Epilogue

Spring had approached the busy streets of Tokyo city. The sky was pure blue and whisps of lazy, white clouds drifted across. Birds twittered happily above, racing each other in an attempt to get the best perch for a view of the city. The sun gazed radiently down on the many entwined pathways, smiling at the people who bustled about their daily business.

And so our attention was drawn to the student who was waving goodbye to a nice old landlady who was holding a broom in her hands. He slid his hands into the pockets of his blue jeans and a smiled remained on his handsome features as he trailed away from Misuzu. Looking at his feet, he moved them one at a time forwards, heading towards the children's playground he had becomed so accustomed to visiting. When he arrived at the entrance, his partners were already waiting for him. The silver haired girl, the old man smoking a cigarette, and a black cat with a red collar. All was well, no one was missing.

"Yo, Hei." The cat approached him and said as the man called Hei sat down at the bench in the corner of the playground.

"The mission yesterday went well, the syndicate congradulates you on your success blah blah blah and the usual rubbish. No mission today. Dismissed." Huang took another smoke and said. Without a backwards glance, he headed out of the playground. Hei stood up, and also made to leave as well.

"Are you not going?" Hei asked Yin, who was still sitting on the swing.

She shook her head and replied "Later." Hei nodded and left in Huang's wake, leaving Yin on the swing with Mao perched in her lap.

Hei made his ways to a nearby park and walked through the line of sakura trees. Since spring had come, the flowers had burst into bloom, all trying to grab the attention of the onlookers by their pale pink petals. The wind accompanied them and blew the petals further and further into the distance.

He stood there with his eyes closed, feeling the morning breeze brush his cheeks. He saw her. The girl sitting on top of one the sakura tree branches, smiling down at him. She fell forwards, holding her hands out in an attempt to embrace and smiling brightly. Hei too raised his hands to catch her.

Hei opened his eyes as a sakura petal landed on his nose. Reaching for it with his left hand, he held it in his palm under the sun. With a gentle blow, it fluttered like a free bird into the distance, the sunlight making it shine like glitter.

"What a beautiful light..."

"Right?"

"Ying?"

Because Sendo Erika doesn't exist anymore.

Isn't it interesting, that all that has happened throughout these months, was finished just after the previous week. Everything about her, memories and things were left behind. No one had ever known the girl that happened to disappear.

She will always exist in the never ending, Black Star Shower...

And this brings us to the end of the epilogue. And here I bring you

Darker Than Black: Black Star Shower by Sendo Erika

Thank you!
