Chapter 60:
Coming Clean

...

Mario, Wendy, and Roy stood in stun silence after hearing the surprising news about Kastoadra's pregnancy. After about a minute or so, Mario became the first to recover.

"Mamma Mia," He said. "Kastoadra is pregnant?"

Doctor Truffles nodded. "Correct; according to her files we got from this morning, Kastoadra is close to 3 weeks pregnant."

The red hero sighed and ran a gloved hand through his hair, wondering why the young toadette didn't inform them sooner. Then again, with all the excitement that happened today, the indigo toad probably didn't have any time to tell them and might have temporary forgot. Either way…

"Toadsworth is not going to be happy about this," He mumbled.

Wendy recovered soon after Mario and turn to her disguised brother with worry. Roy hadn't move or say anything since the doctor announce the news just a few minutes ago. He was awfully still, almost like a statue.

"Sir, are you alright?" Doctor Truffles asked; concern with the man's silence as well.

Her question got no answer. Roy was staring out into space. His constant silence even got Mario's attention.

"Burly, are you okay? He asked.

No reply. Instead, the large man's body started to sway. Before anyone could react, he collapses onto the floor.

"Roy!" Wendy shouted as she quickly kneeled down to his aim.

"I need another stretcher here, stat!" Doctor Truffles yelled out in urgently as she knee down to check on Roy's vital signs.

The toad nurse nodded and quickly called for help at the front desk. Mario had been worried for the man at first, but his worried soon turn into suspicion when he heard Wendy called out his real name.

"Roy?" He said, looking at Wendy with narrowed eyes.

Wendy looked up from her brother to match the plumber's glare with her own. "What? You really think I'm the only one who can change my form? News flash, plumber, we did something similar to this the first time we met."

She tore her gaze away from him to focus back on her brother. After checking his pulse, Doctor Truffles turned to her for some answers.

"Do you have any idea on why he may have fainted?" she asked.

Wendy hesitated slightly. She glanced over at Mario who was still looking at her with distrust. She sighed, knowing full well he was not going to like what she was about to say.

"He's...the father."

...

Luigi was still awake when the nurses left him in his room. He had bandages wrapped around his head and on his left arm. His cuts and bruises were all treated and he was even some medicine for any pain. Fortunately for him, none of his injuries were too serious and all he needed was some rest. He was adjusting his bedside pillow when he heard a knock on his door.

"Come in," The door opened and a pink blur quickly cover the distance between them.

"Luigi!" Wendy beamed as she embraced the green plumber.

"Wendy!" Luigi said, slightly surprise yet glad to see her here. And she wasn't the only one to enter. Someone else was here as well. "Mario,"

The red plumber smiled softly. "How are you feeling, Bro?"

"I'm fine," Luigi replies, as Wendy release him from her hold. "Just feeling sore and tired,"

"Well, the doctor said you're going to be fine. You just have to stay here and rest for a few weeks."

"Great." Luigi grunts. He wasn't really fond of staying in the hospital for too long.

"Don't worry, sweetie," Wendy said. "With me around, you'll be back on your feet in no time."

"Thanks Orabelle, I appreciate it." Luigi chuckled. "So, what happened to Peach and Daisy?" Wendy grunt at the mention of their names and Luigi mentally cursed himself.

"They went home," Mario answered. "But they'll come by in the morning to visit you."

Luigi nodded. He turned to Wendy who was looking down on the bed. Luigi took her hand and held it in his own tenderly. Wendy glances up at him. He smiled and she softly smiled back.

"Ahem," Mario couched, interrupting the two's moment. "Luigi, would you mind if we talk?" He glances at Wendy. "Alone, please,"

Wendy glared as Luigi just frowned. He knew what his brother wanted to talk about just by looking at his eyes. He sighed.

"Alright; Wendy, could you give us a minute?"

The pink koopa frowned. She didn't want to leave him. But after he gave her a silent plead, she sighed and gave in.

"Fine, I guess I can see how Kassie's doing."

Luigi smiled. "Thank you, Orabelle. I love you,"

She beamed. "I love you too, Luigi-kins,"

The heart monitor that was place next to the bed skipped a beat which didn't go unnoticed to Mario and Wendy. The pink koopa giggled and started heading for the door. As she pass by, she send a quick glare in Mario's direction; one that clearly said 'You hurt him in any way, you're going to need a doctor'. Mario didn't say anything and turn to Luigi with a raised eyebrow.

"Sorry," He apologized. "She was there when I got hit so she's a bit protective over me right now."

Mario nodded slowly. He grabbed a chair and placed it next to Luigi's bedside. Luigi remained silent as he watches his brother sat down in the chair.

"Okay," Mario sighed. "Care to tell me how this really gotten started?"

Luigi heave a sigh as well. It was time to come clean. Both he and Mario were tired from today's adventure, but he knew he had to explain himself to his brother before they could continue on with their lives.

"The story I told you before was true; only Wendy's appearance was different."

Mario nodded. "Then how did Kastoadra get involved in this?"

"She walked in on us. She was surprise at first but she willingly agreed to keep it a secret."

"And Roy?"

Luigi blinked in surprise, wondering when and how his brother found out that Roy. He didn't ask and answer his question.

"He walked in on us a few minutes before Kassie. He was really mad at first but Wendy managed to talk him down. He's been okay with it ever since."

"Did you know that he and Kassie are together?"

"Yes. Two weeks after they found out, we invite them to come along with us to a party. They hook up after that."

"Does anyone else know about the two of you?"

Luigi thought about it. "The professor does. Again, he walked in on us. And Spettro if you want to count him,"

Mario sighed. Luigi can tell his brother was starting to get frustrated again.

"Is there by any chance you thought about telling me about your little secret?"

He frowned. "Of course, I did. You were the first person out of everyone I planned on telling."

Mario shook his head and turned his gaze to the ground. Luigi patiently waited for him to continue as the two brothers sat in silence. After a few minutes, Mario spoke again softly.

"I guess what I really want to know is...why did it have to be her?"

Luigi raised an eyebrow. Mario glanced up at him again. "I mean, Daisy wanted to get back together and promised that things will be different. But you still turn her down in favor of Wendy. Why?"

Luigi cast his head down. He had a ton of reasons why but none of them would be good enough for his brother. Mario waited for his response, growing a bit anxious. After a few minutes, Luigi decided to just tell him the truth.

"Because I love her,"

Mario scorned. "That's not a good enough reason,"

"It is to me."

"Luigi," The red man sigh, running a hand through his brown hair. "...I don't think you're seeing the big picture here. She's Bowser's daughter."

"Adoptive daughter," Luigi corrected. "Bowser took her in when she was a child. She wasn't born evil if that's what you're trying to apply."

"Even so, she was still raised by him. How do you know she wasn't using you just to get what she wanted?"

"She wasn't,"

"How do you know?"

"I know because I trust her."

"Really, Luigi? Are you seriously this naïve?" Mario said frustrated on how unreasonable his brother was being. "Wendy's one of the most deceiving Koopas we know; she'll do anything to get what she wants. Heck, she even got me to encourage her to have sex with you; that's just how good of a lair she is."

Of course, Luigi knew that; he knows everything he needs to about Wendy... both the good and bad. But he didn't say anything. And despite that, Mario continues on.

"Did you know that Kastoadra's pregnant?" He argued. "That she is force to carry Roy's child?"

No, no he did not know that. Although he knew Kastoadra wasn't force into doing anything he still wondered how she could have gotten pregnant. They were just too different to produce any off springs.

"Did you know she could've gotten hurt thanks to your little secret? Do you have any idea how Toadsworth's going to react when he hears about this? I mean, the guy treats her as his own daughter. You could only imagine how heartbroken he will be when he see her pregnant and in harm's way all because you wanted to keep this...thing you have with Wendy."

Luigi bow in head down in shame. When he started this, the only one who was at risk of getting hurt was him. He didn't mean to drag Kastoadra into this, or anyone for the matter.

Seeing the guiltily look on his face, Mario softened. He didn't want to make his brother feel bad, but he had to get his point across. This bond between him and Wendy was only going to bring more trouble than it's worth. That's why they have to end it.

"Can you see it bro?" He said gently. "It's not worth it...not if she's going to end up hurting you and the people you care about most."

Luigi frowned deeply. Why couldn't his brother understand? Wendy will never do anything to hurt him on purpose. Sure, she wasn't perfect. But either was he, or anyone for that matter.

"You're wrong about her, Mario." He said softly. "You don't know her like I do; she's not as bad as you think."

He wished Mario could see his side of things. But his older brother was quite stubborn with what he believes in. He doesn't trust anyone from the Koopa Klan, despite any reasoning Luigi may tell him. Mario shook his head, too tired to argue any further.

"I'm sorry Luigi, but I cannot approve of your relationship."

Luigi's heart dropped when he heard his brother said that. He knew from the beginning his brother wouldn't approve. Yet, it still hurts to hear him said it.

He cast his gaze down to his bed. Mario stood up from his chair and started heading for the door. He paused by the door frame and look back at his sadden younger brother.

"I'll see you in the morning,"

Luigi nodded slightly. Mario sighed and exit out of the room, leaving his distress brother alone.
