We do not own Ghost Hunt, only the plot of this story!

He turned around at the sound of his name and found Gene standing there grinning at him. At least this time Gene looked normal and not like Mai. Naru sighed in relief. Gene let out a chuckle as he obviously knew what Naru had been thinking.

Naru turned his attention to his older brother and walked up to him. "Must you always bother me? This is the third time you've done so in the past several days."

"Hello to you too." Gene said sarcastically. Naru rolled his eyes. Gene shook his head at him.

"Is there a reason I'm here?"

"Yes there is. I want to discuss this with you." Gene announced as he snapped his fingers and images of Mai and Naru showering together appeared around them. Naru's eyes widened in shock. "Would you care to explain?"

Naru looked at Gene with his eyes full of anger. "What the hell?! Have you ever heard of privacy you Idiot?!"

"Says the guy romping around in the shower with someone he won't even admit he has feelings for as naked as the day the body he inhabits was born. I think it is you who has no shame Brother!"

"Mai had a part in that too. Why don't you try bothering her for a change?" Naru retorted, completely ignoring the part about the 'feelings for Mai.'

"Ah no Brother. She wasn't given much of a choice about it. Besides, she's currently not on my wavelength."

"Wasn't given a choice?" Naru asked darkly taking a step closer. "The entire thing was completely up to her!"

"She was covered in vomit Noll, other than shower with you or wait what other choice was there? You were the one who decided to commandeer the bathroom and not let her in as you wanted to shower." Gene replied, ignoring Naru's expression.

"Since you know so much, you should know I had it on me too."

"Yeah, on your arms and legs. She was covered in it from her chest down!" Naru scowled. "Don't scowl at me Noll when you know I'm right."

"It doesn't matter, what's done is done." Naru grumbled.

"I would still like for you to explain why you insisted Mai take a shower with you." Gene informed.

Naru narrowed his eyes at Gene. "Why do you care so much? It's none of your business what we do."

"It is my business when the two of you are stuck in the wrong bodies and you are acting like a complete prat." Gene retorted.

"You haven't given a reason." Gene just sighed, shook his head and turned away before he gave in to the urge to smack Naru about the head a few times. Didn't he understand he couldn't just do stuff like that? How poor Mai must have felt he didn't know. Naru could be so stupid sometimes. Especially when it comes to Mai. "If that's all, I think I can leave." Naru hedged.

"Not until you tell me what you thought you were doing when you did this."

"I thought we'd end our argument by finding a solution. The only solution was showering together." Naru deadpanned as he stared at Gene boredly.

"Noll, that was no solution at all. You should have let Mai shower first."

"...It's my house." Naru argued childishly. He still didn't get why Gene was making such a big deal out of this. Gene just shook his head sadly at his brother. There has to be a way to make him understand...

"Can I or can I not go now?" Naru demanded.

"No. You can't." Gene told him sternly. "Noll did you even think of the awkward or embarrassing position you might have put Mai in?"

"If she had objected to it she would have said." Naru stated.

"She wanted to shower." Gene shot back. "It was either go in with you or wait half an hour with vomit all over her and be stuck with the smell!"

"I'm still not seeing the problem here."

Gene actually glared at Naru. "Just apologize to make sure she wasn't bothered by it, you Idiot!"

"Why should I have to?"

"Because she's Mai. I really am surprised she's not too embarrassed to talk to you now." Gene mused the last part to himself.

"That has nothing to do with anything." Naru retorted. Gene closed his eyes to try and calm himself before he really gave in to knocking the idiocy out of his brother. "What's your problem?" Naru asked. Gene opened his eyes.

"My God, how dense are you?! You really don't see the problem with your actions do you or how it affects others?" Gene snapped.

"I don't see why you're so upset about it! It wasn't affecting you in any way!"

"It wasn't affecting... Noll, you are a complete moron! It affects me because I am Mai's spirit guide and your brother! Mai was mortified by having to shower with you but you are obviously too dumb and selfish to see it! I honestly don't know why she puts up with you and your antics." Naru glared coldly at him. "Don't you look at me like that Noll."

"I'm leaving." Naru informed looking away from Gene and turning around.

"You are not. Not until I'm done." Gene informed. Naru ignored him. He started to walk away. "Noll!" Gene called after him. Naru didn't even turn. He took a deep breath and began to let himself wake up. "I said no!" Gene shouted as he used his power to make Naru stay.

"Gene, stop being so childish!" Naru growled back to him.

"Me being childish?! How about you? You can't even tell that you've done something wrong."

Naru whipped around to face Gene with fire in his eyes. "Let it go Gene. It's none of your damn business what I do."

"It may not be but I'm trying to get you to see that it was Mai's business too and she was obviously uncomfortable with the arrangement."

"Well she sure didn't act like it!"

"Because she was hoping you would back out! She had no other choices!" Mai seemed perfectly fine to Naru. The only time he knew she was embarrassed was that one time when she was having the 'problem.' But besides that, She. Was. Fine. Especially after the shower! There was no sign of her ever being embarrassed or uncomfortable at all! Gene shook his head at him again.

Naru glared at him. "What?"

"You'll never learn will you? You won't ever learn how to read people and care about how they feel."

"I know Mai perfectly." Naru argued. "And don't say that if I know her so well then I should have known that she felt uncomfortable."

Gene raised an eyebrow at him. "Well it seems obvious you didn't." Naru looked away angrily. "Well you didn't."

"Gene-" Naru paused as he felt someone trying to wake him. "-I think Mai's trying to wake me." He looked around as he heard her voice...well, his voice but you get the idea.

"Noll, do-"

"I have to go." Naru said as his voice started fading out.

"Noll, no." Gene tried but Naru was already gone. Gene let out a sigh, feeling sorry for Mai. He wished his idiot brother would realize his feelings for the girl soon. He shook his head again and cursed the fact he was dead. But then again Mai would probably still love Naru even if he wasn't. He procured a chair from somewhere and slumped in it. All he could do was wait. Waiting sucked.

"Naru." Mai called as she gently shook his shoulder.

"Huh...wha...?"

"It's time to get up. It's already seven!"

"Noooo..." Naru moaned as he felt like he hadn't slept at all.

"Naru come on, we have to go to the office." Mai reminded him.

"Not fair." He whined.

"I never thought I'd see the days when Naru didn't want to work..." Mai mused and then started poking him like he did to her last night. Unfortunately her plot didn't go as planned as Naru's leg swung out and kicked her in the thigh. An inch or two to the left and he'd have really made her yell. Mai grunted from the impact. She sighed as she tried to think of what to do. Then she remembered last time. "Naru please don't make me pick you up again." A grunt issued from Naru's lips. He reluctantly cracked his eyes open and glared slightly at Mai.

"What's that look for?" She asked.

"Nothing." Naru grumbled as he sat up.

"Well it's obviously something."

"I said it's nothing." Naru brought a hand to his head and closed his eyes.

"Why won't you tell me what's wrong?" Mai asked softly.

Naru pushed the blankets off of him and stood up. Mai moved slightly so he could do so. "It's just Gene again." He mumbled as he began walking to the bathroom.

"What was it this time?" Naru didn't say anything, he just continued walking and then slammed the bathroom door shut. Mai flinched. "Man, someone's in a bad mood this morning." She grumbled to herself. "Gene must have really ticked him off..." The sound of the shower could be heard from behind the bathroom door. Mai sighed and headed to the bedroom to change before fixing breakfast. Naru still hadn't come out of the bathroom yet. Mai hoped he wouldn't stay in there too much longer. She then heard the bathroom door crash back open. Mai flinched once again. 'What the hell did Gene say to him?!'

She heard Naru stomp into the bedroom. Mai bit her lip wondering if she should talk to him once he gets in the kitchen or not. She decided she'd see how he was after a cup of tea. Not long after Mai began making their tea, Naru came walking in with a scowl still on his face. He dumped himself in a chair sulkily. Mai went over and slowly placed his tea on the table as she watched him carefully. He picked it up and sipped it. 'Good! Now maybe he'll calm down enough to tell me why he's so mad.'

"Naru?" She tentatively asked. Naru looked up. He wasn't glaring but anyone could tell he was still angry. "Never mind." 'Geez, I guess tea didn't make it better!' Naru still sat sulking in his chair. Mai went back to cooking the food. Naru decided to watch her to get his mind off his encounter with Gene. But doing that only made the words that Gene said resound in his mind. 'I don't have feelings for Mai. Why does everyone keep thinking that? First Lin and now Gene!' He let out a long sigh of frustration. If that's true that he doesn't love her then...why does he keep having the urge to kiss her? He shook his head against the thoughts forming in it. He didn't even realize Mai was glancing at him with concern filling her eyes. He took another sip of tea. Mai turned around with two plates in her hand and set them in the table. One in front of Naru. Naru looked at the contents of his plate.

Mai shifted her gaze to the plate then to Naru and back again. "Is...it okay?"

"How would I know? I haven't even tried it yet." He responded.

Mai rolled her eyes. "I meant would you eat it? Is it the kind of food you like?" Naru just shrugged. Sitting down, Mai sighed softly and began eating her food. Naru just had another sip of tea. 'Is all he going to do is drink tea?!' He finally started to eat the food Mai had prepared and she calmed down a bit. The silence between them was deafening though. All you could hear was the clanking of the plates and glasses. Mai sighed again. She wanted some form of conversation instead of this awkward silence. But what was there to talk about? Naru kept shutting down most topics of conversation. 'What do I do?!' Mai mentally cried.
