Chapter 23: Revenge

Kirihara Misaki was sitting in her car, frowning so that many creases lined her beautiful face. Having a life chasing contractors wasn't easy, but she was always prepared to do so. Even so, she had been extremely busy for the past few weeks going from here to there, getting one there and here. What concerned her now, was that BK201 and KS917 hadn't been active as frequently as they had times before. And when they had been active, the position was located in Hokkaido, far from Tokyo which seemed to be like their hideout.

And so here she was, fate had brought her to all the way to Hokkaido. Another team had requested for her help and she was supposed to be taking a break right now. Looking at the watch, it was already 7:30 and she still hadn't had dinner yet. After bidding goodbye to her team mates, Misaki drove towards McDoness, thinking about what she was going to get later. It was now that she received a call from Kanami.

"Moshi moshi, Kanami?" She said into her phone.

"Misaki? Are you in Hokkaido?" Kanami replied, a note of panic in her voice.

"Hai." Misaki said somewhat uncertainly.

"KS917's active, and her star is turning black again! In the mountains, somewhat close to the borders. Where are you now?" She burst out, almost out of breath.

"Near central city, but I can make it in 10 minutes." Misaki replied quickly as she quickly swerved around, heading in the desired direction.

She is active again, and her star is black. When was the last time? Quite a few months ago now. What was happening? Misaki had done a little bit of research on why contractor stars would turn black, but so far it had all been loose ends. Most of them were highly classified files to which she couldn't gain access to, and even for the ones she could, she would be cut short since they were all misleading.

As she drove on, she hoped that this time she would be able to gain some kind of answer, at least get closer to these people who seem to get more unpredictable by the minute.

xx To Ying's Point of View, a few moments before the call...xxxx

"Along the next line of houses."

"Hai."

"Turn left."

"Hai."

"Stop. Hide."

I slid behind a strangely looking shack, wondering what exactly was going to see me if I didn't.

"Almost there, keep going." came November 11's voice through the earpiece.

I sped on, trying to get this mission as quickly done as possible so I could go back and spend the rest of the time with Hei. Tracking these mysterious people wasn't easy, apparently the syndicate and the MI6 determined them to be enemies and decided to work together to get rid of them. But then again, why send their top agent to track when they could have had dolls to do the job? November might have done the assault with me. And why not use Hei? It wasn't as if he was weaker than the MI6. Why am I on my own?

"Stop." Came a sharp voice and I came to a sudden halt, being drawn back from my thoughts. I was standing in front of another house, staring at its many empty looking windows.

"Climb the roof."

I obeyed and stood in the darkness, waiting for my next order.

"Wait there. They should be out in a minute, and then you're on your own." November 11 finished.

"Okay, thank you." I said, trying to sound polite.

"My pleasure." He muttered before cutting the line.

I sat there on the roof with Kuro Sakura swung over my shoulder for quite a while, waiting for the target to appear or something. I didn't see why I couldn't just barge into the house and demand their whereabouts. In fact, I thought as I stood up, why don't I just do that? I had already crossed to the edge of the roof, and was forced to duck down almost immediately.

Two cloaked figures had walked out of the house, whispering in hushed voices.

"Do you have it?" The first asked, he looked very nervous and was fiddling with the hem of his hood.

"Yes, where are the masters?" The second replied, he looked much calmer compared to the first.

"Beware, the masters think someone will come and interfere." The first said, now almost jumping on the balls of his feet.

"Don't worry, it'll be fine. Where are they?" The second repeated.

"The usual place, you'll find them." The first answered.

Before any of them could make a move however, I shot down from the roof and caught the second man around the neck with my scythe, bringing down towards the floor with me. The first man let out a high pitched squeal, but was quickly silenced as I pinned his head against the wall.

"Where are your masters?" I asked in a menacing manner.

"I...I don't...kno...know." He replied, stuttering on every word. I jabbed the tip of the blade to his neck and he whimpered very loudly, followed by "OKAY OKAY! Don't kill me."

"Talk" I replied shortly.

"In the... the mountains,...by...by the altars..." He said timidly.

"Thank you." I gave him a bright smile and let him go. He gave me a very frightened look before trying to scurry off.

"But, sorry." I whispered as I swung Kuro Sakura to pull him back, and eventually only his head managed to come back to me.

As I stood there, I wondered whether I was becoming too cruel with my interrogations. Have I always been like this?

I don't have time for this, I thought angrily. Crouching, I bent to the second man and rummaged in his pockets, finally finding what seemed like an ornate bell. I wonder what's this for? I pocketed it, and smiled at the fact that I happened to have another to pass of as a decoy. I stared around the environment. There was only one mountain near me, and I hoped that that was my target. An altar in the mountains? Sounds like nonsense.

I darted onwards, running towards the point and hoping that I was on time. If all went well, I will be able to sneak off as the guy who was meant to deliver the thing and then managed to kill the targets. Could I kill them? They seemed to be pretty skilled, considering that they were able to stand back up despite being thrown metres back by the violin. Or that may have been just Hei and I unable to control its strength. I thrust the thought aside, I've got a mission to do.

There, I saw it. Silhouetted in the bright moonlight, were very strange shaped stones which were circling what seemed like a very large and round death bed. Standing around it were the four people I sought, and I was surprised I recognized one by name. Sora, the man with the blue hair was standing happily amongst them, looking quite alive. Something was wrong, he was supposed to be electrocuted by Hei days ago.

No, I don't have time to think about it. I adjusted my hood so that my hair and face were hidden. Drawing my cloak closer to my body, I checked if everything was in place. All set, taking a deep breath, I took a deep breath and emerged from the trees.

"Master." I breathed as I approached, trying to keep my head and voice as low as possible. "I have brought what you sought." I paused in front of them and drew out the fake bell thing.

"Thank you." The one in green approached me and held out his hand with a great smile on his face. I placed the bell in his hands and backed away, wanting to make the least contact. My plan was to take them out by surprise and I hoped they haven't realized that I was an impostor, yet.

"Okay, now that we have it, should we begin?" He said, turning to the others.

"You are dismissed." The one in black indicated to me.

I turned to go, thinking at least see what they are up to before killing them.

"Wait." Sora jumped from his perch and walked towards me, a look of suspicion on his face.

"Yes Master?" I asked, trying to keep my head as low as possible when he stood in front of me.

"Lift your head up." He demanded.

"I beg your pardon, Master." I said.

"I said lift it up." He repeated.

I made no reply, my mind worked quickly in order to figure out what to do next. Should I just start the fight? Should I play along and get out first? I suppose I took plan A.

Seeing that I made no reaction, Sora moved closer to me, his hand reaching for my hood.

"I'll have you take that back, sire." I said menacingly, and drew out Kuro Sakura, pulling it back towards me hard and jumping back as the blade had curved around Sora's body.

He ducked with immense speed, just slipping the edge of the fate of losing his life. I drew my hood closer over my head, reading Kuro Sakura in front of me.

"Who are you?" The one in yellow asked cautiously, taking stance just in case there was going to be a fight. And of course there was.

"Who am I?" I said playfully. I sped towards the one in green who was now closest to me, swinging Kuro Sakura towards him. He ducked low to the floor and I flipped over him, curving the tip of the blade around his neck and standing on him. In this position, I turned to his companions, my cloak billowing behind me.

"Who are you people?" I inquired, keeping the weapon dangerously close to the neck of my hostage. They didn't respond, instead they all seem to be preparing to pounce. Does that mean they didn't care about the green person? I could end his life in a second. I was losing time, I didn't have anymore to waste. Tightening my grip on Kuro Sakura, I brought it upwards sharply.

I expected it to come clean off, but instead he had gripped the blade and thrown me away from him. I had only managed to flip again and land safely a few feet away, leaving a deep trail in the snow. They all rounded in on me, forming some kind of star in between them. They all began their attack, with me only managing to leap back in mid air and land a few feet away.

The one in yellow ran towards me with a large halberd. He swung it hard towards me with me blocking with Kuro Sakura, keeping it at bay. We jumped back from each other and sparred again, the metals making clings and clangs every time we sprang towards each other.

At last, we stopped, standing a few steps away from each other, panting hard. He growled and ran towards me again. Blocking again with the blade, I lifted one hand free and my eyes glowed red. Before he could react, he was already deep in abyss.

"Who's next?" I said, getting already pretty tired. I whisp of doubt darted across my mind, could I really take out all of them?

The one in green drew out dual pistols and I cursed silently to myself. My scythe was for close combat, normally Hei would take care of the rangers with his wire, but today I was on my own. Then I had to resolve to one skill. Balancing Kuro Sakura in my hands, I closed my eyes in concentration.

BANG

The bullet was traveling through the air almost as if in slow motion. They were going to hit me in 3, 2, 1...

PANG

I flicked the blade of Kuro Sakura towards where it was coming, successfully deflecting the oncoming bullet. I grinned slightly as I saw his surprised face. I pelted myself towards him, using my scythe at first, but then moving on to my ability since the number was becoming larger. I darted from let to right, trying to get closer to his body.

A bullet brushed past my leg, closely followed by another one which whizzed past my cheek. I tripped, falling. The magazine must almost be empty. At the thought, I fought back the pain and crawled to my feet. Running onwards, I reached him as he fired towards my exposed figure

Luckily I guessed right. He was out of ammo and I sliced his body in half. I crouched on the slightly bloody ground, panting. Only two more to go.

"Not bad." Came a voice, followed by applause.

I spun around and my heart fell to hell. Standing beside the altar, were the four people. They seemed completely unharmed.

"I see you had fun with the decoys." Sora drawled on.

I was getting tired now, I thought as I clambered back to my feet. I swung Kuro Sakura behind my back, closing my eyes. Under the bright moonlight, my figure glowed a dark shade of red, and another blade sprouted from the other end of the scythe.

"The real fight starts now." I mouthed as I swung the dual scythe to my front so that both my front and back were protected.

I didn't feel the same as my brave words. I knew there could only be one victor, and it may not be me.
