Oldest Story in the World

Viviane sat in her cell, thinking of her daughter, how she must have felt when she discovered her dead mother. Oh, poor Anne. The grief and despair she must have felt dreadful and painful. Hopefully, she let Gadreel take care of her and help her to move on.

She tried not to think about it, but she always thought of her daughter. The years she missed and the years she will miss. However, she was grateful for the little time she had with Anne. And then there was Gadreel, the man who her daughter loved. Viviane couldn't have hoped for more; she didn't want her daughter to be alone and when she saw how Gadreel lit up whenever Anne was around him, she had no worries. The both of them could have a family of their own and be happy.

That's all that mattered.

Then, there was an echo, like someone walking closer and then she stood up. She actually lit up when she saw Clara, but then her face paled and she seemed uncertain when she saw Crowley. She had never met him, but knew it was the King of Hell. However, that wasn't the reason why she looked a little horrified. If the King of Hell was accompanying Clara on this visit, then there had to be bad news.

"Is it Anne?" she asked and Clara smiled softly. When Crowley glanced at her, that smile surprised him slightly.

"Anne is fine." Clara said and glanced at Crowley. He then lifted the papers up and Viviane looked a little confused. "This is your transfer." She added and Viviane was stunned for a brief moment, but quickly nodded.

The bars of her cell recited into the dark walls and Viviane took a step forward, as if stunned that she was a step closer to freedom.

At that moment, Crowley slapped some strange handcuffs on her wrists and when she glanced down at them, they had symbols etched into them and the chains glowed darkly for a brief second, making Viviane think it might have just been a trick of her mind.

When she glanced up at Crowley, he raised his eyebrows and then knitted them together as he spoke.

"Formalities, I'm afraid." He said as he placed his hands in his pockets. She remained silent for some time, but arched an eyebrow and spoke her confusion.

"What exactly does this do?" she asked, glancing at Clara and then back at him.

"Can't wander around or leave until we take those off." Crowley replied and had a smug grin on his lips. When Viviane glanced at Clara, her expression was blank. "Now, all we need is your signature." Crowley added and Viviane looked at him, and then at the handcuffs as if to say that it was going to be a little difficult.

He snapped his fingers and a pen appeared in his hand and he handed it to her. She took the pen and looked at all those papers. He flipped through some of them, pointed where she had to sign and she did so, part of her uncertain. She didn't know why, but her heart wasn't really in it.

It was safe to say that she was trying to avoid thinking of reuniting with her daughter. That's what she really wanted, but didn't dare ask. She made a deal once and, thankfully, it was invalid. If she made another deal, the King and Queen of Hell were sure to keep it this time. So, Viviane just signed and accepted the transfer to Heaven.

When it was all done, Crowley took back the pen, slipped it into his jacket pocket and rolled up the papers. Viviane glanced at Clara and her expression was yet again blank. Either that, or really difficult to read. She glanced down at her stomach and smiled softly.

"How's the little one?" she asked and Clara finally showed emotion with a smile.

"Peachy." She replied and Viviane grinned at her tone of sarcasm. She glanced at Crowley who scowled as if he didn't like her inquiring about his child. "Well, shall we go?" Clara asked and Viviane watched as the couple exchanged glances.

"Where are we going?" she asked them and when they looked at her, there was a playful darkness in their eyes.

"Upstairs." They both said simultaneously and then Viviane felt a spark of hope that she'd see Anne one more time.

Crowley turned and began walking away, but before Clara joined him, there was something in her eyes that Viviane couldn't recognize fast enough before the Queen of Hell broke eye contact.
