Jade-Chan, Brainwash Detective, scowled the nighttime streets with urgency this time. Something strange was indeed afoot. What with claimed zombie sightings recently and the rumor of masked heroes who were fighting them off, she could no longer control herself. She must get to the bottom of this mystery. Were the "zombies" actually zombies, or merely a gang of pranksters? Who were the "masked heroes"? No obstacle would stop her now; her perseverance was undying.
She was investigating the park benches just when a noise came from far away that sounded like steel on steel. She straightened up and tried to listen for it again. Clang! It came. She knew the direction from which it originated now.
"I have found them!" She said, surprised but determined. "Time for the Detective uncover the mystery- !"
She silently rushed through the park and came to stop just outside an alleyway, a very long and winding alleyway that she immediately knew would be very easy to corner someone in. Cautiously, she made her way further in. She peeked her head around the first corner, and the sight she saw was almost beyond her comprehension.
There was not one, but two warriors. She did not know if they were masked, as they were facing away from her and were also moving incredibly fast. There was not one, but an astounding six so-called zombies. And they were fighting. But to be quite honest, the "zombies" were the victim of a one-sided battle, as the two heroes seemed to dispatch of them quite easily, one after the other, as if taking their time; as if playing with them, even. One was a handsome man using a knife, and the other was a pretty woman using – was it just her hands? Her strength seemed amazing. She marveled at the pair. They really looked like superhumans.
Surprisingly, the last of the zombies gave the man some trouble. He was tired out already, it seemed, and the zombie took advantage of this by jumping on his back, scratching at him. The woman, having none of that, leapt across in a glorious fashion and ripped the zombie's head straight off. The Detective could not help in that moment but to gasp at the spectacle, which drew both of the heroes' attention. They turned around, and for the first time, she got a pristine look at their faces. She gasped loudly again and put a hand to her mouth in utter bewilderment.
"Shiki-Sama?!"
"Uh- Hisui? What are you doing here?"
"Shiki-Sama, what – and, Arcueid-San!? You are- "
"Hehe – hello~" The blonde girl waved mischievously.
Shiki rushed to her to prevent her from nearly falling over in shock. "Hisui, I promise it's not what it looks like. ... Okay, well, actually, it is, but I promise I will explain everything at the mansion! Let's just head back, and..."
"Shiki-Sama..." The Detective's fast breathing slowed down as she attempted to fully grasp the situation. "D-does Akiha-Sama know about this?"
Shiki's face changed to an expression that almost guaranteed a positive answer. She gasped for a third time. She couldn't believe it. She wouldn't believe it. Shiki-Sama, the handsome, kind, sickly eldest son of the esteemed Tohno estate... fighting crime in the night like this? And Akiha-Sama knew? What a scandal!
She passed out in his arms.
"What do you think, Hisui-Chan?" Kohaku-San asked as her sister read the last of the manuscript she had typed out. She was very proud of this one, and eagerly wanted an opinion on it.
Hisui quietly set the pages down. "Nee-San, do you mind some friendly criticism?"
"Fu-fu, that is why I gave you the story to read, Hisui-Chan."
"Well then, I hope you will forgive me for saying this, but it is absolutely preposterous to place Shiki-Sama in this situation. In fact, I would say it is an insult to his character. Honestly, having him and Arcueid-San fight dead people... you should have the greatest respect for Shiki-Sama."
"Isn't it fun to imagine Shiki-San like this, though? I know it's not real, but just think of it! How exciting! Sometimes, taking someone we know in real life and throwing them in a story is a sign of respect, Hisui-Chan. My ability to make you and Shiki-San into whatever I want is a sign of flattery, a statement that I care about both of you enough that I would invest time imagining things with you two in them."
"I – suppose." Hisui apologized. "But still, Nee-San... Shiki-Sama and Arcueid-San as zombie killers... it is most unbelievable, even for a story."
"Well, Brainwash Detective thought the same thing, so in the end, I suppose that's all that matters." Abruptly, the twin maids heard the unlocked doors of the mansion opening.
"It's Shiki-San!" "Is Shiki-Sama back?"
They headed downstairs to see Shiki Tohno smiling at them. "Ah, hello, you two. I'm just going to go to bed now, if neither of you mind."
"Oh Shiki-San, you were out so late!" Kohaku-San said, playfully beginning to lead him up the stairs. "You really should set up a bedtime, or you'll make a bad habit for yourself when you get older."
"Shiki-Sama." Hisui's stoic voice brought the two to a halt just before the first stair step. "Where were you tonight? What were you doing?"
"Ah – Hisui." Shiki stammered a bit and appeared a little flustered. "Well, you know that I just like- "
"Oh, for goodness's sake, all of you!" The mildly irritated voice of Akiha, head of the household, coming from the upper floor, caused all the others to tilt their heads up to see her. "It is one-thirty in the morning. You shouldn't ask Nii-San such questions at a time like this. Hisui, Kohaku, just go to your rooms."
Instantly, the maids bowed in agreement, left Shiki standing where he was, and silently walked away.
Once both had left, Shiki walked up the stairs by himself towards his sister. "Thanks, Akiha. And, I'm sorry for being so late again."
"That hardly matters now, Nii-San." Akiha's gaze remained stern. "There is a sudden issue that has come to my attention I wish to discuss with you."
Shiki grew serious at this as well. "What? Is it a household matter or... something else?"
"A bit of both, actually." She went up to his ear and whispered, "The maids – I think they're on to what your nightly activities consist of."
"Eh- what?"
There was a long silence.
"Wait, why is that an issue?"
THE END.
