Nick vs the Polar Bear

The snow was heavily falling over the Tundra Town district as Nick the Fox, Finnick the Fennec Fox, Ben the Cheetah and Bogo the Water Buffalo walked through a dense forest. They were on their way to a medical facility to find a cure to what was happening to the animals at the hospital. They had decided to go after it when the team that had left suddenly went missing during an unexpected blizzard came about the district. While Nick walked up to one of the trees to scratch at it to help them find their way back, he was startled when a snowball smacked against the trunk. He looked back with a grin to see Finnick and Ben having some fun as they threw snowballs at each other. While Nick kept moving to another tree, Bogo was right behind the fox. The Water Buffalo had to move out of the way when some of the snowballs landed close to him. Bogo turned to them with a stern look and started to say, "Will the two of you fo-"

He didn't finish when a good-sized snowball smacked against his face and sent him falling back. He landed in the snow with a grunt and left an anthropomorphic Water Buffalo sized impression in the snow. Over with the two, Finnick looked to Ben as he gloated with a big grin, "All right! Right in the kisser!"

"Ha! That was so good!" Ben laughed and the two slapped paws. But before they could celebrate any further, an irritated voice said from ahead, "All right? Which one of you did that?"

They looked to see Bogo sitting up in the snow. But the Water Buffalo didn't look happy as he had his head resting on one hoof while tapping the snow with the other. Finnick quickly rushed behind Ben, peeked around his friend and pointed to the Cheetah, "It was all him, I swear!"

"Me?" Benjamin asked, feeling betrayed. With a shake of his head he defended himself, "No, it was you! No way you're pinning the blame on me for this hustle."

"That's not how a hustle works, Dumby." Finnick shook his head and faced palmed. Then he explained, "I would have to trick you in order to get something out of it.

"That was throwing you under the bus." He clarified. But Ben didn't like it either way, "Well, I'm still not taking it for you."

Bogo just rolled his eyes as the two kept arguing amongst themselves. From ahead, Nick just had a grin while he walked ahead as could hear what was going on. But after a few steps, he stopped when he heard an ominous sound close by. His ears twitched to the sound of something growling. He started looking back as he said, "Uh, guys. I think-"

He gasped when he saw something big moving behind some trees not too far from them. Whatever it was stopped behind them and some snow fell from the branches overhead. Getting a bad feeling not taking his eyes off the trees, the Fox started moving again as he advised, "I think we should keep moving."

"Is that all you're going to say, keep moving?" Bogo asked when he turned to Nick. But the Fox was still moving and the Water Buffalo shook his head with a snort. From behind, Finnick and Benjamin were grabbing a lot of snow into their paws. Glancing back he saw them falling behind and called out to them, "Finnick. Benjamin. Come on. We need to keep moving, let's go."

"I swear, if he keeps saying to keep moving…" Bogo grumbled as he walked behind the Fox. But a large snowball to the back of the head sent him falling face first into the snow. With a growl he lifted his head from the powder and spat some out of his mouth. Sitting up, he started to roll up his sleeves and glared back at the two, "All right! I think it's time for me to kick some butt!"

But neither Finnick nor Ben were in a playful mood as they were shaking in fear of something. The snow in their paws fell in clumps as they continued shaking and they both pointed to something behind the Water Buffalo. But Bogo, thinking he had gotten through to them, crossed his arms and said with a smug look, "Ha! Finally!
"You're stopping because now I'm showing how serious I am." He snorted again to emphasize his point. But as he walked off to catch up with Nick, he bumped into something and had an apologetic look when he said, "Oh, pardon me."

But he grew nervous when he heard a deep growl coming from the other animal. Bogo's eyes widened when he found himself looking into the crazed look of a feral Polar Bear. Bogog's jaw dropped in a terrified, silent gasp. He backed away and fell in the snow when the mad Polar Bear swung its claws at him. From ahead, Nick looked back and gasped when he saw that his friends were in danger. Bogo fumbled around to try and find something to defend him and the other two, but only managed to throw snow the in the feral's face. It only disoriented the ursine for a moment before it roared at them. Finnick and Ben ran to hide behind Bogo when the maddened bear came closer. Dropping down on all fours, Nick ran back to help his friends. He growled when he was close and it drew the bear's attention to him. The mad Polar Bear looked back to see the Fox coming and swatted Nick back with its paw. Nick landed in the snow with a grunt and came to a stop on his side. He looked up with a glare as the Polar Bear turned its sights on the three again. Bogo got onto his feet and tried to punch the bear, but the feral Polar Bear managed to outmaneuver the attack before grabbing onto Bogo. The Water Buffalo yelped as he was raised into the air before it flung at the other two. Finnick and Ben screamed again as Bogo crashed into them and they landed in a heap with the Water Buffalo on top of them. They all looked back and cried out in fright when the Polar Bear came closer. But as it raised its paw to strike at them, it roared in pain as Nick had come back and bit on the bear's ankle. When he released it, Nick looked up to see the bear raising its paw to swat at him. The Fox jumped over the appendage when it crashed against the snow, ran up its arm, landed a kick the ursine's face and tried to jump off its back. But the mad Polar Bear had knocked him higher into the air with is paw. Nick yelled as he came back down and smacked against the bear's face. Both fell down and the bear crashed against the snow and looked up to Nick whose muzzle was against its own. With a swift movement of its arm, the mad Polar Bear pushed Nick off of it and down against the snow. The Polar Bear raised itself up and looked down at the pinned Fox. Nick struggled to get out of the bear's grip, but wasn't enough. The feral Polar Bear pushed Nick deeper and deeper into the snow and it pushed the air out of the Fox's lungs the further he went. Seeing the canine disoriented, the mad Polar Bear raised its free paw to strike the Fox. Seeing Nick in trouble, Bogo got up and yelled as he tried to help. The bear was able to knock the Water Buffalo back with a swift movement of its other paw and sent him crashing into the snow again. The maddened Polar Bear looked to Nick again and was about to try again. But a yell from the side made it look to see a grey and blue blur rush up to it. Judy the Rabbit jumped up from the snow to jump onto the side of its head. She grabbed its ear and pulled pretty hard on it. The Polar Bear roared in pain to this and shook its head to get her off. From where he lay, Nick groggily opened his eyes and said, "Judy?"

The feral Polar Bear managed to knock Judy off of its head by shoving her off with its free paw. The Rabbit flew through the air and tumbling in the snow a bit before stopping on her side. The bear growled before turning its attention back to Nick still pinned by its paw. But before it could even think about attacking, Judy ran up again and jumped she grabbed a hold of its free paw and bit down as hard as she could. Another roar escaped the bear and she landed a pretty hard kick to its face. It was enough to get the bear to stumble back and release its grip on Nick. The Fox laid there for a moment as he tried to regain his breath and senses. Bogo kept himself in front of Ben and Finnick as the bear stumbled around with Judy on its paw. Ben looked to the Water Buffalo and said, "You got to help here."

"Right." He nodded in agreement. But as he moved to go and help her, the bear shoved her off again and she screamed before smacking into Bogo. They both fell down with a grunt and the other two ran up to check on them. The mad Polar Bear however turned its sights back to Nick just as he regained himself. He gasped when he saw it looking at him. The Fox quickly started scooting backwards to get away as the bear approached him. His back hit something and he looked back to see himself against a tree. He got an idea just as the bear roared. Looking back he yelped when the mad Polar Bear dropped down and charged straight at him. From the side, Finnick saw what was about to happen and shouted to his best friend, "Move, Nick! You got to move!"

But Nick didn't as he waited for the right moment. When the bear was close enough, the Fox dived out of the way. The mad Polar Bear crashed hard into the tree while Nick got up to run. But as he tried to get away, Nick accidentally tripped on a root and went over the side of a drop. He screamed as he slid down the hill and took a tumble when he reached the bottom. The Fox slid across some ice before stopping on the edge of a frozen lake. Nick shakily started getting up and a roar made him look up to see the mad Polar Bear coming down the hill for him. Standing up just as the ursine reached the bottom, Nick started walking backwards on the frozen lake. He stopped in shock when his foot broke through and pulled it out before focusing on the mad Polar Bear again. It took a stomp towards him and created many cracks in the ice that spread out through the lake. As it reared up and came for him, Nick tried running away on the ice. The bear growled as it turned to follow him, but another stomp sent a crack the Fox's way. He looked down and followed the crack as it went under him and further out on the lake. Nick looked up with a gasp to see the mad Polar Bear still coming. Up on the hill, Judy, Bogo, Finnick and Ben all came to the edge and shouted, "Nick!"

They watched in fear as the bear came closer to the Fox and raised one of its paws to strike at the Fox. But when it took one step closer, the ice underneath the feral bear broke and it fell through with a roar. The mad Polar Bear tried to climb out of the icy water, but its struggles caused the ice to break more and it sank down into the cold lake. But the troubles didn't end there as the cracks moved away from the hole and towards Nick. They created a circle around the Fox and when the piece started to raise, he jumped to the higher side and scrambled to climb over to jump off. But his grip faltered when the ice started to turn over and he ended up falling into the icy waters. Judy, Bogo, Finnick and Benjamin all raced down the hill to reach their friend as they cried out, "Nick!

"Nick, no!" Judy shouted just as the ice covered the Fox. They all cried in unison, "No!"

But it was too late when the piece settled and everything on the frozen lake was still. Both Judy and Zazu stopped on the shore of the frozen lake and looked to the spot where they last saw Nick. Their heads snapped to the side when they heard Ben shout, "Geronimo!"

"Make way!" Finnick added when they jumped in. They broke through the ice and sank down into the depths. Down below, both Finnick and Benjamin flailed about before being able to swim better. On the surface, Judy rushed over to the hole and shouted, "Finnick! Ben!"

"I hope they took adequate swimming lessons." Bogo commented as the ice around him continued to crack. Judy just looked up from the hole and sent him a deadpanned look.

Down below the water, Finnick and Benjamin were swimming through the freezing water. Well, the Fennec Fox was swimming while the Cheetah had lost his balance and was now tumbling along the current. But Finnick was able to keep himself steady himself and caught his friend when he saw something ahead. Finnick managed to grab his friend before looking to his left, but was shocked to see which end he was holding. Rolling his eyes from this, the Fennec Fox kicked Benjamin's rear end to righten him, bonked him on the head and pointed ahead of them. Ben looked ahead and they were seeing Nick upside down holding onto the ice and was trying to break through. While holding on with most of his claws, the Fox was trying to suck air through the frozen substance even though it wasn't going very well for him.

Up on the surface of the frozen lake, Judy ran over to the spot when she heard the sounds. Brushing away the snow with her paw, the Rabbit found the Fox underneath her and sounded really scared when she shouted, "He's drowning!"

But before she could try to help him, Nick was pulled away by the current. Judy worriedly shook her head, "No!"

While she moved more snow out of the way to try and find the boys, Bogo had stuck his head into the cold waters to try and find them himself. With a groan Judy came running to the Water Buffalo and asked, "Well?"

Snow started to fall around them when Bogo brought his head up and it was comically covered in icicles. With a big sneeze they blasted off of him and went in many directions. He shook his head to clear it and looked about, "I'm not seeing them anywhere."

Both the Rabbit and the Water Buffalo looked around the frozen lake to see any signs of their friends. They moved away from the ice and Judy worriedly asked, "Oh, where could they be?"

Bogo didn't have an answer for that as he started to rub the back of his head. But just as they were starting to fear the worst, the sound of cracking came to their ears. They both look back to see all three break through the ice. Finnick and Benjamin worked together to drag an unconscious Nick from the cold waters and quickly moved for the shore. Both Judy and Bogo were very happy to see them all as Judy shouted, "Guys!"

"Boys!" Bogo shouted with a big grin as they rushed over. Since he was a bigger animal, Bogo managed to make it to the shore. Benjamin had set Nick lying down on a log on his belly and set to work getting the water out of him. Behind the two, Finnick shook the water out of his fur. He fluffed up a bit when he commented, "Ooh! That was cold!"

"How is he?" Bogo asked about the Fox when he came up to the Cheetah. But Benjamin shook his head and looked to the Water Buffalo, "Won't really know till he coughs up the water he swallowed."

"Here, let me try some-" Bogo started to say before he tripped over a root. He ended up falling against Benjamin and Benjamin accidentally fell onto top of Nick. It was enough to force Nick to spit the water out in a comical way. Finnick shoved Benjamin off of Nick and the Cheetah fell into Bogo's hooves. They watched as the smaller caninne lightly slapped the bigger one's face and pleaded, "Come on, Nick. Stay with us! Breathe, man!"

"Sure, slapping him is going to make him do just that." Bogo sarcastically commented with an eye roll. Finnick looked to him with an unamused look and they were all startled when Nick started coughing. Finnick hugged his face when he said, "Don't scare us like that, bud.

"Gave us all heart attacks." He said and placed a paw over his heart to emphasize his point. Nick sat up on the log and coughed a bit before saying, "Guys…"

He was distracted when he coughed again. Carefully stepping off the log he placed his back against it and said, "I know that you all thought that this was a crazy trip…"

A smile formed on his face as he shivered a bit, "But I'm glad that you came anyway."

"Who else were you gonna bring? Gazelle?" Bogo sarcastically said with a grin. But a small tap from Ben made the Water Buffalo look to the Cheetah and he said, "Don't joke about celebrities like her around me."

"Oh, for the love of animal kind, Benjamin." Bogo rolled his eyes. Judy walked up to them and both she and Nick looked to each other as they asked at the same time, "Are you okay-"

"Ju-" Nick tried to say and they laughed a little. Judy nodded him with an assuring nod, "I'm fine, Nick."

"That's good." Nick said, really glad that she was okay. He shivered again from being greatly cold, and his wet clothes weren't helping much either. Judy knelt down beside the Fox and pulled him into a hug to share her body heat. While he was a little startled by it, Nick didn't fight it as he held onto the bunny. Judy then told him, "Look, I've got some troubling news. We have to take the back roads to the facility."

"But if we go through the pass at the end of this forest, it'll save us a bit of travel." Nick said before shivering in her arms. Judy shook her head, "It's blocked by a major avalanche. No one's able to get through, foot or vehicle.

"It'll be dangerous, but we'll get by." Judy said, determined to help the sick. Nick grinned as he said, "I'm starting to think that there's nothing you can't do."

Judy smiled in appreciation to this while the three smiled at them from the side. When he seemed to warm up a good deal, Judy relaxed her grip and leaned back to look the Fox in the eyes. Nick placed a paw on her cheek and she in turn placed her own over his. She then said, "I thought I almost lost you there."

"I'm sorry for worrying you." Nick apologized to her with a small grin. She gave him a punch harder than she meant to when she said, "You sure did, Slick."

"Ow." Nick grimaced and rubbed the sore spot. From the side, Bogo, Benjamin and Finnick all looked to each other with surprised looks before glancing away. Seeing her mistake, Judy tried to fix it by saying, "Sorry. I wasn't meaning to do it too hard."

"Heck of a swing, I'll give you that." Nick chuckled. Judy shook her head, "Still I-"

But Nick was quick to shut the Rabbit up by placing his paws on her cheeks and sealed her mouth shut with a kiss to the lips. The move caught her completely off guard, but her eyes closed as they held each other close.

Author's Note: Much bigger than my other versions of this one shot. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. I'm still a big fan of Nick and Judy getting together and I have to say that Zootopia+ wasn't all that bad. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
