Breakfast and Story Time

Canada woke up early the next morning and quietly headed downstairs to make breakfast for himself and his friends. The other two nations slept in late so he had plenty of time to make them something to eat before they came downstairs. He started by setting the table, then took out ingredients for pancakes and began to mix them.

Prussia came down before Romano, and greeted Canada lazily as he took a seat at the kitchen table. "Mornin' Birdie." The albino was still half asleep and not quite ready for any type of real conversation, not that Canada minded too much. He was still busy preparing their breakfast.

"Did you sleep well?" Matthew asked after a few moments of silence between the two. Prussia smiled and nodded. "Yeah I did, that bed is amazing." He rested his chin in the palm of his hand and yawned.

Canada smiled as well, flipping a pancake over. "I'm glad you liked it then." He hummed softly as he continued to cook.

Romano made his way down to the kitchen a few minutes later, and by that time Canada had finished cooking breakfast.

"Good morning Lovi." The Canadian smiled at his friend as the other sat down at the kitchen table beside Prussia. Romano just gave a small nod. "Good morning..." He mumbled, rubbing at his eyes a bit.

Prussia smirked, fully awake by this point, and edged closer to Romano. He wrapped his arm around the Italian's shoulders and looked at him. "Did you sleep well cutie?"

The brunette was too tired to do more than glare at the Prussian for calling him cutie. "I slept fine; now get your fucking arm off of me." The albino simply chuckled and kept his arm around Romano, who didn't seem keen on fighting the other off so early in the morning.

Canada smiled and placed a stack of pancakes on the table, though he didn't sit down yet. Instead, the Canadian walked to the fridge and pulled out a large salmon, calling for his pet bear. Kumajiro slowly lumbered into the kitchen and moved over to Canada. The bear happily took the fish and wandered off to eat it somewhere else in the house.

Canada washed his hands before sitting at the table with his friends to eat breakfast. The other two waited until Canada had taken pancakes from the stack to get their own, and the trio began to eat.

Prussia's eyes lit up at the first bite. It wasn't as if he'd never had pancakes before, he'd tried food from a lot of different places and nearly every country had a variation on pancakes, but the ones Matthew had made were on some whole other level. They were so fluffy and light, it was as if they melted on his tongue as soon as he put them into his mouth, and the taste was heavenly. They were sweet, but only to a small extent. The maple syrup complemented the taste perfectly.

"Oh my god Matthew…these are possibly the best thing I've ever had in my mouth in my entire life." Canada chuckled and smiled. "Thanks." He said a bit awkwardly as he began to eat his own pancakes.

Romano rolled his eyes and tried the pancakes as well, offering Matthew a small clipped smile. "They are really good." His compliment was less eccentric than Gilbert's, but he meant it honestly. The pancakes were delicious.

The three continued to eat in silence until the entire stack of pancakes was gone and all three were full. The silence continued for a few more moments, until Gilbert spoke up and broke it. "You know what we should do today?" The other two looked at him. "Absolutely nothing." He continued a small smile spreading across his face. "We should take advantage of this little vacation and just do nothing."

Romano rested his cheek in the palm of his hand and looked at him with a bored expression. "So you think we should sit around and do nothing all day?"

"Well not nothing nothing, I think we should just relax. Maybe sit around and just talk or something, you know." He might not have his own land like the other two did, but he had been a nation at one point, and he did help out his brother on occasion. So Prussia understood the stress that came with being a nation. Sometimes taking a break was what they really needed.

Matthew voiced his opinion. "I think it's a good idea. I had planned for us to actually go out and do things, but taking one day to settle would be nice." Romano considered it for a moment before nodding his own agreement. "Yeah, you two are right." He got the notion that he might actually enjoy lazing around for the day with these two. After all he did enjoy wasting days just relaxing whenever he had the chance to, and it wouldn't be bad with his two friends. So long as Prussia stayed under control.

Canada stood from the table and grabbed the dirty plates from the table, and carrying them to the sink. Romano stood, and walked over to him. "I can do that." The Canadian smiled at him, but shook his head. "It's fine Romano. I've got it." He politely declined the Italian's offer to help, but Romano insisted on doing so. Which certainly wasn't something he normally did, but Matthew was actually a decent person so he wanted to help out a bit, if he could. "I want to help."

Canada shook his head again. "You're my guest, you don't have to clean." Romano rolled his eyes and gently pushed Canada out of the way before he began to wash the plates from their breakfast.

The blonde pursued his lips and stood to the side watching his friend. Washing dishes wasn't that big of a deal, but he still felt like the other shouldn't be doing. Especially considering the fact that he was a visitor in Matthew's home, but he supposed he could let it slide.

After the kitchen had been cleaned, with no help from Gilbert, the trio of friends headed to the sitting room. The cabin lacked any type of electronics devices, but Matthew lit the fire place so they would have something to look at as they lounged about on the couch.

Romano sat on the left side of the couch; he'd brought his knees up to his chest and wrapped his arms around his legs, tucked into a snug ball, while he faced his friends. The Italian had forced Matthew to sit beside him, acting as a separator between himself and Prussia.

Canada sat comfortably on the couch as well, with his legs crossed, while he leaned back into the cushions. Prussia was taking up far more room than either of his companions, his body sprawled across most of his side of the couch, legs lying on the arm rest while he rested his head on Matthew's thigh.

Luckily it was Matthew, so he didn't mind much. The Prussian would have been roughly shoved away if he'd tried such a thing with Romano. Though, he still would have tried it if he'd been sitting by his Italian friend.

Romano looked at the other two with a blank expression. "So what now?" He questioned, ecstatic that Prussia had refrained from doing anything to idiotic, but unwilling to simply sit around and do absolutely nothing.

"Now we tell kick ass stories to pass the time." Prussia informed him with a wide grin. "Seeing as I'm the most kick ass here, I shall start the stories."

Romano rolled his eyes. "Let me guess, you're going to tell some 'amazing' war story?" He glared at the Prussian. "I'd really prefer if you didn't do that."

Prussia glared and sighed. "Fine, doesn't matter all of my stories are awesome. So I don't even have to tell a war story for it to be super impressive." He tapped his chin lightly as he considered what story he would tell his friends. "Well if I can't tell war stories I could always tell a story about what a kickass guardian I was for West when he was little."

Romano scoffed. "I highly doubt that you were anything near a good guardian."

"Did I say good? No I don't think I did. I said kickass."

Canada looked at him. "That actually sounds like it might be interesting. I wouldn't mind hearing a story like that."

Prussia smirked at Romano. "Birdie approves, so I get to tell my story." Romano simply rolled his eyes again. "Get on with it."

"Now as I was saying, I was a totally kick ass guardian for West, taught him everything that he knows."

"But Germany is absolutely nothing like you?" Romano pointed out. "Don't interrupt." Prussia said, brushing the comment aside. "What was I saying again? …Oh yeah, taught him everything that he knows, except for baking. That pansy Austria probably taught him how to do that." He grumbled. "I only taught him manly things, which all growing boys should do. Like how to climb trees, make sling shots, throw rocks at people and how to hunt."

Romano shook his head. "You've just confirmed all my beliefs about you being a horrible guardian."

"Shut up." Prussia reached up and flicked him. "West was kind of a huge wuss when he was younger though. Teaching him how to hunt was a pain, because he didn't want to hurt the little animals." Prussia rolled his eyes.

"Germany had feelings?" Romano said skeptically. "Shush, Roma." Prussia told him before continuing on with his story. "So after Germany completely refused to kill an animal, I thought I'd teach him how to skin a deer, but he saw the blood and flipped out on me. It wasn't even that bad though."

"Can we just stop this story now? I don't like Germany at all, but I'd rather not hear about how you traumatized him as a child."

Prussia rolled his eyes. "Like you could tell a better story, about yourself."

"Of course I can." Romano scoffed. "And it would definitely be way better than the bullshit we just heard from you." Prussia shook his head. "Well go on then, tell us an amazing story about your childhood."

Romano glared at him. "Screw you asshole." He growled and looked away from the Prussian. "Why don't you tell a story Matthew?"

The Canadian shrugged. "I don't think I have too many particularly interesting stories." He admitted. Prussia looked at him. "Come on Birdie, you've got to have some kind of story to tell us." The Canadian shook his head. "I really don't."

"How is that?" Romano questioned.

Canada pursued his lips slightly and looked at the two of them. "Well…I was alone a lot before the Europeans started coming to North America. I had Alfred and all, but there was a lot space to roam we weren't really together a lot back then. I didn't get used to being around nations until France showed up. He was…a good parent I suppose. He was there all the time and I wasn't used to having a person like that around. He used to insist that I would be just like him, and always taught me how to do things. Some of it stuck I suppose. He was the one that taught me how to cook."

Romano looked at Canada. "It's good that you didn't pick up too much from that pervert. I would not be able to stand you if you were anything like France."

Canada chuckled a bit. "He's not bad all the time; he was always really nice to me when I was younger." Romano huffed. "He tried to take me from Spain all the time."

"Eh…well I'm not so much like him because England started raising me." Canada explained, not delving into the spat between England and France that had led to him becoming the Brit's colony. "His influence is probably what stopped me from being more like Francis."

The rest of the day was spent with the three telling each other random stories, Romano refused to hear any about Prussia's shitty job as a guardian for Germany, but they discussed other things. The Prussian had a few interesting bar tales, Canada shared about his powers of invisibility. You saw interesting things when you were quiet enough to be overlooked by people on occasion. Romano told fewer stories than the other two, but his were still just as interesting. In a strange quirky way. Most of them related to an experience with his brother and were actually very funny.

A/N: Ugh. I really wanted to get this out last week, but then I went on a trip with my family so I couldn't. Then I thought, maybe I'll just update on Canada day, but it appears that I'm a day late. Nearly two days late. T.T Sorry Canada, and happy late Canada day. ^^ And happy early Independence day.
