Chapter 22: Snap out of it!
Compared to her family, Ginger was a late bloomer. She took her first life when she was around twenty-two years old. She killed her husband. Pitz was tired of secretly bringing her to meet the family doctor for unexplained bruises and broken bones. Finally he just gave her a knife and told her to save herself. He knew she could do it because it was in her blood and if that didn't work to do it for her baby boy. Did she want her son to grow up to become just like his monster of a father?
Of course not. What mother would? She took the knife and hide it until that night. She got her husband drunk and stoned so he was docile and pliable. She patiently waited until he was past out and crept into their dark bedroom. She carefully bonded his arms and legs tightly to the bed posts. This wasn't meant to be a sexual game, she was terrified that he would wake up, get away and it would be curtains for her.
Once he was tied tightly she sat on his lap. She proceeded to stab him over and over again in the face, torso and genitals. Everywhere he used to hurt her. She lost count as the knife hit home again and again. All she could hear was gurgling sounds that he made as his life force drained out of him. The years of pain she endured at the hands of this bastard flooded out and the attack became a blur. She didn't come to her senses until the knife's tip violently snapped off as it hit her his sacrum.
Then she was able to stop, look around and get up out of the bloody marital bed. Ginger walked over to the kitchen as if she were in a trance. She picked up another knife and walked back to their bedroom and continued the attack.
Hours passed till she was confident that her husband was dead and he couldn't possibly get up and hurt her again. Shaking she rolled his body and the murder weapons up in the bedding and rolled the bedding in a rug. She dragged the heavy bundle into her trunk and went to start the clean up process.
Calmly she tidy up her bedroom and took a shower. It was as if nothing happened. She changed into some clothes that were suitable for a walk on the beach and looked at the clock it read, 4:08 am.
She quietly woke up the baby and whispered, "come on hunny let's take a ride."
With the baby all bundled up in his car seat Ginger drove to the edge of Lake Michigan.
She disposed of the body by throwing it off the pier like the trash he was in life.
Then as if nothing had happened Ginger and Malachy took a walk along the pier and explored the beach...
Ginger sat motionless on the couch. Her cellphone was ringing over and over again but she continued to space out. Sid walked over to check on her with Marshall not far behind him. "She alright?" Marshall asked.
"Would you be?" Sid answered. "Are any of us?"
Marshall step closer to Ginger and rubbed her shoulder, "come on red queen. You've gotta snap out of it we need you."
