Chapter 57:
Prison Break

"So plumber, what do you say? Are you in or out?"
The throne room was filled with tension after Bowser announced his surprising proposal towards the green plumber. Over on the sideline, Junior and the Koopalings stood in disbelief, surprise on the fact that their father would actually allow one of their greatest enemies to actually join their rank. The only one that was hopeful on the offer was Wendy, who saw it as a chance to avoid the worse.
"Although, you're still gonna have to pay for that little stunt you pulled, but at least you won't have an early meeting with Queen Jaydes." Bowser said. "Plus you can go back to seeing Wendy which is what you wanted, right?" Kalvin scoffed but kept his mouth shut after a quick glare from Bowser. "So... why don't we skip all the drama get to the ending already. You join my side and you won't get a game over. Don't..." He puffed. "Well, let's just say, I won't be as generous."
Luigi cast his head down, shading his eyes with the shadow of his hat. Everyone was waiting for his answer, but most of them were hoping he would decline. Among that group were Kalvin and Pompey for their plan will be ruin if he accepts. After several long minutes, Luigi finally lift his head up.
"I...appreciate the offer Bowser," He said softly. "But I can never betray the Mushroom Kingdom or Mario for that matter."
He glances over to Wendy who smiled at his response. Although she was hoping he'll accept Bowser's offer, she knew deep down he could never betray his family and friends. Bowser, however, could care less about the others and simply shrugged at the plumber's answer.
"I figure you'll say that." He said. "Guess I'll have to resort to plan B."
"What's plan B?" Luigi mumbled.
Bowser smirked. "Plan B, is a fight between you and Kalvin."
Plan B, as Bowser called it, was a fighting match between Luigi (who was transformed back to normal) and Sir Kalvin... As an award for his services, Bowser allowed Kalvin to be the one to finally destroy the green menace once and for all. Kalvin happily agreed to it and soon the two were standing against each other in a fighting stance. Peach was brought in as a witness to his demise. Her cage was place right next to Bowser's throne as the Koopa King sat casually on his seat of power.
"Now before we start, I have to tell ya the rules." Bowser said. "Rule number one...there are no rules; anything goes and I do mean anything. Rule number two...the last one standing is declared the winner."
Bowser looks between the two opponents. Kalvin seem eager, maybe a little too eager. Luigi, on the other hand, looked nervous and unbalance on his feet. Bowser smirked; this should be a quick and easy.
"Begin!"
Kalvin dash forward, talons ready and swing at the green plumber. Luigi quickly stumbled back to dodge Kalvin's first three attacks. He then tripped and fell on the ground. He quickly had to roll out of the way to avoid another attack.
"You can't dodge forever, plumber," Kalvin said.
He was right. Luigi couldn't keep dodging like these. Thanks to his injuries, his movements were slow and sloppy. It was only a matter of time before the black koopa can land a hit on him and then he'll really be in trouble. To Kalvin, this match was an opportunity to redeem himself after losing the first time and to finally have Wendy as his own. To Luigi, it was a matter between life and death since he was sure no one was going to stop Kalvin from downright killing him.
As soon as he got back on his feet, Kalvin came at him again. Luigi used his Super Jump to avoid the koopa and create some distances between them. He fell on his knees as he landed back on the ground. Using this distraction, Kalvin quickly close the distance and swing at the hero with his talons.
Luigi turn around and gasped. He tried to evade it, only to get a slash on his left arm. He hiss and recoil back, holding his now bleeding arm in pain. Kalvin smirked, pleased to get the first hit in.
"Hurts, doesn't it?" He said. "Well, there's more where that came from,"
The match continues. For the most part, the fight seemed one-sided with Kalvin winning. The black koopa was landing more and more hits on Luigi while the green hero was trying fruitlessly to avoid them all, growing weaker as the time passes.
From the 'safely' of her cage, Princess Peach watches the fight with great worry. She could see Luigi wasn't doing so well and was most likely going to lose or worse. And she wasn't the only one worried for him. Wendy herself wanted nothing more than to help her beloved mate, but Kamek wouldn't let her interfere.
"Humph, that plumber's dead meat now," Pompey commented.
Wendy growled, completely fed up with the black-haired Pom Pom. "That's it, Pompey; you're dead meat now!"
Out of frustration and anger, she tackled Pompey to the ground once more. Kamek gasped and quickly stepped in to try to separate them. Their fight didn't go unnoticed to the others.
"Cat fight!" yelled Lemmy, turning everyone's attention on the females.
"I got ten coins on Wendy!" Iggy bet.
"Ah man, now I don't know which fight to watch." complained Morton.
While everyone was busy with the two fights in front of them, they were unaware that someone was sneaking out of the throne room. As soon as this individual was outside, he glances through the door creak to make sure no one had notice him gone. Nope, they were still preoccupied with the two fights before them.
"Kick her ass Wendy," he said before closing the door completely and disappearing into the darkness of the castle hall.

Mario cursed after failing to break the metal chain around his ankle. His brother was in trouble, he could sense it. However, he was having a lot trouble trying to free himself and others. If he had some power-ups it would help, but everything was taken from him when Bowser captured them.
"We have to help Luigi," Kassie said. She too was trying to free herself from her cell but she wasn't having as much good luck as Mario.
"Well, we're not going to help him if we can't free ourselves from this cell." said Daisy. "The way I see, we're going to need someone from the outside to bring us the key."
"You think we could trick one of the guards to do that for us?" Mario asked.
"Maybe,"
Before the three of them could come up with a plan, they heard some commotion from outside. Soon it stopped and the door started to open. At first, they grew tense thinking it was more guards ready to pick them up. However, they soon turn surprise when they saw a mystery man entering instead.
"So," the man said. "You guys ready ta get out o' dis dungeon or do you like it so much dat ya decided ta stay?"
"Who are you?" Daisy asked.
The man smirked. "I'm da guy whose here ta save all your sorry hides." He pulls out a key, the same key to the dungeon cells. "So, which one o' ya should I free first?"
His unseen eyes landed on the toad on the left. He smiled slightly. "How about you, little lady?"
Kassie tilts her head at the man's question as he walks over to free her from the cell. Once he was close enough to her, she managed to make out something familiar. She gasped in realization and smiled. Once he opened the cell and removed the ankle brace, she jumped onto him to give him a big hug.
"Are you okay?" He asked her quietly.
"I'm fine," she said "thanks for saving us."
The man nodded. Once Mario and Daisy were freed, the foursome exit the dungeon and into the hall where two koopatrols lay unconscious on the ground. The quickly leave the area before any more guards can appear and made their way to the castle.
"Your brother's in trouble," The man said to Mario. "At this moment, both he and da princess are in da throne room. I suggest you get movin' or else da Mario Brothers are over."
"Right," Mario said. He wasn't exactly sure if he could trust this guy or not. But if he was willing to help save his brother then he couldn't be all bad.
"Here, I manage to get a few of your things back. It isn't much but it's all I could do."
Mario took the items and examined them. What he got was a fire flower, ice flower, and a mushroom. He frowned; it wasn't much at all but it was a lot better than nothing.
"Thanks for your help," he said.
"Don't thank me; I've done all I could do. The rest is up to you." The man turned to leave but not before glancing towards Kassie's direction "Be safe, I'll catch ya'll later."
Mario and friends did nothing as they watch the man disappeared into the darkness of the castle.

I'm going to spend the day catching up on Naruto Shippuden. That always helps me feel better.
