Blind to the Obvious
A tiny little short story I wrote inbetween the boredom of work.
The Lunch Room was vibrant with argument as Blake found herself at wits end over being stuck in the middle of, and even more disturbing on the same side as her was Weiss Schnee. Her ear twitches at the volume before she forces it to stop.
Weiss stands up with a huff stomping her ornate shoe onto the lunch room's tile floor with a reverberating click unheard among the masses and shouts indignantly towards the rest of team RWBY and JNPR, who have all allied themselves against her and Blake.
"There is absolutely no way, in all of Remnant, that you all knew Blake was a Faunus! There was no evidence whatsoever to point towards it!"
Yang manages an incredible deadpan look at the sheer confidence of the Schnee heiress and utters a simple,
"Really, Weiss. You really don't see-" She throws a lazy head towards Blake, who looks at her annoyedly, a slight frown on her lips. "any semblance of an angry kitty cat at all?"
It is Weiss' turn to act frown now as she gives a haughty hmpf but decides to entertain the woman and shifts her eyes towards Blake.
"This is incredulous, you are merely poking fun at me, and I won't...stand...it?
The frown lessens suddenly, turning more into a slack-jawed expression that she fixes quickly, her sharp blue eyes widening both in embarrassment at being caught with such an unladylike expression and in surprise at the features of their faunus teammate that she hadn't recognized until now. She sits back down sharply into her seat, hands in her lap, a light dusting of red on her cheeks, and simply states,
"You are absolutely right, I am sorry for my outburst."
Blake groans into the book she was pretending to read to avoid the situation, "Come on, not you too Weiss."
"Im sorry Blake, its just, well you do look like a cat."
Her ear twitches again in annoyance. Ruby spots it, jumps from her seat with a mouthful of food, and points toward the offending extremity, "See! Thats what were talking about, how could you have not noticed the ear twitchies!"
Weiss blushes more in embarrassment as Yang forces her little sister back into her seat, quickly muttering to her, "Down, girl, swallow your food before talking."
Ruby gives a quick nod and then looks down the table at Jaune and, by extension, the rest of team JNPR and then, making sure to swallow this time, asks them,
"You guy's noticed to right Jaune?"
"Yeah."
"We indeed noticed."
"Yeppers."
"I did think it was odd that she hid her ears behind a bow that was shaped like cat ears."
The ubiquitous agreement of the other team left Blake feeling less annoyed at them and now a little embarrassed as doubt crept in. 'Maybe I wasn't as stealthy about it as I thought.' She thinks, only to just as suddenly gain a second wind of annoyance as she clears it from her mind, sets her book down on the edge of the table, and says,
"Maybe to you it was obvious, but, thats only because, you seven are always in such close proximity of me at all times, no-one else could have noticed my subtle Faunus mannerism's."
"Hey, Kitty Cat, you dropped your book." Coco's voice suddenly rings out from behind Blake, unknowingly copying the name Yang had used earlier. She doesn't stop moving to her table where the rest of CFVY is sitting.
"Oh thank you, wait! How did you know too?" Blake is positively fuming at this point, face glowing red as if she had just swallowed burning coals.
Coco simply responds with a wave as she continues walking and utters with a turn head, "Dude, it's obvious everyone knows your a faunus."
Blake's eyes follow her suspiciously until she noticed a long pair of fuzzy brown bunny ears on one of her teammates. Blake's anger is simmered as she nods to herself knowingly.
"Ah, of course someone is bound to pick up on Faunus traits when they have a Faunus on their own team."
Ruby begins to say, "I dont think thats really-" before her mouth is rapidly covered by Yang's hand, silencing her with a quick 'mrmph' as Yang continues for her, "Your absolutely right Blake, I dont think anyone else knows your a Faunus at all." She laughs quickly, "Nope, not a chance, right guys?"
"Uh sure."
"I suppose your right."
Blake nods to the teams before her with a victorious expression, unaware of how far her goalpost has shifted, and responds, "I thought as much myself, now if you dont mind, I think im going to go return this book to the library before class starts again."
Blake stands up and confidently struts away, her bow bouncing with each step.
Yang suddenly removes her hand from Ruby's mouth with a disgusted expression and wipes her saliva-covered hand off on a nearby napkin with a quickly uttered, "Oh Rubes, gross."
Ruby, as quick as ever, ignores her sister and asks the table, "Why didn't we tell her she's not being sneaky at all?" She accidentally smacks the table as she leans forward to leer at the members, nearly knocking over a stray milk carton.
Jaune shrugs helplessly and responds, "I just didn't want her to have another temper tantrum."
Yang agreed with Jaune as she continued wiping her hand off, "Yeah Ruby, it's better for us to just take this loss then have to deal with her moping about the place and avoiding us again."
Ruby sinks into her chair with mixed feelings, she feels like she is betraying a friend, but at the same time, it really wasn't that big of a deal; she resounds with a sigh and then agrees with the team, "I suppose it is for the better."
The ones that hadn't spoken up yet nod or give quick utterances of yeah, and the day continues on as if nothing has happened, Blake continuing to live in blissful forced ignorance that no one in Beacon knew she was a faunus. Despite it being self-evident, she was one.

Yeah, I kind of got bored at work and thought this up real quick to waste time, but as for Blake, it's undeniable from the get-go that she's a Faunus, right? I think the first time I watched the show, I didn't realize she had a bow on at all, and when she revealed I was like, "Wait what?"
But anyways, this is just a quick little one-shot idea I had in my head about what if the gang and pretty much everyone already knew about Blake's Faunus heritage; thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed it.
