Sorry this is so late! It is I, Treelow955's, fault! I meant to post Friday then forgot and then I got a puppy and was busy and forgot some more but I'm posting it now!
We do not own Ghost Hunt!
Mai stared at him trying to think before coming to her senses. "Oh, that. Well that was just in case you needed something in the night but felt too ill to get it." She lied. Naru didn't seem too convinced though.
"Are you sure it wasn't for another reason Mai?" He asked.
"Like what?" Naru crossed his arms. "Well Naru? Like what?" Mai questioned.
Naru suddenly smirked. "You must have just really wanted to sleep with me." Mai froze and her cheeks started turning pink.
"What?! No, that's...that's...no!" She denied. "How could you even think that?" She chuckled nervously. Naru cocked an eyebrow in amusement. "I'm going to bed now." Mai declared hoping the torment would end if she did so.
"In the bed?" Naru innocently asked.
"No, on the sofa. You puked all over the bed." Mai pointed out.
"Yeah, you should really change the sheets...I mean I have to sleep there."
"Not tonight I'm not." Mai said as she stretched out on one of the sofas. Naru glared at her. Mai had already closed her eyes though.
Naru went over to her. "Mai." Mai ignored him. "Mai." He repeated. She still ignored him. He started poking her on her shoulder. "Mai, I know you're awake."
Mai grabbed his hand to stop him poking her any more. "Naru quit it. Just sleep on the sofa like I'm doing." She grumbled tiredly. Before Naru could protest she continued, "You did it last night." Naru let out an irritated growl. Mai ignored that. "I don't know about you but I'm really tired from everything that you put me through tonight so please, Go. To. Sleep."
She heard Naru stomp off towards the other sofa...or was it the door...she couldn't be bothered to look and instead settled herself to go to sleep. Naru's a big boy, he can do as he pleases. She heard more stomping and clattering come from somewhere but she was too sleepy to care anymore. She started to drift off to sleep. A sound slam startled her though. Groaning and growling at having been disturbed, Mai got up to go investigate what Naru was up to. It sounded like he was in the kitchen.
"Naru, what the hell are you doing?" She asked when she found him.
"Trying to make tea."
"I thought you said you couldn't make tea."
"Emphasis on the trying Mai."
Mai sighed. She went over to him and took the teapot from him. "Sit down and let me do it."
Naru didn't complain, he just did as told. "I thought you said you wanted to go to sleep."
"Well obviously I couldn't with you clattering and banging around in here."
"...Sorry." He apologized just above an audible tone.
Mai let out another sigh. "It's okay Naru, I probably could've done with some tea before bed anyway." After she made her and Naru tea, she turned around to give Naru his when she found him just staring at her. "What is it Naru? Is something wrong?" She asked.
"You'd be a great mother someday." Naru blurted as he took the tea from a stunned Mai's hand.
Mai blinked, surprised. That's not something she expected. Mai wanted to say something but she felt too stunned and emotional for any words to come out.
"Mai?" He asked slightly worried as he noticed her eyes started tearing up.
"I'm sorry, just excuse me for a moment." She said as she rushed out of the room. Naru watched her as she ran out. He didn't know whether to follow her or not. He really wanted to know why she started crying in the first place though. He only said she's going to make a great mother someday...Did she not want to be a good mother? He decided the only way to find out was to go after her and ask her. So he got up and searched for her in the apartment. He found her in the bathroom.
"Mai? Is something wrong?" He asked as he approached her.
Mai shook her head from her position on the floor. "N-no, I'm fine."
"Something is obviously bothering you Mai, now what is it?" Mai peeked at him through her hands. "Mai?" Naru asked.
"Why did you say that?" She whispered curiously, her face wet from her tears.
"Say what?" Naru questioned, confused.
"That I'd be a good mother..."
"What's wrong with saying that?" Shouldn't she have taken that as a compliment? Mai just shook her head at him without giving him an answer. "I want to know why you ran out crying." Naru said softly.
"I didn't run." Mai protested.
"Fine, walked out quickly then." Naru amended. "Why did you do that?" He asked. Mai looked down at the floor for a moment.
"Because..." Mai started.
"Because what, Mai?"
She sighed. "It's nothing; it's stupid."
"I'll be the judge of that, now what is it?"
"My parents use to tell me that all the time..."
"I see."
"Every time I would help my mom around the house they would say that." Mai smiled sadly. She scrunched up her eyes and looked up at Naru. "So why did you say it?"
"Because that is what I thought at the time." Naru answered.
"But why? All I was doing was making your tea like always?"
"You didn't have to though, you could have left me to it, it's not like we're at the office." Mai wiped her cheeks with the back of her hand. "And you took care of me when I was sick earlier...You didn't complain or yell at all." Naru added as he sat down on the floor beside her.
"Well of course I didn't yell. What good would it have done? Besides, it's not like you could help it."
"True, but you didn't have to help me either."
"What else would I have done? I couldn't leave you like that." Naru had to resist the urge to roll his eyes or slam his head in the wall. 'Stubborn as always isn't she?' Mai frowned at him. Naru noticed and blinked at her. 'Now what is it?' "You do know I can tell what you're thinking on your face right?" She asked. Naru turned away from her, deep in thought. 'How is she doing all the things I knew about her...She's never been able to do this before...' Mai let out a sigh and Naru turned his head back to look at her.
"Is something else bothering you?" He asked.
Mai shook her head. "No..." Naru cocked his head in a disbelieving manner.
"Really?" He asked. His tone saying to tell him what else was in her mind.
"Yeah really." Mai insisted, looking away from him. Naru reached over and gently moved Mai's head to look back at him. "Mai?" He questioned softly.
"W-what?"
"Tell me what's bothering you."
"I already t-told you, n-nothing is." She said as she started to blush.
"Which obviously means something is." Naru stated.
"So...if I say there is something wrong, you'll think there is nothing wrong?" Mai questioned hopefully.
"No." Naru answered. Mai frowned and pouted. Naru tried not to giggle at her. Mai did it even more when she saw Naru trying not to laugh. This made Naru start laughing out loud.
"What's so funny?!" Mai huffed.
"The look on your face...my face...you know what I mean." Mai thought about it for a moment and once she imagined the look she was making on Naru's face she started laughing too.
"I guess it is kinda funny." She admitted. Naru looked at her and smiled. 'At least she's feeling better from before.'
"Shall we go and have that tea now?" He asked. Mai sighed then nodded. They both got up from the bathroom floor and walked back to the kitchen. Naru sat back down at the table. Mai did too after staring at the table for a moment. An awkward silence ensued between them. It was so quiet too. Naru took a sip of his tea. Mai traced the rim of her cup with her finger. It made a noisy squeaking sound as she did it. She kept doing it and doing it and doing it...
"Mai."
"Hmm?" She grunted.
"Stop that."
"Why?" She asked.
"Because it's annoying."
Mai stopped and placed her hand in her lap. "Sorry."
Naru sighed. "It's okay Mai."
Mai took a sip of her lukewarm tea. "I...I'll change the sheets on your bed tonight since I'm not really that sleepy anymore that way you can have your bed back."
"No, I'll sleep on one of the sofas tonight and you can change the sheets tomorrow." Naru insisted.
Mai frowned. "Are you sure? You just wanted me to not long ago..."
"I'm sure." Naru nodded.
Mai sighed. "Alright then but why the sudden change?"
"Because I think you've done enough for me today." 'I have...?' Mai blinked. 'That's a new thing for him to say.'
"O-okay."
Naru nodded again then drained his teacup. Mai looked down at her own tea.
"You need some rest." Naru stated.
"Naru, no I'm fine really. I-"
"Mai you just got out of the hospital, you're going to rest."
"Well, you're sick too." Mai protested.
"Not as much as you are." Before Mai could argue any more she let out a large yawn. She immediately covered her mouth and tried to act like it never happened. Naru had already spotted it though. "Mai go to bed. I know you're tired." She looked like she wanted to object but Naru frowned at her before she could open her mouth.
"Naru don't give me that look." Mai whined after she took another of her tea.
"Don't argue and just go to bed then." Naru replied.
Mai moved her cup over and then folded her arms on the table and placed her head down. "I don't know why I'm so sleepy...I'm used to staying up this late." She finally admitted after staying there for a while.
"However, contrary to popular belief, I am not, I am usually in bed and asleep by now." Naru informed.
Mai yawned again. "I guess that's why you're not sleepy since my body is used to it. Not to mention you were asleep for an hour or two earlier." Naru was about to object when he thought better of his denial about being asleep. Mai, as if sensing his thoughts, lifted her head and gave him a questioning look. "You were asleep...right?"
"Of course I was." Naru said.
Mai narrowed her eyes at him before dropping her head back down on her arms. "You better have been." She grumbled. Naru secretly smirked at her. Mai snapped her head up again to make sure Naru wasn't doing anything behind her back. Naru had stopped smirking as soon as he saw Mai move. "Were you just smirking...?"
"No." He denied.
"I think you were."
"I was not."
Mai tried her best to look intimidating but when another yawn came from her mouth she just decided to give up. "Whatever. I'm going back to sleep." She told Naru as she stood up. Naru got up too and followed her back to the living room. Mai flopped down onto one of the sofas. She sighed tiredly as she covered herself with a blanket. Naru flopped onto the other sofa. He wondered whether he should try and go to sleep too. Maybe he should try. So he laid down and moved until he found a comfortable spot.
He'd just closed his eyes when Mai started snoring. He slowly turned his head towards Mai and slightly glared. 'I do not snore!' He tried to go to sleep again and after he got up and grabbed two more pillows to put over his head to block out the irritating sound, he was finally able to. Then his stomach started to cramp and urge him to go to the toilet. He groaned and quietly but swiftly made his way to the bathroom. 'I hate being female.' He thought. 'I don't see how Mai does this all the time.' He finished what he was doing and went back to his sofa. He scrunched his eyes to try and see the clock in the dark. He realized it was somewhere around three in the morning. He settled himself back down on his sofa. Thankfully Mai wasn't snoring at the moment so he was able to go back to sleep without a problem. That was until he realized he was in the astral plane with Gene again. 'Oh for crying out loud!'
