Chapter 55:
Support from an Old Love

...

"Well, young lady, what do you have to say for yourself?"

Wendy looked up from her gaze on the ground to stare blankly at her father. For the last hour or so, Bowser has been yelling at her. Since then, she has been released from her cage; however, she was still in her human form. When she didn't reply to his question, Bowser growled in frustration and placed his head in his hand.

"I just don't get you Wendy," He said. "I gave you everything you could have asked for and more, and this is how you repay me?" He dropped his hand and placed it on his hip. "All I asked from you is to pick one guy, one single guy; someone worthy to join our clan. But out of all guys you have dated, all the guys you could have met in world, you choose to be with a plumber."

Wendy frowned and turned her gaze back on the floor. She felt bad for causing this much trouble, really she did. But her father must understand, the guys she met and dated cared nothing for her. She only wanted to be happy in her life and Luigi was willing to do that.

Bowser sighed. "I guess I should be thankful it's wasn't that blasted Mario you fell for. But then again, this doesn't make the situation better." He looked back at Wendy who still had her head down. He crossed his arms. "Just answer me this...why did you have to pick him, out of all people?"

A small memory appeared in Wendy's mind. 'Why did ya have ta pick him?' That was the same question Roy asked her over a month ago. She could give him the same response she gave Roy, but something was preventing her from doing so. That answer didn't feel right with her anymore. It wasn't just because Luigi was a great guy or the fact that he acknowledge her for who she is and not what she is. Those are just a few of the many things on why she had chosen him. But her main reason for why she had picked him was because she...

"What?" Bowser asked, not quite hearing her mumbled answer.

Wendy cast her head up. Tears were forming in her blue eyes. But these weren't tears of sadness. No, these were tears of joy for Wendy had finally come to a conclusion.

"I love him." She said, loud enough for everyone to hear. "I love Luigi"

Wendy smiled. She had confessed. After 14 weeks of dating, she could finally say that she too love Luigi as much as he love her. The only thing that could make this any better was if the man she had confessed her love to was actually here with her. Unfortunately, her moment of happiness did not pass over to her father.

"You love him?" Bowser hisses; his voice full of venom "Wendy, you cannot be in love with that plumber."

"Why not?" Wendy quickly grew defensive.

"Why?" Bowser snorted in disbelief. "Because he's your enemy, that's why!"

"So? You're in love with Peach and technically she's our enemy as well."

"That's...different."

"No, it isn't." Wendy frowned. "The only difference between the two is that yours is one-sided; ours actually goes both way. And besides, the only reason you're into the princess in the first place is because she reminds you of Clawd-"

"Enough!"

Wendy flinched at the loud roar but say no more as she cast her head down. Bowser ran a hand through his hair as he tried to calm himself from his sudden burst of anger. That name was to never be mentioned inside this castle, ever. Where Wendy had learned of her name he wasn't so sure. But he did have a suspicion on who she could have learn it from.

'That old hag really has to learn how to keep her mouth shut.' He thought bitterly.

It took some time for his anger to die down again. No one said a word during that time. The whole room was filled with tense silence. Once Bowser did cool down to a tolerable level, he turned back on Wendy with a firm gaze.

"Well, since you're having so much trouble trying to find a mate for yourself, I'll just have to pick one for you." He crossed his arms. "I don't even have to waste time thinking about it. Kalvin is the best choice. After all, he did bring Green 'Stache to me."

"What?" Wendy shot her head up at the mention of that Koopa's name. "But...Kalvin care for nothing but himself. I can never love him."

Bowser shrugged. "Doesn't matter as long as he's loyal to me"

"But...But..." Wendy quickly sorted through her head for idea, anything that will keep her away from that black koopa.

"But what?" Bowser grunted.

"But...Kalvin isn't good enough." She argued. "Both he and his men couldn't stop Luigi, even when they had number on their side. Pompey... even say so herself."

Bowser raised an eyebrow when he heard the noticeable venom in her voice when she said that name. Regardless, she did have a point. He did recall that PomPom, who he's assuming is Pompey, mention she had to take out the plumber herself after Kalvin and his men failed to do so. It was embarrassing, at least in his point of view, for a female to succeed in what should have been a 'man's job'.

"Well then, we'll just have to do something about that, won't we?" Bowser said. He look pass Wendy to address Kamek who had stood in the sideline since he came back from locking up the prisoners.

"Kamek, get the plumber back in here; it's about time I finally dealt with this issue."

Kamek nodded. "Yes, your Majesty,"

Wendy watched Kamek head for the door before turn back to Bowser with a worried expression. "What are you going to do?"

Bowser smirked. "You'll see soon enough."

...

Luigi was worried...

Not for himself, but for Wendy.

When they thought about revealing their relationship to everyone, they always planned on doing it together. Of course, they expected anger and frustration from their friends and family, but they knew they'll be able to handle it as long as they stood by each other's side.

Unfortunately, their plan to stick together will never get to see light of day. At this moment, he was stuck in Bowser's dungeon probably with a serious head injury he could care less about right now while Wendy was going against her father all by herself. That alone has him worried.

"Luigi, are you even listening to me?"

Luigi blinked out of his thoughts, slightly confused. He turned his head to the cell Mario was standing in. The older plumber looked upset, indicating he was not pleased with him at all, at least more so than he already was. Luigi let out a deep, tired sigh,

"Sorry, Mario,"

Mario groans in annoyance. For the last hour or so, they were discussing on Luigi's not-so-secret-anymore relationship with him doing the talking and his brother doing the listening – at least, he thought he was listening.

"You were thinking about her, weren't you?" He said, forcing himself to keep his voice down. He was really tempted to yell at his brother right now. But he restrained himself from doing so he doesn't make Luigi's head injury any worse than it already is.

Luigi didn't say anything, giving Mario the answer he didn't want. The red hero growled and turned away from his brother. Out of pure frustration, he punched the stone wall behind him.

"Seriously, Luigi, out of all the girls you could have dated, all the girls you could have met, all the girls in the whole entire world, you chose to go out with Wendy of all people. As in Wendy Koopa..." His voice was rising. He could no longer hold back his anger. "You do know she's Bowser's daughter, right? Remember, our enemy! I mean for Grambi sake, Luigi, what were you thinking?!"

Luigi flinched, both physically and mentally, and held his head in his hand. He felt bad about lying to his brother, really he does. But his yelling was causing the throbbing headache to becoming worse. Fortunately for him, Kassie notice his pain–stricken expression and quickly came to his defense.

"Lay off him, Mario; don't you think Luigi's hurt enough?"

Mario sighed, calming himself down. "I'm not trying to hurt him, Kastoadra; I'm just...wanted to get my point across."

"By yelling at him until his head explodes."

"Look, all I'm saying is that he should have never dated Wendy in the first place. I mean if he hadn't, then you wouldn't be stuck in this dungeon with us."

Kassie puffed. "I appreciate your concern and all, but I chose to get involve by my own free will. I was never force into it by anyone and could have gotten out any time I wanted." She crossed his arms. "Besides that, I don't see a problem with them dating. I been around them long enough to see Luigi really cares about her and Wendy feels the same way about him; isn't that what matters the most?"

"She's right."

Mario blinked and turn to the cell next to his, surprise and disbelief written on his face. Daisy hasn't spoken at all for the pass hour. And now that she has, she was agreeing with Kassie.

"Daisy, you can't be serious," Mario said.

Daisy turned her head to the red hero. "I am serious, Mario. I mean, think about it; Luigi rarely lies to you, ever. The fact that he went through extreme length just to hide Wendy's true identity just to keep you and the rest of us happy is enough to show how much he loves her.

"Not only that, Wendy did the same thing towards her family. I know, as a princess that puts her at a bigger risk than anybody else, because she can literally lose everything… from her family to her reputation to her royal title. She knew what would happen if they were to hook up but she took the risk anyways. That alone is enough to convince me that she truly does care about Luigi."

The wise words of the Sarasaland princess left the red hero of the Mushroom Kingdom speechless. And he wasn't the only. Kassie and even Luigi were amazed by her words, silently thanking her for her support in the matter.

Mario frowned. "You are the last person I suspect to favor this."

She shrugged. "What can I say? She knows a good guy when she sees one. I for one never realized it until it was too late."

The red man sighed and turned his gaze to the ground as he tries to force himself to think over her words. Daisy glanced over to the cell across from hers. Although it was too dark to see much, she can sense that the green plumber was smiling at her in thanks.

"You know guys, we can talk about this all we want but how about we do that when we're all safely back at home?" suggested Kassie.

"You're right," Mario sighed.

Now wasn't the best time for them to argue over such matters; Luigi was severely injured and need to be seen by a doctor. Also they had to rescue Princess Peach which won't be easy with that new device Bowser has in his possession.

Suddenly, the sound of the dungeon door opening filled the air. Mario and the others quickly turned their attention to the direction of the door as Kamek and two Koopatrol guards entered the dungeon. Everyone grew tense at their presence. They pause in front of them and turned to the cell on the left, the one Luigi and Kassie were sharing. They unlocked the cell door and entered. Luigi slowly got back on his feet, using the wall to balance his wobbly form as Kamek and his guards stood in front of him.

"The king wants you, plumber,"

Ending Note for Today:

My theory for this story...Clawdia died not too long after lying Junior as an egg. She always wanted a big family so to profill her wish, Bowser adopted the Koopalings into his family. Now her name is basically taboo around the castle. No one is allowed to mention her, especially in front of Bowser. The Koopalings know very little to nothing about her. Only Wendy has some idea of who she is due mainly to the fact that Kammy told her.

I also think she is somehow connected to Bowser's obsession over Princess Peach. However, I will explain more on that in the next chapter.
