Like a Prayer

The drive was long and silent. The emotions were mixed: they were happy to get away, but it also felt strange to leave allies and play in the neutral zone. As a hunter, Anne wasn't sure such a zone existed and she wasn't sure if it would last.

What if the Winchesters and Castiel find out Clara's pregnant and plan an attack on her? Would she still be in the neutral zone or jump in and fight on Clara's side? Why? Just because the Queen of Hell is a blood relative? Because she brought her mother back and ordered protection for all three of them?

Actually, that sounded like really good reasons.

Gadreel glanced over at her and could feel the tension. He extended an arm behind her head and placed his hand on her shoulder, encouraging her to rest against him. She sighed and curled up against him.

Her mother was now driving the car and looked up in the review mirror at them, slightly worried. She knew this wasn't easy for Anne, even if she tried to hide it.

"Is she sleeping?" Viviane asked in a whisper and before Gadreel could answer, Anne groaned slightly.

"No."

Gadreel gave a soft smile and looked at the road ahead, the sun about to rise above the horizon.

"I'm sure there's somewhere we can go." Viviane said and Gadreel nodded, glancing down at Anne and stroking her head softly. "I have an old friend that doesn't live too far away." She added and Gadreel nodded again, only this time with a yawn. "Oh, take a nap!" Viviane said as she looked at him in the review mirror.

He smiled tiredly and rested his head as best as he could and closed his eyes. Both him and Anne drifted off to sleep, losing touch from reality and time, but brought back suddenly when the car came to a screeching halt. They both sat up and looked out ahead.

Viviane gripped the steering wheel tightly and saying the word "shit" under the breath.

Just a few feet away in front of them stood a man who stared at them intensely. Anne tapped her mother's shoulder, reassuring her they were all fine, but Gadreel couldn't stop staring at the man. He couldn't shake off the feeling that he knew him, as strange as that sounded.

As the man approached, Viviane immediately put the car in reverse, but somehow the car stayed in place, no matter how hard she pressed on the accelerator. At that moment, Gadreel understand why he felt he knew the man. It wasn't so much the vessel, but the angel within.

He pushed the passenger seat forward and opened the door, getting out of the back seat and closing the door before Anne could follow him. The angel stared coldly at him as he approached.

"What is it you want?" Gadreel asked him and the angel gave what seemed to be an attempt to grin.

"The acclaimed Gadreel, reduced to nothing." the angel said coldly, but Gadreel didn't care what he had to say.

"I know you haven't come simply to mock me." he replied. "What is it that you want?" he asked again, this much harsher than the last. The angel just stood in place and stared through the windshield at Anne, his stare so intense that it bothered Gadreel. "Leave her out of this." He said sternly and the angel returned his gaze to him.

"She made a deal with Crowley." he said and Gadreel stood firm without deny or confirming the angel. "She knows what power is growing stronger with each passing day in Hell." He added and still Gadreel remained silent. "She will tell us." He added and when he approached the car, Gadreel stepped into his way and glared.

"You will not touch her." he said and the angel stared without any expression to give Gadreel a hint of the angel's plans.

"Then you shall tell us." He said and grabbed Gadreel's arm. He heard Anne screaming in protest and then the flapping of the angel's wings before they left the road.
