy as well." Nico's face turned blank once more.
"I don't want too." Nico said in a toneless voice.
Nico heard Hades take in a breath, but he didn't say anything.
Nico can live with that.
His knuckles gripped the arm rests of his chair with the miniscule amount of energy he possessed when they reached a more populated area of the hospital. Nico didn't need this. Nico just needed the nurse to bring him a glass of water. That's it.
They stopped moving. Nico could tell. He didn't even have to open his eyes though. Nico knew from the smell.
"Are you ready, Nico?" Percy's deep voice whispered into his ear.
Nico clenched his eyes tighter. Why did it feel like this with him? "I…"
He broke Nico. "Everything's going to be fine, Nico, everything."
He's not even asking why. "How do you know that?"
Nico could hear the smile. "Because I know you." So simple, so sweet.
"That doesn't mean anything." Warm lips were pressed to Nico's cheek. It felt like warmth spared throughout Nico's whole body.
What in the world was that? "Yes it does."
Why did that feel amazing? "How?"
"Because I love you."
Because he loves you.
