We do not own Ghost Hunt, just the plot of this story!

"Don't mind me, just continue." Lin encouraged. They both glared at him as though he were mad. "Or not..." He murmured under his breath. They both went back to looking away from each other. Lin stood up. "Look you two, whatever happened at the hospital you need it talk it through or get over it. Ignoring each other and refusing to talk is not going to solve anything."

"We are not discussing this in front of you." Naru snapped.

Lin sighed exasperatedly. "I didn't say in front of me, now did I?"

"And yet you were encouraging us to do just that not five minutes ago." Naru pointed out. Lin glared at him, trying not to lash out at him and end up saying his name. "My point exactly."

"Fine." Lin agreed before he says something he shouldn't. "I'll leave and you two can talk about whatever it is you need to." Mai and Naru's heads snapped towards him. Mai opened her mouth to speak but Lin held his hand up. "I have to go now anyway, I have work to do." He said.

"L-Lin wait-" Mai began but Lin had already slammed the door. Mai sighed and laid back on the sofa again. She made no attempt to talk with Naru though. Naru made no effort to talk to her either. What made Mai even madder was that she couldn't go anywhere...the living room was her bedroom.

"You can sleep in the bedroom; I thought you would be more comfortable there." Naru said after a few more minutes of silence.

Mai looked at Naru from the corner of her eye. "Thanks."

"You're welcome." Mai began to get up and go to the bedroom. She wobbled a little and almost fell back on the sofa. "Mai!" Naru said when he saw she almost fell.

"I'm fine Naru. I can do it." Naru wished he could pick her up and carry her to the bed so she wouldn't be falling every few seconds. Unfortunately his current body wouldn't be able to do that so he just had to watch her try to make it on her own. And that's another reason why he wanted his body back—so he wouldn't have to sit and watch her.

Mai stood again and carefully made her way to the door. She stopped at the doorframe and slightly turned around and opened her mouth but closed it when no words came out. She shook her head and continued to slowly make her way down the hall towards the bedroom. Once she entered, she sat down on the bed. She was already tired from her walk. She flopped backwards then rolled onto her side so she was curled up in the middle of the bed. 'Thanks a lot Lin...Now it's even more awkward between me and Naru.'

About half an hour later Naru knocked on the door bearing a cup.

"I brought tea." He said simply. "Don't worry; I went out to get it." He explained when Mai eyed the cup warily. Mai nodded and held her hand out for it. Naru walked over and handed her the cup before sitting down on the bed. Mai looked at him through her bangs as she blew her tea to let it cool down. They both sat in silence for a while. Mai sighed and ran a hand through her hair marvelling at how soft it felt. 'I always wondered what Naru's hair felt like and now I know. I wonder how he gets it so soft.' Naru startled Mai when he suddenly laid across the bed. She yelped in a rather unmanly sounding way and accidently spilt tea on Naru's chest.

Naru jerked up. "Mai!"

"Sorry." She said cringing slightly. "You startled me."

"I'll be right back." He stated standing up and walking out the room. He came back in a few minutes later with only his bra covering his chest and proceeded to root through one of the drawers for another shirt he could 'borrow' from himself.

"Why aren't you using one of my shirts I packed for you?" Mai grumbled.

"Because I can't tell what half of your clothes are." Naru replied.

"I'm pretty sure you can tell what a shirt is."

"There are no shirts in that bag, I looked." Naru declared adamantly.

"What?! I know I packed more than that..." She set down the cup on the table beside her bed and started getting up off the bed.

"Oh no you don't, you are resting." Naru said as he crossed the room and pushed her back down on the bed.

"Naru I'm just going to go check and then I'll come right back."

"No you're not; you're staying here and resting. I'll sit on you if I have to." He insisted.

Mai huffed. "If you haven't noticed I'm a lot stronger than you right now. I can just pick you up." She challenged.

"Not in your currently weakened state you can't." Naru retorted.

"Even if I am a little weak right now I'm still stronger than you." She said as she tried to get up again. Naru pushed her back down again. Mai glared up at him. "Will you stop doing that?!" She bellowed. She grabbed his wrist and pulled him on the bed. Naru landed face first on Mai's chest. They caught each other's eyes and blushed.

"I...um...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that." Naru said as he used Mai's arms to push himself off her and marvelled at how strong and toned his arms felt.

"No, it's my fault, I shouldn't have done that." Mai apologized as she helped guide Naru upright and tried to avoid looking at his bra-clad chest only to fail.

"Hey, my eyes are up here." Naru snapped as he caught Mai's gaze.

"Sorry, I just didn't realize my boobs were so..." Mai shook her head.

"It's weird to look at yourself like that you know." Naru commented.

"Well who was the one marvelling at how strong they were?!" Mai pointed out. "Don't think I couldn't feel you gently squeezing your muscles to test them."

Naru slightly glared at her but decided to change the subject instead of answering that, "Don't you think this conversation is too weird?"

"You started it." Mai muttered.

"That's a very childish argument Mai." He stood up and proceeded with finding a shirt.

"Doesn't make it any less true." Mai replied grabbing her tea.

"You were the one who tried to get up in the first place." He pulled out one of his black shirts from his drawer.

"Yeah, only because you aren't wearing the clothes I took the time to pack for you."

"Mai I already told you there aren't any—and don't try to stand up again." He ordered as he stuck his arms through the sleeves and started buttoning up the shirt. The sleeves flopped off the ends of his arms as they were too short for the men's shirt he'd chosen. Mai tried tear her gaze away from him once she noticed the heat on her cheeks...in other areas. 'I look really good in Naru's shirt... No, bad Mai, I mustn't think such things!'

Naru rolled up the sleeves until they got to his wrists. The neck of the shirt was hanging open a bit loosely too. Naru tried to pinch it together with one of his hands.

"Stupid thing..." He grumbled.

"See this is why I packed you a bag of my clothes to wear." Mai said.

"Mai don't start that again." He said as he came back and sat down on the bed again.

"I'm not starting anything; I'm just pointing out a fact."

Naru gave her a stern look. "And I already-" He stopped and pinched the bridge of his nose. He was not going over this again. Mai had apparently had enough also as she flopped backwards into her pillows. Her stomach growled after a while of silence which felt like forever but in reality it was only five minutes.

"I'll get you some cereal." Naru announced. Mai nodded, too tired to say anything. Naru returned a few minutes later holding a tray with two bowls of cereal and a bottle of milk. He set the tray down on the table beside Mai's bed and poured the milk into the bowls. He then handed one of the bowls to her then sat down on the bed with his own bowl. Mai started eating and then peeked at Naru. 'He's actually staying.'

"Is there something wrong?" Naru asked as he caught her watching him.

"Ah...no, it's nothing."

"Oh great, not this again." He muttered into his cereal. Mai leaned her head back against the pillows to stare at the ceiling with the bowl still in her hands. Naru was right...not this again. They can't keep walking in circles like this. She wasn't sure she could share what was on her mind though.

"Mai you know we can't keep doing this." Naru spoke after a while.

"Yeah, I know." Mai replied.

"No matter what it is we should just tell each other." He blurted.

"Even though you never tell me anything." She pointed out. Mai lifted her head and continued eating.

Naru glared at her. "I meant now we should just tell each other whatever's on our mind."

"And yet I get the feeling you still won't."

"Mai..." He said through gritted teeth. It was taking everything he had to not snap at the girl.

"Well it's true."

Naru's eye twitched. "Fine then, ask me whatever you want and I'll answer it as truthfully as possible."

"Okay then. Why did you almost kiss me in the hospital?" Mai asked.

She's still on that? And didn't he kind of give her an answer? Naru took a deep breathe. "...I don't really know myself."

"See this is what I'm talking about. You aren't sharing anything. You aren't giving me a real answer."

"I can't tell you if I don't know. I just..."

"You just what, Naru?" Mai snapped.

"I don't know why...I just felt like I had to...wanted to."

"You...wanted to...Narcissistic Bastard!" Mai muttered.

"I didn't mean I just wanted to kiss my body you Idiot!" Naru said angrily.

"Really, then what did you mean because you sure as hell can't expect me to believe you actually like me as you are always a complete jerk to me?"

Naru looked down. "It shouldn't be that hard to believe..." He mused lowly.

"Yeah, well you must be denser than I thought if you think that being mean to me will make me believe you like me." Mai said flopping back into the pillows behind her again.

"I'm not being mean...it's teasing." Naru admitted.

"What you do is not teasing Naru and it doesn't make me think anything other than you think I'm annoying and stupid."

"I have never said or thought you were annoying." He simply replied.

"But you don't deny you think I'm stupid."

"...You're not stupid you...just have your moments." Naru said carefully. "Besides I think everyone's stupid compared to me."

"And yet you are stupidest of all because you don't let anyone know what's going on inside that thick head of yours." Mai replied.

"I never have Mai. I can't just change all of a sudden." He placed his bowl on the table to lay on the bed beside Mai, sitting up.

"Well then, you can't expect me to believe that you care about me because part of caring is giving something of yourself in return."

"Do you know how many times I've risked my life just to save yours?" He asked staring at her right in the eyes.

"Do you know how much I do for you every day at the office and that's not including all the tea I make?" Mai returned.

Naru raised an eyebrow. "So you're saying paper work and tea is more important than your life?"

"What I'm saying, Naru, is that those seem to be the only times you give a little of yourself, when you're saving me. The rest of the time you're cold and closed off and don't seem to acknowledge anything I do for you."

"Fine then. What do you do for me that's not your job?" He asked, getting feed up with her stubbornness. Why can't she just believe him when he says he cares for her? It's not like he has a lot of people on his 'care for' list.

"Naru, regardless of whether doing something is my job or not, you should still give me some form of acknowledgement. That's just manners." Mai said before sighing. "We're getting nowhere with this Naru and I'm tired. Please can you leave so I can sleep in peace?"

Naru let out a sigh of his own and rubbed his forehead. "Fine." He stood up and grabbed both the bowls. "I'll be in the other room if you need anything." Mai nodded and turned over on her side. She closed her eyes, but sleep just wouldn't come. Instead she got flashbacks of Naru almost kissing her. She covered her face with her hands when she felt a blush coming along. She curled up tighter and tried again to sleep only her imagination kicked in and completed the vision of Naru kissing her. Her eyes popped open again. She let out a little shriek then lifted the pillow and put her head under it. Naru came into the room at the sound of Mai's apparent distress.

"Mai, why are you trying to suffocate yourself?" He asked when he saw her position.

"I'm not!" She said loudly through the pillow as she lifted her hands a little and put them back down.

"So why the pillow over your face?"

Mai peeked at him. "B-because…I want it to be!"

"For what reason though?"

Mai pursed her lips and mumbled something incoherent.

"I can't hear you Mai." She mumbled what she had said again a little louder.

"I still can't hear you."

Mai removed the pillow from her face. "Oh, you know...thinking of stuff." Naru just glared at her with a look that said 'What did we just talk about?' Mai sighed.

"Well, you were saying something about me sharing but you still haven't come up with the goods yourself Buster so I'm saying nothing."

Naru walked over to her and leaned over her; His face about two inches from hers. "What exactly is it you want to hear?"

"The truth would be nice."

Naru leaned closer.

"Naru?"

"What?"

"What are you doing?" Mai croaked as Naru leaned ever closer. Naru just smirked. Mai swallowed thickly.

Naru cursed all of his luck when they heard someone beating on the front door.
