My Demons

As soon as Nikolai was done doing whatever it was he was doing, he came to the call of his Queen and was all too glad to accompany her to a hospital. Crowley helped her in locating the best of the best. Of course, that was in Switzerland.

Just as Clara and Nikolai were about to leave, Nerilla arrived and looked worried. She wanted desperately to speak to her Queen, but before Clara could ask her a question, Crowley stepped in front of her, hands tenderly on her forearms and that darkness in his eyes. He was going to do just like he did before, detour her work to his desk. Only, this was to tell her that he had this. He'd talk to Nerilla while she goes visiting some hospitals.

Did he know Nerilla was on her way? Is that why he wasn't negotiating over Clara's fieldtrip?

"Go to your hospital and I'll deal with this." He said. She just stared at him with that sharpness, but he flashed her a charming half smile and she sighed.

"Fine." She said and left with Nikolai. When they stood in front of a large building, the sight of the city sort of surprised her. For some reason, the quickness of leaving Hell and appearing wherever you want stunned her momentarily.

As she glanced around, she could see large mountains hiding behind the buildings and the sky was crystal blue. It was beautiful. Would she trade it for Hell? No, but spend a few days in near those mountains would be nice.

Ginger appeared next to them and shook her head, then sniffed the air, taking in the scent of the humans. Clara scratched her head and lifted her eyes up to all the humans walking around, totally clueless to Hell's presence. When she glanced at Nikolai, he was grinning at her and even winked at her.

"You're such a womanizer." She said and his grin only grew. "C'mon, let's see which human can do the job." She said and he followed her in, holding the doors opened for her and glaring at anyone that came to close to her. Ginger trotted shortly behind and also seemed to be glaring at everyone, except she was barring her fangs, as if hoping for a reason to sink them into flesh and tissue.

They took the elevator and found their way to the expecting mothers' ward and she took a seat as Nikolai asked to consult the best doctor. The secretary hesitated, saying that one must first call and all their doctors were the best if you have to ask. Naturally, Nikolai charmed her and within a couple of minutes, got what he wanted: an appointment for Clara to see the most successful doctor with the highest rating.

He sat down beside her and glanced around the room. His fingers tapping the arms of his chair and when he glanced over at Clara, she met his gaze and sharpened her eyes.

"What?" he asked her, sounding innocent.

"Don't start." She said, knowing he was going to get on her nerves. Sitting down and waiting was not for Nikolai and it was beginning with his fingers tapping the arms of his chair. What next? "Behave yourself." she said and at that moment he nodded and nearly began tapping his fingers again. He got up and began pulling out some pamphlets, reading them. At least he wasn't annoying her.

Then, a woman sat down beside her and flashed her a smile. She was a pretty young bleached blond and clearly going to be more annoying that Nikolai. Oh joy.

"Hi." She said in a high and practically squeaky voice. Clara looked down at her ready-to-burst stomach and wondered what she was doing being pregnant. Was she finished playing house with the manicured nails and golden credit card paid off by her sugar daddy, walking around with her little dog in a bag? Did she believe she was ready to have a cute doll of a kid? Oh, she's in for a reality check.

"Hi." Clara said, sarcastically sweet.

"I've been throwing up a lot lately and eating fatty foods like cupcakes and ice cream. I can't tell you enough how my pregnancy has been Hell." She said and giggled. Clara raised an eyebrow and wanted to show the Barbie doll that Hell is really like. However, Clara decided to settle for a general comment.

"You have no idea." She said with a charming smile and the girl stuck out her lip in a sympathetic pouty expression, then she giggled.

"That bad?" she asked and Clara maintained her smile, although she wanted to smack the girl.

"I have a Hell of a pregnancy." Clara replied and then the girl made this sympathetic awing, which sickened her. She glanced down at Clara's stomach and Ginger stared at the bleached blond with a hunger in her eyes. Clara almost felt like telling her to attack.

"Looks like you're about six months along, that's nothing. I'm ready to pop!" She said with a light giggle and Clara let out a mocking giggle.

"It only feels like six weeks." She said and the girl laughed, more like squealed like a pig.

She wasn't certain of the time exactly, but it probably was weeks. Her pregnancy was far from normal and going by quickly. Who's to say that she's not ready to pop?

Just as the girl was about to say something else, luckily at that moment, a nurse called out for a Misty Jenkins and the girl giggled and pushed herself out of the chair, giggling all the way into the doctor's office. Oh, how Clara wanted to smash the girl's face in. She was so sweet; it was sickening. However, she was gone and Clara was left alone with her Hellhound at her feet. Then Nikolai came back and sat beside her with a handful of pamphlets. She glanced at them and raised an eyebrow.

"Prenatal vitamins?" she asked and when he shuffled the pamphlets, each was worse than the last. "Adequate sleep? Avoid scary information?" she asked and Nikolai glanced at her with a mocked frown.

"I know! No help there, considering the place we live in!" he added and Clara shot him a quick glare and continued to look at the pamphlets.

"Midwives? The benefits of breastfeeding?" she asked and felt even more disgusted. Nikolai glanced at her once again and studied her expression, grinning at her disgust. "You've got to be kidding me." she added and then Nikolai silently gasped. "Like I'm gonna breastfeed." She added and crossed her arms over her chest.

"You mean Crowley won't share with his own kid?" he asked and Clara glared coldly at him. "Just kidding, although you might want to breastfeed for the first forty-eight hours. Apparently, it's very beneficial to the kid." He added and Clara let out a low growl escape her throat and he flashed her a smile. "But yeah, the 'avoid scary information' one doesn't help you at all. You married it." He said and tossed that pamphlet over his shoulder where it flipped over the table next to him and slid down in between a couple of chairs. Surprisingly, no one seemed to have cared. They were too busy looking at motherly magazines.

The corner of her lips twitched as she fought a grin and glanced away. Briefly after that, she caught sight out of the corner of her eye of an elderly woman sit next to Nikolai. She said that her granddaughter was getting an ultrasound and then she mentioned all the pamphlets that he gathered for Clara. Oh, how she thought that was sweet!

"Oh, you must be the father. So nice to see fathers just as implied in the miracle of birth as is the mother." She said with a light laugh full of charm and sickening happiness, and Clara could no longer hold back her grin when Nikolai answered the woman.

"Father? No, I'm the babysitter." He said and the woman was speechless.

Clara couldn't help her grin from broadening on her face.
