Chapter 28: Together...Not?
Hei had sprinted along a narrow and dark corridor, hoping that he was going in the right direction. Suddenly, he came to a halt. Crouching down, he examined what seemed like dark liquid, and realized that it was blood. It was still like liquid, so that mean that the owner must have just passed through here. He had no proof whatsoever that this belonged to Ying, but somehow he just knew.
He straightened back up and raced along the way, hoping that he was getting close to his target. He adjusted the the position of the violin case on his back and sprinted on. He came to another abrupt halt, and this time he pressed himself hard against the wall. He was standing before a great chamber with strange blue light glistening out.
Ying was pinned against the wall, looking completely dead if Hei hadn't seen that her chest still heaved ever so slightly. Her enemy was already drawing the katana to her throat. Why wasn't Ying retaliating? Did she really want to...
"YING!" Hei yelled and sprinted forwards.
The man turned and saw him, and quickly drew Ying sharply towards him, binding her and still keeping the blade at her neck.
Hei stopped dead in his tracks, not sure how to react.
"You finally came, BK201. Your girlfriend and I have been waiting." He said casually, though his eyes gave off a very daunting feeling indeed.
"Hei..." Ying whispered through her barely opened lips. Her eyes opened slightly, squinting at the blurry figure.
"I've brought the violin, let her go." Hei demanded.
"Open the case up." He said in return.
Hei placed his hand on top of the lid and pulled it up, revealing the same violin that had perhaps caused all this trouble in the first place. It was giving off a blackish purple glow and it was almost as if it was resonating with the star etched into the ground.
"Put it on the floor."
Hei complied and moved forwards a few step before placing the case gently on the floor. The enemy moved slowly towards it, eyeing Hei suspiciously and still draggin Ying with him. Ying's face was losing colour fast, and Hei knew he had to get her back quickly if he really wanted her to stay alive. The man seemed to change his mind, and stopped his movement. Moving the blade away, he pushed Ying to the violin.
"You get it." He said.
Ying staggered and almost tripped over, her knees almost buckling beneath her. She stooped and picked the violin up, turning to face her captor.
"Bring it here." He commanded.
She gave him a penetrating stare and slowly moved forwards, pausing in front of him. He held his hand out to take it, but Ying only smiled. And then she raised it up high, and brought the violin smashing down. Splinters of wood rose into the air and the tight strings ripped and lay crooked on the floow. The parts gave a last flicker of light, and then died out.
"YOU!" He screeched, drawing his left hand up and directing it towards his audience. Ying fell limp once again and the enemy returned her to his dangerous embrace.
Hei moved to spring forwards, but he stopped as the enemy drew the knife close.
"She's going to pay for this." He sneered, with a smirk on his face.
He placed the blade on Ying's skin, and moved it sideways harshly. If this didn't cut the skin, then nothing could.
Huang was pacing up and down, still wondering what to do next.
"Calm down Huang, they are going to be fine." Mao purred.
Yin nodded as well and continued staring blankly at the floor. Neither of them really believed their words or actions. Just like neither of them knew what was going to happen to their two contractors.
"How should I tell the syndicate?" Huang asked.
They were silent, each lost in their own thoughts and perhaps ways of how to get them out of this one.
"How about we wait until they come back first?" Yin whispered.
All three of them looked out the transparent windows at the darkened sky. They were drawn into a memory when all of them had been on a roof of a house. Huang was smoking a cigarette, and Mao was sitting in Yin's lap when she too sat on the roof. Hei was adjusting a telescope at the sky and Ying was just gazing into nothingness.
Tinkle...
Silence.
"YES! I'M FINALLY FREE!"
Ying was rigid as the pink four-leafed clover necklace fell with a small sound to the stone floor. She could feel power swarming within her, feeling that the bond was finally broken.
What's happening? Shinigami?
"That stupid necklace of yours kept limiting me. But now, now is the time when I get revenge!"
The necklace, a present from Hei. Did that mean Hei was anchoring me to this world? That I am not suppose to disappear after all? Am I doubting the very deal I made myself with the shinigami?
My body was almost ripping apart, I couldn't withstand all the energy and pressure coursing through my veins. My heart and brain fought hard to keep control maintained but with not much success. I know something terrible was going to happen, and perhaps this...
This is the last...
"Hei, gomen. I am very sorry." I mouthed the words, perhaps the last sane thing I am ever to say.
To be continued...
Me: Second shortest chapter ever...
Ying: What is wrong with you! Can't you just write longer?
Hei: Yeah, I'm getting tired just standing there even though I am suppose to be in the scene
Mao: *MEOW*
Huang: Damn contractors nowadays
Yin: *Gently stroking Mao*
Me: Fine fine... This brings us to the end of chapter 28. This story is probably going to end next chapter, or the chapter after that... Too bad, I enjoyed writing it a lot though.. Here we are then... Thanks again!
