I left a note to myself to update Chapter 6 before posting this chapter but currently I can't remember why. So if anyone goes back and rereads the last chapter and spots it let me know okay?
Thank you Mira SeverusSirius Black-Snape, random bug, and Vicky (Guest) for reviewing last chapter!
Of Dragons and Wyverns Too Chap 7
Jack wheeled along behind the mushy couple, Enny grumbling along behind him.
They led him to what could only be described as a living room, though in a very broad sense. There was a very soft and puffy leather couch and a ton of bean bags scattered everywhere. Blankets and pillows were thrown and scattered all over the floor, stuffing laying about here and there with evidence of clawmarks.
"Welcome to the Den." Ticky plopped down on the couch. "Literally, sometimes we get the urge to den and therefore we have this room."
"Basically the lazy room." Yugiko said in amusement.
"It's also very comfortable to nap in." She shrugged.
"I can't believe you forgot about this! He told you he was coming with his Soul Guarded, what, not even half an hour ago?!" Jack heard Kenzie's angrily yelling voice as someone else kept saying 'Ow!' through one of the entrances.
(There were no doors to be seen except for the first one, just cave tunnels.)
"I'm sorry Kenz, he called in the middle of something! I got distracted!" Jack watched in surprise as Kenzie came in pulling a man by his white medium length hair. "Ow ow ow, Kenz!" Actually, man didn't quite describe it. The guy looked about 16. Jack just chalked it up to wyvern weirdness.
"Mom, let Dad go before you break something." Ticky rolled her eyes.
"Break something..?" Jack muttered quietly to himself.
"Owch!" The man yelped loudly as Kenzie let go of his hair with a yank. "Kenzie, that hurts a lot more than it does for a human…" He whined childishly. Getting a look at Jack he perked up and smiled as if nothing had ever happened. "You must be Jack! I'm Nock, you probably know that though." He grinned.
"Are you kidding me? Enny was right?! How are your eyes that color!" Jack threw his hands up. "I was this close to thinking he really was screwing with me on that."
Nock couldn't help but laugh. "Not what I was expecting."
"He obsesses over my eyes all the time." NJ droned dryly.
"Cream green should not be possible! Seriously, how do you get cream green from neon green and brown?" Jack ranted.
"Trust me, I've debated that myself." Nock admitted. "I've done research but something about our species just screws with genetics."
"Aw look NJ, they're bonding!" Kenzie snickered.
"Kenzie, shut up." Nock teased and continued talking to Jack.
NJ watched with a sweatdrop as they got absorbed in a conversation over eye colors and the genetics involved.
"Come on little bro, let's go grab something to eat. Had any meat since you've been living with him?" Ticky stood up from the couch.
"No." He admitted, following her trying to not show how eager he was.
Yugiko made a face and decided staying on the couch was preferable.
"OH. MY. GOSH." Jack squealed as he stood in the doorway to Nock's lab.
"Everyone reacts like that." Said wyvern walked past him absently.
"Dude, my parents are rich and I don't have this kind of access to equipment like this." Jack drooled. "How do you get the money?"
Nock chuckled. "My brother Abon is Earth. He's able to draw metals to him since they're part of the earth. Precious metals included. Plus, all he did was get me the metals. I researched blueprints and built most of these myself." He walked among the machines with a slight tenderness in his eyes, a look that Jack knew very well. The look of an inventor when looking at the creations they cared for the most.
"You're telling me you built all of these?" Jack's jaw dropped further.
"Oh yeah, not every one but most. And really, it's not all that hard for me. Following instructions is way below my intelligence level."
"Everything is below your intelligence level." Jack yelped in surprise as Yugi's image appeared on a screen.
"That is not true!" Nock held up his pointer finger as he turned his back on said screen.
"Hi, you're probably wondering why I'm inside the computers?" Yugi grinned mischievously.
"You could say that." Jack blinked owlishly.
"Eh, kind of a long story." He shrugged. "I was involved in beta testing these virtual reality game systems that were advanced past their times. The plug got pulled, well more like cut, right in the middle and things got… bad. See, it worked by turning the brain signals into computer code… And when it got pulled I was turned into computer code."
"You mean you're..?"
"A living computer system?" Yugiko grinned widely. "Exactly. The only real problem was making it so I could reenter my body, which is where Nock comes in."
"Oh I remember that as one of my biggest projects," Nock called with a fond grin. "Worst three weeks of my life, though the outcome was more than worth it. I literally had less than ten hours of sleep in the whole of five hundred and four hours. The problem was that I couldn't find any way for his computerized mind to function in his body or change his mind back to normal brainwaves without potentially damaging it. So I had to find a way to combine the human body and a computer for the entire situation to go right."
"And I remember pretty much none of it." Yugiko shrugged and backed away from the screen. Jack could now see that Yugiko appeared to be in a small room sitting in front of his own screen, relaxing in a rolling chair.
"I created something that remade his entire nervous system into a metallic structure that was small enough and flexible enough to fit in the original paths of the nervous system without proving harmful to the body or restricting movement! It was incredibly difficult and I don't even know how I did it, even looking back over my notes and the machine in the first place!" Nock raved passionately. "I was in some sort of haze after the first week or so!"
"My entire nervous system is mechanical." Yugiko clarified, though Jack had understood the gist of it.
"So… you're a cyborg?"
Yugiko's face sank into a look very reminiscent of a constipated dog. "No. I am not a cyborg."
"But isn't that pretty much what a cyborg is?" Jack frowned.
"No!" He threw his hands up and the screen blinked off.
"He's kind of sensitive about being called a cyborg," Nock stage whispered with a smirk.
"No kidding," Jack's attention was quickly caught by the impossibility of making someone's nervous system mechanical, and the conversation quickly switched to something that would have made a rocket scientist's head spin.
"He's a keeper." Ticky teased, nibbling on the head of a fish.
"Shut up Ticky." NJ grouched with a scowl, chewing on a deer haunch.
While the Air orientated wyvern preferred to eat fish and marine life over red meat NJ hadn't eaten meat since he'd started living with Jack. He hadn't allowed Jack to see him in his primary form, meaning he didn't have time to eat anything.
"Oh come on, I might not have a Soul Guarded but I do have a mate. And the fact that he can keep up with dad on one of his rants? He's bound to be awesome." She winked.
"…He is." NJ said sullenly and sunk back further on his rear legs.
"Aww!" She cooed and NJ hissed briefly at her in annoyance. She just snickered and nudged his neck with her snout. "I'm just messin' with you little brother. Plus he does seem pretty awesome. He seen natural form yet?" Her tail whipped around.
"No. Bipedal either. Just don't want to, but I will soon. I have a plan for when he gets out of the chair." NJ couldn't help a slight tint of amusement from sneaking into his deadpan.
"Oooh, I see where you're going with that." She grinned, bearing sharp and slightly bloody teeth. "Have fun with it!"
NJ didn't respond back, but his eyes closed slightly in acknowledgement as he ripped another piece of meat out and swallowed it.
"So you say you've been sneezing a lot?" Nock looked over his son carefully as Yugiko, inside the computer still, scanned him.
"A lot."
"Strange, we're usually pretty impervious to any viruses or illnesses…" Nock hummed curiously as Yugiko brought up the results of the scan on the screen. "Well you don't have anything wrong except for some swelling in your nasal passages… Do you have enough energy to shift to bipedal and primary? I'd like to see if it's effecting your other forms."
"Yeah, but…" Enny looked at Jack, who nodded with a small smile and drove his chair out of the room.
Nock didn't do much outside of raising an eyebrow and smiling slightly.
"I don't know exactly what's wrong, but it looks like he's caught a mutated strain of the cold virus. Nothing bad, just mutated enough to effect a wyvern. Judging from what I found I don't think it can even be contracted by humans." Nock told everyone as Enny sniffled.
"What can I do about it." NJ glared dully.
"The same thing humans do with colds?" Nock shrugged. "It's just a really minor cold. The only strange thing about it is that it can effect wyvern in the first place. I do suggest coming back to get checked out again if anything new happens that's not ordinary, but otherwise you should be fine."
"Having the cold is not fine." Jack rolled his eyes. "It's just the beginning stages but once the cold gets going it's completely miserable."
"He's right." Kenzie nodded with a face. "I hate colds."
"Well Jack can help him out since he knows about colds." Nock grinned at NJ's huff.
"Your family is awesome." Jack grinned as he and NJ left the cave's entrance and got back onto his jet.
"My family is crazy."
"I… Okay, after seeing the pillow fight scene I can't say anything else." Jack admitted. "I still don't understand how you guys turned a pillow fight into a form of warfare."
"We fight. It's who we are. I'm the only one who acts otherwise. Even still I like fighting every now and then." Enny droned and scrunched up his nose.
"Seriously, form. Of. Warfare. Your dad was literally using air to turn pillows into deadly rockets." Jack laughed.
"Give it up already…" NJ hmphed.
"Not gonna happen. You know I'm going to meet the rest of your family eventually, right?" Jack looked at him with a grin as he activated the jet.
"And I still want that day to be very far into the future." NJ sighed.
"So do all the wyvern have crazy colored eyes?" NJ twitched and Jack could see him trying to resist a facepalm. He finally breathed out in exasperation.
"Yes, yes we apparently do. My aunt Arya has deep, dark blue eyes. My uncle Abon has golden eyes. My aunt Kaine has red eyes oft compared to fire. My cousins all have variations of said colors." Enny's drone held strong.
"Awesome." Jack grinned widely.
"So many people say."
Enny groaned and buried his face into Jack's pillow.
"I hate this! How do humans stand getting sick like this that often?" He whined, voice nasally and congested.
Jack was laid down in his bed next to NJ patting his shoulder awkwardly. The wyvern had never been sick before, so it made sense that he'd be especially miserable. It was still weird to see Enny act so childishly.
Then again, Jack acted even worse when he was sick so he couldn't say anything.
"We're just more used to it, I guess." He shrugged and nudged Enny's shoulder to catch his attention. "Guess what?"
"What?" Bleary cream green eyes peaked up from the pillow.
Jack didn't say anything, just picked up a remote from his bedside table and pointed it at the wall in front of them.
The look on Enny's face when the wall came open and a giant flatscreen TV came into view was priceless.
The glee when Jack called a jackbot to go bring them gaming remotes caused the genius to collapse into laughter.
"AHAHAHAHA! DIE ZOMBIES DIE!" *cough cough* "AHAHAHA! MY THROAT IS KILLING ME AND I DON'T EVEN CARE!"
There is so much I want to say about NJ's family. But this is about Enny and Jack, not his family, so I'm just going to insert his family into the story every now and then. (P.S. if Yugiko reminds you of Yugi from Yugioh there's a very good reason behind it but it's REALLY REALLY complicated. He sort of is but he sort if isn't.)
