Kanda's blue eyes gazed into the clear blue sky the next morning. He let a deep sigh escape his throat as his blueberry hair whipped in the wind. His face was shaped in confusion, while his eyebrows were furrowed in anger. He had realized, that at random times of the night, visions of things that he couldn't quite decipher haunted his mind. But the only problem is, he couldn't tell who or what was doing this. Could it probably be a foreshadowing of his lotus flower, which sits idly in its glass at home? Are the petals starting to darken their colors, wither off? The more he thought about it, the more doubt he felt. He shook his head; that can't be it. It just can't be.
Just then, the sound of his bedroom door being pried open got his attention. When he locked eyes with the figure, he saw it was no other than Kenna, her face shaped in bewilderment. "What are you doing up at this time of the morning, Kanda?" The brunette's voice broke the eerie silence. "You usually sleep a lot longer."
Kanda's eyes relaxed, a bantam blush coming across his cheeks, "...It...was nothing. Bad dream woke me from my sleep."
Kenna's eyes widened a bit. "Ah. So the same thing happened to you?"
Kanda gave her a confused look, "What do you mean?"
Kenna let a neurotic laugh escape your throat, "Well, it's hard to explain. These weird visions were causing insomnia. I couldn't sleep well." She stifled a yawn as she slowly walked over to the windowsill and stood next to Kanda. "Besides that, I was thinking about home."
A sudden, warm smile comes from Kanda's lips, "Yeah, same here."
"I wonder how Miranda, Krory, Lavi, and the other exorcists are doing. Especially Komui, who might be piled up with papers at his desk as usual."
Kanda nodded, "And beansprout will be his annoying self as usual."
"What?"
"Nothing."
Kenna sighed, then rested her arms on the windowsill, crossing them, "Ah, okay."
The two then gazed into the beautiful blue sky, feeling their hair flow in the wind. A sudden noise of a jingling bell shot through Kenna's ears. Blinking, she casted her eyes upon the small, slim cat. It's fur was that of jet black color, its eyes were a radiating yellow. A purple collar rested upon her neck, a bell hung down from it. On its forehead was a medium-sized cross, which was a a milky white.
Kenna's eyelashes fluttered as her brown eyes stared at the mark, it somehow seemed familiar to her. But after a few minutes of squinting, she decided to give up, she couldn't tell what the mark stood for. A warm grin came across her mouth as she locked eyes with the cat, motioning her hand towards the room to allow the cat to come in.
With a soft purr, the cat leaped, landing on all fours, then locked its eyes on Kanda and Kenna.
Kanda casted his eyes upon the cat with a smirk, "Oh, it's that cat again. She seems to have taken a liking to you."
Kenna went to say, "Hm?", but then she felt something brush up against her legs. She averted her attention down to the cat, who was swiftly moving behind and between the brunette's legs, her tail brushing up against them as she purred.
"Ah. I see it has."
Kanda laughed, and then his brows furrowed when he saw the marking on the cat's head. Unlike how Kenna saw it, his expression became serious. As he saw the brunette squat down on her knees and move her left arm gently across the cat's back, sudden flashbacks entered his head.
He started to remember the time Allen, Lavi, and him encountered the cat in its actual form, and how it took the form of Lenalee to try to deceive them. Other pieces started to put themselves together, but as they started to play in his head, he heard Kenna's questioning tone break his train of thoughts. He blinked.
"Is there something wrong, Kanda?" Kenna had her head tilted, her long hair rotated at the movement of her cranium.
The blueberry haired man felt a lonely bead of sweat emerge from his forehead, and cleared his throat. "Oh, no, not at all. Why?"
"...Are you positive, Kanda? Your face looked like that of concern."
"It did? I must've been worried about the cat." Kanda went to reveal what he was thinking about, but decided not to. He knew that if he told Kenna, then Kenna would start to worry. So he decided to change the subject, "Let's see if there's any milk around here."
Confused of why Kanda did that, Kenna got up and followed Kanda, with the cat trailing behind them. A small light escaped through the slight opening of the refrigerator as Kanda scanned it for a carton of milk. He then grabbed a bowl, and poured the milk into there. Sensing the cat's eyes on him, a slight smile came across his face as he set it down for her, watching her happily drink it up.
Kenna's brown eyes watched the cat as well, but then she caught a glimpse of Kanda's expression. It was the same expression from before. "Where did this cat come from, by chance?" Kenna questioned the exorcist, getting his attention.
Kanda shrugged, "Who knows? She might have escaped from her owner, and hasn't come back to them yet. She probably might be out for a walk."
Kenna's eyebrows furrowed, "...That can be it. But usually, owned cats and dogs have a collar on their pet. And on that collar has a tag with their name, and sometimes the owner's number beneath it."
Kanda's eyes widened, then went back to their normal size as he rested his hand on his chin, "Yeah, that's true." As he watched the cat drink up the last of its milk, he glanced at the brunette. "Do you want to see if she actually has an owner by looking at her collar?"
"That's a good idea." The brunette locked eyes with the cat, then bent down on her knees once more, and called the cat over. As it gazed into her eyes, Kenna rested the tip of her fingers upon the bell, and let them slide across the beautiful metal. She then observed the bell, tilting it to the left, then right, to see if the cat's name was engraved anywhere on it. Oddly enough, it wasn't, so she decided to look at the purple collar. Kenna let out a frustrated sigh as a result that the cat's name was nowhere to be seen, let alone the owner's information.
She then looked over at Kanda, and she shook her head sadly. Kanda's eyebrows stood up in surprise, he walked over to Kenna, and got down on his knees to look at the cat, then at the brunette. "So she does not have an owner?"
"...So it seems." Kenna then looked back at the cat, and gently put the nub of her arm on the cat's head, slowly moving it back and forth as a purr escaped the cat's throat.
"But the only weird thing about this is...how in the world was she able to get here?" Kanda questioned Kenna. "The Asian Branch of the Black Order is really far away, much farther away than the Black Order."
Kenna's eyebrows furrowed, "Good question."
All of a sudden, the sound of a grandfather clock in the distance got the two's attention. A startled meow came from the cat as the hairs stood up on her back. Kanda and Kenna then watched as the cat bolted out of the room, leaving the two sitting down on the floor in the kitchen.
"That sounds like it's time for us to grab a bite to eat and start our training." Kanda let a sigh escape his throat. He then glanced over at the brunette, grabbing a hold of her elbow as he helped her up. The two then proceeded to the mess hall.
Short huffs of air escaped the former exorcist's lips as Kanda and her decided to call it quits for the day. As Kenna patted off the sweat with her towel, she noticed that Kanda wasn't there for some odd reason. Setting down the towel, she blinked, then looked around. There was an eerie silence, Kenna felt small chills go up her spine.
A sudden sound of wind being invited into the room got her attention. Her hair slowly flowed in the breeze as she saw Kanda sitting on the windowsill, gazing into the beautiful evening sky. Sensing her presence, Kanda looked up, but didn't turn to face her, "Come here."
The 18-year old man's sentence caught her by surprise, no words escaped her mouth. She was a tad confused of why he said that, but then the scene of him asking her if she wanted to chat after training from yesterday played in her head. She then let out a sigh, and slowly walked over to where he was, and sit herself down on the windowsill.
Kanda then casted his eyes upon Kenna, his eyes now gazing into hers. Kenna felt her heart beating faster, her cheeks now a rose-pigment color. Even though Kenna has known him for a couple of months now, she can't help but fangirl in her mind every time he looked at her. Her eyelashes fluttered, a tiny smile coming across her face, "...So what is it you want to talk about, Kanda?"
At the mentioning of that question, Kanda's mind drew a blank. He glanced over at the afternoon sky, then back at Kenna. He had forgotten what to tell her. What should he talk about? A series of thoughts emerged into his head, and after finding one, he cleared his throat, his cheeks flushing a pink pigment color.
"...Well, um, I was just wanted to talk to you about yesterday...about how I had started to like you."
That caught Kenna by surprise, "Y-You did?"
Kanda nodded, "I wanted to go in further detail about it."
Kenna didn't let any words escaped her mouth, she waited for what he had to say.
He went on to tell her about the memories they had when they had first met, how their argument at the beginning was kind of silly to get into. The same thing went for the awkward moment on the train on Kenna's first mission, how she landed in his lap when the train hit a bump. Kenna's face flushed, thinking of that moment. He then talked about the revenge they got on Allen and Lavi for drawing on their faces, Kenna stifled a laugh. But then he went into detail about what had happened since Kenna had been gone.
He explained while he was on his missions with Daisya Barry and Marion, all he could do was think about Kenna, thankfully not thinking of "the annoying beansprout". He had thought over his rude remarks to her, and how he didn't show any kindness to her at all. He then decided, when he had arrived at the Asian Branch to meet Kenna that he would finally confess to her, to put his past behind him, which Kenna, however, does not know about...yet.
"...So, that's why." is what Kanda finally said after taking a deep breath after his long explanation. He let a moment of silence passed by as the sound of the howling wind was heard. A smirk came across his face as he gently rested his hands on the nubs of Kenna's arms. Kenna felt herself blushing massively, her heart sank. Then, to Kenna's surprise, Kanda got quiet for a minute as his blue eyes gazed into her brown eyes, an actual smile replacing his smirk. He then blinked, said a quick "I love you", then planted a surprise kiss upon the former exorcist's lips.
Kenna's eyes widened in shock, her heart was running at a faster pace than before. A few minutes passed by, Kenna noticed that Kanda has not pulled back yet, so she decided to close her eyes.
Finally, the two then pulled back from each other, Kanda's hands still resting on Kenna's nubs of her arms.
Kenna let a warm smile come across her mouth, "...I love you too, Kanda."
Kenna and Kanda then hugged each other, and after letting a brief moment of laughter escape their throats, they started to leave the training room.
Meanwhile, a woman with golden hair, wearing a matching tie and suit, watched the two's movements closely as they left her sight. She then sighed, and put down her binoculars. Her pony-tailed hair whipped in the wind, a smirk laden upon her lips. Her skin then turned that of a dull gray color, and the series of crosses emerged from her temples, stopping at her forehead.
A moment of silence then passed by, only to be broken by Lulu's voice, "...Let the games begin."
