Sydney and Pohatu stepped out of the transport chute. The girl gripped her knees.
"I… never… want to use those… again!" She exclaimed, eyes wide and shaking.
"I agree with you, sister." Pohatu said as he held his stomach and his mask showed him to be slightly pale. "Give me running any old day." Sydney recovered quicker than the Toa of Stone, and they quickly moved into Po-Metru. Pohatu chuckled as the teen's growing curiosity got the best of her and she trying to get a better look of the brighter part of Metru-Nui.
"Toa Pohatu!" A voice shouted out. The two Toa turned to see a trio of Po-Matoran running up to them. Among them was Hewkii.
"Oh! Hello there." Sydney said politely and nodded to them. Pohatu recognized the lead Matoran, and raised his arm to greet him.
"Ah, Hewkii! How's the reconstruction been?" Pohatu asked him, kneeling so he was eye level with the Matoran.
"We're actually making headway!" Hewkii responded. "At the rate we're going, we should be done in about two months or so." He then noticed Sydney, who was still in her Toa form, and bowed politely with the other two following his example.. "Another Toa? It's a pleasure to you, Toa…"
"Sydney, and there's no need to be all formal." Sydney said nervously, rubbing the back of her head.
"Nonsense! It's always an honor to meet a new Toa." Hewkii said, then turned to Pohatu with a confused look on his face. "Toa Pohatu, if you don't mind me asking, but why didn't Turaga Onewa tell us about this earlier?" Both the Psonic Toa and Stone Toa flinched. Pohatu grit his teeth, unsure of how to tell what happened to Onewa. Hewkii noticed the look, and asked tentatively, "Toa Pohatu, Toa Sydney, is something wrong with Turaga Onewa?"
"Um…. Ah…. Makuta…. He, had a friend…. and his friend…" Sydney stopped, and tilted her head. "Another Toa is near by…." She started to look around, looking confused. She's like a mental radar, Pohatu thought, standing up.
"Lead the way, sister."
Onewa groaned and sat up. He hadn't been this sore since when he turned into a Toa. Then he snapped his eyes wide open and looked around frantically. He remembered this kid had entered the meeting that Vakama had called them all in for. Following that, he remembered Nokama asking the human if he needed anything. Then, he shot her with a disk, and proceed to do so with the rest of them. After that… nothing. Onewa rubbed his head, trying to remember what had happened after that when he felt his mask curve around his head, which was like back when he was...
"No way." He gasped, suddenly realising that his voice had changed, not the slow tone as a Turaga. Scrambling to his feet, he realized that he was now much taller than he usually was. Onewa started to panic. He needed to see. Quickly taking in the room that he was in, a door to his right. Onewa lunged for it. Just as opened it, he ran into something, causing whoever it was to stumble and fall backwards. Thinking that it was whoever had captured him, Onewa struck out and hit the person in the mask, causing for them to fall over from the pain.
"OW!" A female voice sounded, grabbing the general area of the nose.
"Onewa! You're alright!" The Toa Metru looked to his left and saw Pohatu jogging toward him. "Sydney, what did I say 'bout going ahead like that?"
"Pohatu?" Onewa asked as he stepped out of the room and shielded his eyes at the sudden change in light. "Did you become smaller?" There was an awkward pause.
"... No… And may I say that you look very nice as a Toa?" Pohatu asked.
"... What?" Onewa noticed a piece of metal embedded in the wall, and ran over to it and examined the reflection shown in it. What the Toa Nuva of Stone said was true. Onewa was a Toa again. "...Where… where are the others?" Onewa gulped, taking in his sudden change.
"I do not know, Tura… Toa Onewa." Pohatu said, "But the other Toa are looking for them as we speak."
"Ow… is my nose bleeding?" Asked the female that Onewa had hit. "I think it is." Onewa looked back at the two, wondering why the strange things usually happened to him and his team. He examined the second Toa for a few seconds, then realized that this was the human the Toa Nuva and Vakama was talking about. Tahu wasn't exaggerating of how small she was. He thought, kneeling down to check her nose.
"Are you alright, little one?" He asked her. She nodded, pulling her hands from her nose, which started to twitch.
"Ah-ah-ACHOO!" The sneeze was so sudden that Onewa leaned away, taken back at the sound. "How can you guys live here? It's so dusty!" The teen said, sniffing and making a face. Pohatu laughed, then turned to Onewa.
"Let's go, Onewa, we're getting back to the Coliseum." Onewa nodded, then the three started to walk back.
"Wait…. I gotta bad feeling about Lewa and Mark… Should we check on them?" Sydney asked meekly, looking worried at the Toa Nuva of Stone.
"You may have a point." Pohatu said, then turned to Onewa. ""Would you mind if we took a detour, Toa Onewa?" Onewa thought about it for a few seconds, then nodded. "If Sydney's feeling is right, then that most likely means that Matau is in danger, too." Sydney giggled.
"He can be an airhead, sometimes." The girl said, giggling and started to skip towards the chute station. Onewa looked at Pohatu confused.
"Sheee…. does that sometimes.. You might get used to it." Pohatu assured him.
Jessica looked in awe at the Great Temple. The temple towered over both the rest of the Metru and the two Toa as the neared the entrance.
"It's…. it's so big." Jessica said to Gali, who smiled at Jessica's reaction to the temple.
"It was here before the Turaga Metru became Toa themselves." Gali told the Toa of Time. Jessie looked at Gali surprised.
"Really? And from what you've told me, this was thousands of years ago?" Gali nodded. Jessie looked back at the temple, seeing some things that looked like that had broken off, but was fixed. Jessica decided not to ask about that, and followed the Toa Nuva of Water inside. But her curiosity grew as she saw more and more cracks that weren't fully mended, and what looked like scorched stone.
"Gali, what happened here?" She blurted. Gali froze, then looked back at Jessica.
"I guess…. It's a long story. Vakama might tell it one day." Gali said, looking at the scorch marks. Jessica frowned, and continued forward. Once Jessica was out of hearing range, Gali sighed. "Sometimes…. I wonder why the beast is wild in some of us."
Jessica walked around, touching the glyphs on the wall. For some reason, she felt content here, it was peaceful. A sudden sound put her on alert. Someone was here.
Nokama moaned as she began to regain consciousness. It felt like a Kikanalo rammed her in the stomach. All she could remember was a human pulling out a launcher and shooting her with a disk. Nokama opened her eyes, seeing the Toa Suva at her left. The place brought back memories of becoming a Toa. Sudden hisses filled the room around Nokama, causing her to stiffen. Slowly turning around, she found herself face to face with a sleeping serpentine face only inches from her own and several heads close to it. A doom viper, Nokama thought, slowly getting up and moving slowly away from it. One sound and it would be over for her. A light gasp sounded on the stairway, causing Nokama to flinch. Looking in that direction, she saw a red and white Toa, staring wide eyed at her and the viper. Quickly, she gestured to the sleeping beast, and shook her head, as if to say; "Don't make a sound, you'll wake it up." The red and white Toa nodded, and began to back up when she slipped.
"Oh shit!" She yelped. There was movement, and Nokama whirled around to see the Doom Viper was now awake. All six heads were focused on her, preparing to strike. Nokama leaped out of the way just in time. The doom viper reared back, then struck forward with two of the heads letting out a toxic breath. Nokama gagged slightly, realized how foul it smelled. She knew that she couldn't breath much, if not any of its toxic breath. Noticing what Nokama was doing, the other Toa covered her mouth with her left hand, then waved Nokama over. Nokama quickly raced over to her.
"Well… that was brilliant." Nokama said, looking over her shoulder to see the viper following her.
"This way!" She said, then began running down the hallway with the Toa right next to her and the doom viper chasing them both. Nokama and the red Toa tried to make a lead form the deadly snake, but it was quickly catching up. Growling, the other Toa whirled around, suddenly wielding two thin swords. "Keep going down the hall! Another Toa should still be down there! I'll hold this fucker off!" She said, standing head on with the six headed snake. Nokama didn't argue with her, and continued to run.
Gali heard the sound of someone running. Turning her head, she saw another Toa of Water slowly stopping, looking back as if to check something.
"Sister, are you all-" Gali suddenly recognized the Great Mask of Translation. "Nokama?!" Nokama looked at Gali, noting that she and the Toa Nuva were the same height.
"Gali, another Toa… She's fighting a Doom Viper!" Nokama managed to get out. A roar was heard further into the temple, and the few Ga-Matoran in the area began running away from where the sound had come from. Gali's eyes narrowed. Reckless that girl, if not to mention hot headed. She thought, dashing down the hall to assist Jessica.
Things weren't going as Jessica had planned. The snake clearly had the advantage with its breath, but she refused to give up. The same build up of power was happening again. It was either release it, or die. Acting quickly, and hoping that she didn't kill herself doing this, She slashed at its tail, releasing the power through one of the swords that she held. The snake let out a screech as a thick layer of ice began to grow on its back. Jessica's eyes widened, knowing that this wasn't possible, she controlled Time, not Ice! Then it hit her, she looked up to see that the ceiling was dripping water. Smiling now, she used this to her advantage. Now using offensive tactics, Jessica started to attack the forming ice, causing it to spread onto the deadly snake. The snake hissed at her as ice began to cover its lower heads.
"How do ya like that? Huh, you like that?!" She shouted, dodging its tail. Soon, thick ice covered its whole body, with only one head not covered. It hissed and spat at the Toa of Time. "Whatever, snake face. Goodnight." She said, tapping the ice close to its head, covering the open mouthed head. Jessica sighed, thankful that it was over, and then heard the sounds of someone coming toward her. Turning around, Jessica saw Gali and the other Water Toa close behind her. "Hi, Gali. Guess this guy won't be getting out of this for a while." She said, pointing at the frozen viper." Gali's eyes widened at the frozen creature.
"Jessica, that Doom Viper could have killed you." Gali exclaimed softly, staring at it. The Time Toa shrugged.
"It could've, but it didn't. And….. Is that The Toa Metru of Water?" Jessica asked, studying the other Water Toa. Gali nodded, and gestured for her to follow. "And…. Before we go back to the Coliseum, I think we should check on Lewa and Amanda, cause I have a feeling with those two around. Trouble is bound to happen. And if the Toa Metru of Air is the same way…" Jessica started, following the older Toa.
Lewa did a back-flip as he launched out of the chute, then landed on his feet. Mark, Amanda and Takanuva either landed on their backside, or just about lost their balance coming out of the chute.
"Let's do it again!" Amanda cried, jumping up and bouncing around. Takanuva looked at Amanda, and Mark groaned.
"I officially hate using those." Mark said, getting up from his place on the ground and brushing himself off.
"It wasn't that awful-bad, brother Mark!" Lewa exclaimed, then ran over to the next chute. "In fact, I feel as though I could chute-ride a dozen more times! Who's with me?!" Amanda was the only one who raised her hand. Mark glared at Lewa.
"What about Turaga Matau?" He asked, and Takanuva nodded, not wanting to ride the chute anymore than he had too. Lewa frowned, but he led the way through the busy streets of Le-Metru.
"So, Lewa," Mark asked the Toa of Air as the group rounded around a corner. "Do you have an idea as to where Matau is?"
"Yeah… But I doubt-think you'd like enjoy…" Lewa answered, wincing slightly. Three sets of eyes looked at him.
"And that is, brother?" Takanuva asked. Lewa sighed, then looked at the rest of the group.
"Let's just say that we were a bit late-knowing that some of Roodaka's troops never left…" Takanuva and Mark flinched.
"Vi-visorak!?" Mark said, eyes wide. Amanda looked curiously at them.
"Whats a 'Visorak'?" Amanda asked innocently, looking confused.
"You don't want to know kid…. You don't wanna know." Mark said, looking scared.
Matau hated the situation that he was in right now. He didn't mean to fall into a nest of Keelerak Visorak. Not to mention that in his days as a Toa, they were the ones who mutated him into Toa Hordika. An acidic Rhotuka shot past his head. He remembered waking up dazed and very confused. When he realised that he was a Toa again, he'd fallen into the nest. The green Visorak clanked their pincers at him, sickly green venom dripping from them. Mata shuddered, he didn't want to think about what would happen if he got caught. This is a dark-luck ugly-bad day. He thought grimly, barely avoiding another fully charged Rhotuka. Suddenly, another one that was flying towards him suddenly exploded. The Visorak and the Toa Metru of Air looked confused, wondering what caused such a phenomenon. More Visorak started to screech as bolts of lightning struck the ground around them, forcing the monsters back. Matau looked up to see a small group of Toa, no more than four, drop down and attack the confused monsters.
"Tur- ahh… 'Toa 'Matau', are you right-fine?" asked the light blue and white Toa asked him. Matau gaped at the female Toa, whom was flanked by 3 others. One he'd never seen before, and the Toa Nuva. Matau could only nod. She grinned lightly, then turned to the Visorak, who were glaring warily at the newcomers.
"Ok Lewa. What now?" Asked the grey and burnt orange Toa. Lewa looked at them.
"We quick-run." Everyone looked at the Toa Nuva of Air. "What?"
"Lewa… that is a bad-terrible plan." Matau said before Takanuva could say anything. The female nodded, then pointed. "Ahh…. those are the 'Visorak'... they're not that ba-!" Before she could finish, a Rhotuka barely missed her and continued to cut right through a wall. "Nevermind!" She squeaked, ducking low. Matau looked at her.
"New at being a Toa-hero?" He asked her, and seeing her nod he chuckled. "We all were at some point."
"There's time for past-thinking later!" Lewa said as he shot a ball of air at the oncoming horde, causing for the Visorak to fly backwards. Matau took the small Toa's hand and brought her up and nodded.
"Time for a fast-quick lesson, kid. Watch-see and quick-learn!" Matau told her, now wielding his aero slicers, and attacked the nearest Visorak. Takanuva and the Iron Toa (he presumed) attacked a Visorak that had came too close for comfort. Matau was holding out pretty good…. or so he thought. As he raised his aero slicer up to strike another Visorak, he felt a searing pain come from the center of his back. Matau's eyes widened, the sudden realization hit him like a running into the side of a Tahtorak. He had been bitten. Stumbling to the side, he felt the Visorak's venom coursing through him. The two Keelerak advanced towards him, clicking in glee as they watched the Toa Metru of Air writhe in pain. But their victory was short, a sudden blast of energy and what felt like time shifting slightly, the two monsters were now dust and ashes. Battle cries filled the air, and more Toa arrived and pushed the Visorak back. Four of them he already knew, but the blue and gold spear wielding Toa and the red and white sword wielding Toa where completely new to him. Nokama and Gali teamed up with the blue and gold Toa and forced back the Keelerak on the right along with Takanuva and the other male Toa. Pohatu and Onewa took the right with the red and white Toa and began fighting against the smaller, but just as deadly, Roporak colony with Lewa and the female he met before. Soon, both colonies were driven away, the dead Visorak left behind. The others caught their breath, while Onewa looked at Matau and grinned.
"Hey Matau, look." He gave the small blue and gold Toa a noogie. "Midget Toa." The female broke out of his grip and gave him a look.
"It's not my fault I'm short….." She muttered, then her eyes widened as Matau's expression became more pained. "Matau! What's wrong?!" She exclaimed, dropping her spear and coming to his side. Matau attempted to say something, but all he got out was a grunt of pain. Panting and now sliding down the wall he was leaning on, he managed to whisper , "...visorak", and then he curled into a fetal position as pain surged through his body. Screams sounded, and Onewa's panicked voice told the ones who screamed to not look. Matau couldn't feel anything other than pain, but he knew what was happening to him.
"Everyone, we need to get him back to the Coliseum and the Rahaga, NOW" Nokama ordered as she ran to her brother's side. Onewa and Pohatu came forward and helped her lift Matau onto a slab of stone they raised from the ground earlier.. Matau shrugged them off.
"No… I…. I can foot-walk…. give me a minute…." He said. Looking up, he saw three horrified faces of humans, clearly shaking. One with blue and gold markings seemed to be shaking the worst, and trying to hold back tears. Without warning, she ran up to him and hugged around the stomach. Soft sounds of crying came seconds later. Matau blinked, and looked to the others for help. Gali went over to the crying girl and gently unwrapped her arms from around him.
"It's ok Sydney, we're going to get him help, don't you worry.." She murmured, and gestured for the other two humans to follow. Nokama watched the Toa Nuva of Water lead the humans out of the nest.
"Matau?" Nokama said, seeing that his expression hadn't changed after the girl had hugged him. Looking closer, she realized that he was now asleep. Nokama shook her head, and again helped the two Toa of Stone put him on the stone slab.
