Highway to Hell

They were already packed and all they had to do was wait for the Winchesters to fall asleep. They lurked in the corridors once in a while, listening to them yawn and grunt like a bunch of cavemen. Anne was getting impatient. It was nearly one in the morning and the two brothers were still up.

Gadreel would try to calm her down, but he couldn't stop her from pacing around their room like a caged animal. She reminded him of a wolf at the zoo, staring with piercing eyes at the visitors as if thinking of breaking free and creating delicious chaos. Gadreel couldn't help but worry a little.

After about an hour, the brothers finally decided to go to bed and all they had to do was wait a little longer. Anne lost her patience at that point and Gadreel had to hold her firmly by the hand or she'd have been out of the bunker as soon as Sam and Dean had closed their bedroom doors. When she began making impatient sounds, then Gadreel let her go and followed her out to their car which was in the garage. He loved her dearly, but he couldn't help feel like she was a mere child he had to babysit and that was giving him difficulties.

When he orchestrated the plan to leave at night, he didn't foresee the garage and all the noise it would make: opening the door, starting the car and accelerating up the ramp, then closing the door. They stood in the garage, staring at the car and wondering what they could do. However, Anne knew, all she had to do was think of a spell.

"I could use a silence spell, but it might take a while." She said and when Gadreel glanced at her, she seemed worried.

"What's wrong?" he asked her.

"I've never done this spell on something huge like a garage door, not to forget my car." She said, but he smiled softly and wrapped an arm around her, kissing her temple.

"You can do it." he whispered to her. "No one can cast spells like you." He added and his smile broadened at the sight of hers. She leaned into him, as if it were some sort of hug. Then, she pulled away and began concentrating on her spell. Gadreel remained absolutely silent and still as to not bother her. He couldn't help but smile proudly. Although she was grief stricken by the loss of her mother, when she began her spells again, slowly, it was like seeing the old Anne in full form and he knew she could feel it; hence why she was getting back into her spells more and more.

He watched as she began chanting in a whisper and then increasing volume slowly.

"Let the silence rage on; from the rise of the noise, until we're gone. Sleeping men lie and hear none. My spell begun, my spell be done. By the powers of three times three; as I will it, so mote it be." She said repeatedly and when she opened her eyes and met his gaze, she gave a soft smile.

He flashed her a quick smile and wasted no time in opening the garage door as she threw their bags into the car and started it. The second he got into the car, she put it into drive and accelerated up the ramp; exiting the garage and accelerating once again down the road.

Gadreel glanced over at Anne and couldn't help but smile once again. He hadn't seen her this ambitious in a while.

"We have enough money for gas and food." She said. It made Gadreel's smile turn into a grin. They actually had a lot of money; as much money as Anne's mother could give. They had nothing to worry about with concerns to finances.

"We could do like old times; take turns driving." He said and she glanced at him with a smile. The Anne he knew was returning. It seemed like getting out of the Men of Letters' bunker helped her greatly. Since arriving, it was their first time out of the place. Sure, they had spent some time outside, getting fresh air and looking up at the stars, but thinking back, Gadreel felt he should have done this earlier: just go for a drive.

"I missed those days." She said and looked back at the road ahead. "Me staring at you like a love crazed teenager. You, like a scared boy at his first junior high dance." She added and actually let out a small laugh. Although she just referred to him as being a scared boy, he couldn't help but enjoy her laugh.

"Those days aren't gone." he said and when she glanced back at him, she smiled softly. "We'll always have them." He added and she smiled like she used to. For the first time, his Anne was back.

"I'd be lost without you." She said and took his hand in hers and she focused on the road again. She gave his hand a slight squeeze and he knew she was happy.

"I'd still be dead." He replied and made her laugh. Then she glanced at him and laughed with a sort of sadness. He frowned at her slightly with a hint of that amused sadness and she laughed again, losing the sadness. Then she looked at the road and released his hand to tap it gently.

"Yeah, probably." She replied and he let out a dry laugh which made her laugh. He continued to stare at her, enjoying her laughter. He wanted to burn this moment into his memories. She had been so depressed since her mother's death: this was a moment he never wanted to forget if it should never happen again.

From that moment, their drive was silent. It seemed they both were thinking of what could happen. Anne was probably envisioning one last moment with her mother before her soul goes to Heaven, where it belongs. However, Gadreel couldn't shake off his angelic feelings for demons. It went against his age old instincts, but he really hoped that Crowley could give Anne the ease of mind that she needed.
