Chapter 22: Lonely

Hei's eyes slowly opened and the bright sunshine pained his dark blue orbs. His head still spun slightly, but it was much better compared to what he had been through yesterday. He heaved himself up into a sitting position, one hand resting on his forehead. The fever had gone down quite a bit, and yet he still felt like all the energy had been drained out of him. He looked around, and found that a small bottle lay beside his pillow.

Etched on the label were the words "Medicated Syrup for Fevers". Hei's lips curled and he glanced around the room, looking for the person who had left this.

But he was alone. The room was empty apart from him. Now he felt empty inside, Ying wasn't anywhere to be seen. Where had she gone? When will she be back?

Hei crashed his head back down on the pillows and stared blankly at the ceiling. Then he looked back at the bottle. Perhaps, he thought as he clambered back up. Perhaps while I wait, I should take a drink.

xx In the cafe to the left on the 1st floor 9:30 pm...xx

I took a sip of my milk tea as I waited, looking at the entrance to the cafe. It was almost past the time we had arranged to meet and still Huang had not appeared, nor shown any sign of himself. I sighed, I would have much rather preferred to spend the time watching Hei sleep and waiting for him to wake up. I hope he would feel better after the sleep and medicine, but just in case a left some a bottle of syrup by his bed.

I wonder has he woken up yet.

I took another short drink, taking in the boiling liquid. When I lowered my glass, I found someone standing in front my table.

"Excuse me, are you Miss Li Yuxing?" The waiter said with a smile on his face. I nodded in reply and he continued "A certain sir has requested to see you in the meeting room just across the hall." I thanked the waiter as he bowed away and stood up. I wondered what was Huang playing at, or rather was this actually some kind of trap?

Anyways, I found myself standing in front of the desired room and knocked with the brass knocker. There was no reply and I frowned a little, trying again with increased strength. Taking a deep breath, I placed my hand on the handle of the door, and walked inside. It was completely deserted. I was alone in the room with no windows and it was as dark as ever.

Somehow, and I don't know how, I managed to control my urge of backing away from what obviously seemed like a trap. Instead, I crept inside and stood there, waiting for my eyes to get accustomed to the gloominess. Eventually, I was able to make out a sofa that lay on the opposite side of the room. I made my way carefully to it and sat down, perhaps expecting something.

Approximately fifteen minutes later, the door opened and another figure walked in. I let Kuro Sakura materialize in my hand and directed it at the door. I suppose it was quite stupid, considering that would have caused quite a lot of misunderstanding. Nevertheless, I directed it towards the person.

"Who are you?" I asked as the figure slowly raised his or her hands into the air.

"No need to be so aggressive, Ying." came Huang's voice, and suddenly the room was flooded with light. I shielded my eyes, unable to face the brightness. Huang was standing by the door smoking a cigarette, the next scene made me gasp.

Kuro Sakura, shining under the light was curved around a certain man wearing a white suit. He had blond wavy hair, and of course the pale blue eyes. As I realized who he was, he recognized me as well. We just stood there, gaping at each other with an expression of utmost surprise.

"Aren't you..." I stuttered.

"And aren't you..." He continued.

We both said each others name at the same time, still quite unable to believe our eyes.

"So you've met before, have you?" Huang asked as he moved towards the couch. I recovered and let go of the scythe, letting it dissolve into black dust. We all sat down, with me eyeing the unexpected visitor.

"He's the top agent of the MI6, November 11." Huang explained with a thrust of his hand. Indicating to me, he said "She's KS917, codename Ying." I turned to Huang and asked "What is he doing here?"

"You are to work with him for this mission, so bear with it." Huang snapped back.

"It's concerning your mission yesterday. The four people who were chasing you, you and him are to take them out." He explained.

"Then why not me and Hei?" I asked decisively.

"Reasons." He said simply.

"Why are we cooperating with someone from a different agency?" I continued.

"Ask the syndicate." Huang had a very annoyed expression now, so I figured I should probably stop asking questions.

"Either ways, he's only doing the tracking part, you are taking them out yourself."

I couldn't resist a small smile now, I couldn't trust November 11 to look after my back. We parted after talking about the mission details, with me and November 11 arranging to meet at six pm later to start the mission. I watched as Huang and him walked out the open front doors of the entrance hall. I wonder what should I do now? There was still quite a lot of time until the mission, and I doubted Hei was awake yet.

So I found myself standing outside on the freezing street, drawing my scarf closer around my neck. Walking towards the left, I planned to just walk about and enjoy the view at Hokkaido. The view was pretty good actually, some snow dotted the many rooftops of the shops. Passing a bookshop, I decided to walk in and just take a glance at what writer were all writing nowadays. The first book that took my attention was "Black Star Shower: The Tournament, by Sendo Erika" Turning to the back to read the summary, I was deeply drawn into the plot. It was now I realized that I was in there, and so was Hei! I rushed towards the counter and bought the book. Holding the brown package in my hands, I walked out the shop with a very satisfied expression etched into my face. Traipsing on, I passed a number of other shops, sometimes pausing and taking a backwards glance. I entered a number of other shops and bought a few other things.

By the time I was heading back towards the hotel, I had ladened myself with a few bags of food, the package for the book, and another little ornate looking bag. Inside was a little black dual scythe, much like my own Kuro Sakura. The other was a split blade like Hei's, I laughed to myself as I imagined his expression when he receives his get well present.

Taking a glance at the clock, it was already five. I made my way to Room 201 and opened the door gently, not wanting to wake Hei just in case he was asleep. Entering the door, I realized it was just as dark as I left it, obviously Hei hadn't gotten up otherwise he would have opened the curtains. As I approached the bed, the occupant shifted slightly, turning towards me. I froze, wondering if I had woken him up. After a while of silence, I crept on, dropping the food bags on the couch. I kneeled by his head, staring into his pale face. I looked around and found the bottle of syrup I had left him in the morning, and found that it was empty. A smile graced my lips as I felt relieved that at least he had woken up. My hand inched to his forehead, and was happy to find that the temperature was quite normal. Just in case he woke up while I was on mission, I placed the little bag with the two accessories on his bedside table.

Then I gathered myself back up and slid on my mission outfit, drawing the hood of my cloak up over my head. Making everything was all in place, I exited the door and took a backwards glance.

"See ya later, Hei."

I crept along the back alleyway towards the meeting point. It was deserted when I reached it, and I glanced at my watch, I was right on time. I leaned against the brick wall, staring at the pale sky as it started to snow. The sky was already slightly black and the little blots of white drifting down drew me into what seemed like a magical world. My hand went up to the earpiece in my ear as it started to fizz, something was coming through.

"Can you hear me? Ying?" came November 11's voice.

"Hai." I replied shortly, still angry at the fact that he hadn't even bothered coming. And not informing me as well.

"I will be talking to you through here." He continued.

I grunted in reply.

"Now, now don't be so aggressive. I am going to direct you to your target."

"Okay."

And so, I had to cooperate with someone I didn't really trust.
