A/N: I started out this fanfiction last year a few months ago before my national exams and it was actually a way for me to relieve stress. I've never had much confidence in myself, and when I started writing, all I thought of was to hold those ideas and thoughts somewhere in case I'll forget it in the future. To be honest, I've never thought that anyone would have left reviews for me, and yesterday when I opened my account again, you can't imagined how surprised and touched I was that there are people out there who loved my story. I'm eternally grateful for them. Although it's going to be a year since I updated the story, and I don't know if anyone's is still going to continue reading it, those reviews had spurred me further. I'll take up writing again and update soon. Thank you once again.
Cheers!
5 minutes to the end of school. Rei placed his head on his hand as he looked up at the clock while the teacher carried on teaching. He'd never felt the need to know the time. After all, time never meant anything to the Code: Breakers. However, today, he was extremely restless. He knew that Kylie was safe, and she needed sometime alone. But somehow, he was still worried for her.
The bell rang and he stood up to pack his bag. He subconsciously turned to the right, wanting to help Kylie before remembering that she's not around.
"Hey, Ogami-Kun! Want to come with us to the Karaoke? Sakura will be going too!" Just as he was about to leave, a girl ran up to him. He recognised the girl as the one always beside Sakura Sakurakouji, Aoba.
"No. I have something to take care of." Sakura replied, causing Aoba to run towards her, whispering, "Hey! Who do you think I'm doing this for?" Rei tilted his head to the side, watching the two girls whisper among themselves.
"I'm sorry, but I have work today." He finally said, gaining their attention again.
"Oh, you do?" Aoba asked.
"Ogami, now that you mention it, what work do you and your sister do?" Sakura turned and asked.
"We're cleaners. Garbage cleaning." He smiled at them. Yeah right, garbage cleaning. Of humans that is.
"I see. That is most admirable. But where is your sister? I didn't see her in school today?"
"She's sick." He replied, before taking out his beeping phone and showing it to the two girls," You see, it looks like they're already calling me for work. I'm sorry, but I have to go, but invite me some other times." He smiled and walked out of the classroom.
"What is it?" His tone turned cold as he answered the call. There was some talking at the other end before he answered, "Yes, of course I'll be taking care of the trashes today, but only me. Kylie is not coming along. Make some preparations"
"What are you going to do about Sakurakouji Sakura?" His brows scrunched together upon hearing her name.
"I'm not going to do much of anything. Just as I've always been doing, I'm going to eliminate her." His gaze darkened as he said the last sentence. He sighed as he ended the call. Today he was going to eliminate the G-Falcons, and take revenge for their misdeeds and help the world.
Help the world? By killing? There are many ways to help the world, Rei. Revenge isn't just the only way. Kylie's words rang again, and he shook them away. He didn't have a choice to begin with, and neither does Kylie. They were meant to do this.
Kylie laid down on the grass and looked up into the sky. She was in a meadow that she had found and called her secret hideout a long time ago. Absentmindedly touching the flowers beside her, she breathed in the fresh air and closed her eyes. The invigorating scent of the grass seemed to have cleared her mind a bit and she felt calm with the tranquillity around her.
She felt guilty for being that way to Rei when she knew he was just being worried for her. Rei was like her brother, always caring for her without saying much, which was why she wished more than anyone else or him to be happy and lead a normal life. Not possible at all, she thought.
Somehow, their fate seemed to have been destined from the day they've been born, that they exist only to kill, and take revenge for the innocent. It seemed to be for a good cause, of course, but she knew much better than that. She had seen many lives being taken away in front of her, and how people like her slowly would become heartless and unfeeling towards death. She had seen too much, explaining why she didn't want to watch Rei become one of those people. Without compassion, without humanity, one would just be a living shell. This, she thought, is worse than those who committed evil, because they cannot love anymore.
Love. Her heart clenched just at the thought of that word. She once loved, and she believed that one should love and be loved, no matter who they are and what they've done. It was supposed to be a beautiful thing, yet it seemed to bring more pain to many. Is that why people turn heartless? Because they can't find a way to love anymore? Heartless people must have been those who have been hurt badly once before to numb themselves from that pain. Even sometimes, she asked herself again and again, if she was still capable of love. After all that has happened, and after what she had become. Of course, even till now, there was no definite answer.
Sighing, she closed her eyes again. Based on her understanding of Rei, she knew that regardless of what she said before and even if he understood, he would still be attacking the G-Falcons tonight. The sky had begun to darken, and she estimated another few hours before he would make his move.
That girl will be there, she mused, weighing on the decision of whether she should join the fight. Sakura's face came into her mind as she thought about the next move to make. Most probably, if the girl was there, Rei would eliminate her. Although she hadn't voiced out to Rei yet, she most definitely wasn't joking when she told Rei that the girl was unqiue. She was special, and somehow, Kylie could predict that she was more important that she seemed to be. Most importantly, she will be the key to changing Rei.
She smiled as she reached to a decision. Standing up and brushing off the dust, she left the meadow. Rei was going to be surprised with that girl.
