I looked over at the three Toa groups, studying them. From what I had gathered from Gali and Sydney, the Toa Metru were Matoran before they became Toa. The Toa Nuva where the Toa Mata before the energized protodermis, before Takanuva became a Toa. We already knew our story, but it was kind of fun to tell them it to them. But Mark had to stop Jessica from explaining a certain… part of life for us. Sydney was telling Vakama and Whenua about some of our homes history and arts. Amanda was exchanging jokes and stories with Matau and Lewa, who laughed at some of them. Onewa and Pohatu seemed to enjoy what Emilee was talking about (whatever it was I don't know, sports I think), and Nuju and Kopaka spoke with Mark. Nokama and Gali were also talking, but quietly to each other. I sat next to Onua and Takanuva, who was talking with Michael. It was interesting to hear the different personalities of the elder Toa. Onua turned to me and spoke.
"So, what's your story Kasey?" I blinked at his question, then shrugged.
"Well…. I guess you could say I knew Syd since 5th grade… Then we met the others upon reaching middle school. We stuck together all the way to high school, which I think is better than most kids." I started, smiling lightly. Onua nodded, understandingly.
"Friends are important, that's for sure." He said, giving me a sharp pat on the back. Note to self…. be prepared for Onua's back pats… I thought, gulping down a breath of air. Suddenly, Sydney started giggling. I looked over at her. What the, did she say something funny?
"Syd, do I dare ask what's so funny?" Emilee asked. Amanda, Lewa and Matau looked up at the psychic. Sydney leaned over and whispered it into her ear, which Amanda then snorted at and started laughing. "What's so funny!?" Emilee demand, looking frustrated and confused.
"I just hope it isn't like what she said last time during freshmen year…" I muttered, shaking my head. Michael furrowed his eyebrows.
"What'd she say?"
"It might be best if Jessica explained it." I told him. "But it was pretty funny, even though it was nasty." Tahu really looked annoyed at the two girls, giving a look that said, 'explain, now.'
"Redbull!" Amanda barked, and I swear everyone's eyebrows raised. "It gives you rabies!" That only put the two into more hysterical laughter. I snorted, Matau started laughing(I have a feeling that he has no idea what Redbull even was, but decided to laugh along), Lewa struggled to not laugh. Onua and Pohatu snorted and chuckled, Jessica nearly choked on her drink, Michael grinned and snickered. Everyone else just looked blankly at the trio. Jessica was the first one to really recover from her incident.
"How the hell, does Redbull, give you rabies?!" She demanded. Amanda only shrugged, giggling madly, and Sydney recovered enough to say;
"I have no clue." She said, and went back to laughing. I snorted in laughter again.
"The question is, how do you come up with this stuff?" I asked her, knowing that the two were both up in laughing. Tahu rolled his eyes and grabbed what looked like a type of beef jerky. Food was laid out before us, so while we were talking, we could grab a fruit, vegetable, or meat off the plates. I picked up what the Toa of fire had grabbed and studied it. It looked pretty good, but taking a bit out of it proved to be a mistake. "Ahahhhahh! Hot!" I started, swallowing the spicey food. Whenua snorted, and passed me some water.
"Yeah, might be best if you stay away from those." He chuckled as I gulped down the water. Jessica shrugged, eating the jerky.
"It's not that bad, really, just a little spicy." She quipped, popping the rest of the jerky into her mouth. Emilee chuckled, eating something that looked like a root or veggie.
"But man, spicy food gives you nasty gas." Was her quip.
"Then avoid my older brother after he has chili, smells like something died." Sydney said, still giggling slightly, eating a fruit. "Mm, sweet." Lewa made a face, and shuddered. "Lewa knows first hand." Sydney muttered, grinning widely.
"Hey!" Was his response to the psychic's grin. Mark rolled his eyes, and grabbed another meat (fish I think), and nibbled on it.
"My question is, how are we able to eat this food?" He asked, looking at the other food. That made me pause and look at the food. It was good, but since we were in a universe that the population was mostly bio-organic robots. Tahu shrugged at Marks question.
"How were we able to your peoples food when we were in your universe?" Mark paused.
"True." Was his response, and he went silent. I couldn't help but to chuckle. It was so calm right now. But I remembered the memorable lunch when a 'friend' of Sydney's had arrived at school.
"Your name is what?" Jessica asked, her eyebrows furrowing together. The silver haired boy snorted.
"I said my name was Ryu." He said, his eyes narrowing. "Must I repeat myself again?"
"No, I thought you said something else, thats all." Jessica said defensively, holding her hands up. I narrowed my eyes at him. This boy was odd for sure, but Sydney usually finds 'interesting' people to talk to. I shrugged at odd comments Amanda was making about something she did in one of her games. Sydney sheepishly grinned and nibbled her PB and J sandwich. Michael was talking to Emilee, who took up in talking about soccer.
"Its really easy once you get the hang of it." Emilee started, making Michael snort at this.
"Never been good at soccer, even when me and my dad practiced." Was his reply to that. Ryu looked over at the two.
"What's soccer like?" Emilee and Michael looked at him.
"You basically just kick a ball around and try to get it into the other teams goal, to spare us the long speech." Sydney said simply to him, smiling. Emilee gave a retorting look, but stayed quiet.
"Well then, Syd's simple words strike again." I said jokingly, chuckling. Ryu only grinned, then a mess of pale tan and red smacked him in the back of the head. Michael leaned back, and everyone else looked a little horrified.
"FOOD FIGHT!" The cries of several students sounded, and the food started flying. He grabbed Sydney(who was frozen stiff at the sudden turn in events) and ducked under the table. The rest of us followed his example. I glanced out, only to nearly get pelted with a piece of chicken burger.
"Is this normal here?!" Michael stated, clearly not impressed.
"Happened last year for the senior prank. So I'm not surprised that it's happening again…" Jessica replied, seemingly just as surprised as the rest of us. I decided to get the Potatoes and Ketchup out of Ryu's hair the best as I could, which Sydney started to help me with. It was a war out from under our table. Teachers were trying to contain/stop the food fight, but even they were getting pelted with the flying food. It was a bad enough that the kids who started it were hooligans.
I snapped back to reality at the sound of a juicy fruit hitting someone square in the face. I flinched and looked around. Jessica was standing up, looked ticked to hell off. Sydney looked very confused, not to mention a bit upset at Jessica. I looked over to see Matau looking pretty shocked as the fruit dripped off his face. Everyone went quiet, then, Matau 'exploded'. He grabbed some of his food and chucked it at Jessica, who yelled: "It's ON!" Food started to fly, smacking some of the others. Soon, Onua and Pohatu joined in, along with Amanda, who started laughing. Nokama and Gali was trying to contain the situation, but was failing miserably. Emilee and Tahu used their mask power to block any of the food that was hurtled toward them, each time giving a glare at the offender. The others did the best they could to avoid the flying food. I ducked what looked a cross between an apple and a grape spattered on the wall right where my head was. It was absolute chaos. I looked over and chuckled to myself, Syd had taken refuge near Michael.
"Damnit, Matau!" Nuju said as he ducked underneath a piece of meat that flew over him, only to be pelted from the side with a barrage of small nuts. Amanda cackled, holding a handful of the nuts, then she got smacked in the back of the head when another piece of meat flew.
"Guys! We need to act our age! This isn't funny anymore!" Emilee shouted, shield going up again. I then noticed that the door was opening, and Jessica was getting ready to throw a piece of what looked like an oversized carrot.
"Jessie, NO!" Too late. Dume had come into the room just as Vakama ducked to avoid it. It must have been rotten, because it splattered all over his face. It went dead quiet. Amanda was the first one to say it.
"Ah oh." Amanda said as the food fight came to a standstill almost immediately and everyone turned to look at Dume. Matau was holding some meat, and looked as if he froze before he could throw. Dume wiped part of the vegetable's remains off of his face, then glared at the others in the room.
"Would someone care to explain what's exactly going on here?" Dume started calmly, but it was clear that he was ready to give someone a whooping.
"Matau called Sydney a wimp!" Jessica blurted.
"I could have handled it, Jessie….." She muttered, picking out some bits of jerky out of her hair.
"All I can say is that it escalated quickly. Too quickly." Michael quipped. Dume seemed to puff up.
"Everyone other than the Toa Nuva and Metru can go." We happily obliged this. Mark, though had to lead a giggling Amanda out of the room.
"Sorry, Dume…" I whispered to him, and left.
"Well, there goes at least 15 minutes of entertainment." Mark chuckled as we toured Ga-Metru.
"True, though I pity the Toa Nuva and Toa Metru right now." Michael said, and we all winced as we pictured the verbal abuse that the two teams were getting.
"At least Gali and Nokama tried to end it.." Jessica added. "But it wasn't right for Matau to call you that Syd." Sydney could only shrug.
"I probably would have just said something back to him." She replied. Amanda started giggling.
"It was amusing-fun." She giggled, and started to go up to the random shops to look at things.
"But still….. it wasn't very mature." I stated, shaking my head. Mark sighed, and paused.
"Doesn't it seem like it's been too quiet? It's been a couple of days, and nothing. Worries me."
"Don't jinx it!" Sydney yelped, covering her ears. Everyone laughed. I knew that she was always a bit too superstitious about things like this. Soon, the group slowly dispersed, looking at the variety of shops in the street. I was at one with some musical instruments, when I noticed that Sydney had gone up to Michael, who was looking at masks. I turned away, but I tuned in, hoping that Sydney had finally gotten the courage to say what she wanted to say(to be honest, I felt like an eavesdropper, it made me feel horrible). I was still getting used to the fact that I had powers now, not to mention strange, but it has it's uses. I listened them once they started talking.
Sydney awkwardly fidgeted, she wanted to talk to Michael while they were eating, but the food fight prevented that from happening. But talking out in the open around other Matoran could prove disastrous, and she didn't want rumors spreading like wildfire to all of the other Metru's, but then again….. Matau and Lewa might do the same thing. But if she didn't do it now, she might not have the courage to do it later. Taking a deep breath, Sydney walked up to Michael, who was talking to a Ta-Matoran, who looked pretty happy that someone took interest in the masks that he had for sale.
"Michael… can… can I talk to you?" Sydney stuttered meekly, fidgeting again. Michael smiled and said good-bye, and that he'd come back later to look at the masks to the Ta-Matoran, and the two of them walked away from the small stall.
"Is something wrong, Sydney?" He asked her, tilting his head, looking a little confused.
"No, no its- there's nothing wrong!" Sydney said quickly. STUPID! That was a stupid move! Sydney thought to herself, mentally face palming, and she could feel the confused thoughts floating around in Michaels head. His eyebrows furrowed together.
"Then…. what is it?" Michael asked, and I noticed that he was trying to hide his confusion in his face and thoughts.
"Well…. Oh dear…" Sydney started, turning her head a little and staring off. "I….. I've wanted to tell you something for a while now… and… I never had the courage to tell you until…. I guess now…"
"Yes, go on." Michael said, patiently. This made the psychic blush, his patience was one of the things that she liked about him.
"Well… I've liked you for a long time…. no what I want to say is-" Amanda's scream filled the cheery air.
"RAHKSHI!"
I jerked my head in the direction of Amanda's scream, and saw her staring face to face with seven of them, all of them the same colors as the ones that chased us. I dashed up to face them with the others as well. A low chuckle filled the air as Matoran screamed and ran.
"Well then, I'm surprised that I'd find all of you all here." A sickly sweet voice rang out, and a snake like faced women stepped out into the street. "Oh well, better to deal with all of you now than later." She chimed, grinning evilly.
"Why don't you just take your pets and scram." Jessica hissed.
"We don't want trouble….. And who are you?" I said bitterly. This time she scowled, clearly not impressed
"I'm surprised. You clearly don't know as much as the other two do about our world.I-"
"Roodaka. Visionary of the Visorak, traitor to the Dark Hunters. I'm surprised that you came here, especially after what you did to Sidorak." Sydney said, in a matter-of-fact tone, eyes narrowed
"I wish we could emergency-call the others…" Amanda muttered. I looked over at her, I knew that she was concerned, but now wasn't the time to panic. Roodaka sneered, and clicking sounded behind her, causing the hairs on the back of my neck to rise. Four Visorak flanked the women, clinking their pincers menacingly. I started to tense up. Visorak and Rahkshi? We were doomed, if one of us got bit. I shuddered at the thought of being a Hordika. The Rahkshi where the first to make a move, lunging at the seven of us. I dodged one that was similar to the one that chased me, and tried to side-swipe my feet. I jumped back and pulled a sledgehammer like weapon. I slammed it into the ground, sending a sound wave blast that shook the ground. The Rahkshi seemed a bit unphased, but it lost its balance. I rammed into it, forcing it to the ground. I took a step back, and raised my weapon, only to be jumped on by a brown, over-sized spider.
"Kasey!" Emilee cried out, and I glanced over to her, seeing that she was trying to beat the white Rahkshi. I forced myself to face my current predicament. The handle on my weapon was the only thing that was keeping the Visorak from biting me, and I was fighting a losing battle, the brown Rahi was getting closer. The rancid breath and sickly green venom emitted from its mouth. But it was the sound of propellers that got me. I turned my head to see a small Turaga sized Rahkshi use it's staff to drive the spider off. I looked up at him, confused.
"Ahh….. Thanks?" I said, seeing more of him, but different colors, fly in to fend off the Visorak. The Rahkshi-like being smiled.
"No problem. Go help your friends." He said, and went to assist the other 'Turaga Rahkshi'. I leapt up and ferociously attack that green Rahkshi that Amanda was fighting. The Rahkshi screeched angrily as I felt my body change to my Toa form, and ram into the side. Amanda cheered, and used her staff as a baseball bat and hit the head, promptly crushing it in the process. The Rahkshi fell, and a worm crawled out of it, hissing as it slithered away. The two of us recoiled. I looked at Amanda.
"You alright?" I asked her.
"Frightened-scared, but sure-fine." Amanda admitted, and we both went off to assist the others. Jessica seemed in need, so I went to help her. But Jessica gestured to Sydney, whose spear was several feet away from her, and forced the psychic to use her fists. I dashed over to her, grabbing the spear as Sydney ducked under the swinging staff.
"High-ho!" I called out, tossing the staff to her. Sydney again ducked another blow and grabbed the spear. The son of Makuta was now weary, as if it knew what the spear could do to it. I turned my attention back to the others. Michael seemed to be fending off a Visorak and a Rahkshi at the same time. I charged in, and gave a holler. "HEY! Stink face!" The black Visorak turned to me and clanked its pincers. "Come one and get me, you overgrown Bosh'tet!" The spider seemed to look ticked to hell off at me, because it turned its attention to me. I knew one thing, I was probably doomed. But I couldn't back down now. I felt the sudden 'motherly' feeling. These were my friends, I couldn't think of the result of the battle if I backed down now. I glared at the Visorak.
"That's right! I'm talking to you! Come get me!" I yelled, getting into a defensive stance. The black spider charged at me, and I guess I sidestepped and swang my hammer, sending the spider flying into the Rahkshi that Sydney was fighting, and winning. She blinked meekly at the upside down spider and downed Rahkshi. Giving her the thumbs up, I turned my attention back to Michael. "Need help?!" I called out to him.
"Nah, I got this." He said, pushing back at the Rahkshi that he was fighting. I could say that the battle was over in a matter of 20 minutes, which ended when Syd mind controlled one of the Rahkshi to attack its friend. All I can say that that ended comically. Roodaka had… vanished, which put me on edge, but no one else seemed to notice this, or that she was gone. Either that, or the others didn't care at that point. Amanda was checking around with Mark; whom she went to assist after I helped her, looking for any more "surprises". The rest of us were investigating the shops to see if there was any damage done to them. I turned to the Turaga Rahkshi that helped me out.
"Thanks for the save back there, thought I was a goner." I said to the brown one, who seemed to smile up at us.
"It was nothing. My name is Pouks." He replied in a friendly manner, nodding. Emilee studied the assorted Turaga sized Rakhshi, while Jessica looked specialty at them.
"Are you guys 'Turaga-fied Rahkshi'?" Jessica asked bluntly. Mark chuckled at this.
"No Jessica. They…. ah… were the Toa Hagah. They go by Rahaga now." He corrected Jessica, who snorted and apologized to them. I wish I noticed Sydney and Amanda slip into an alley….. I could have prevented so much… But we kept on talking to the Rahaga.
"Psychic-sister… I'm second-thinking that we are being watch-followed…" Amanda said nervously, looking around.
"I'm getting the feeling to…. But I've got nothing on the mental radar here." Sydney replied, looking back at her best friend. "Sorry for dragging you along with me."
"It's sure-fine. But you do often-much worry." Amanda answered, making Sydney chuckle lightly.
"True… guess after what happened earlier, I'm on edge… We can go back now if you want." The Toa of Psonics said, turning fully to the Lightning Toa. She grinned at her friend, only for her eyes widened at the sight of a blade starting to swing down.
"SYD!" Was all Amanda could say before the blade made contact with her back. Sydney's eyes widened as she fell forward. Amanda couldn't even move to assist her fallen friend, for a staff whacked her upside the head.
"Hmpth, to easy. To, to easy." Roodaka sneered at the two fallen Toa.
"Y… You…." Sydney couldn't bring herself to speak as the Rahkshi hoisted Amanda over its shoulder. Roodaka only smiled.
"Oh don't worry. It won't be long till you lose consensus. And we'll be long gone before that." Roodaka said, leading the Rahkshi away with Amanda. Roodaka then turned her head to see the Toa stand up weakly.
"Put…. her… down….now…." She hissed, eyes narrowed, and they seemed to glow. Roodaka only stepped toward her.
"You better stay where you are. I won't hesitate to kill you, or at least make it so you can't follow me." Roodaka responded to this. Sydney made a couple of steps forward when Roodaka swang her staff again, getting a satisfying(what Roodaka considered satisfying) crack against the Huna. A small trickle of blood trickled down her face. The girl shifted to her human form, staring up at the Vortixx. Roodaka grinned evilly as she walked away. Sydney was forced to watch her friend be taken away by the female Makuta, giving small sounds. Finally, she screamed in pain, agony, and loss.
My head shot up at the scream, and turned toward the direction it sounded. I noticed that both Sydney and Amanda were gone.
"Guys…. Where's Sydney and Amanda?" I asked, frantically looking around, hoping that they just wondered a short distance away from the group. But the two were nowhere in sight. The cry came again, only at a lower pitch, and stopped dead. Jessica's eyes widened.
"Oh no…... That scream, it can't be." She gasped and took off running towards the source. I turned to the others, seeing that they were just as scared as I was. I finally peeled off after Jessie, others close behind as well. I was praying, no, hoping that it wasn't who I thought it was. I heard Jessica's footfalls stopped dead in their tracks. I slowed down, and went over to her. Jessica was frozen stiff. I looked where she was looking and froze as well. Sydney lay there, a small pool of blood forming from the open wound on her back. I froze up as well. No…. No… Not Sydney… please, not her. My mind was reeling, I don't want to believe what my eyes were telling me.
"Guys? Is something wrong-" Emilee finished her sentence with a gasp, blue-green eyes suddenly wide. "Oh no…" Soon the rest of the group was standing there, in dead silence. I forced myself to move to see if she was still alive. When I got close, the slight rise and fall of her sides indicated that she still was alive.
"... Someone help me!" I shouted, pulling everyone out of their shock. "She'll bleed to death if we don't stop it!" Michael and Jessica jumped into action. Michael ran back to the marketplace in search of… something. Jessica came over to me and leaned toward Sydney.
"Syd? Syd, it's ok, we're gonna help you." Jessica murmured to her. I used Sydney's shawl to help stem the bleeding, even though it was already blood soaked. I was shaking, I didn't like this at all. Sydney suddenly made a funny sound, causing to two of us to flich. "Sydney?" Jessica asked quietly, recollecting herself. She didn't respond to her name and started to mumble. Michael returned with cloth, which he quickly; with Emilee's help, started to tear it up. I looked at Sydney, her eyes were wide and blank, gasping in short bursts as well. It was hard to not tear up at Sydney's state. Ignore her face for right now, just focus, I need to put pressure on the wound. I forced myself to think, quickly looking away from her.
"Bandages are ready." Emilee said, I nodded, and Mark came over to help me lift her up.
"Easy, easy." Mark ushered, trying to calm the panicking girl. I could tell she was now registering the pain now. Mark had finished putting the makeshift bandages on her when she started to speak.
"Gu-guy's…. She…. sh-sh-sh-she took Amanda…." Sydney started, and starting to shake. "I didn't feel her… she was….. she was just suddenly there.. We have to get Amanda back!" Sydney shouted, but was stopped by a bout of coughing.
"Not now, you're hurt pretty bad, you need medical help!" Jessica protested, helping Michael lift the injured teen up. Sydney stayed quiet, only wincing and holding back tears. We dashed out of the alley and hopefully to make it back to the Coliseum. Norik and the Rahaga went ahead to alert the elder Toa of the events. I could only hope that we were doing the right thing, and that Amanda would be alright.
Tahu looked glumly towards Ta-Metru. He'll admit it, he was worried about the newly dubbed Toa Terra. Norik had arrived not even five minutes ago to report the Rahkshi attack, Sydney's injury, and Amanda's disappearance. It put him on edge when this was said to him, and he couldn't shake the feeling off that this was planned. Gaaki had gone with Nokama and Gali to prepare to heal Sydney, while the others patrolled the nearby area to make sure it was secure. Onua, Whenua, Pohatu, and Ownea where the first to return. Tahu looked up, hopeful that they had found something. Pohatu only shook his head, dissipating Tahu's hope.
"Nothing, brother. We even asked the Matoran if they'd seen anything at all."
"You can say that again…" Whenua muttered.
"It's a good thing though, Pohatu. We don't want another Toa down, even with our numbers." Ownea stated, looking a bit down as well. Onua nodded at his quip.
"Better than having enemies waiting for right moment to strike." Tahu grit his teeth together. Both of them had a point, but that didn't put his nerves at ease. He looked up to see that the Toa Terra were coming closer to them. Tahu squinted, struggling to see the seven. He counted six, which made him stiffen. Glancing at the others, Tahu saw that they were also stiff. Not good, not good at all. Tahu thought and looked back. Jessica was running close to Michael, when he realised that he was carrying Sydney. Kasey made it to them first.
"Where's…. Gali and Nokama?" She asked, out of breath. Tahu gestured inside, and decided to follow the six Toa, along with the two Toa of Earth and Stone. Nokama was in the hall when she saw them, and gestured to Michael to come in. Giving a breath of relief, he gently shook Sydney, suddenly realizing how pale she was now.
"Syd? Wake up, you're gonna be ok now." He started, shaking her again. Nothing, not even a mumble. Michael tried again, still nothing. "Sydney this isn't funny, wake up." Michael said firmly, a horrible feeling raising up. Gali looked over at him confused.
"What's wrong? Isn't she waking up?" Gali asked, tilting her head. Michael looked up at her, eyes filled with fear.
"She's not responding." Gali's eyes widened, fear prickling her spine. She remembered reading in a medical book that Sydney let her borrow, blood loss was a bad thing. Gali took the Toa of Psonics and laid her on her stomach. Gali never thought that Sydney would be this light, or breathing so weakly. Nokama looked over the wound and turned to Michael.
"You should probably leave, the wound is worse than it looks." Michael didn't respond, but he did leave.
I turned my head to see Michael close the door, and slump onto the floor next to it. He was in his human form, his shirt covered in blood. I was also in human form. I glanced over to the others, Mark was debriefing what had happened, Jessica and and Emilee seemed to be in shock. I turned back to Michael and walked over to him.
"Michael?... Are you ok?" I asked him quietly. He didn't look up at me, and didn't respond for a couple minutes. I figured it might be best to leave him alone for right now. I went over to Jessica and Emilee, who were both quiet.
"How'd this happen?" Jessica finally said after a couple minutes of silence. Emilee and I looked at Jess. Emilee hung her head.
"To be honest…. I don't know…" She admitted, looking at the wall. "Michael doesn't seem to be taking this as well at all…." She also pointed out. Jessica looked hotly out the window in the hallway. I didn't have a response to this at all, I'm still stunned with what happened. It was a couple hours later when Nokama, Gali, and Gaaki came out the room, carrying blooded cloth. Gali looked at the four of us and nodded. We all bolted in. Sydney was asleep, but still looked a little pale. I blinked, a bit confused.
"Um….. what did they do?" I asked quietly, turning to Michael. Michael scanned her for a minute.
"I do believe that Gali and Nokama healed the wound….. Other than that, I'm not sure." Was Michaels response to the question. I looked back at her, and saw that Syd's eyes were opening a little.
"Syd? Can you hear me?" I asked quietly. A 'murr' was the answer. Jessica gave a low chuckle.
"Well, at least you're OK." Jess said calmly, ruffling Sydney's hair. Blinking, the 16 year old slowly sat up wincing in slight pain, and wide wake.
"A… Amanda… is she?" She started, looking at all of us. I glanced around at the others. Jessica hung her head.
"I'm sorry Sydney….. They looked… nothing." Emilee responded to her questioning look. She looked down, and I put my hand on her shoulder.
"Just get some rest for now, we'll find her. Don't you worry about it." I assured her. As we got up to leave, I saw Sydney awkwardly sit up, opening her mouth to say something, but changed her mind, laying back. I noticed that she was trying not to cry.
