Chapter 9: A day with the Tenshi

The girl sat up, yawning in the bright sunlight shining through the window. She looked around the room, nothing was familiar, until she saw the pile of clothes and a scary looking scythe. Slowly, she put her weight on her feet and walked towards it, picking it up with caution. It felt warm in her small palm, as if rejoicing their reunion. But the moment past. Suddenly, the little girl couldn't even hold it. It landed on the floor, making a really loud clatter. She tried yet again, but the weapon was still oblivious to her touch.

The door burst open, Misaki stood at the doorway, looking at the girl with her hand still wrapped on the handle of the scythe. She look at Misaki and Misaki looked at her. Then, Misaki laughed.

"What are you trying to do with that?" Misaki said in between her giggles.

The girl frowned and looked at her with a childish angry face. "It's not polite to laugh at someone."

Misaki went over and picked the scythe up with obvious ease and put it back on the table. Then turned back to the girl and said " So, what's your name?" The girl tilted her head, and said in a slightly timid voice, "I don't know, who am I supposed to be?"

Misaki looked slightly taken a back. "Do you remember anything?" She asked.

The girl shrugged, indicating that she herself didn't know either.

This was going to be more difficult than Misaki had thought, well at least she had finally talked. Misaki sighed, and held out her hand to the child and said " My name is Kirihara Misaki, nice to meet you. For now, I think we should give you a name before we find out your real one."

The girl nodded. "How about..." Misaki thought for a moment, then decided. "How about Yui? That's a typical name for a girl."

Yui nodded. Misaki continued "Yui, we have to go to the shops first to get you some normal clothes." Yui nodded again, and the two girls set out of the apartment. Since she was going to work directly after, Misaki also brought along the pieces of clothing and the scythe she had found on the roof.

As they drove along the crowded streets, Yui fumbled with the clothes. It seemed so familiar, but yet so distant. There was something else as well. A name that kept going through her mind, yet meaning nothing at all. Could she have met this person before?

xx To Hei's side xxx

Hei rushed out of Misuzu with his Li smile, but as soon as he had turned the corner, the emotionless mask immediately took over. He hurried towards the childrens playground, while missing the familiar figure of Ying by his side when they had gone together so many times before.

The rest of the team was already there, all except Ying. When Hei arrived, Huang immediately bellowed at him

"WHAT IN THE BLAZES HAPPENED?! WHERE THE HELL IS YING?" The whole playground shook, even Mao stood up in alarm, staring at Huang looking bewildered.

"Calm down Huang." Mao said quickly. "Last night the thing that Hei and Ying were sent to retrieve backfired on Ying, or maybe acknowledged Ying as a new host." Mao explained.

Hei stared at him and said "So it was true that the thing really gives you another contract?"

Mao nodded and continued " Ying is probably in a pretty bad state if she isn't able to take what it keeps. Otherwise, she should be pretty much alright."

Suddenly Hei marched up to him and stared down, a face full of blood lust clearly etched into his handsome features.

"Why did you stop me? Ying is taken by the cops, who knows what they will do to her, especially if she is in your "pretty bad state"." Hei's voice rose and almost became level with Huang's minutes ago.

"Hei, it would be even more suspicious and more dangerous for Ying if that officer found out that the girl you kidnapped last time appeared again here looking as though nothing had happened. "

"But she didn't see Ying's face, that night Ying was facing towards the ground." Hei retorted.

Mao replied "But she saw Ying's face in other times, when Ying arrived, they even had a brief chat. She was bound to recognize her when she lay on the floor by her dress. You wouldn't get the same costume twice on a girl like that. Besides, what I said to you on the roof didn't make any difference. You still wanted to make a move. But you didn't. You stopped yourself, why?"

Hei was silent as he pondered his answer. Why had he stopped? He could have just electrocuted those two policemen and take Ying back. Why? Hei still remembered when Bai had disappeared, someone had stopped him going after her as well. Perhaps it was the same touch all those years ago, it had once again stopped him doing something "irrational". What was it though? Whatever it was, Hei wouldn't admit it, but he was grateful of it. He knew it maybe the best way for things to go onwards. Perhaps it was it again, then stopped him from storming into the police station and demanding Ying back.

Hei recovered and asked. "Okay, we need to get her back, but first we need to find out where she is."

Yin whispered "I am looking all around the city. So far no luck."

Huang cut in, "Make sure we get this over and done with quickly. The syndicate still has alot of missions in all need Ying for that. Why is she such a troublesome girl? Contractors.."
Huang sighed heavily and trailed out of the park.

Yui walked out of the changing rooms, dressed in a white top and skirt, with a black overcoat hanging by her side. The black socks were matched by white boots reaching up just below her knee. Misaki thought she looked like an angel and bought the outfit immediately.

Misaki grasped Yui by the hands, and together they walked out of the shop and walked down the street towards a breakfast store where they sat and ordered their breakfast. Yui quickly gobbled down the fries she had ordered with an occasional sip from the cup of milk tea beside her. She looked pretty happy and it was the first time Misaki saw a smile spread itself across her cute features.

"Oishi!" Yui said in between mouthfuls. Misaki felt herself melt as she herself enjoyed her meal. It was only now, that she noticed that a man was standing outside the window, staring at Yui wide eyed, mouth slightly open. Yui, followed Misaki's gaze in that direction and showed no sign of recognition when she saw him.

"Do you know him?" Misaki asked gently, still staring outside.

Yui shook her head and without a second glance at the man, carried on with her breakfast. Misaki turned back, but took a second glance seconds later. He was gone.

As soon as the two girls have finished, Misaki drove to her department where Ootsuka immediately stared at Yui.

"Chief, is that your kid? I didn't know you were married!" Ootsuka exclaimed.

"No! That's um... My friends sister." Misaki stammered. But Ootsuka was too busy "playing" with Yui to notice. Yui seemed to like her company, so Misaki decided to just let them be.

She walked towards Saitou, who immediately stood up and said "Chief, it was apparent that there was going to be a trade on that roof last night. BK201's syndicate was going to get something really valuable, but it seems that the trader in question got a bunch of other contractors to deal with them. That leaves two questions. What were they trading? And what was that kid doing admist all that danger?" Saitou indicated to Yui.

Misaki pondered the questions, and answered "I thought we could have gotten some answers from her, but she may have lost her memory. She doesn't seem to remember anything, not even her name."

Saitou frowned "What do we do now" He asked.

"You and Kouno go research more, try and get every piece of information there is. I'll do something about Yui."

Saitou nodded and went off to fetch Kouno. Misaki turned her attention back to the girl who was now eating a lollipop, swinging her feet as she sat looking out of the window. This was going to be a hard babysitting job.

It was already 8 in the evening when Misaki looked up at the clock. Yui had settled comfortably, reading a book that she was deeply interested in. Misaki felt the her mouth curl, somehow she always felt quite peaceful in her presence. At last, she stood up and said "Yui, its time to go. I still have to go to the supermarket to get some food."

Yui quickly marked the page she was on and jumped up from her seat and followed Misaki out of the door. 5 minutes later, Misaki was driving along the street, and parked outside Jane's Groceries. "Wait for me here." She said to Yui and went inside.

"Ying! What are you doing?" Came a voice.

Yui spun around, unable to locate the speaker. She scanned her area, and finally saw a black cat with a red collar standing behind the windscreen. She stared. Although she knew that cats don't speak, it didn't seem so strange. It was almost as if she already knew that already. The cat quickly scrambled around and hooked its claws on the sill of Yui's open window.

"Oh well, there isn't too much time. Hei will come get you later, but first he wants you to put this on." The cat dropped a chain onto her lap and disappeared almost as quickly as he had come. Yui looked after it, feeling very confused. She her attention back to the chain. It seemed to be a necklace with a golden locket with a pink four-leafed clover on top. There was some water in it as well. Fumbling with it, she managed to put it on. Seconds later, Misaki appeared and panted "Sorry, there was a long line in front of the counter." Yui smiled "It's okay."

Yui stared out of the window as Misaki drove the way back to her apartment. The necklace was hidden beneath her clothes. She knew not to show anyone. How did she know? Her gaze was distant, she was expecting someone. Hei, where are you?

Who are you?

Hei was standing in behind Yin in her tobacco shop. He dressed in his Kuro no Shinigami outfit, his mask looked more deadly than ever.

"I found her." Yin said.

Hei nodded and burst his way out. He had told Mao to find Ying and give her locket earlier in the evening. He knew it was going to be much easier to track her if there was always water with her. Although he had seen her- or rather the small version of her, which was probably the "backfire" Mao had meant before, Ying had not even the slightest recognition in her eyes when she had saw him.

Ying, wait for me. He wasn't going to lose someone important again.

To be continued...

Yui: Who is Hei anyways? Why do I have to keep remembering his name?

Hei: Its your privilege to know my name.

Me: You two will get to know each other soon enough, but thats enough for now. End of chapter 9. Reviews will be awesome, Thanks everyone!
