Ch 3

"I have a theory," said Bulla as she looked out upon the barbeque Chichi had thrown as a celebration for her son Goten and his fiancée Valese getting engaged.

"Oh no Bulla," said her boyfriend Uub, "don't even get me started on your theories."

"What's he talking about Bulla?" asked Trunks.

"I think Chichi's pressuring Goten into getting married."

"I find that hard to believe Bulla. I know Goten, he wouldn't let her do that," said Trunks.

"Maybe he wants to make his mom happy," said Bulla. "I mean ever since they became a couple, Chichi has been talking to Goten about when he planned to settle down. Maybe he got tired of his mom nagging him all the time."

"What, were you spying on them while this was going on?" asked Trunks.

"Yeah," she smiled. "How did you know?"

"Lucky guess," said Trunks. "Anyway I don't think Goten would marry someone he doesn't love."

"I just don't know. Some thing is suspicious about the whole thing, like he's not meant to be with her," said Bulla.

"You're just saying that because you hate Valese," said Uub.

"Bulla, why do you hate her? She seems nice to me," said Trunks.

"Well sure you don't know. You're never around her long enough. She's mean, and she's so fake. She puts on this nice, sweet show on for everyone else but she's mean to people she's threatened by," said Bulla. "Also, she's slept with a lot of men. She told me so when we were arguing one time."

"She's coming this way Bulla so try to be nice," said Trunks as he smiled at the couple.

"Hey Trunks, Uub, and Bulla, thank you for coming to our engagement party," said Valese as she smiled.

'I guess Bulla was right. Even her greeting sounded fake,' thought Trunks.

"Well we're really happy for you two," said Uub as Bulla frowned.

"So, when's the big day?" asked Trunks.

"Two months from now," said Goten.

"Wow, that soon?" asked Trunks.

"Well when you're so in love like we are, why wait," said Valese as she gave her fiancée a quick peck on the lips.

Trunks could feel his heart drop. 'There's nothing I can do. I just have to step aside and let my best friend be happy even if it's not with me. Although my father would never understand my willingness to let him go, he would want me to fight but why would I fight for someone who doesn't want me in the first place?'

Bulla had grimaced at the display of affection but when she turned to her brother, she saw the lost look in his eyes. "Trunks," she said as she shook his arm, "are you ok?"

"Yeah man, you look kind of pale," said Uub.

When Goten came up to Trunks, he felt his head. "You are kind of warm Trunks."

"I'm fine," said Trunk as he turned from Goten and walked away.

It had been a hard celebration for Trunks to get through, but he wanted to support his best friend even though it was making him physically sick. Looking out of the view of Mt. Paouz, he saw nothing but grass, trees, flowers, and mountains. He missed this kind of setting. The city was his home, but there was something about nature that calmed him when the city was too hectic.

"Trunks, sweetie are you all right?"

"I'm fine mother."

"Trunks, you look terrible," said Bulma.

"Gee thanks."

"What happened over there with Goten and Valese?"

"I'm hap—

"Do you take your mother for a fool Trunks?" asked Vegeta.

"No, it's—

"Then don't lie to her."

"Maybe I shouldn't lie to you Trunks. I've known about your feelings for Goten for a while now," said Bulma. "I even knew before you did," she smiled.

"How's that even possible?" asked Trunks, skeptically.

"I use to video tape you and Goten all the time when you were little, but I think it was from the time Goten was born."

"It's true, but I can't and won't do anything about it. He loves Valese, and I don't want to be responsible for breaking them up because of my selfish needs."

"I understand Trunks, but he needs to know," said Bulma.

"No, he doesn't," said Trunks.

"So you continue to be unhappy? What else is new?" said Vegeta. "I guess it's your choice son, but you have to live with those consequences," he said as he walked away.

"Trunks Briefs!" yelled a woman in excitement as Trunks looked to his mother.

"That's Valese's mother, Ginger Rex."

"Mrs. Rex, it's a pleasure to meet you," said Trunks.

"Oh, the pleasure is all mine Mr. Briefs," she said as she took his hand. "So, how do you know my daughter?"

"My best friend is the groom," he said.

"That's a relief, I was afraid the boy had no friends."

Trunks held his tongue. "Well he's been my friend for years and I'm lucky to know him."

"And I'm lucky to know you. I'm a big fan of your work," she said flirtatiously.

"Mom, will you quit it, you're embarrassing the guy," said a familiar voice to Trunks.

"Devin," said Trunks.

"Hey Trunks," he smirked, "you know Valese is my sister right?"

"What a small world," Trunks said sarcastically.

"You know my father's company is going to take yours down into the dirt."

"I don't think so. Capsule Corporation has always been on top," said Trunks, "and will continue to be on top when you're long gone," Trunks smirked.

"Why you—

"Now, now son clam down," said Ginger. "You know he's right," she smiled.
