We do not own Ghost Hunt, just the plot of the story!

Naru came back through the door to tell her that he'd managed to talk the doctor into letting her go early.

"Thank you."

"The nurse will be in here shortly to take the heart monitor off." Naru informed. Mai nodded. She decided to keep quiet for now about her thoughts on the sleeping arrangements once they get back.

"Alright."

"And you promise to rest when we get back?" Naru asked.

Mai let a small frown appear on her face. "Yes..." Naru nodded with satisfaction at her answer. "But why should I if you don't even rest when you get out the hospital?" She grumbled. She didn't know why he was making such a big deal out of this.

"Actually I do rest, you just don't see it as I usually stay in my office. Lin usually takes all my work off me and makes me sit and read instead...uh-oh...LIN, I forgot to call him!"

"Why would you need to call Lin...?" Mai asked confused and a little worriedly.

"Well obviously, you are me right now and you're in the hospital." He pointed out.

"Yeah I know but how and why does he know I'm in the hospital?!"

"Takigawa." Was the only word he needed to explain the situation.

Mai closed her eyes in disbelief. "And you told him I was in the hospital too?!"

Naru sighed. "I told him I was here; he came to investigate as he was worried I had been hurt thinking that I am you and discovered it was you as me that had been admitted. He then passed this on to Lin who also came in here with all guns blazing." He explained.

She opened her eyes back open in shock. "They both came here? While I was sleeping? Why didn't I wake up?!"

Naru shrugged. "Your guess is as good as mine regarding that."

Mai huffed. "I guess I'll call Lin when we're on the way home."

"That's a good idea." He said.

After a while of Mai's impatience and fidgeting and Naru telling her to sit still, the nurse finally came in.

"Well Mr Shibuya, it seems you get to go home." She said as she approached.

"Seems so." Mai smirked. Last night her and the nurse got along—even though Mai thought she was a little annoying—but this morning since the bottle incident they seemed to have gotten on each other's bad side. But the nurse just seemed to love Naru.

"I hope you don't intend to be ungrateful to your poor girlfriend for offering to take care of you." The nurse warned.

Mai's eye twitched once again that day. "I'll be sure to keep that in mind." She responded sarcastically.

"I'm quite sure he won't." Naru interjected.

The nurse went over to Naru and pinched his cheek. "Such a good girlfriend! You keep him straight, don't you?" She laughed. Naru laughed nervously along with her. The nurse turned back to Mai and glared at her before taking all the heart monitor stuff off of her.

"There you are Mr Shibuya; you are free to get dressed now."

"Thank you." Mai said standing up from her bed. A slight wave of dizziness hit her again as she stood.

The nurse lifted an eyebrow. "Are you sure you want to go home Mr Shibuya?"

"Yes, perfectly sure." Mai replied.

The nurse looked at Naru. "Is he always this stubborn?"

Naru paused unsure of what to say. Surprisingly Mai answered the question.

"Yes, he is." She said.

This caused both of the nurse's eyebrows to shoot up. "What?"

"You heard." Mai retorted.

"Forgive him; he can be rather moody sometimes." Naru cut in. Naru glared at Mai. Mai glared back defiantly.

The nurse looked between the two. "Right...Well...Come on Sweetie, let's let your boyfriend change his clothes!" She addressed Naru.

Naru sighed. "I'll be right outside the door." He informed Mai.

She shrugged. "Whatever, I guess it doesn't really matter if you stay or not."

Naru made to go and sit back down on his bed when the nurse grabbed his arm. "Now, now, it wouldn't do to have a young lady like yourself see a young man naked." She chided.

Mai smirked. "It's not like she hasn't seen me that way before." She muttered, acting like she was talking to herself but knew the nurse had heard. The nurse looked shocked.

Naru glared at Mai from behind the nurse. "He's just joking." He said sweetly.

"No he's not." Mai said firmly which caused Naru to glare harder with steely eyes. Yes it was true, Mai had seen him naked and Mai vice-versa but that was in different circumstances than Mai was leading the nurse to.

"Stop talking about yourself in the third person and just get dressed." Naru placed his hands on the nurse's shoulders and started pushing her out the door.

"Whatever you say." Mai replied.

"I do." Then once the nurse was fully out the door he addressed her before closing it, "Thank you and I'm sorry...for him." He then closed the door in the nurse's face and wheeled to face Mai.

"A 'thank you' and an 'I'm sorry' in the same sentence? Why don't I get that?!" She grumbled to herself as she searched for her clothes.

"Possibly because she doesn't act like she has a stick shoved up her..." Naru started.

"Fine, whatever." Mai interrupted. "That nurse has hated me all morning."

"And you've been moody all morning."

"Yeah, well wouldn't you be?" Mai retorted.

Naru watched Mai as she found her clothes in a plastic bag beside the chair next to her bed. "No, why would I be?"

"Hmm, gee Naru, I don't know, maybe it's because I've had to suffer through one embarrassment after another since I've been here!" Mai bit out sarcastically.

Naru folded his arms. "Like what?"

"Peeing in a bottle for a start."

"What else?"

"That nurse keep coming and going as she pleases. What if I was naked?"

Naru sighed exasperatedly. "Mai, she's a nurse. That's her job and part of that job is seeing people without their clothes on."

"I don't care, it's embarrassing!"

Naru closed his eyes and shook his head. She didn't really seem bothered by the fact that he was going to see her naked body now did she? So why was she so embarrassed that a nurse was going to see his naked body?

"Your logic astounds me." He said finally. Mai stuck her tongue out at him before taking off her gown and starting to put her clothes on. Naru stared a her for a moment before shrugging and sitting down on his bed.

"Alright, let's go home!" Mai exclaimed after she finished. She stood up quickly only to sit back down again as she got dizzy.

"Mai..." Naru began.

"No, I'm fine! Besides you have it a lot worst right? Dizziness...isn't a problem."

"I think I should call Lin, at least he can transport us." Naru said.

Mai nodded slowly, making sure not to make her dizziness worse. "Fine." Naru went to exit the room as there was a phone right outside. Mai decided to sit back on the bed since it'd be a while before Lin came.

Naru came back a few minutes later frowning. "He said he'll be here as soon as possible."

"Then why are you frowning?"

"He gave me a lecture on allowing you to leave." Mai made an 'o' with her mouth.

"Yeah, he does that sometimes." She said sheepishly.

"Why? He knows I get out when I want anyways."

"I dunno. I guess he somehow thinks my opinion will stop you." 'And sometimes it does...' Naru thought. 'I'm not going to tell her that though.'

After almost an hour later, Lin finally came.

He sighed when he entered. "Come on then, let's go." Mai stood up and walked out of the room without saying anything. She was still feeling dizzy though. Naru made sure to walk right beside Mai just in case she needed to lean on him for support. Lin shook his head at the pair from behind them. It seems Mai's upset about something and Naru knows she's upset but not entirely sure why she is. And Mai's usually only upset when something happens between her and Naru... Lin sighed. And here he thought they'd hopefully be moving forward. They reached the lift and Naru pushed the button to call it. Mai leaned against the wall until it came up.

"Are you really sure you don't want to stay and get some more rest?" Naru asked quietly.

Mai started to take deep, slowly breathes. "I can rest at home." Was all she said.

"If you're sure." Naru murmured to her. They went in the elevator once it got there. Neither one pushed the button for the ground floor so in the end Lin sighed and did it himself.

"Stubborn teenagers." He mumbled under his breath.

"Actually I was busy supporting M...Naru." Naru informed.

"I just forgot to push the button." Mai admitted.

Lin said nothing just stared at Mai and Naru. He has to remember to act like he knows something's up like Monk and Ayako but doesn't exactly know what. 'I don't think I've had this much fun in a while.' He mentally smirked.

"It's unlike you to forget things Naru." Lin said.

"Well...I guess I just didn't get enough sleep last night...?" Mai replied.

"That's funny because you seemed pretty fast asleep when I visited." He pointed out.

Mai cursed in her head. "It was after you left. Right Mai?" Naru shrugged at the question. 'If I had the energy, I'd hit him.' Mai glared at him that he's not helping her in this situation.

"I don't know, I was asleep. At least I was after I woke you from that nightmare you were having." Naru said.

"Nightmare? What nightmare?" Lin asked Mai.

"It was just random nonsense, nothing serious." Mai informed. Lin nodded. They then reached their floor and got out. Naru still walked beside Mai just in case. She wobbled a bit but managed to stay upright. She was not all that dizzy just really tired. They reached the van and waited for Lin to unlock it. Naru still watched Mai closely as she waited in front of the passengers' side of the door.

"I'm fine Naru. How many more times do I have to tell you that?" She asked once she felt Naru's stare.

"I'm not convinced Mai and am going to continue worrying." He informed stubbornly.

"Why are you worrying in the first place?" She grumbled as Lin unlocked the door and she started to get in.

"I don't know, I just am." Naru replied.

Mai paused before continuing and sitting down, "That's not an answer."

"Yes it is." Naru argued.

"No, it's not. Not when you said you are just because you are." Mai retorted. Lin cranked the van up and started driving after Naru got in also.

"What do you want me to say because you obviously won't accept any answer I give?" He demanded.

Mai shook her head. "Forget it." Naru looked like he was going to say something back to continue the argument when Lin spoke.

"Will you both pack it in, I'm trying to drive and don't need your petty squabbles distracting me!" Both Mai and Naru looked at Lin shocked. Lin's never snapped at them before like that! They both shrugged and mumbled apologies to Lin. The rest of the ride to Naru's apartment was silent.

When they got there, there was a bit of confusion over offering tea to Lin whilst Mai got settled as obviously Naru couldn't make it. In the end Lin himself volunteered to make some whilst the other two were making Mai comfortable. But Mai still didn't talk to Naru. Naru shook his head and flopped into an armchair. Mai just sat on the couch. Lin then entered with a tray of tea. He kind of wavered at the strange atmosphere between the two teens though. He sighed, put the tray down on the table and sat on the sofa. He looked at Mai who was avoiding looking at Naru and then Naru who was watching Mai. 'Naru did something...again.' He decided to pour himself a cup of tea. If he was going to put up with another argument he was going to need it. But they probably wouldn't argue while he was there. They might slip up in all the arguing.

Lin sipped his tea as the silence between Naru and Mai continued. After almost ten minutes of it Lin couldn't take it anymore.

"Will you two talk to each other please?! You are driving me mad with your childish attitudes!"

"I am not acting childish!" Mai denied.

"Neither am I." Naru stated.

Mai scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Oh please."

"And your scoffing just illustrates Lin's point that you have a childish attitude." Naru said.

"Look who's talking! So do you!" She yelled back.

"Prove it. What have I done that makes you believe I have a childish attitude?" He demanded to know.

"I don't know!" Mai confessed. "But every time something happens you just act like it never happened or avoid it! It's so annoying; I never know what to think!"

"Now what are you talking about?" Naru asked in confusion. Lin resisted the urge to rub his temples. He now kind of regretted getting them to talk.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about!" Mai snapped.

"No, I'm afraid I don't."

"How convenient that you've forgotten what happened last night before the nurse came in." Mai muttered.

That caught Lin's attention. "What happened...?"

"That's none of your concern." Naru interrupted before Lin could finish his question. 'Of course Naru would say that.' Lin decided to keep quiet from now on and hopefully more information would be revealed.

"You asked me and I gave you an answer." Naru admitted.

"What exact answer did you give me other than yet another denial?!" Mai demanded. Naru flickered his eyes over to Lin and back at her, saying they're not having this conversation with Lin there. Mai sighed, shook her head and turned away from him.
