AN: Here's another little bonus chapter - one more to come! These will of course mainly be 'fluff' because if they had key plot points they would have been in the main story! The next chapter and then the 'sequel epilogue' or 'epilogue 2.0' will have a little more new content, with plot and important stuff in them :) Thanks to everyone who continues to read and review :)
Bonus Chapter 2
Dauntless, Saturday December 7th (The end of the first week of the mission in Switzerland.)
Marlene and Christina were walking along the corridor, headed for the entrance door of the pool. Anyone looking at them from behind would be curious as to their funny, somewhat staggering gaits, each looking like they were weighed down by something, which they were.
They were both carrying two 3 gallon bottle of liquid soap, in preparation for 'Operation Cheer Up Four'.
"Andy!" Christina exclaimed, spotting the pool maintenance guy as they entered the big room. "You have to help us!"
"Have you been punished with washing the compound's dishes for a year?" Andy asked in amusement.
"Nope, we've been charged with helping to cheer up Four, by order of Zeke and Harrison," Marlene said with a winsome smile. "Christina said that you'd be able to help us turn the pool into an enormous bubble bath?"
"Well, I can do that," Andy said slowly. "But it will leave a rather large clean up job to deal with afterwards."
"Zeke said its okay, if you can manage it, he wants it to go ahead," Christina reiterated. "So we need to get started now, before Four gets up here!"
"Alright," Andy agreed, still a little apprehensive. It was hard to refuse two such beautiful agents though, and he did kind of want to create an Olympic pool sized bubble bath, at least once in his life.
The three of them worked quickly, Christina and Marlene doing exactly as was asked of them by Andy.
"Okay, you two had better go and change, and when you get back up here with your friends, the pool will be ready, just as you wanted it," Andy told them. "See you in about 15 minutes."
Marlene sent Zeke a quick message letting him know everything was pretty much going to plan, but that he needed to stall Four while they changed into their swimmers.
Marlene and Christina scurried back to their respective rooms and each threw on a black bikini. Christina's a triangle style one with gold embellishments, Marlene's a bandeau style one with a bow at the centre of her bust. The each threw a robe over the top of their swimwear and scurried out to meet their friends at the elevators on level 19.
Together, with Lynn, Will, Shauna, Zeke, Four and Lauren, they made their way a couple of floors down to the pool, chattering and laughing, happy to be together enjoying the weekend.
Only Four was quiet, still rather wrapped up in his own feelings and problems. He dawdled a little behind his friends as they neared the door to the pool, feeling a little reluctant to visit it with their friends, without Tris. It was a special place for them, and when he went alone, just to swim or think, it was still their place, he could feel near to her. But it seemed almost sacrilegious to go and have fun their without her.
The squeals of laughter and exclamations coming from inside the pool caught Four's attention and he quickly followed his friends in, curious to find out what was causing the commotion.
He blinked a couple of times, not quite believing the sight in front of his eyes.
"Did one of you spike my drink?" Four asked curiously.
"No, there are really bubbles, I see them too," Lauren said with a giggle. "And I'm sure I'm not high, I think. Sweet lord in heaven that is a lot of bubbles."
Zeke was grinning from ear to ear, and giving the thumbs up to Christina and Marlene.
"I'm taking it that you planned this?" Four asked in confused amusement.
"Well, sort of," Zeke said sheepishly. "I just wanted to cheer you up, the bubbles were Christina's plan. I only wish they were my idea."
"Well, I'm glad that you'll be explaining this to Harrison, and not me!" Four said, a hint of glee in his tone, the first indication of enjoyment he had shown towards anything in a while.
"Whatever, it'll be fine," Zeke said airily. "All I know is that I'm getting in that pool, and I'm taking you with me!"
'You' was not Four, but Shauna, who Zeke grabbed and picked up in his arms, throwing them both into the bubble bath of a pool together, Shauna shrieking in surprise.
Four shook his head in wry amusement. The pool, his sacred place with Tris, was desecrated by a mass of bubbles, enjoyed by a pack of boisterous and mischievous agents.
"Four! Get in here," Zeke hollered.
Four walked over to the edge of the pool and gave Zeke an amused glare, and while doing so Lauren came up behind Four and gave him sudden, strong push, and sent him plunging into the pool, disappearing from sight, immersed in the enormous quantity of bubbles.
Four came up spluttering, but unable to keep a grin off his face.
A week or so later
"I can't tell you where we were, but we did the most wonderful sightseeing today," Tris said happily. "We got a boat from near where we're based out of, and spent the day on a cruise on the lake near to where we are, seeing sights, eating amazing food. The only thing that could have made it better was if you were there."
And if I wasn't wearing thousands of dollars worth of designer clothing, Tris mentally added wryly.
"You're not on a mission, you're on vacation," Four teased.
"Oh no, this is a torturous mission, trust me," Tris said, her voice strained to make a point. "Today was the most fun I've had the whole time, and it even had its drawbacks."
"Well, I look forward to getting all of the details, when you're back," Four said, trying to keep his tone neutral.
"Anything to tell me about what you've been up to? Any more shenanigans?" Tris asked hopefully.
"No, but Marlene did threaten to do to me what she did to Peter, you know, with the makeup prank," Four said with chagrin.
"Why did she threaten that?" Tris asked, her curiosity piqued.
"Ah, I may have been a little grumpy again, lack of sleep, you know," Four mumbled.
"Why weren't you sleeping?" Tris asked in concern.
"Oh you know, nightmares, nothing important," Four said vaguely.
"Oh, Four," Tris said in tender sympathy.
"It's nothing, they're stupid," Four said dismissively.
"They're not," Tris said quietly. "I have them too, you know. Maybe, what if I tell you mine, and you tell me yours? That way maybe they won't seem too real or have so much power over us."
"My dreams are always the same. One way or another, I lose you, and it's always awful, and violent, and heart breaking," Four said hoarsely. "I wake up terrified, and so scared of losing you."
"Oh Four," Tris cried brokenly, her heart aching for him. "I'm not going to die, I'm coming back to you. I'd never forgive myself if anything happened to me and I left you alone."
"I know you'd never intentionally wind up in a situation that gets you killed, but death is a risk in this job, we all know that," Four said quietly. "I just need to keep telling myself that, I guess. What do you keep having nightmares about?"
"Your father, doing awful things to you, and I can't save you," Tris admitted in a low tone, not mentioning the Evelyn element, or that she could save him, but that she had to tell him she loved him first, before she could.
"Well, that bastard's in prison, so at least your dream couldn't be a reality," Four pointed out in a falsely cheerful voice.
"But my dream was a reality, and that's what kills me," Tris admitted miserably. "You had no one to defend you, and it breaks my heart."
"There's nothing you could have done about it then, and the support you've given me these last few months is almost enough to make me forget those times," Four told her tenderly.
"Almost," Tris said sadly.
"I don't think anything can ever really make you forget something like that," Four said slowly. "But every day I spend with you makes those days seem further and further away. There is less darkness in my life, and more light, when I'm with you."
Tris gulped, and then said, her voice choked, "I wish I was with you right now."
"I wish you were too," Four replied seriously.
Tris sniffed and wiped away a few tears that had unknowingly slid down her cheeks.
"Well, I think that's enough serious talk for now," she said lightly.
"What do you want to talk about then?" Four asked, a gentle smile on his face.
"Well, I did have a question from before," Tris admitted, her eyes brightening, a smile spreading across her face. "Did Marlene really threaten to put outlandish makeup on you?"
Four gave a deep chuckle, which only caused Tris to smile more broadly.
"She did, and I think she meant it too," he told her, a grin on his face, though he had been rather pissed off with Marlene at the time.
"That would've been a scream," Tris said with a chuckle. "Can you tell me again what exactly she did to Peter?"
"Well, let me put it this way, he wouldn't have looked out of place in a Vegas drag show," Four said, grinning fiendishly.
"You've been to a Vegas drag show?" Tris asked innocently, a roguish look on her face.
"If I was with you, you'd be in for a serious tickling session right now," Four threatened playfully. "Anyway, he had eyeliner, fake eyelashes, blush, lipstick, and glittery bits – the works. It was a beautiful sight."
"I'm seriously getting concerned about you, Vegas drag shows, finding jackasses in makeup beautiful," Tris said, feigning worry and sorrow. "I think I'd better come home, you must be sick."
"Ha ha, very funny, smartass," Four retorted. "I only meant that Marlene had done a beautiful job, and that drag makeup suited that little prick."
"I bet," Tris said with a giggle. "I hope you cheered up after Mar threatened you, I don't think drag would look at all good on you, attractive though you are. You're more of a rugged, chiselled looking guy. There's nothing feminine about you, makeup would just look ridiculous."
"Please, I could make anything look hot," Four boasted, pleased by Tris's compliments, but also inclined to bask in the glory of them, show off and act overconfidently as a result.
"Well, I wouldn't bet the house on that, but you are very hot," Tris purred wickedly. "Your eyes, that jaw line, those abs, oh, and those biceps."
"Suddenly I feel a little too hot," Four said uncomfortably, tugging at the collar of his shirt, heat starting to flow through his veins. "I think I need to take a cold shower."
Tris gave a giggle and said, "Well, do what you need to do. But seriously, those things are great about you, but that's not why I'm with you, or why I care about you. It's your personality that does it for me, that way you protect me, your passion for our work, how incredibly smart you are, and what a gifted marksman and fighter. Even if you looked like Mike Myers or the Grinch, I would still want to be with you."
"Even if I was furry and green?" Four asked playfully.
"Four! Is that really all you got from that?" Tris asked, a little annoyed.
"Sorry," he said contritely. "I really appreciate you saying those things, even if you didn't need to. I know you're not with me for my devilish good looks."
Tris shook her head in amusement. "Go take your shower, I'll talk to you later, you big idiot. I miss you."
"I miss you too," Four said seriously. "Come back to me."
"As soon as I can," Tris promised earnestly. "I miss you too."
