Two years, eleven months later
Downtown Tokyo was thriving on a Friday afternoon. The sun was shining, a welcoming breeze blew through the September day as people bustled through. Some hurrying home from work, teenagers just getting out of school chattering and wandering around, as elementary students ran around chasing each other. A normal beautiful, picturesque day.
A burgundy Nissan Rouge roared through the streets, bobbing through traffic doing a sound thirty miles over the speed limit.
Bicyclists jumped onto curbs as the SUV raced through the streets. Pedestrians ran to escape the metal contraptions or gaped as the scene played out.
Following the crazed car were three black similar cars, clearly chasing the lead vehicle. A mother screamed and pulled her son out of the way as one of the trailing cars went flying around a turn, nearly hitting a lamp post.
The black haired seventeen year old driving the burgundy car would have found the whole scene amusing if she wasn't trying to escape the three drivers on her tail.
She whipped around another turn, racing down a stereotypical alleyway. Her car just barely fit and the girl prayed it wouldn't be scratched at all, but her determination won out over her love of her car.
Kagome bit her lip in determination, risking a glance in her rear view mirror. Relief rushed over her when she saw no one following her, but that meant she either lost them or ...
She slammed on the breaks as one of the black cars flew out in front of her. Throwing it in reverse, the teenager hovered over the gas pedal only to curse as another black car placed itself strategically behind her. A quick glance confirmed the last vehicle was on her left, leaving a brick wall on her right.
Her mind raced as she contemplated just bolting from the car, but the odds weren't in her favor as a bulky figure in a black turtle neck and black jeans appeared in her right side mirror.
Boy, was she going to hear it today.
"Boy, is that girl going to hear it today!"
Jet black hair in a high ponytail swished back and forth as the young woman stomped down the hallway. The sound of her heels hitting the floor tiles was a small victory before she threw open the conference room door.
The obnoxiously loud slam that followed was also a victory as five generously muscled men winced and turned to face their boss reluctantly.
Scanning the uniformly clad black turtleneck and jeans group, light brown eyes framed by magenta eyeshadow landed on one bodyguard in particular.
Purple eyes seemed to twinkle even as hers narrowed. "Ah, Sango, what a pleasure to see you as always."
The other four men shifted uncomfortably as the girl remained silent with a death glare still in place. They marveled at the courage - or was it just stupidity - of their unofficial leader approached the fuming beauty.
He clasped her hands in his, kissing them. " I trust you are enjoying yourself on this wonderful afternoon. You work too hard, maybe you should take some time off..."
Her right eye twitched even as a blush rose to her face.
"Miroku..." she ground out.
"Yes, my sweet?" His eyes shone brightly as he met her gaze. Poor sucker.
The men cringed before shaking their heads as Miroku was clobbered to the ground.
Sango trembled with anger as the man fell to the ground twitching, her fist still shaking.
"Can someone please tell me why Kagome escaped three of the highest trained bodyguards and caused a huge commotion in Downtown Tokyo, drawing all sorts of unwanted attention and PAPERWORK? MAINLY FOR ME!" She roared.
Her audience stuttered to answer.
"W-well, you see..."
"They were in the mall..."
"And she went to the bathroom..."
"But escaped to the parking garage..."
"And by the time Hiten called it in..."
"It was too late..."
"And she drives that thing like its a video game, ma'am, I mean, have you seen her?"
"Oh man, I know, she kicks my ass in Grand Theft Auto!"
"Yeah, and she knows all the cheats!"
"I knew she used codes!"
Sango's eyebrows twitched. "SHUT UP, YOU SIMPLETONS!"
Her voice echoed through the room, successfully bringing the men - she scoffed - back to the present.
The twenty year old sighed, her hand pressing on the bridge of her nose. She flopped down in the nearest office chair, signaling for them all to do the same.
They did so reluctantly, with two helping the slightly dazed Miroku into a chair. Sango flung the files in her hand on the table.
Instinctively grabbing the folders as they spun to a stop, Miroku browsed through them quickly.
"Who are these people?"
"Hiten and Maten are fired upon their return."
All heads snapped up.
A man with brown hair daringly spoke up. "What about Kaoru?"
"He emailed his resignation letter. Apparently, our not-going-to-make-eighteen-year-old charge kicked him in .. well, let's just say kids might be a far off thing for Kaoru."
Sympathetic groans and thoughts responded all around. With a sigh, their boss faced Miroku. "These men are their replacements. Read the file. Train them. They come in tomorrow, six sharp."
He blinked intelligently at her, before gazing back down at the names printed in black ink. The gears turned in his head as one stood out.
"Hey, isn't this..?"
"You know it."
Miroku groaned internally. Tomorrow, the peace between the two of the main protection units would end in headquarters. The first man, Hojo Ueda, was unknown but the other two names he knew very well. They both hated each other and one was the brother - half-brother, you damn monk, he could practically hear his old friends growl now - of the head sword master employed.
He sighed. Tomorrow, Koga Ookami and Inuyasha Takashi would reunite and be forced to work together. And he would have to train them. While keeping the two dog demons from killing each other.
Boy, was Kagome going to hear it from him today.
