Chapter 65:
The Ultimate Birthday Surprise

...

"Are we there yet?"

"No,"

"...How about now?"

"Not yet,"

"Now?"

"Don't worry, we're almost there."

Wendy whined as she walked blindfolded towards the direction Luigi was leaning her. She was excited because she was being lead to a surprise Luigi had set up just for her not too long after being release from the hospital.

These last few weeks have been tough for them, having to deal with everyone's criticism about their relationship. Surprisingly enough, there was a fairly large population out there that was actually supporting them, such as the members of the Luigi fan club. Some even think this relationship of theirs might help put an end to Bowser's countless attacks and bring peace between the two kingdoms.

However, it's not easy to change people's opinion on things. And the truth was they'll probably never get the approval of everybody. But with help from Mario, Peach, and Daisy, most of everyone's view on the situation was slowly but steady changing.

"Okay, we're here,"

Wendy unshielded her eyes and gasp at the scene before her. They were at one of her favorite places, the beach with a romantic picnic fit for two. Place over the picnic blanket was food, candle light, and a bottle of champagne.

"Happy Birthday, Wendy" The pink koopa smiled and turned to hug him with all her might.

"Oh Luigi," She leaned forward and plant a passionate kiss on his lips. "It's perfect, thank you,"

"I'm glad you like it," Luigi said.

He was quite pleased with it himself. He has planned this little picnic on the beach present for over two weeks now. After all the drama they've been dealing with back home, it was nice to get away from it all and spend some peaceful time with each other.

It wasn't easy walking around town with everyone throwing negative looks in their direction. Of course, they weren't the only ones getting this sort of treatment; Roy and Kastoadra were dealing with the same thing. In a way, things were sort of worse for them since they were expecting a baby.

But despite all the pressure on them, the two were mostly focus on their little new comer and the symptoms it was giving Kassie. The pregnant toad had recently started having mood swings and strange cravings. As her pregnancy continues, she was becoming a force not to be reckoned with; even Roy was walking on thin ice.

In fact, just about three weeks ago, a rumor had spread around town about the cause of the baby. This rumor stated that Roy had raped Kassie which wasn't true in the slightest. At that time Kassie have yet to hear of such a rumor and no one planned on telling her any time soon.

But one day while taking a walk around town, a news crew approached her to confirm if it was true. Needless to say, she blew up all over their faces. Upon hearing the incident, Princess Peach who believed the babe was a blessing not a curse, grew greatly disappointed at the insensitivity of the news network and banned all news stories regarding Kastoadra and her pregnancy until the baby was born.

Despite what everyone else think, Kassie and Roy were as close as they could get, as well as Luigi and Wendy. In fact, having these two odd couples around has inspired others to get together with someone they least expected. For instance, a certain flower princess had taken a chance on an extremely skinny man in purple who had a crush on her for the longest time. In addition, a certain pink toad with yellow earrings had admitted her feelings to a certain blue toad with thick glasses.

Anyways, back to our main couple...

Wendy was greatly enjoying her birthday present. It was just like the dream she had all those months ago; she was at a beach, sitting on a picnic blanket with her mate sitting across from her. He may not be the koopa she had originally thought he'll be, but he was definitely handsome and the man of her dreams.

Right now, they were both having a wonderful time simply enjoying the others presences. Luigi place his food aside and rubbed his knees in a nervous matter. Wendy noticed his anxiousness and paused from her own meal.

"Is something wrong?" she asked him.

He smiled. "No, everything's just fine. I just have a question to ask you."

"Okay, what is it?"

Luigi stood up and offer his hand. Wendy placed her food aside and took his hand as he helped her stand. Once she was up, Luigi took her other hand and held them both affectionately.

"Wendy...I love you."

She smiled. "I love you too."

"I know," He continues. "You risked everything you had just to be with me. And because of me, you lose everything."

"Luigi... it's alright; don't worry about it." She said softly.

Since the day that everything was revealed, the green hero has blamed himself for her misfortune. But as upsetting as it was, Wendy actually preferred it that way. She had chosen him for a reason. She may have lost her status, but she gains a great guy. And if given the chance to start over, she'll just choose him again.

Luigi shook his head. "No, it's not alright. In my eyes, you're still a princess. And just like any other princess, you deserve to have your dreams come true."

He let go of her hands and reached into his pocket. "I promise to give you only the best in life and that's exactly what I'm going to do."

Wendy frowned confusingly. "Luigi, what are you..."

She stopped mid-sentence when Luigi pulled out a small velvet box. Her heart literally skipped a beat when he proceeded to drop down on one knee. Luigi took a deep breath to calm his nerves and glance up to capture Wendy's eyes with his.

"Wendy Ora Koopa, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" The box opened, revealing a Princess-Cut Blue Aquamarine and Diamond engagement ring.

"Will you marry me?"

Wendy was in a state of shock, she didn't know what to do or what to say. When she didn't reply right away, Luigi became worried of her response. He didn't know that moment was so intense for the pink kooopa that there was only one thing she could think of doing...

She tackled him.

Luigi let out a surprise gasp as fell on his back with a slight grunt. Before he could even think of a question, Wendy took his lips into a deep and passionate kiss. Luigi's eyes widen from her sudden action. He mentally smile and started kissing her back.

For as long as they can, they stayed like that. It was until they felt their lungs about to burst that they parted with a huge gasp. They both were left panting heavy, trying to replace the air lose. Once he had recovered slightly, Luigi smiled.

"So..." He said. "I take it...that's a yes?"

She smirked. "Heck yeah, that's a yes!"

He chuckled softly. He pulled himself up from the ground to a sited position. Wendy shifted herself so that she could sit on his lap. She grew excited when he held the box in front of her.

The ring was beautiful and custom-made. It was three stones with a carat diamond in the center and two aquamarine gemstones on the either side. The band was made of 14 carat white gold lined with an additional pave-set round of miniature white diamonds.

Luigi took the ring out from its place in the box. Wendy held out her hand as he gently slides it through her ring finger. Once on, she held it up and gasped in astonishment.

The ring fitted just right. The diamond shined bright within the sunlight. Plus, the aquamarine matched flawlessly with her eye color. And let's not forget the cut of the three stones – Princess.

Wendy felt tears starting to build up. This ring...it was a symbol of love. The love between her and her soon-to-be forever mate. She turned back to say mate and gave him the biggest hug she could mustard.

"It's perfect, Luigi," She cried softly. "Thank you,"

"Anything for you, Orabelle," Luigi replied.

They shared a long kiss. It was soft, tender, passionate, sweet, and most importantly loving. It was the kind of kiss you'll think it'll never end but deep down you knew it had to.

"By the way," Luigi spoke after recollecting his breath. "The secret ingredient is cinnamon."

"I know," she replies. "I figured it out about two month ago."

"You did?" He frowned. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because..." She smirked. "I like it when I ran my tongue down your throat."

Luigi smirked as well. "Oh, well in that case, how about we have another go around?"

Wendy laughs. "Now, you're talking,"

I do have another Luigi/Wendy story I'm working on that will be darker, mysterious, and just about or longer than this one.

So far, I'm calling it 'Change'. A quick summary - Luigi is betrayed by everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom including Mario who has became King, when they willingly gave him up to Bowser in exchange for peace. Now he must learn how to adopt and change himself or else he'll live the rest of his life in misery.

This story is still a work in process so it won't be up until some time next year. However, I will post up the first chapter later just to give you guys a sneak peck on how it's going to be like.
