After months of searching, they had finally found Valmont. Jackie remembered the last time he saw the former crime lord of the Dark Hand. During the Armageddon created by Drago, he saw him as a bus driver, and when he tried talking to him, he just covered his face and left without saying a word. Perhaps that after all he went through leading him to poverty, Valmont wanted nothing to do with Jackie.
Once the Armageddon cleared, the archeologist suggested leading a search party for him. After rebuilding Section 13, Captain Black agreed to do so. He wanted to check up on how his former fugitive was going in life so far since they barely saw each other more than before. Not even Uncle's locator spells had helped in finding him. The former Enforcers Finn, Ratso, Chow, and Hak Foo were even worried about him. They even wanted to talk to him like how they used to and see if both sides were starting to work in honesty instead of committing crimes.
Good news, they finally found Valmont. Bad news, he died. Everyone, friend or foe, wondered what happened after his disappearance and before his death. The doctors of Section 13 determined that he died on the following months after Drago was defeated. Whether he committed suicide or not, his cause of death is yet to be determined. A week after the discovery, a small funeral was held in a cemetery of San Francisco. Its audience consisted of Finn, Ratso, Chow, Hak Foo, Captain Black, and the Chan Clan. They looked at the gravestone where the former crime lord was buried in.
Valmont
Riches to rags
1958 - 2006
"Any of you wish to say anything? I knew him a long time already, but I don't know what to say when he wasn't a rich crime boss anymore," Black said.
"I'll go first," Finn started. "Valmont, or Big V as what I sometimes called him as, was one of the greatest people I worked with. Sure he wasn't the kind to tolerate failure, but at least he treated me, Ratso, and Chow fairly unlike the other bosses we had to work with such as Shendu, Daolon Wong, and Drago. One time, we quit working for him, so that we wouldn't have to deal with Jackie anymore and look how that turned out. We stayed at Valmont's side because this was the only way we could get paid, and we wished to be equals with him. Even if that never happened since Jackie destroyed the talismans which was our leverage, Big V was honest in treating us like equals. He even cared to come for us when Daolon Wong turned us into his Dark Chi Warriors without even saying our correct names. I shall never forget this."
"Even if we no longer work for him, he came through for him. My knowledge of pop culture really made him laugh just to help him stay positive when Jackie always foiled our schemes in making all of us become rich. I'll miss his laugh forever," Ratso said solemnly.
"He was a fun guy to work with. Of all the bosses outside the supernatural, he was a great guy even if we got punished for failing in doing our jobs. Stay strong wherever you are now, boss," Chow said in the same manner.
"I only knew him at one point, but I became an Enforcer the day Tohru left the Dark Hand. I may not be around much after the organization was no more, but I stayed loyal to him to the very end. I'm... going to miss you," Hak Foo held his tears back seconds before he couldn't anymore. That was the first time everyone saw a soft side of him.
"Before I quit working for the Dark Hand, Valmont treated me well. I often give the Enforcers bear hugs for their failures. He forced me to fight Shendu after that dragon double-crossed us, and that was where my loyalties shifted to the Chan Clan. I wasn't even happy of teaming up with him again after that stunt during the night he wanted us to exorcise Shendu from inside him. Now that he's gone, I don't know what to say. All I could say was that despite working in opposite sides, I held great respect for him, and he did the same. I shall never forget that," Tohru spoke next.
"When I learned that my boy was working for him, I was happy. Every day, he kept messaging me of how Mr. Valmont was treating him, and it was all nice. I didn't even know he was a crime boss until I learned about his death. I was mad at him, trying to turn my son into a criminal, but what was the point of being angry with him when he's already gone? I wish I could have stopped Tohru from going down the dark path, but his newfound friends helped him in finding his way again. At least Mr. Valmont did something good, even if he didn't know about it," his mother spoke her eulogy, and even Uncle cried at that. One of the rare moments he showed sympathy towards her.
Jackie and Jade looked at Uncle as if he should make his eulogy next.
"As much as Uncle wants to, I don't know what to say of him. He's the only one I couldn't hit him with my two fingers because I missed every chance I got," the old man commented.
"I should do it next," Jade suggested. "Valmont was nothing but a big pain in the butt. He kidnapped me at some points just to get the talismans for Shendu. Also, I remembered one time where we share the cat curse after a cat statue scratched us. That was the moment I did good in fighting him. I never forgot the time where he was turned into a kid by Daolon Wong. He was acting like a brat, and his arrest after turning him back taught me a lesson not to grow up quickly. In a way, he earned my respect. Farewell," she concluded her eulogy.
"When I first met him, he was exactly as what Captain Black told me about him: a criminal. I got a taste to know that he was no mere crime lord when I fought him in martial arts at Mount Rushmore. With his alliance with Shendu, I understood how Captain Black found him as the most wanted man in the world. At least he kept on fighting shape even after his wealth seemed to have complications. The last time I saw him, he was a bus driver. When I tried talking to him, he left without saying a word as if he knew the kind of that person I was: someone who repeatedly stopped him from getting more money. For that, I am truly sorry, Valmont. Even if you pay for those acts, I'm sorry. In a way, you've become a worthy adversary and a great ally. I hope you become a free man in death. Goodbye," Jackie said his eulogy last.
It's indeed a sad day for those who knew the crime lord well. Just as everyone left the gravestone, Finn briefly stayed to put his hand on the top of it as if to give his former boss a form of comfort.
"You can rest easy now, Big V," he said solemnly before walking away with Ratso and Chow waiting for him.
Author's Note: You heard the tragic news, right? Julian Sands, the guy who voiced Valmont, had passed away after being missing for six months. He died on the day he disappeared: January 13, 2023. That was nine days after his birthday, so he died at the age of 65. May he rest in peace.
