What he didn't realize though was that they had already switched back. Too bad for Lin. He frowned again as he wondered what to do about his laptop. Then a thought struck him. How did they know his password?! The person who messed with his laptop had to have known it so how did they figure it out? No one was supposed to know about that! He hoped Naru didn't know about that. But then that would mean Mai knew...and of course she wouldn't be able to keep her mouth shut if you paid her to meaning that Naru would undoubtedly know by now...'Damn.' Lin cursed. Naru and Mai were looking at him as though he'd lost it again.
"Lin, I think you should go home..." Naru advised. "Take the rest of the day off." Well that confirmed in Lin's mind they hadn't switched back yet as Naru would never say something like that about taking time off, heck he even insisted he work when he had a really bad cold! Then that would mean Mai was still Naru, and Naru would still be Mai...but Mai's body isn't acting like Naru...it's acting like Mai. Even if they did practice on being each other, Naru was not that good of an actor especially to get Mai's facial expression correct. He frowned. It was making his head hurt trying to think about it and work it out. It just didn't make sense though. The pair were blinking at him again.
How were they going to get him to leave? They could grab him by the arms and legs and toss him out the door…Ah, but Mai isn't that strong. Naru had already asked him to leave and he hadn't...So what else were they supposed to do though? Naru let out a sigh. Maybe they could just push him out since he's so caught up in his thoughts. That sounded like their best plan. Naru looked at Mai and nudged towards Lin. She nodded and they advanced towards him. The older man didn't seem to notice at all though.
"Come along now Lin." Mai chirruped as they started guiding him to the door. "We're busy as I'm sure you are but thanks for stopping by." They quickly closed the door as soon as they'd shoved the Chinese assistant through it. Naru locked it for extra measures too.
"Now, where were we?" Naru asked as he turned back to Mai. Mai smiled sweetly at him while he wrapped his arms around her waist. Then all of a sudden she punched his arm. "OW! What was that for?!" Naru demanded.
"For eating all of that stupid ice cream when I told you not to!" Mai exclaimed. She couldn't help but smile up at him despite her being ticked off that he did it.
"Well it was delicious and it saved space didn't it?" He asked. Mai pressed her lips together.
"Some...but not enough. You know if I get sick or fat from you eating all that ice cream then it's going to be your fault." She warned, poking his chest. Naru grabbed her finger to stop her from poking him again.
"I don't think you can get fat, Mai." He smirked.
"What are you saying?" She asked. Naru tightened his arms around her. Mai just frowned up at him though. She wanted an answer to her question.
"Just what I said, Mai. I've been in your body; you're too skinny for your own good." He continued. Now she was angry. She hit Naru's chest several times as best she could. Naru just grabbed her hand as if it didn't hurt him at all.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"I'm angry at you and am hitting you, what's it look like?" She questioned. He shrugged in a 'fair enough' gesture and released her hand.
"Why are you angry and hitting me though?" Naru couldn't help but ask in confusion.
"Because of your insensitive comment and actions." Mai replied as she resumed hitting his chest which didn't actually bother or hurt Naru at all. Naru blinked, still not getting it. What was so bad about what he said...? He let out a sigh. Even after being in her body for days, he still didn't completely understand her. What was so bad about saying she needed to add a couple pounds? Maybe she thought he didn't like her body the way it was? Of course he did though. He could barely keep himself in check sometimes since they had switched back. The many things he felt like doing to her...but no, it was too soon.
"Mai, I didn't mean what you thought I meant..."
"And what exactly did you mean?" She snapped. Naru paused. How exactly was he supposed to word that without making her get even more upset? He removed one of his arms from around her waist and scratched his head. Mai raised an eyebrow at his actions. He looked clearly stumped as to what to do. Mai sighed and wrapped her own arms around his middle, burying her face into his shirt.
"Forget it." He smiled and let his hand gently drop onto the back of her head so he could stroke his fingers through her hair. They just changed back; they didn't need to start fighting already. "Hmm, that feels nice." Mai hummed. Naru had to agree. He wrapped the arm that wasn't attached to the hand stroking Mai's hair more firmly around her pressing her more firmly to him.
"...You know you should've kissed me a long time ago since it seems that's what changed us back." Mai declared, lifting her head up to grin at Naru.
"Possibly but there was probably more to it than just that."
"Like what?" Naru shrugged. He was sure it wasn't as simple as just kissing Mai but he didn't know what else could have caused them to switch back. He still didn't know why or how they had switched in the first place. He was determined to find out though. Mai sighed. "I guess the important thing is that we did switch back...I just hope it's not temporary."
"I hope it's not too." Naru murmured. "I much like being in my own body...although I did get to see yours." He continued, mumbling the last part so quietly that Mai couldn't understand. Mai frowned as she tried to decipher the last bit of what he said. All she had heard was 'mumble, mumble, mumble.'
"What was that last bit you said?" She asked. Naru kept his hand on her head, adding a little strength to it so she wouldn't be able to lift her head up.
"Nothing." She struggled against his hand and frowned more deeply. Why was he keeping her trapped like this? Was what he actually said really that awful? It seemed like he didn't want her to see his face or something...
That annoyed her, especially after all the preaching he did on not keeping secrets from each other not so long ago.
"Naaaruuuu!" Mai struggled to get out from his hold.
"Yes Mai?"
"What are you doing?! Let me go!"
"But you are the one hugging me." He pointed out, referring to her arms that were still wrapped around him.
"Fine!" Mai quickly released Naru, but he still didn't let her go. "Now who's holding who?" She asked. Naru only hummed in acknowledgement though. "Naru!" She barked irritably and tried to shove him away. What was with him?!
He sighed and let her go. He didn't want to, but she kept being so pushy. She was still scowling at him now.
"What?" He asked innocently.
"You know what." She said.
"No, I'm afraid I don't."
"Naru!" Mai hissed before smacking his shoulder.
"What? You could at least tell me what I've done instead of expecting me to be a mind reader." He snapped. "Geez, women!"
"You were suffocating me and wouldn't let me lift my head up!"
"Well you wouldn't stop pestering me about things I've said."
Mai glared at him. Naru glared right back.
"That's only because you didn't tell me what you had said!" Mai stuck her tongue out at him.
"Because maybe I didn't want to and it was a private thought."
Mai sighed, knowing how she felt when he pressed her when she had a private thought, and rested her hands on her hips. "Fine." She wrapped her arms back around Naru to show him that she wasn't mad anymore and also because she secretly liked it and didn't want to let him go again, ever. Not that she would tell him that as it might scare him away. He might think she's some crazy, obsessed person. If she knew Naru felt the same she wouldn't be worried though. More misunderstandings between the two.
Naru wrapped his own arms around Mai, enjoying the feeling of holding her close to him. He gave her gentle squeeze as he placed his head on top of hers. She squeezed him back and nuzzled her head in his chest.
"...I love you." Mai whispered quietly not saying it for Naru to intentionally hear.
"I love you too Mai." Naru hummed. "Very much." Mai felt her heart skip a beat and she blushed from head to toe. She felt like crying out of sheer joy. Yes, he had said it yesterday that he did, but this time he said it with warmth and happiness in his voice. His words felt like a cozy blanket, warm and safe and protective, like she never wanted to leave in case she never heard them again just like getting out of a bed and not finding the comfy spot when you return to it again.
Mai held on to him tighter and buried her nose in his chest. She inhaled slightly. She always loved the way he smelled. Although most of his scent was tea. It still smelled good though...it was him. She didn't think it would be him if he didn't smell of tea. Mai pulled away slightly to look at him. He had a small smile on his face and he looked like he was lost in his own thoughts about something. She tippy-toed and gave him a gentle, quick kiss. He blinked a few times before his smile widened and he bent down and kissed her back.
When they pulled apart, Mai grabbed one of his hands and tugged on it. She led him to the couch. Naru resumed kissing her in front of the couch as he gently pushed her to sit on it. Knowing that he'd crush her if he sat on her, Naru sat beside her and clutched his hand into her hair. She ran her own fingers through his hair in return. Their kisses were gentle and sweet. There was still a passion to them though. They were filled with love and not lust. After a few minutes they broke away and just cuddled up with each other on the sofa. They had stayed like that for almost the rest of the day. They only got up for food, drink or to go to the bathroom. To put it lightly, they didn't want to do anything except be by each other's side.
When they both started yawning and looked up at the clock they discovered it was time for bed. Mai sighed and rubbed her eyes. She then stretched like a cat and prepared to lift herself off the sofa before stopping. Where exactly should she sleep? Sure they shared a bed when they were switched but that was different, they weren't exactly themselves so Naru might object now they were back to normal again.
As though hearing her silent turmoil Naru made the decision for her by doing something he had always wanted to whilst they were switched and was excited to try out now he was himself again. He slid off the sofa then turned and lifted Mai into his arms before striding off in the direction of his bedroom.
"N-Naru!"
"Yes Mai?"
"W-What are you doing? Put me down!" Mai exclaimed in embarrassment with a deep blush. Naru just shook his head and continued walking. Mai huffed as they entered Naru's bedroom.
"You know that makes you look cuter right?" Naru asked as he gently placed Mai on the bed. He looked at her face just in time to see it ablaze. He lifted an eyebrow and smirked. "So does that." He stated. Mai pouted and turned away from him. He placed a finger under her chin to turn her back to face him. Then Naru kissed her softly on the lips. Mai made a sound of annoyance which then turned into a sigh before she began to kiss him back. She pulled him into the bed with her by his shirt as she did. He pulled her to him and secured her against his body with his arms. Slowly, he began to kiss the side of her neck. She hummed in approval and held onto his shoulders. She gripped them even more when she felt him lightly suck different spots on her neck. She tilted her head back to give him more access.
Every time he kissed and sucked a new spot on her neck she gasped. It was music to Naru's ears especially when she moaned. It spurred him on and made him just a little bolder. He slipped one of his hands under her shirt to feel her hot, smooth skin. He felt her stomach muscles tense under his hand and he wasn't sure if it was because she was ticklish or he had gone too far. He reluctantly stopped kissing her neck and lifted his head up to examine her face to see if her expression said which of the two it was. She definitely looked uncomfortable. He slowly withdrew his hand.
"Mai..." He began. "...I'm sorry. I got carried away." He continued after a moment. He removed his arms from around her and sat up. He hated that he had caused his love to be upset because he got a bit too amorous. He wasn't even thinking right. His mind had been clouded with the hormones and chemicals that create the feeling of lust therefore short-circuiting all rational thought. He really hadn't meant to do that and make Mai feel uncomfortable. He didn't know what to do now. Mai sat up also. She let out a sigh.
"No, I'm sorry...I just wasn't expecting it." She said in almost a whisper.
"No Mai, it's my fault, I was rushing you." Mai rubbed her arms slightly and averted her gaze. Naru looked away from her in return. Mai let out another sigh.
"It's fine, really Naru." She assured him.
"Are you sure?" He asked. Mai nodded as she gave him a small smile. He allowed a small smile to curve his own lips in return.
"Ne, Naru...?"
"Yes Mai?"
"Um...well..." Mai moved and sat directly in front of him. "What...um, are we now?" She asked nervously.
"How do you mean?" Mai bit her lip and began to chew on it. "Mai?"
"W-Well, you know...what are we to each other now? Our relationship towards each other...?"
"Oh, well I thought we'd established we have feelings for each other so we are dating now...right? That is how it goes isn't it?" He questioned. Mai nodded.
"Yeah, I just wanted to make sure..."
"Well then, we're dating now." Naru declared confidently, cutting Mai off. She blushed and gave a small nod. "Is something wrong with that?" He asked after not really getting the reaction he was expecting.
"No! Of course not!" She reassured him, waving her hands back and forth in front of her.
"You just seemed disappointed."
"Disappointed?! No way!" Mai said, staring at him like he was insane.
"It just wasn't the toned down reaction I was expecting. I'd have thought you'd have flung yourself at me squealing." Naru smirked. Mai pressed her lips together.
"Narcissistic jerk..." She muttered.
"Is that not your usual reaction to such things?" He asked.
"No." The woman confirmed.
"I rather think it is."
"Name some situations in which I did." Mai crossed her arms, challenging him.
"Well there was that time when Miss Matsuzaki bought you that dress and when Takigawa gave you a compliment after giving you a guitar lesson not to mention you're always doing it when Madoka shows up, heck I think you even did it to Lin once." Naru listed. Dropping her mouth, Mai smacked Naru's arm.
"I didn't fling myself at them! I hugged them!" She corrected him.
"Same difference to me." Naru muttered.
"Well do you want me to hug you?" Mai asked, raising an eyebrow. He acted like he was the one who was disappointed. Naru gave a non-committal shrug. Mai smirked. "Alright. You don't get one." She stuck her tongue out at him. Naru tried not to let the disappointment show. He actually did want one...
All of a sudden Mai launched herself at him. Naru fell back onto the bed from the unexpected impact. He let out a grunt as he landed with Mai settled on top of him with her arms around him. She grinned up at him.
"I was joking. I will give you a hug any time you like." She said. She squeezed her arms around him more and laid her head on his chest. He wrapped his own arms around her. Mai let out a breath and snuggled more into his chest. "I'm tired..." Naru gave her a squeeze before shifting them into a position where he could cover them with the duvet and they could cuddle up together.
"Goodnight, Mai." He said after he got them situated.
"Night Naru." She yawned. Naru turned slightly to turn off the lamp beside the bed. Mai unconsciously grabbed him tighter. Within minutes she was fast asleep. Naru gently kissed her forehead then joined her in sleep. He hadn't been this happy in such a long time...
