Chapter 61:
It's Your Choice

...

Wendy had found Kassie's room just down the hall from Luigi's. She knocked first and once she got an answer, she opened the door and entered. She smiled upon seeing her young toad friend.

"Hey Kassie, glad to see you're going better,"

Kassie smiled "Thanks Wendy. But I thought you'll be over at Luigi's room. After all, his injuries are more serious than mine."

Wendy walked in further. "Well, I was with him until his brother wanted to talk to him. I plan on going back after checking on you."

"You think he'll be okay with you two dating?"

"Oh, he better." Wendy warns. "If not, well... I'll just have to make him be okay with it." She sat down in a chair next to her bed. "But enough about me for the moment, let's talk about you."

Kassie tilt her head slightly. "Okay, what do you want to talk about?"

Wendy gave her a small smile. "You don't have to hide it anymore, Kassie. The doctor took us everything."

"Everything?" Kassie questioned in confusion. Her eyes widen in realization. "You mean..." She trailed on. Wendy nodded which made her groaned, "Ohh, please tell me Roy wasn't there."

"Sorry, but he was the one to ask."

"Oh mushrooms," Kassie moaned and cover her face with her hands. "I didn't want him to find out like this." She turned to Wendy with a frown. "How did he take the news?"

Wendy shrugged. "As well as fainting can go."

She sighed and fell back on the bed with a soft 'thump'. Wendy sat by her side as she stared up at the white ceiling. There was a short silence between them before Kassie spoke again.

"I don't know how this could have happen."

Wendy frowned. "Don't be so hard on yourself. This could have happened to anyone. Regardless of how careful or protective you are, there's still a chance one of those little fellas will make their way through."

"Yeah, but still..." She said gently, her eyes still glue to the ceiling. "Roy and I are two different species; we shouldn't be able to have a baby at all. But despite all odds, I somehow managed to conceive one." She gazes over to Wendy with a deep frown. "That's what I don't get...how can a koopa impregnate a toad?"

Wendy sighed; that was a good question. Scientifically speaking, Kassie should have ever gotten pregnant. Their genes were just not compatible for it to happen.

"Sorry Kassie, but I don't know that either."

From the look on her face, Wendy can tell that wasn't the response she wanted to hear. It was scary, she assumes, to find out you were pregnant with no idea on what to do. Sure she could get help from Roy but basically his job was already done; he doesn't need to be there leaving Kassie to raise the baby all on her own...if she decides to keep it, of course.

Suddenly, the door flew opened and hit the wall hard. Kassie and Wendy jump out of surprise at the loud bang. They quickly turned their heads to see a purple koopa standing fully conscious by the door frame.

"R-Roy!" Kassie sat up from her bed, looking at him with worry.

Roy didn't say anything but enter further inside the room. Kassie grew fearful as the Koopa silently walked towards her. When he got to her bedside, he fell on his knees and looked upon her with a deep frown.

"Kassie," He said softly. "Is it true? Are you really...pregnant?"

Even though the doctor had told him, Roy refused to believe it until he had heard it from Kassie herself. Kassie bit her upper her lip and nods to his question.

"Yes, Roy; I really am pregnant."

A heavy sigh escape the Koopa's mouth as he remove his glasses to rub his sore eyes. There was a tense silence within the room. Roy expression was unreadable while Kassie looked scared, confused, and worried all at the same time.

"Wendy," Roy said quietly, almost that she couldn't hear. "Can you give us some time alone?"

Feeling like a third wheel, Wendy silently nodded. She stood up and headed for the door, giving the privacy the two needed for the time being. Once the door close, a heavy silence filled the room. Roy turned his gaze onto the ground, not quite sure what to say or think about for the moment. Kassie sat anxiously on her bed, waiting for Roy to say something...anything. When he didn't, she quickly grew impatient and broke the silence herself.

"Roy, I'm sorry," She blurted out. Roy glance up to her as she spoke. "I don't know why or how this could have happened but it was my fault. I should have been more careful and... and..."

"Kassie, you don't have ta take all da blame." He said. "It took both o' us ta make dis happen, not jus' you."

Kassie bit her lip again and cast her head down, fidgeting with her fingers. "Roy, I just want you to know... there is no pressure on you. You don't have to do this."

Roy raised an eyebrow in confusion. "What are you talkin' about?"

"I mean...you don't have to be there." She said, glancing up to him slightly. "If you don't want to get involve then I completely understand."

Roy looked at her with disbelief. Was she actually giving him permission to bail out of this situation? Was she actually willing to take all the responsible onto herself? Roy shook his head, refusing to believe that.

"Kassie, can't believe you're sayin' dat. Believe it or not, I am gonna get involve and I am gonna be in dis kid's life, whether you want me or not."

Kassie shot her head up in surprise. "You...You are?"

"O' course," He smiled. "You see, my dad wasn't really what you called father o' da year. Da truth is... he abandoned us around da time Wendy was still an egg, leaving Mom to take care of the both of us. She did her best but the stress of it all got to her and she pass away from an illness. If I were to leave now, then I'll be no better than he was when he left. I made a promise to myself dat I'll there fo' all my kids and be a way better father than my old man ever was."

Kassie smiled, happy tears forming in her eyes. She had been so caught up in her thoughts and fears that she just assumed Roy will leave her to raise the child alone. But he quickly dispersed those fears when he wanted to get involve, despite what will happen to them.

"Well, if you ask me, you're already a better father just by agreeing to stay."

"Thanks. But, what about you?"

Kassie blinked. "What about me?"

"Well, it's your body; both o' us didn't plan fo' dis nor are we ready to be parents." He said. "I guess what I'm tryin' to say is... do you even want to have dis baby? Because we don't have to if you don't want to. It's your choice, after all."

'It's my choice,' Kassie thought, as she cast her head down. What do she wants to do? Well, giving it away was out of the option since Roy says he wants to be there. So the only choices left are abortion or raising it. Did she even want to have a baby? Will she be up to the challenge of raising a kid?

"I'm...not really sure." She finally confessed.

"You don't have to give the answer right away." Roy said. "Think about it fo' a few days and we'll get back to it."

"I guess you're right," Kassie sighed, suddenly feeling really tired.

"It's getting' late, you should get some sleep."

Kassie didn't protest as she settled back into bed. She was tired, both physically and emotionally, so she fell asleep pretty quickly. Roy dimmed the lights and returned by her side.

He stood there for several minutes, walking her sleep as he went through his thoughts. He was drawn out of them when Kassie mumbled something under her breath. Roy smiled and pulled the cover over her to keep her warm. He sat down in the chair Wendy was sitting in prior and let out a tired sigh himself. He cross his arms and closes his eyes. Sleep came to him soon enough.

Ending Note for Today:

Just to make this all clear...Roy IS the father. This is base off the poll I posted up weeks ago on whether Luigi and Wendy's kids should human, koopas, or hybrids. Hybrids won by a landslide.

Now, I did a bit of research. While the idea of having hybrid kids does sound cool and all, I decided to be scientific about it. And when it come to science, two different species are not capable enough to have off springs (unless this was Adventure Time or anything else based heavy on magic, but it's not...so, yeah).

So...How did Kastoadra get pregnant? Well readers, there is a reasonable (however, completely made up) explanation for this, just keep on reading.
