Let You Down

Nerilla knocked on the door of the apartment and waited for the invitation to step in. It was a few seconds, but the door opened and Nerilla tried not to let her surprise show. Clara looked tired and slightly pale. Something was wrong with the Queen and she was certain that her concern was showing in her eyes.

Clara gave a small smile and stepped back.

"I'm fine, so wipe that look off your face." She said and Nerilla did her best and stepped into the apartment where the bed was messy. Was her Queen resting?

"Did I interrupt your sleep?" she asked Clara and when she met her eyes, her Queen glared at her playfully. Ginger stepped out too and had the exact same look as Clara in her beady Hellhound eyes.

"What did you find out?" she asked and quickly found a chair to sit in. Nerilla wasn't certain if that was a confirmation, but then she couldn't help but notice how tired Clara seemed. The way she moved, it was slow and gentle as if she was avoiding aching muscles. When she noticed too long, Clara glared and narrowed her eyes. "I won't repeat myself." She added, her voice sharp like her eyes. Then Ginger sat at Clara's feet with, yet again, the same look in her eyes. Even if the Queen looked tired, she had a powerful aura.

"Right." Nerilla said and stood firmly before her Queen. "As it turns out, Anne was already alive before the deal." She said and Clara just stared at her, her expression blank. It seemed Crowley was rubbing off on Clara; she was just as difficult to read. She was certain that her Queen wasn't thrilled to hear this, but it actually seemed like she was emotionless.

"And Zephyr knew." Clara said, a statement with a slight question mark to her tone of voice.

"Seems that way. We might have to check all of her deals to see if she pulled this stunt more than once." Nerilla said and Clara remained still and silent for a few seconds, but sighed and nodded. "I'll do it." she added and Clara shot her an icy glare that sent shivers down Nerilla's spine.

"I like how everyone thinks I'm useless now that I'm pregnant." Clara said and despite her words, her voice was just as cold as her stare. Nerilla could have kicked herself, but just nodded and lowered her eyes as if she lost her right to look into the eyes of her Queen.

As Clara stood up, she sighed and placed a hand in her lower back. Nerilla looked up with concern, but reminded herself that Clara didn't want concern. As if her Queen could sense her concern, she changed the subject a little.

"I assume it went well with the angels." Clara said as she met Nerilla's eyes. She wasn't certain how to reply, but nodded and told the truth.

"I spoke to an old friend of mine and those involved in Anne's resurrection, Ezekiel and Tessa, the reaper, are dead." She said and Clara arched her eyebrow. "So, my friend got the information from Anne's journal." She added and then Clara had a slight grin on her lips.

"Some friend." She said and the look in her eyes told Nerilla she wanted to know the name of this friend. Nerilla took a deep breath and blurted out the name before she could try to weasel out of it, which would have angered Clara.

"Gabriel." She said and, the worst thing ever occurred. No, Clara wasn't angry. It was worse than that. The door opened and in walked the last demon that Nerilla wanted in this conversation.

"Oh, wait until Crowley hears this." Nikolai said, laughing as he closed the door behind him. Nerilla spun on her heels and snapped at the Knight.

"You wouldn't dare." She said and that got Nikolai to laugh harder, turning his face practically red.

"How much you gonna pay me?" he asked, still laughing, now through Nerilla's punches to his chest and shoulders.

As Clara stood by and watched Nerilla hit and threaten Nikolai who laughed uncontrollably, she wondered if that's how certain bits of information failed in getting to Crowley. Is that what happened? One demon wanted to tell and another was too much of a chicken shit, so they paid off the brave one?

Eventually, Clara had to break-up the two demons. She sighed and rolled her eyes first, naturally, then let a deep growl escape her throat which froze the demons in their tracks. They slowly turned and faced their Queen, then lowered their eyes as if to apologize for their actions.

Once Clara had their attention, she looked at Nerilla.

"Gabriel, the angel?" she asked and when the lieutenant nodded, Nikolai snickered and received a smack from Nerilla. Clara cleared her throat and both settled down once more. "What is your relationship with him?" she asked and Nerilla looked up as if she was about to get whipped to death.

"Friends with benefits." She said, terror sparking in her eyes. After a few seconds, Clara smirked and Nerilla relaxed.

"Never thought I'd hear of an angel and a demon sleeping together." Clara said and approached the demons. "Once we go through Zephyr's deals, he'll help you to figure out exactly what the bitch did? Or whatever arrangement you have with him?" she asked and Nerilla nodded her head with a smile. "Good."

Nikolai let a sound escape from his mouth and it matched his confused expression.

"I'm missing something here." He said and Clara met his eyes with a grin.

"And Crowley's still out on business?" Clara asked and the Knight nodded his head. "Gone searching for something to stop my pain without having an effect on our daughter." Clara said with a slight hint of venom in her voice. "I like how he tells me while I'm sleeping." She added and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Pain?" Nikolai asked with concern. Clara met his eyes and smiled darkly.

"Is that all you got from what I said?" she asked, clearly not wanting to talk about her pain.

Nerilla then knew that she had indeed interrupted her Queen's rest, but aside from the guilt, she felt excited to know that her Queen was pregnant with a girl. She couldn't contain her happiness and smiled, knowing that her Queen wanted to talk about her child. Clara took noticed and grinned.

"A girl." Nikolai said with a sexy smirk, changing the subject for his Queen. "Crowley's gonna have fun when she's a teenager." He added and Clara's grin widened. "She'll be a bombshell like her mother." He added and even winked at his Queen. Nerilla shook her head and smacked him. When he shot her a glare, she returned it.

"Hitting on your Queen? Have you no morals?" she asked him and then his lips twitched into a grin.

"Screwing an angel, have you no morals?" he asked her and her rage boiled as their Queen simply stood there with a grin on her face, enjoying that comeback.
